That’s all the country needs. A sleepy guy with NFTG but able to put a hold on every nomination from a Democratic President. A guy who has no empathy towards people of his race. Someone who will merge the Constitution and his bible into a governing tool and subject the rest of us to it.
He uses his hands a lot. I prefer that he spend the rest of his time thinking which hands are bigger, his of The Donald’s?
Have you ever seen him speak without raising his hands and stretching his fingers?
The batches of candidates running under the GOP ticket in recent years have had movement towards the elimination of the federal government as their agenda. They have succeeded in making the government less efficient and, from a legislative perspective, less effective. But in doing so, they are bringing about the destruction of their party. That’s what happens when you act recklessly without thought to long-term effects.
Hope the Democratic Part takes advantage of this opportunity that has been handed to them.
What amazes me, as a white male, is that any of the following required reading websites, twitter and fb to know, but I’m impressed John had the strength of character to admit that he took the time to learn and that what he learned clearly stuck ….
“1.) Since the 2008 Obama campaign, I began, through various forums, including fb, twitter, and the wealth of new websites and online journals, to expose myself to a lot more voices that include women and (I hate this term) people of color. I’ve seen and learned a lot of things that I never knew before, and have experienced vicariously what many of them have had happen to them, and it’s changed how I look at things and it has changed how I looked at Hillary.
In my opinion as a white single male with a degree of financial stability, beyond agita and heartburn, I have very little at stake in this election. I’m not going to be drafted, my insurance won’t be lost if ACA is repealed, I won’t have to worry about losing my ability to get pap smears or mammograms or basic health services if PP is closed down, I won’t have to worry about feeding my children, I won’t have to worry about the right to control my body, I won’t have to worry about getting shot in the street for walking while white or be found dead in a jail cell after failing to signal a lane change. These are not and will not be concerns for me, ever.
For women and minorities, these are things they worry about EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.”
Morning to you, Bobfr:) I thought that his reasoning for reaching this decision was precisely the right WAY to reach a decision like this….I have even thought of asking my 83 yo, Republican dad to make this vote for his grandchildren….they’ll be around much longer to feel/deal with the impact of any Republican votes….for this very same reason.
Hope you have a wonderful, productive day! Thanks for all the amazing info:)
Agree 100% with Bobfr — that’s all it really takes — take a moment to remove the #WhitePrivilege glasses you’ve unwittingly been wearing all your life (because MSM, school textbooks are white as default POV — any other POV is “dissenting” or “special [i.e., not white]) and imagine your daily life as a non-white person, or what you read/see in the news if it weren’t from the status quo perspective.
Well stated. What disturbs me is that some of the people most affected have become cynical and skeptical of the whole process. They have stopped believing in the government. They don’t vote and enable bad politicians with ill idealogies get elected.
Thanks, df. I think this corresponds to the thinking and decision process of many of us. This tracks with many of my feelings.
Except ever being gung-ho Bernie. He wanted PBO to be primaried, and I never, ever heard a solution from him, just criticism. But I’m liberal, proud of it, and so is Bernie.
I’ll share again, the shift I’m seeing in many of my Bernie-supporting friends. Many still want him to win, but they are happy to vote for Hillary as well. Yes, there are the diehard haters out there, but I’ve seen a shift in my circle.
And most important, I’m seeing a growing comfort with Hillary, and that soon shifts to actual preference. As Balloon Juice said, she appears to be younger, more vigorous as the campaign goes on. She is up to this fight, and she is up to being POTUS.
PBO succeeded because he built his coalition, earning each and every vote. He brought people into his camp as they grew more comfortable with the idea of him as POTUS. Americans like to be comfortable, and they like to feel safe. Bernie is about chaos, Hillary has managed (finally) to connect vision with competence. Even if you dislike her, there is growing consensus that she will do a good job, maybe even great job. She has tapped into her inner greatness, which she did not do in 2008. And, quelle surprise, it had to do with exhibiting her warmth and empathy. The more she does, the more comfortable in her own skin she becomes.
She is the only candidate who has shown us hope in this election, and it’s her own version of hope. She learned a lot from PBO, and I truly believe in their friendship.
