A quick non-political entertainment tidbit, that’s about to become political…I’ll admit it, I’m a regular Dancing With the Stars watcher. Word on the street is that one of the new seasons “stars” (which will be announced officially on Tuesday) is none other than former Mrs. Trump, Marla Maples! This is gonna be fun.

She’d be great pick if we didn’t have do-nothin RWNJs running the Senate. Was a Harvard Law along with one fella named Obama. Already went through recent Senate vetting for her current job. Took almost 6 months & and renomination (after 2012 election) and finally a voice vote to get her confirmed successfully.

Interesting bio tidbit - she’s related by marriage to Paul Ryan. Her husband is twin brother of Ryan’s brother-in-law

        I would think so. 😄

Aside from her being well-qualified, I kinda wanna see PBO nominate her just to make Paul Ryan squirm. [Although he’s not in the Senate and has no real control over the confirmation process]

          GE Dudette.

          Thanks for this tidbit.

Mentioned earlier this week that I’ve avoided MSM twitter for over a week because #Campaign2016 was just too depressing.

Was wondering when Michelle Kosinski CNN asked @PressSec about IA Judge Jane Kelly (the only potential nominee that Grassley has said he would meet with) and “a relative of Paul Ryan” as potential SCOTUS nominees.

Whoever PBO selects will be imminently qualified — based on what Josh Earnest said today, wouldn’t be surprised if one of the criteria PBO is looking for is how that person can be expected to handle themselves during grueling, hate-filled committee questioning.

Also think SCOTUS nominee will also be someone who will trigger maximum angst among GOP in general, and GOP Senators up for reelection in states carried by PBO in 2008/2012 in particular.

              Oooh, delish:
“Ryan even testified on Brown’s behalf when she was nominated to the district court in 2012, offering his ‘unequivocal’ endorsement of her qualifications in recommending her for the bench.”

You’re right that Ryan won’t cast a vote for SCOTUS Justice, but if Judge Jackson is nominated, no doubt MSM hounds will be on his tail — they love angst and (potential family conflict) gossip. ;)

What a year PBO (and us Obots) will have this year.

Up next: Canada State Dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Trudeau, with some spectacular climate change agreement (and jobs?) during Justin’s state visit.

Actually, I have very different views than my two brothers so this does not surprise me.
After reading The Rise of Authoritarianism by Vox I started to understand how my brothers have such different views than I do. We were raised in a family with rigid strict rules. My Dad told us when he would say jump our only question should be How high? He was loving, not cruel but held the views that the Father was the head of the household making all rules and my Mom went along with it. Another rule was children should be seen and not heard. My brothers completely went with that authoritarian theory in their lives. I have also read that in times of stress we fall back to our childhood ways. The article says people seek out authority figures when they are stressed thus Donald Trump’s rise.
I am the opposite having married, taught school, traveled, and become involved with politics. I expanded my life views and opened my mind upon aging whereas both of my brothers have become more rigid and closed minded.

Thanks Ladyhawke for sharing VP Joe Biden’s op-Ed. VP Biden clearly laid out the Constitutional responsibilities of Senators in trying to fill a vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court. He also forthrightly debunked the distortions about his 1992 speech being circulated by Republicans and some in the so called mainstream media. For the past seven years, the United States has been blessed by two incredible leaders: President Obama and Vice-President Biden.

Russell Simmons is supporting Hillary Clinton’s bid for president.

The business magnate called Clinton a longtime friend and slammed her rival, Bernie Sanders, as a candidate who is insensitive to African-Americans’ hardships and is making promises he can’t possible keep.

“I think that Bernie Sanders is overpromising,” Simmons said Friday on CNN. “He’s insensitive to the plight of black people.”

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has proposed $15.3 trillion in tax increases, according to a new report, and would raise rates on virtually everyone, including the politically all-important middle class.

The top 0.1 percent would see their tax bills go up by more than $3 million, the report said, which would cut their after-tax incomes by almost half.

But Sanders, going where few politicians dare, would also raise taxes on middle- and low-income families, with those in the dead center of the income spectrum facing a $4,700 tax increase. That would reduce their after-tax incomes by 8.5 percent, the report said.

Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, said he is holding up bipartisan legislation to address the water crisis in Flint because Michigan’s Republican governor, Rick Snyder, has not asked for federal help and the state does not need it.

