Late to the party but enjoying just as much. After a long day, this was brought a much needed boost to my spirit and a smile that got bigger and bigger with each picture. Malia and Sasha…what can I say. :-D Thanks Chipsticks!!!
Congratulations on first place Bill R. The two words i can translate are Good & Everyone or Everybody. From movie Eat Pray Love is Tutti is Italian fir “everybody”. Fav movie.

Day five of my vegan adventure and let me just say that McDonald’s two for five is sending messages to my brain. But with the aluminum foil I have on my windows I’m putting up a good fight.
Don, I can help you with the meat problem by eating ‘your share’. ;) Coincidentally it was only a week or so ago I was telling an avid young vegan that I respected his commitment but there’s no way I could join him. (He was trying to convince me how terrifically healthy it was and that being vegetarian was a cop-out, and that once you get started on it there’s no way you would ever go back to eating meat, yada-yada.) I’ll be keeping my eye/ear on you to see if he is right! :D
Focus on all the good stuff you’re eating! And eventually think about your diet as being primarily about those things with occasional additions. I’m not vegan or vegetarian but I hardly eat meat at all. Mostly fish and lots of veggies, occasionally chicken. Rarely beef. Cholesterol runs in my family so I just want to be careful.
I wish there was a picture of the First Family together all dressed up in the beautiful dresses. Those young ladies have grown into such beautiful classy ladies. What a special State Dinner.
I wonder how they’ll ever catch their breath- the Obama family… we know they’ve made lifelong friends all over the world, when will they rest?? Plus the millions out here who just don’t want to let go. I cannot wait to be galvanized further by Citizen Obamas.
Chips, I am late in catching up so I rarely post…but seeing this tweet about “someone” made me laugh to hard I had to comment.
Peeing myself, so going to the bathroom! You are crazy! !:) :):)
It’s just unbelievable MS, I can only assume his entire campaign is run by women-hating privileged white Berniebros - about the only thing they’ve achieved is to send me running in to the arms of Hillary
I know, who’d a thunk? :-) I started out last fall in the “anyone but HRC” camp, and now, this mansplaning, whitesplaning, “Walking Che Guevara T-shirt” (as Samantha Bee so perfectly named him), has caused me to really listen to and look at HRC 2016, rather than stubbornly clinging to my resentment over HRC 2008.
I’m exactly the same - if you told me a year ago I’d be willing HRC to victory, I’d have laughed so hard my sides woulda split. Now ….. if Bernie was to win the nomination, I’d move to Mars.
“I know, who’d a thunk? :-) I started out last fall in the “anyone but HRC” camp, and now, this mansplaning, whitesplaning, “Walking Che Guevara T-shirt” (as Samantha Bee so perfectly named him), has caused me to really listen to and look at HRC 2016, rather than stubbornly clinging to my resentment over HRC 2008.”
Madame, you’ve just explained my entire reason for going with Hillary, I can die knowing that my thoughts about Bernie have been fully realized.
This looks like it’s on his official website. Is that the case?? If it is, who in Hell is making these decisions??? Either Sanders doesn’t know what’s going on and no one’s telling him (not presidentially reassuring), or he knows but because it does not involve big banks or trade deals he doesn’t care, or he’s fine with it in which case Oh My. I have a couple of very strong female friends on Facebook who are big Sanders supporters. I wonder what they would think of this? Although one calls Hillary ‘that vile woman’, so there is that.
I ask myself that 97 times a day, Mary - is Bernie as awful as his supporters? At the start I reckoned he wasn’t, but with his ghetto remarks and everything else, I’m beginning to wonder.
I think Bernie, like Trump, knows exactly who is supporting him. For me, once he allowed the vile Obama hater, Cornel West. to be his black surrogate, I was finished with Bernie!
That’s exactly the moment I started reckoning he was as awful as his fan boys and girls, Nathkatun, he wanted to campaign against PBO, and thought he had free reign once he had a high profile blah on board. Cornel West? Pleeeeeease.
It’s getting harder to dismiss as cluelessness. It just seems to me that he doesn’t care and he gets no pushback from his supporters so he doesn’t need to care - now. Like Trumps supporters, he gets a pass on everything he says and does. (I am in no way suggesting Sanders supporters are like Trump’s in any other way.) I think he doesn’t care about sounding uncaring about women’s issues or racial issues or if he sounds offensive because none of it matters because the class struggle is paramount and as soon as he brings down those bankers everyone will see how right he is. It doesn’t seem to lose him supporters but maybe it will discourage new supporters.
What beautiful pictures of the girls! Both of their dresses are gorgeous and they have grown up to be so elegant and beautiful!
Thanks for this, Chips!
I enjoyed the coverage of the State Dinner, although I had to catch up late on every post due to my work schedule, so I couldn’t comment. But, I was grateful, as always, for the wonderful coverage and commentary here at TOD!
All the Obama ladies looked beautiful in their dresses. I just wish the length of the long dresses today was a little shorter so they do not need lifting to walk safely.
Lovely wonderful photos, loving the one with Malia’s thumbs-up to sister Sasha talking with Ryan Reynolds :) And their dresses are as beautiful as FLOTUS’ dress.
It’s likely unintentional, but almost always when the Obama ladies are out together their dresses/outfits seem (to me) to pick up something from each other’s.

