This looks like Mr. 57 and the dogs when I left the house this morning. He was watching TV in bed, Pearl was on the pillow above his head, Kasper was on his lap, and Nickelby was at his feet.

Congrats, Allison! Woke up at 3 a.m. with the startling thought that POTUS might nominate Sandra Day O’Connor to put the ultimate squeeze on the GOP. Must have been the celebratory wine talking.

Once the President announces his choice, it’s going to be up to us to hit the phones. Maybe Hillary’s 5/5 sweep last night will convince Senate R’s that this may be their last chance to influence a SCOTUS nomination. If Hillary wins in November, she will likely carry enough Dem Senate candidates with her to flip the Senate. Then you would have a Hillary SCOTUS nominee approved by a Dem Senate. Act now, Senate R’s or you may have to forever hold your peace.

Did you hear her speech last night, jackie? Mr. 57 and I couldn’t believe how good it was. And one of her points to these “activists” [supporting Bernie] was that you have to be activists all the time if you really mean it, and get out there and support PBO on his nomination to SCOTUS.

      • 32 jackiegrumbacher
        March 16, 2025 at 9:29 am

No, 57, I didn’t hear-was too tired out from a cold/cough to stay up, but I’m going to look it up today. She’s absolutely right though, fair weather activism isn’t enough to get the job done as we learned all too painfully in 2010 and 2014. Good for Hillary for saying so.

        • 33 57andfemale
          March 16, 2025 at 9:32 am

I don’t want to sway you, I’m interested in your honest opinion. But Mr. 57 and I couldn’t not believe how great a speech it was. Hillary has found her voice. It was excellently written, but she delivered it as if it was extemporaneous.

The line about the SCOTUS nominee was so adept at shining a light on Sanders’ fair weather Dems without being insulting.

Reposting this from yesterday’s Early Bird thread because it’s now the day after #SuperTuesdayII primary elections AND PBO will announce SCOTUS nominee soon.

Matthew J Dowd, chief strategist of Bush/Cheney 04, said on Sunday:

US Senators “are paid by the US Treasury… US Senate should do their job… they show up day after day. They get a paycheck and they should vote it up or down.

I think as of Wednesday morning the GOP position is going to change on this.

If Trump does well in the primaries on Tuesday night, they’re gonna figure out that maybe a nominee by Obama is better than a nominee if Donald Trump is the nominee.”

    To all, I hope that you have a cheerful, fun-loving, and super-fantastic day today. <3 <3 <3

Giordano was a bit hair-on-fire all day yesterday, too, telling up we should have phone banked more. I thought something good may be afoot after I saw his projections late in the day.

And there were the (perhaps erroneous?) reports all day that massive numbers of Dems were bailing to vote for Trump or Kasich in OH.

Bernie should stay in but stop doing damage, although that’s less of an issue now I think. MSM will ignore Hillary completely because of the “excitement” of the GOP race. But damn, I want to do some work on getting rid of the odious Mark Kirk in IL. We really have to get serious about the fascist who will be the GOP nominee. There is so much work to do.

Good morning! I was glad to see that HRC had a great night with a trifecta and a double-play. I hope she doesn’t mind the pressure of having to defeat the USA’s home grown little tyrant version of Kim Jong-un.

So I’m trying to find where I read last night that primary turnout is completely unrelated to general election turnout. But it was a factual, historical piece that references elections in which the Dem primaries had lower turnout than GOP but the Dem nominee won handily in those states.

On the local front in Illinois:

Well, I am happy on the local front for the results from last night.

Anita Alvarez had to go. I had never been fond of her, but I was done with the result of the Rekia Boyd murder. From the result of that, I just felt nothing but disgust when I saw her. So, seeing her go down made me very happy. And, those who put up that fraud More shot themselves in the foot - More didn’t take votes from Foxx - she took them from Alvarez.

And, as for Ken Dunkin…don’t let the door hit you on your way out. I absolutely despise Michael Madigan..but, even when you have the Devil in your midst, somehow, there always happens to be an even worse Devil in the form of our Governor- Bruce Rauner. We have been without a State Budget since July. The thought…the mere thought.,..that ANY Democrat would side with Rauner - FOR ANY REASON - I didn’t give two shyts what Madigan decided to do to Dunkin. So, good riddance to him, and I hope the 30 pieces he got from Rauner was worth it, considering the thousands of the ‘least of these’ in my state that have been hurt because of Dunkin’s paid -for ‘ independence’. Negro, please.

And, Tammy Duckworth won. Wasn’t feeling her, but Andrea Zopp didn’t even reach out to the Black community like she should have..so, oh well. I’ll support Duckworth to get rid of Kirk.

      March 16, 2025 at 9:49 am

My feelings exactly, rikyrah. Any one of the Dem Senate candidates would have been fine, but we stand our best chance with Duckworth. Zopp didn’t reach out to anybody, or didn’t have the money to do so. I didn’t get one piece of literature from her.