“The people and policymakers of Michigan right now have all the government resources they need to fix the problem,” Lee said. “The only thing Congress is contributing to the Flint recovery is political grandstanding.”

On the subject of PBO’s possible nominations to the Supreme Court, we are watching a master a work. A name is being dropped about every other day. And each and every one of them is somebody who is a stellar candidate, who has been through the nominating process, been confirmed overwhelmingly and had prominent Republicans like Grassley and Ryan praise them.

And when he makes the actual announcement of his choice, he will do so using the words of GOP politicians who now believe he shouldn’t even nominate anyone.

One of the charges against the Bundy gang is “Obstruction of the due administration of justice: up to 10 years”.

I think the GOP Senate should be charged with the same crime.

    • March 4, 2025 at 8:30 pm

Thank you so much, Prettyfoot for sharing this. People in my age group vividly remember Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer’s powerful testimony at the 1964 Democratic convention. As Dr. King once said, “We’ve come too far to turn around.” So many people, like Fannie Lou Hamer, sacrificed so much to make it possible for me, my children and my grandchildren, to have the right to vote; and, as Mrs. Hamer said, to be treated as “first class citizens.” I pray and hope that people of all races who believe in justice and equality will turn up to vote in great numbers, in the 2016 election, to make sure that we defeat racist politicians who are intent on restoring “white supremacy.”

I had previously read something about the disastrous condition Jindel left Louisiana’s economy, and last night Rachel had a segment talking about it. The new governor is having to cut programs to try to get them out of the red.

    • 101 carolyn
      March 4, 2025 at 10:48 pm

Sounds like Oklahoma. Headline today said departments have to make another 4% cut. Mary Fallin’s big deal was cutting our income tax, which was not high, and even now with a shortfall which is YUUUGE, she and the Rethugs won’t consider postponing it for even a year, and of course, our oil and gas income has fallen too. And Aubrey McClendon was influential in getting out oil and gas taxes criminally low. Our next governor is going to be in the same straits as Louisiana’s. These STUPID and heartless Rethugs. (Aubrey McClendon was the president of Chesapeake energy Co. who was asked to resign by his board two years ago. He is the grandson of Senator Robert Kerr, but the opposite of him politically. Also, you may have read about the crash he was in Wednesday, in which he was killed. He was under indictment by the Feds for conspiracy of something or other)

Yet they have the audacity to lie, saying that President Obama is ruining the country and that the country’s deficit is increasing. Some of those same governors want to take it to the problems they’ve created to the next level by trying to be elected POTUS.

    Must Read…

    http://www.villagevoice.com/news/if-bernie-losesdont-let-conservative-history-repeat-itself-8274880

There have been huge advances in civil rights, voting rights, and marriage equality over the past half-century. These are life-changing achievements that can all be credited to the work of Democratic administrations. So when I read the headline “Why One Millennial Feminist Would Rather Go to Hell Than Vote for Hillary” in last week’s edition of the Voice, followed by reader comments such as “Millennials, in particular, see through the BS of their elders because they haven’t experienced the benefits that corrupted previous generations of liberals” and “If voting for Bernie Sanders means Trump will come to power, so be it,” a siren — not a “ding-ding-ding” bell, but a blaring, piercing wail — went off in my head.

Here we are again, poised to sacrifice the gains of the past on the altar of ideological purity. Passion is great, kids, but what if Bernie doesn’t have the horses to get the nomination? Do you quit after he stumbles because what’s left — Hillary, presumably — doesn’t rise to your standards?

Here’s a warning about what your idealism will get you: another “I got mine” Republican administration that will affect you (and everyone around you) not just for four or eight years. You’ll be feeling the burn for the entire lifespan of whatever retrograde hanging judge President “The Donald” proclaims “The Greatest Supreme Court Nominee EVER!” And with the potential for four (maybe five) open Supreme Court seats, the possible rollbacks — if you stop to think about actual consequences — are heart-stopping.

There is plenty of talk in intertubes how the trumpistan racists will raise hell if there was a brokered convention to deny the racist punk the nomination.

IIRR, in all the primaries and caucuses so far donald dreck has not won the plurality in any of them. That means more than half the rethugs don’t want him. So, how will this ‘silent majority’ react if dreck does get the nom?