Been trying to avoid talking about 2016, as I was (I’m not kidding here) getting panic attacks from following the races.
I, like most TODers, am first and foremost concerned about preserving, protecting and furthering the legacy and achievements of President Obama. HRC will not be another PBO. There will likely not be another PBO in my lifetime, if ever. I know I won’t like every decision she makes as President. She will probably frustrate me on some things and surprise me on others. However, she is the only adult in the room in the current race. PBO chose her as his Sec of State. We know now that he doesn’t suffer any fools and chooses his people wisely. I’m willing to trust her because I trust the President’s judgement.
One thing I want to remind those of us who may be stressing about the possibility (however remote) of BS getting the nomination is that PBO is on this too.
We all feel that we have a stake in this but President Obama has an even bigger stake. This is his legacy, his hard work, his achievement and vision for the country. Many of us helped, but he did the heavy lifting. He, more than any of us wants to make sure the next President doesn’t f*ck up everything that he’s worked for. He is certainly capable of picking up the phone (albeit deep behind the scenes) if he thinks her campaign needs some tweaking. PBO won two elections when the haters were telling everyone he was toast. He has the best people advising him and he’ll make sure good ones are advising her. She’s obviously listening, too. Unlike those who ran from him in 2014, HRC has smartly embraced PBO and his achievements.
We need to do all we can in terms of voting and getting out the vote of our fellow citizens. But we are not alone.
I bet they both feel like princesses in those outfits. Truly gorgeous. Malia always has a calm, thoughtful look about her. To me, Malia seems to be one of those girls who looks older, more mature, than she is. In these photos of her I see almost a queenly-ness. Their beauty is founded on the goodness and strength of their spirits, which their parents have instilled in them.
One more comment about Sanders. I was talking with a friend yesterday whose parents fled Castro’s Cuba. I asked her what she thought about that video of him that was just released where he praises Castro.
I grew up in a liberal family and was not taught “Oh no…Communism!”. My mom always talked pretty fairly about why the Batista dictatorship was horrible and that there were good and bad things about the revolution. I personally just never have liked the idea of the same guy running a country for decades and then appointing his brother to succeed him. That’s not communism; it’s a monarchy. Still, for many US liberals, the words “socialist” and “communist” are not the fear triggers that they are for conservatives. But Markos from DKos’ comment about how many Hispanic’s families associate the word “revolution” with something frightening, something that they actually came here to escape is spot on.
Back when they lived in Cuba, my friend’s parents were originally supporters of Castro’s revolution. After Batista was toppled and the revolution took over, they began to realize that what he promised and what was happening afterwards were very different. Her dad had a little neighborhood grocery store - nothing fancy. One morning he went to open his store and the government had taken possession of it. Now, my friend’s dad was willing to cooperate for the good of the new government and the people, but they told him that he couldn’t even work at the store anymore! He was told he was just out of work. His wife was pregnant (with my friend) and so he went to visit his cousin in Mexico, hoping to work and earn enough money to bring his wife out so they could both make it to the US. While he was working to get her out, Castro’s government forced her (pregnant, mind you) to work in the fields. She got out and they finally both made it here and were able to raise their daughter and live a nice life.
She told me that every time they see Bernie Sanders on the TV they get upset and yell “Communism!” so loud that the neighbors can hear.
This is one reason why he will never be elected in the General. There are many immigrants who have had experience with unicorn promises of “revolution” turning into ugly realities.
Similar liberal background for me. But I am a child of the cold war. I’ve been in communist countries in Eastern Europe in the 60s. I’ve seen the effects of communism close up. There is nothing good in Castro’s regime that makes up for the oppression, the violence, and the poverty he has inflicted on his own people. I have studied marxism as a political science student, and the historical development of marxism throughout the world. In every case it has resulted in violence and oppression towards its own people. Bernie Sanders, if you trace his own development, starting with his early formation in the 40s on an Israeli kibbutz that was affiliated with Soviet style marxism, has always looked at the world from the perspective of one dimensional class warfare. Everything is seen through that lens. And that is why he doesn’t get racism, or any of the other important issues of the day. It’s always about the demon Wall St. and big bands. He thinks he is on a messianic quest to make the US into a socialist country. Not gonna happen here. I am of the liberal democratic tradition, in which we have a well regulated free enterprise economic system, combined with a robust non-profit safety net as a core of our social system. We are a diverse, pluralistic society where persons and groups with differing interests unite together on the common ground of values of equal opportunity for all. That is the creed of the liberal democratic tradition and that is my creed. Bernie Sanders hates the Democratic Party and has refused to call himself a liberal democrat. Need we say more.
From what I hear on MSNBC the police met with Donald Trump and convinced him to cancel his rally in Chicago. Trump is acting like he is the hero by cancelling. He spins it like it is too bad because of the terrible conditions of no jobs etc you cannot even hold a peaceful rally. He seems to not see his part of inciting violence by his yelling from the podium “Get them outta here” and all the encouragement by him of disrupting the escorting out of the protesters by slurring the protesters. Now Ted Cruz is taking advantage of the moment with PBO’s words of we are better than this. Maybe Donald Trump’s tv Wrestling affiliation has taught him his uncivil ways.
Hey, don’t even joke about that. One of his (many) girlfriends, Kenzie the Husky, started digging that hole, and Danny, um, augments its deepiness whenever he sees it. And I’m standing there thinking, ‘what the friggin’ hell is down there?’

