This is who too many US voters want as their President. He just assumes that if they are black - they are not his supporters. Such a welcoming man who will do so much for the country. I am ill thinking about the horror of this person.

I wondered about what I was picking up from the photos of this ceremony. There was something really almost resentful in the eyes of the recipient. I could not decide if the eyes were just ‘dead’ in a sense or if they were showed an inner malice. It really hit me when I saw them. In contrast there is an openess, warmth and sense of reverence coming from the photos of President Obama. It was such a contrast. Thought perhaps its bad to read too much into a photo but maybe it was something afterall. To not mention ones commander in chief at all seems strange.

Thank you, Bob. Such a bounty of good news coming from Iran. Iranians were really ready for change that would open up their opportunities and improve their lives, but, unlike some in the US who speak glibly of revolution, they know the cost of profound social, economic and political disruptions and that’s not the route they want to follow. Americans think they have nothing to learn from other societies, but our lack of global perspective makes us very dumb.

Interesting to her of politicians/leaders working in partnership AND honestly telling voters where they want to go. [excerpt from the lobelog.com link mentioned in tweet above]

              // ……………………………

              Here are my initial takeaways.

Unlike what some headlines in the Western press have described, this election was not a “win” for the reformists since they did not contest the election as reformists per se. They entered the election in an alliance consisting of reformists, centrists (described as Rouhani government supporters), and even some conservatives. This alliance explicitly introduced itself to the Iranian public as “the second step,” following the “first step” taken toward “moderation” in the 2013 election of President Hassan Rouhani. It also explicitly asked the electorate to vote for the complete lists of “Reformist and Government Supporters” (RSG), alternatively called the Hope List, as a way to remove from elected offices those who had publicly opposed the direction Rouhani had taken the country since his election.

The voters responded, particularly in the capital city of Tehran (more on this later), which has the largest number of parliamentary seats (30). They voted out some of the loudest opponents of the nuclear agreement. This was possible since most, not all, of the loudest MPs against the agreement were from the city of Tehran. It was also made possible because Tehranis seem to have voted in larger numbers than in the past couple of elections. As such the election could be better described as a referendum on the direction of the country under President Rouhani and whether the part of the population that supports the new direction could register its weight in a meaningful way despite a highly engineered electoral process.

This is exactly the question many are asking after yesterday’s fiasco. Why are the Secret Service being used as henchmen to carry out his racist orders or to beat up the press? Isn’t their job only to protect him? We will demand answers.

He is a thin-skinned loudmouth. He cannot tolerate any dissent or differing opinion. The degree of hatred and animosity he is fomenting is horrendous. It will only get worse and I fear it may lead to someone getting seriously injured at his rallies. It’s almost like he’s looking for a race war.

He IS looking for a race war, meta. But as they say, be careful what you wish for…. And Trump of all people would be wise to keep this in mind. His little “birther” experiment with PBO back in 2011 didn’t quite turn out as he had anticipated.

And something tells me that if he pushes this “angry white populist mobster” mentality too far, it will backfire in a way that he and his friends in the media would have NEVER imagined….

We all could spend many sleepless nights worrying about a Trump presidency or we can put our heads down, work hard, and make sure it doesn’t happen. Hillary has said that she has no intention of losing. PBO says that Americans may flirt with disaster, but when the real choice comes next November, they will do the right thing. We will do ourselves no favors if we give in to despair. Yesterday, I met with a local Latino businessman who said that Latinos come into his store every day to ask how and when they can vote against Trump. Many are pushing through their citizenship process so they can vote this year. These are the people we have to galvanize and drag to the polls, if need be. I want fear of Trump to unify the Democratic party and mobilize it to action as never before. We will have our President and VP Biden, our beloved FLOTUS and VFLOTUS and our own forces working day and night to fight against the fascism and bigotry. This is our fight and we have to believe we can and will win it.

I don’t like the assumption that Trump is understanding the mood of a angry electorate and their fears. What Trump is understanding is their are some racists ass people out there who don’t like that fact that a black President was elected twice, they don’t like the fact that one day they will be the minority in this country. President Obama had to denounce his pastor because of the things that pastor said, but Donald J. Trump would not denounce the KKK, a evil, disgusting horrible group who have murder so many blacks.

Donald Trump Finds Ally in Delegate Selection System, Much to G.O.P.’s Chagrin

    By TRIP GABRIEL
    FEB. 29, 2016

… Hoping to avoid a repeat of the messy fight for the Republican nomination in 2012, the party drew up a calendar and delegate-selection rules intended to allow a front-runner to wrap things up quickly.

Now, with Republicans voting in 11 states on Tuesday, the worst fears of the party’s establishment are coming true: Donald J. Trump could all but seal his path to the nomination in a case of unintended consequences for the party leadership, which vehemently opposes him.

“Trump has significant advantages, and that’s the way the system is designed,” said Joshua T. Putnam, a political science lecturer at the University of Georgia with an expertise in delegate selection. “It’s right in line with what the folks designing these rules wanted. It’s just not the candidate they preferred.”

GOP PRIMARY BASED ON ROMNEY FAVORS TRUMP TONE

      The Rachel Maddow Show

      ————————————————-

Rachel Maddow explains how changes made by the Republican Party to their primary calendar in response to the messy 2012 primary has given early weight to white, southern, conservative Republicans, allowing Donald Trump to potentially lock up the race early, sticking the party with a candidate the establishment detests. What does it say about the GOP that Trump is the white supremacists’ candidate?

