Doesn’t matter if it’s convenient or not, the poll clerks have to be called on it. This is why poll watchers are important.

Dudette, this is why election protection lawyers have to be in place on election day. In PA we have an election lawyer assigned by our county party who is the “go to” person if any violations occur in our polling places. Poll watchers, stationed in every precinct, call into our county headquarters and we set the election lawyer to work. It’s also important to reach out to county election offices prior to the election to tell them about the system of checks you have in place and ensure their cooperation if a polling clerk violates the law. On every election day I’ve participated in since we moved to PA, this system has worked.

    Brought over..

Morning MUST READ. And if there is any smart advertising/ political campaign people out there, they will hone in like a laser on the fact that it was REPUBLICANS that decided, ON PURPOSE, to gum up Washington and blockade compromise and the President at every turn. If people are sick of Washington, then they need to know this and connect those dots….vote every damn Republican out of office and see the progress that can happen when the obstacles disappear!

      GA Dudette.

Posted this at TODville last month, but Scalia’s death quickly overshadowed anything that happened a day or two before.

Worth the read if you have time.

Sofina DeJesus is African American on her mother’s side, Puerto Rican American on her father’s side.

Her grandfather was instrumental in getting UCLA to hire its first Black professor, Angela Davis, in the 1960s, her mother was a jury panelist on the Rodney King trial.

Love seeing positive stories about the next generation of people who will make a difference.

Want to be sure everyone visiting TOD, is aware of ….

    …. especially during #WomensHistoryMonth.

“We’ve all heard about President Obama’s Irish roots, and we know his father came from Kenya. But a research team from Ancestry, the world’s largest online family history resource, has also concluded that the nation’s 44th president is also the 11thgreat-grandson of John Punch, the first documented African enslaved for life in American history.

And what’s more, the connection comes through President Obama’s Caucasian mother’s family.

This discovery follow years of research by Ancestry genealogists who, using early Virginia records and DNA analysis, linked Obama to John Punch. Punch was an indentured servant in Colonial Virginia who fled to escape servitude in 1640. After he was caught, his punishment was enslavement for life. Punch’s is the first documented case of slavery for life in the colonies, occurring decades before slavery laws were enacted in Virginia.

President Obama is traditionally viewed as an African American because of his father’s heritage in Kenya. However, while researching his Caucasian mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, Ancestry genealogists found her to have African heritage as well. Their interest piqued, the researchers kept digging. DNA analysis helped confirm that Dunham’s ancestors, known as white landowners in Colonial Virginia, actually descended from an African man. Existing records suggest that this man, John Punch, had children with a white woman who then passed her free status on to their offspring. Some of Punch’s descendants went on to be free, successful land owners in a Virginia entrenched in slavery.”

I don’t because I know from experience that there are far too many kids who feel that way for *our Dem leaders* to joke about it in a public venue.

    The state of Denial.

    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/bernie-sanders-sees-path-victory-caucus-wins/story?id=37425685

Despite winning two states, the delegate math doesn’t favor Sanders. Clinton actually won more delegates Saturday than Sanders — 65 to 47 — and leads him overall 1,121 to 479, which includes pledged and superdelegates.

Sanders said he’s looking ahead to states that vote in April and as late as June despite trailing Clinton.

“We think we have an excellent chance to do well out on the West Coast in California, state of Washington, Oregon,” he said. “We think we have an excellent chance to do well in large states like New York. We think we’re going to surprise people here in Michigan.”

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/02/28/when-bernie-sanders-thought-castro-and-the-sandinistas-could-teach-america-a-lesson.html

This is much worse than I’d realized but I haven’t really dug into his background. Even if some of it might make sense to a person ready to sit down and really parse it out, most people are not going to do that and the sound bites or pull quotes for ads would be devastating. And they think he is more electable than Clinton, whose had every moment of her life dug up for decades to the point that most people are sick of hearing about it. Of course none of this is going to make a difference to his rabid supporters, but I’m sure it would move enough independents and some Democrats not to vote for him.