I think we’ve been saying this for quite some time — two sides of the same coin — my term WSSQ (white supremacy status quo - white as default), supporters who accept that whites make the rules in this country and seek revenge against anyone who doesn’t agree.
IMHO, both sets of supporters are smugly greedy and are incapable of seeing someone else’s POV.
@ddale8 Which is another way to say MSM style guide is to present all stories from a white POV (paychecks must depend on adherence to this).
I thought the protesters were chanting Bernie, not the Trump attendees. Both sides are extreme, so naturally clash.
Putting a rally on at a University near a downtown area on a Friday night does not seem like a sane decision. Rachel had put together clips in a video of Trump’s rallies where he chanted inciting venom encouraging violence against the protesters being escorted out. The escalation was obvious.
A President is supposed to keep people safe not incite actions that endanger their safety.
anyone with a brain knew that it was just a matter of time before the incitement by the gop hateful “front runner” would lead to a full-blown confrontation.
why do we have to spend our taxes on the USSS (and other local law enforcement) protecting a candidate who is inciting violence
of course, that is what evil people do. they manipulate the masses using incendiary language or actions then they act as victims when others push back against their behavior or speech
I have not watched any Bernie rallies, or for that matter Hillary rallies. However I just saw a picture on Twitter of Bernie’s rally in Florida and the place was fully packed. I am still trying to get what his draw is. I refrain as much as possible from attacking any dems, yes for now that includes Bernie Sanders. I think it’s time I checked out these rallies. It was hard enough to watch a repub debate and a dem debate. I just don’t like anyone. yes I’ll vote for Hillary, because I actually think she wants to be a great leader/ president… as the first woman, I just don’t believe she would want to screw that up. As for Bernie yes I would vote for him too, if he was actually nominated.. but I really prefer he isn’t.
Another thing, if Trump is stupid enough to come to Baltimore- I will go to the protests. I’v made up my mind that I will not sit by if he comes to our city.
Based on how quickly some Berniebots resort to virulent attacks against anyone they perceive to be Hillary supporters, sounds like something out of Ratf*cking 101.
GOP know their party is completely fragmented, that they have fielded weaker and weaker candidates since McCain unleashed the Tundra Twit, and that their only hope for capturing the Presidency this year is by running against a nasty socialist.
Trump’s legacy will be as the Chaos King, with the MSM as co-conspirators — they simply refuse to call out Trump unless one of their own precious journalists is manhandled by Trump goons.
Free speech is one thing … but knowing the headliner is calling for violence puts THE FREAKIN’ VENUE at risk as enabler - if for no other reason than NOT having appropriate security there, to protect participants. (I’m not a lawyer - just play one on twitter.)
@UICnews Has Univ of Illinois at Chicago issued statement WHY they allowed their venue to be open for Trump hate rally endangering everyone?
I think in the end the Republicans will choose John Kasich as their nominee, Trump has overplayed his hand. He has made himself useless to the Republicans. Kasich’s one redeeming value is that he’s less crazy than both Cruz and Rubio. And in the end Hillary will promptly hand Kasich his ass in the general election. Afterwards I will leave TOD and return to my life of solitude and deep contemplation.
Buon giorno a tutti!
:-)
Thanks Chips for these lovely pictures. Malia and Sasha are absolutely gorgeous young women.