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/what-does-it-say-about-the-gop-that-trump-is-the-white-supremacists-candidate/2016/02/28/0d5d0b12-dcbe-11e5-891a-4ed04f4213e8_story.html

Neo-Nazis, Klan members and white nationalists are a durable feature of the far-right fringe in U.S. politics. The constant reinvention and reintroduction of a character such as Duke over the years shows that our nation’s racist yahooism probably will never go away completely. It’s like a latent infection that becomes mildly symptomatic again every time we’re under too much stress.
    .
    .
Again, a candidate cannot be held accountable for everything said and believed by his or her supporters. But once it’s clear that the candidate has both the attention and affection of the ugliest, most vile creatures in our political swamp, what he chooses to do about that is a leadership test not only for the candidate but also for the party of which he is becoming the standard-bearer. Now that the KKK and the white nationalists feel that the Republican Party has finally given them a candidate they can believe in, who will disabuse them of that notion? And how?

Yet we hear about how the republican party establishment is so opposed to Trump.. and yet they wholeheartedly embraced Palin. I’m just not buying their loathing of Trump- he speaks their language perfectly, imo. Is it because they think they can’t control him? So I’m going to be going to the MN caucus tonight… I’ve never gone before but feel like this year would be a great time to go for the first time. Any caucus veterans out there with advice? I really don’t want Bernie to win MN so i’ll be supporting Hillary (which I wouldn’t have believed me saying 2 years ago!).

On TV here the two most frequent avatars are Keith Ellison congressman from MPLS for stoking up the Bern, while Sen-Franken has been behind Hillary. I’m thinking it will be close in this state at least.

    • 110 57andfemale

I don’t live in a caucus state, but I would say showing up is the most important thing.

I think BS can pull out a win in MN, but I hope not. I hope calling AA voters in SC “stupid” will give some people pause.

I really don’t want the meme to be that Hillary can only win in states that won’t vote for her in the GE anyway. So I’m hoping for a win in either MN, MA, or both. And TX matters as well.

Let’s be clear: there is only one candidate from either party that is remotely competent to be POTUS and that’s Hillary. I’m with you - I never thought I would say such a thing, even a year ago.

    Assessing the Threats We Face

    By Nancy LeTourneau
    ……………

But the terror indicated that those who felt it were very aware of the fact that we had not reached a post-racial America. Almost immediately during the 2008 election Obama was accused by those on the right of “paling around with terrorists,” saw vicious attacks on his pastor and had his citizenship in this country questioned. Once he was elected, we witnessed unprecedented obstruction and disrespect of - not just his policies - but his very personhood. This country’s first African American president consistently faced an opposition that challenged his legitimacy in office.

Meanwhile, the courts and Republican legislators all over the country have been attempting to roll back the voting rights that so many African Americans fought and died for, and they are watching their sons and daughters be killed at the hands of police officers and vigilantes.

We are now witnessing a Republican presidential primary where the candidates are racing to outdo each other in their contempt for people of color. The field is being led by someone who has been embraced by white supremacists and just yesterday refused to disavow the support he is receiving from KKK groups - claiming he needs to do research to understand who they are.

    Heartbreaking:

I followed the link to read the story and the school’s/Board’s stance seems really stupid to me. I don’t understand why emphasis is placed on such trivial issues. There is no way I’d keep my son in that school after this - what do you want to bet that his grades are going to fall (as in they’ll be sure to ‘gerrymander’ them going forward). Not to mention that that child’s self-confidence has taken a hit, they’ll start to diminish him bit by bit. Sigh!

      BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

      // …………………….
Keisha Rembert said her son Rashaad Hunter is an honor roll student who doesn’t get in trouble. He attends Greenwood Elementary School in Bessemer.

“He was walking with his head down, when I saw him he was like teary-eyed at first because he doesn’t want to be suspended for no part in his head. I told him, ‘Don’t hold your head down…continue to make these A’s and B’s because that part is nothing,'” Rembert said.
“They need to notate or clarify what is a design? Spongebob, a part, a tennis shoe, whatever,” Rembert said.

Bessemer City Schools Superintendent Dr. Fred Primm said it’s hard to define an acceptable hairstyle in black and white in the school handbook. He said this is usually handled on a case by case basis.

WBRC sent Dr. Primm the student’s picture so that he could look at it and provide Rashaad’s mother some clarity.
“We allow small parts but not excessively long parts that are done as designs. That part in that young man’s hair would be considered a design. The principal has decided not to suspend the child,” Primm said.

It just turns my stomach that such a little boy should suffer such callous humiliation. You can bet your last dollar he will never forget this.

Oh he wont, Meta! You can also bet your bottom dollar that the fact his school retracted the suspension AND his mother dared to mention he was an ‘honour’ student (though why they are already ranking them thus at his age is another story IMO) will result in his teachers evaluating him more harshly. God, there is so much that is rotten hidden under the covers in the lives of certain of our citizens!

How the eff can a 7 yr old’s hair part be a threat to anyeffingbody?? It cannot. Not if he is 7, 17 or 70. It is stupid racist hogwash. This sort of stuff just puts me in a spinning rage. Then you add a Trump presidency and realize things can even get worse and more tragic. Sorry, meta, my rant for this morning, I guess. I’m still trying to get a handle on the Secret Service tossing AA’s from Trump’s rally- I tweeted the SS because I’m truly flummoxed by this. Do they take orders from Trump then? How does that work with a candidate? I swear if people don’t get out and vote against all of this shit, I will never forgive my country.

I’m wondering when some republicans will wake up and discover their nominee has no religion and no family values. I wondering when he will announce he is pro choice and supports same sex marriage. Weird times.

Now TS, you know, or you ought to by now, that Republican religion and family values are ‘different’ than a normal, regular person’s understanding of the terms./snark/ Plus even if they weren’t they still rank below voting for a Republican.