One of those levels is political—as in there’s no way, in the foreseeable future, there will be sixty votes in the Senate, much less support in a likely GOP-controlled House, to pass single-payer health care, or break up the big banks, or reform the political campaign system, or provide free college tuition for every student. You can excuse that by saying, Well, that’s his vision, his end goal, maybe not achievable in his first term but possible over time, especially if we get the “political revolution” he calls for.
But there’s a deeper level at which these policy ideas are intellectually dishonest. Even if you could somehow get them passed, practically they either wouldn’t work or would be recklessly disruptive or both.
On health care, it’s not just that corporate interests would resist single-payer, as Bernie rightly says. It’s that given the fact that, for historical reasons, we’ve built out an employer-based system, any legislation that attempted to rip up that entire system from the bottom up would lead to logistical and economic chaos and to political backlash that would dwarf what the Democrats got hit with after they passed Obamacare. Why in the world would you do that, especially now that, with Obamacare, we’ve taken a huge step toward making the existing system work for those who’ve been excluded, and made at least some steps toward cost containment (though we need more, as Hillary is calling for)?
Marc Caputo, senior writer for Politico, talks with Rachel Maddow about a strategy Ted Cruz seems poised to deploy in which he ties up Marco Rubio in Florida, potentially costing Rubio his home state and hurting Rubio’s chances of picking up delegates in other states in the coming week.
THE RACHEL MADDOW SHOW 3/7/16
Outlook bleak for Rubio with everything on the line
Rachel Maddow reports on the state of the Republican race for the presidential nomination and notes that Marco Rubio’s base of support is weakening as his primary losses continue to pile up, and the senator has no job waiting for him if his candidacy fails.
PBO endorsed Patrick Murphy last week for Rubio’s open Senate seat.
Those in FL can look forward to PBO/FLOTUS/VP/DrBiden on the campaign trail in the Sunshine State later this year to support Murphy (and perhaps ding Rubio a bit while they’re at it, teehee).

I early voted today. We have a city council election in 10 days & will probably be away. So far I have seen 2 ads on TV - both from the current party in power (RW). I received a mailout from the party in power & one from our local member who is an independent. That’s it! Nothing else. Fortunately there were party workers outside the polling place who explained who everyone was (being as we have recently moved we didn’t have much of a clue) - all very friendly with each other - gathered under the one cover, shielded from the sun and rain. Big queue of 2, Mr 99 & me.
Mentioned before that I stopped looking at MSM tweets re: Campaign2016 (will resume again, but right now it’s ALL NOISE, i.e., speculation and anonymous sources).
Keep in mind that PBO’s stunning intellect and strategic thinking may deliver Dem majorities in both House and Senate to HRC next year, the best hand-off any Presidential candidate could wish for.
Regardless of who GOP nominee is, Dems will vote this November (unlike their cowardly “sit-out” because Tea Party, etc. 2010 and 2014 selves).
Special delivery to DF, Jackie4Obama and all other AZ Dems and sane GOP and Independents.
"In short, McCain is a remarkably unpopular politician" Only 33% of GOP approve job he's doing (extraordinarily low) https://t.co/Z0mBaYHCAF
I can only hope:) He needs to go. Ann Kirkpatrick, the Dem candidate who is running against him, is more of a Blue Dog…but I will vote for her hands down, over this tired, old has been. Hope he gets his ass kicked.
thanks for posting these here:) He sat on his laurels for so many years and has done nothing for the people of this state….nothing. Maybe the blocking of the SC was the last straw…
What’s up with AZ elections? Your primary day is Mar 22 (while PBO is stepping foot in the Paris of the Caribbean, Havana), but McCain’s primary is in August (according to the article in tweet)?
Does AZ have more than one primary election this year? (confused)
Isn’t this the same McBlame who was publicly lamenting his own stupidity in releasing the wordsmith from wasilla on the rest of the country, only last week? What an ass.

Foreign diplomats voicing alarm to U.S. officials about Trump
Reuters By Mark Hosenball, Arshad Mohammed and Matt Spetalnick
March 7, 2025 6:09 AM
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Foreign diplomats are expressing alarm to U.S. government officials about what they say are inflammatory and insulting public statements by Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, according to senior U.S. officials.
Officials from Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia have complained in recent private conversations, mostly about the xenophobic nature of Trump’s statements, said three U.S. officials, who all declined to be identified.
“As the (Trump) rhetoric has continued, and in some cases amped up, so, too, have concerns by certain leaders around the world,” said one of the officials.