This is cool!
Muwwwwah! **Thanks** CC and Meta! :) :) :)
These are *GREAT!!!
Oh, and ‘Thanks, ever so much, Pete. ‘
Lovely pictures and the Obama girls looks so beautiful just like their Mom. I know POTUS and FLOTUS are so proud of them.
Day five of my vegan adventure and let me just say that McDonald’s two for five is sending messages to my brain. But with the aluminum foil I have on my windows I’m putting up a good fight.
:-) {{{Don}}}} Is your aim to do this permanently, or is it a trial run?
Good question, I want it to 21 days first and then go from there.
I want to do 21 days first and see how it goes.
Its like everywhere I go I see meat, online or out in the world, goddamn meat.
Ah, okay.
Someone, LOL!
I shoulda said ‘nobody’ :???:
Hay Don, who is someone :) ?
Chips, I am late in catching up so I rarely post…but seeing this tweet about “someone” made me laugh to hard I had to comment.

If I lived there, I know where I’d be this Sunday:
Check out the photos in the linked article, spectacular amateur pics from all over the world. :)
Mr. Tough Guy No So Tough.
REALLY???? Since when has he been concerned about security?
Good evening Chips & TOD!!! What stunning young ladies - love those beautiful gowns!! :)
ok, tell us the truth. whose body didja bury in there?
that farm owner is a bff of yours?
Hey, don’t even joke about that. One of his (many) girlfriends, Kenzie the Husky, started digging that hole, and Danny, um, augments its deepiness whenever he sees it. And I’m standing there thinking, ‘what the friggin’ hell is down there?’
let the boy ‘dig’ the truth out. 8-)
If he finds a limb, I am ***so***** sending it to you.
cool.
Truffles
Is that Danny digging in the dirt? Chips, were you hiding his bone? LOL He sure was busy.
That’s him, Roberta! He’s bonkers :-)

GE JER.
SMH, but not surprising. Amazing what a calm, competent, deep-thinking President can do to this country.
So Trump and Sanders have the same supporters?!?!?
GE HF2.
Original tweet:
yes, at least per bs.
I knew this day would come.
A President is supposed to keep people safe not incite actions that endanger their safety.
this is very confusing. Is it Trump supporters shouting Bernie or Bernie supporters that were protesting Trump?
it is truly Mayhem is going on …goodness
I wonder if the proprietor of that establishment would like to run to be GOP frontrunner.
Are any of you listening to CM interview Trump? It is making me literally ill. Going to mute until Trump is off!! It is typical Trump.
LOL @ malia photobombing her sis.
anyone with a brain knew that it was just a matter of time before the incitement by the gop hateful “front runner” would lead to a full-blown confrontation.
why do we have to spend our taxes on the USSS (and other local law enforcement) protecting a candidate who is inciting violence
I decided to turn to MSNBC and Matthews is interviewing Trump. He is blaming everyone except himself.
of course, that is what evil people do. they manipulate the masses using incendiary language or actions then they act as victims when others push back against their behavior or speech
carnival barker - the kenyan nailed the racist pos right from the beginning.
I think the Republican party is suplying most of the people.
“supplying”
GE idon.
Chicago, Chicago, ….., Chicago!!!
Have watched one of the skycam videos livestreaming from the street location in Chicago.
The Chicago Police Department is trying to separate the people from the opposing sides.
It does not appear to be an easy task.
officers keep chasing groups to try and make them leave the scene .. it may be a long night
TRUMP aka Il Douche built this.
yes, he did
smile murkkka. you’re on international
candidcreepy camera.I KNEW HE WOULD. He’s going to start calling them race riots and blame POTUS. You watch.
Finally. Rachel says Trump “incites violence.” Very deliberately and strong. Good for her.
worth the repost.

Thank you for that moment of sanity, JER!
My pleasure JOB.
Free speech is one thing … but knowing the headliner is calling for violence puts THE FREAKIN’ VENUE at risk as enabler - if for no other reason than NOT having appropriate security there, to protect participants. (I’m not a lawyer - just play one on twitter.)
they received a petition with 40,000 sigs requesting that they not allow the rally
WOW.
New post.

OMG! I’m gonna cry! Look at Malia and Sasha all grown up and gorgeous!!! 😍😍😍
Wow! It just looks like they had a truly magical evening! ❤️
