    Congrats Jacqueline :)

Very fine post, NW. Thank you.

This is the best video of Lady Gaga’s performance I’ve been able to find, though it’s embedded in a tweet …

Yes, I will (continue to) intervene, whenever necessary ….

I gather Christie went back to governing today - had a press conference & refused to answer Trump questions. I will forever be confused that even on the world stage the President gets hit with partisan questions from the media - yet GOPers simply refuse to discuss things they do not want to talk about

Something wrong with a democracy where the media gives one party a privilege refused to the other.

THANK YOU so much for highlighting this moment. It was so incredibly moving, from VP’s standing ovation, to his speech, to Lady Gaga’s performance and to all the women who stood up, it really was one of the most emotionally powerful things I’ve seen on this level.

    XOXO, NW.

Its amazing what can be accomplished when working with PBO”s administration by doing things like setting up your own state exchange and expanding medicare as prescribed. Voting Matters!

    http://www.startribune.com/minnesota-insured-rate-spikes-after-mnsure/370516931/

“Results of the biannual survey, released Monday by the Minnesota Department of Health and the University of Minnesota, showed 213,000 more residents with coverage last year compared to 2013. The share of Minnesotans lacking insurance fell to 4.3 percent.

State officials hailed the role of the state’s online exchange, MNsure, despite its widely publicized technical problems, for connecting more Minnesotans with benefits they previously lacked or couldn’t afford. Expanded eligibility for the state’s Medicaid program helped as well.”

We had the good fortune at my former Navy organization, way back, to be associated with then-Navy Captain Winston Scott, now retired, who was later selected in ’92 to join the Space Program. I remember when we heard that news, we felt highly excited to “know an astronaut”!

Dudette, before he internet and Twitter/comment sections, there were people who sat alone in their apartments shouting at the TV, or walked down the street while muttering to themselves. We would see them and know to cross the street or avoid engaging in a conversation. Now they get to join in with everyone else and get people to respond to their nonsense.

D’accordo Dudette (I’m in agreement). I wish there was some sort of automatic filter one could apply to comment sections so I could expore the sane ones and ignore the racist/misogynist/crazy/sociopath ones.

    Hello TOD!

Someone on TPV quoted and linked to an article on DKos by Markos. Now, I don’t remember the last time I even clicked on DKos. I have avoided that site like the plague since 2010 or earlier. But damn, if Markos didn’t make some spot on points about the Dem Primary, reality and the Bernie campaign. It’s worth reading for sure.

    http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/2/29/1492734/-Democrats-South-Carolina-and-wrapping-up-our-primary-season

    Some tidbits:

“You know who did turn out given the opportunity? African Americans in South Carolina……The big takeaway? If you want a revolution, find a candidate/leader that looks like the Democratic Party, or has done the hard work of building credibility in communities of color.”

“I won’t speak for African Americans, but Latinos have had enough revolutions, none of them good. It’s literally the reason why I ended up here in this country. So Sanders’ “revolution” rhetoric was never going to win Latino support. But worse, they definitely see “revolution” when they look at Trump and his supporters, and it’s fucking terrifying.”

“A reminder: No president, no matter how revolutionary, can single-handedly kill Citizens United. But you know who can? A new liberal replacement to Justice Scalia. Donald Trump doesn’t give us that. Even if you assume the worst nonsense about Hillary Clinton, she does give us that.”

“…you don’t get to parachute into a party less than a year before the first contest and expect to win huge swath of support.”

      February 29, 2025 at 5:05 pm

Very good points, MS! I can’t recall last time I went to DKos either, but these tidbits make sense.

I was listening to NPR this afternoon and they were discussing that in California there are fewer registered Republicans and Democrats. Most of the younger newly registered adults are registering Independent, and that is across the board AA’s, White, Hispanic and Asian. They said that because of this the two parties are not making calls to this group and could be why there are fewer people voting because they are not being reached.

It probably has to do with CA’s Open Primary rules. Not sure on this, but think the top two candidates move on regardless of which party they are in. Hmmmm seems like that would not apply to a national election though. Anyone know how that works?

Exactly! There is ZERO accountability in the media. Too many uninformed opinions being passed off as “fact” or “news” with no formal retractions and/or corrections when the information being spread was clearly wrong or false.

I feel the majority of these “political talk shows” that occupy 90% of the major news networks’ airtime are worthless at best, and dangerous at worst.

      Very true.

They only hear what they want to hear.

It’s like that silly RW misinformation claim that Al Gore ‘invented the internet’.

I’ve seen posts that PBO ‘floated a RW pick for SCOTUS’ - he did not do that. HARRY REID suggested Gov. Sandoval, who was never contacted by the WH.

But no matter - it’s one more thing the emoprogs attribute to PBO, false or not, so they can justify their deep disappointment (maybe too mild a word in some cases) in him.