In related news, I have just signed up to go to a GOTV event in Detroit tomorrow night. I’m going as part of the MEA Educators for Hillary contingent. Having started this season being kind of depressed that this primary season would be a Clinton coronation, when it looked like it would be another Clinton/Bush replay, and after the way her campaign was run in 08, I have become a supporter with more enthusiasm than I expected to have. I truly think she has changed, I think she has learned a lot from President Obama, he trusts her and I know he wants her as the next president, and she will by far be the strongest advocate for women and children. I don’t think that has been heard enough because for the political writers these issues come way down the list.

GOP hasn’t laid a finger on him yet. They will destroy him. The negatives on Hillary are already baked into the numbers because she is so well known. Much of the nation doesn’t have a clue. GOP will easily paint him as a monster and scare the country to Trump or Cruz. That he would jeopardize our future at this time seriously disturbs me.

It started with creating coats for the homeless. Then it became so much more. | Humanity FTW

The Empowerment Plan makes coats that double as sleeping bags for the homeless, but they didn’t stop there. They also provide people who have struggled with homelessness with jobs they need to get back on their feet again.

After coming up with the idea for these coats and creating the operations for manufacturing them, Veronika Scott refused to stop there and took her efforts to fighting homelessness to another level – by employing the people she was aiming to help.

This tweet reminds me of something I haven’t had time to share. Don’t know if anyone else heard the guy or not. Friday morning on CBS morning show, there was a conservative being interviewed. Was not in room when he was introduced and likely missed the first 40-60 seconds of interview. Anyway, at one point, Norah O’Donnell asked him if he thought the RP deserved this. (Meaning Trump and the rest of the clown car.) I’ve both heard and read 8-10 conservatives “sort of” admit the truth and even give some examples, but this guy was bold in his comments. He began by saying if you’ve spent years telling the people that government is bad, that everything government touches goes to “pot” (my paraphrase), that they don’t really need government, or if you’ve spent years making lots of promises to your voters, but haven’t fulfilled them, if you’ve spent years either participating in or being silent while lies, hate and fear were spread……..then, yes, the Party deserves it. The Party created this. I was astounded!!!!!!!

Sorry I missed his introduction because it was not a conservative I recognized, but by the time he was finished, I didn’t care. Was just so amazed that he was so bold in his honesty.

tnmtngirl, I looked up that clip. The speaker was Rick Davis, John McCain’s former campaign manager. He seems to have a realistic grasp on what’s happening. He said Trump IS the nominee, and there’s nothing the Republican “establishment” can do about it. His followers are hardened in and it has nothing to do with ideology. I didn’t listen to it all. What I got from him is that Trump is turning all the political conventional wisdom on its head this year.

        • 82 tnmtngirl
          March 6, 2025 at 2:59 pm

Thanks, carolyn. Yes, I remember him making those points. The things that stuck with me were ones I shared. As I said, was so astounded at his bold honesty. A few conservatives are saying some of the things we know and discuss as to the cause of this mess, but he was so “out there.”

This story is very compelling for every minority, folks of non-christrian religions, and non-white person man & woman to get off their butts and vote. It pains me to see, hear, and read Muslims who ask other Muslims to vote Republican, vote for Trump because of “family values” which is code for anti-gay, anti-woman, anti-choice, and anti-abortion. These Muslims would rather sleep with the enemy than to accept gays, minorities, and safe abortions for women.

It is not generally acknowledged, but we owe a great debt of gratitude to Nancy Reagan. She was our actual president in Reagan’s second term because of his growing Alzheimer’s dementia. She removed the extremist chief of staff that Reagan had, and curbed other extremist influences in the administration. She is the one who convinced Ronnie to make peace with Gorbachev and bring an end to the arms race and threat of nuclear war.
