The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday overturned an Alabama judicial ruling that refused to recognize a gay woman’s parental rights over three children she adopted with her lesbian partner and raised from birth.

The court took the relatively unusual step of reversing the Alabama Supreme Court without hearing oral argument. Cases are decided in that fashion when a lower court ruling is considered to be particularly counter to Supreme Court precedents. None of the eight justices dissented.

The court said in an unsigned opinion that the Alabama court was required to recognize the woman’s parental rights because they had been legally endorsed by a court in Georgia.

This “Dem proxy” stuff here in IL is, or should be, a very big issue. Rauner is recruiting fake Dems and fooling a lot of voters. This is his way of destroying our Democratic legislature in IL. And nary a word about it.

Hi Dudette, is this PBO’s list or WAPO’s “Guess List”?

      • 42 Dudette
        March 7, 2025 at 11:29 am

Of course it’s not PBO’s list. He’s only gonna submit a nominee, not a list of considerees. No President does that.

Wapo is speculating on likely candidates based on a combination of who makes sense, who’s been seen talking to people involved in the process, contacts in WH who are leaking stuff (intentionally or not), rumor mill and pure conjecture. What else are they gonna do? They gotta sell that ad space.

The recent reversal of the Supreme Court decision to recognize the parental rights of a gay parent makes me think that with the death of Scalia, John Roberts might be more than willing to give a nod to the liberal members of the Supreme Court. I think Roberts is more concerned about his legacy than with marching in lockstep with the conservative members of the court.

Well here’s the thing about SCOTUS, It always always becomes more moderate no matter who appoints them, Republican or Democrat. This has always been the pattern of the modern Supreme Court. We are likely to see this shift even in Justice Thomas.

      • 83 Dudette
        March 7, 2025 at 12:05 pm

Thomas going moderate? Pfft, I doubt we’ll see that.

idon, you are aware that Justice Thomas hasn’t opened his mouth in a decade, aren’t you? I mean to sit on the Supreme Court and not utter a single syllable makes me think Thomas isn’t concerned with moderation, he’s dug in for the long haul. I’m not saying that you are wrong in your estimation of Thomas, I’m just saying that he isn’t about to flip the script.

Yes. I watched the Clarence Thomas (perv) hearings when they originally aired and have read books and articles on the history of the Supreme Court. Yes I know it’s been 10 years since his last utterance. But I do believe it is possible for him to move toward moderation.

I do not know Chief Justice John Roberts, but my daughter that got engaged yesterday that lives in Munich now was working in DC at the law firm John Roberts was a partner at prior and after PBO came to office. In meeting and talking with my daughter’s boss at her law firm the month of Obama’s inauguration he said that Roberts was much more conservative than most people imagined.

I am really looking forward to the State Dinner for PM Justin Trudeau and his wife (I found his 60 minutes interview interesting and refreshing; despite his privileged background, he has some things in common with PBO.). I find it interesting that in the 7 years that he and Stephen Harper worked together and appeared to have an affable relationship that there was never a State Dinner for him. Does anyone have any thoughts on why this may have been?

Sometimes I wonder where does one find the courage to stand on the front lines. I don’t think it takes courage to deny a man or woman their rights, but it does take courage to fight for your rights. Few people are willing to lay down their life for a cause bigger than themselves.

Don, this weekend at my company’s retreat, I was sitting at a dinner table with two of our 40 and younger staff members and neither stated that they would be participating in the electoral process. Although they both said they didn’t want Trump to win, they had no intention to vote.

I’m still shaking my head at the level of disconnect these two people had. I didn’t want to preach at the dinner, but I did tell them both that not voting would ensure that those who do want Trump would be successful. I also warned them that they need to become involved so that will have a say as to the future of Social Security, Medi-Cal and Medicare. I told them that at this point, I’m voting for their future, because mine is already secured.

GGail next time someone tells you they will not vote, tell them you hope they like drinking lead water or having fire come out their water faucets. When Donald Trump or Bernie Sanders tax your income 20% more do not complain. Now is the time to vote for a better future. Now is the time to vote for a President that will appoint SCOTUS to get money out of politics. I don’t normally watch stupid reality shows but Caitlyn Jenner’s transgender group schooled her about the GOP. I could not believe my ears how CJ thinks the GOP is fine with LGBT issues but knows voting DEM their rights will be protected. This person is living in denial about the GOP like he lived in denial about who he really was. I changed the channel because it was just crazy that he believed GOP didn’t control other people’s lives if it weren’t traditional male, female, and Christian.

This has me wondering if our PBO who will live in DC while Sasha finishes high school there could get involved with media that would give actual facts and use it to educate voters? Not sure if the tweet is referring to something like that or not?

Ha ha ha. Be careful what you dredge up, RWNJs, and encourage to run for President - like Trump - because all of his supporters will be really mad if Mitt’s the eventual RWNJ nominee, after your convention.

And we will be celebrating a Democratic victory! As long as we take nothing for granted, and get ourselves out to vote, and keep Trump from being the KKK chosen one, Mitt can make a fool out of himself again all day long, as far as I’m concerned!

I just perplexed why some well placed Black bloggers can’t look past their hatred for the Clinton’s trump the desire to win this election and uphold what the President has risked all his energy, capital to hold up , do they want the Retugs to nominate the next SCOTUS, I voted for the President twice and that is one of the best decisions I have ever made and I loved these bloggers for supporting the President but my God how do they support an NRA puppet, one who dismiss the President work in restoring the economy, healthcare, student loans and numerous others to name, don’t they know that there is a whole dossier from the RETUGS about B. Sanders praising leftist government like Hugo Chavez how do you think the America electorate would respond, beats my imagination
