The report shows that companies are not only hiring more workers but also retaining the ones they already have to handle demand. Fed officials said in a statement Wednesday after their monetary policy meeting that there was a host of data pointing to “additional strengthening of the labor market.”

    Still thanking Obama!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Chips and TODers. Today is the day when I will encounter a lot of Bernie supporters at the Progressive meeting Mr.G and I chair. We founded this group 12 years ago, but it is only this year that my irritation level has soared. I bought lots of St. Pat’s day cookies and a huge bag of popcorn in the hope that if the Bernie lovers are stuffing their faces, they can’t talk as much. Hope everyone else has a great day.

Carson on Trump comparing him to a child molester: “It did work”
    March 16, 2025

On March 16, 2016, Dr. Ben Carson spoke to Yahoo News and Finance Anchor Bianna Golodryga on “Yahoo News Live” about his endorsement of GOP frontrunner Donald Trump and Trump’s big wins in the March 15 primaries.

Golodryga pressed Carson on his support for Donald Trump even though Trump had compared him to a child molester. Carson said he accepted Trump’s explanation for the remark, and that it was, in fact, effective. “He said that it was political. He was concerned about the fact that he couldn’t shake me. I understand politics and, in particular, the politics of personal destruction, and you have to admit, to some degree, that it did work.” He continued, “A lot of people believed him.”

Rikyrah, I think this may be further confirmation that Carson suffered some kind of brain damage. These are not the words of a fully sane person-they are the words of someone suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.

This is a self-hate that is almost impossible to understand, how far away must this brother run to get away from himself. Whatever feelings or emotions I had for Dr. Carson have been replaced with pity. This brother is a brain surgeon, which means that he’s qualified to open up a person’s skull and operate on them. Clearly he’s highly intelligent, so now we must ask ourselves what is going on with this brother? What has happened to Dr. Carson that made him accept being called a ‘child molester?’ I truly worry about some of our brothers.

The Constitution says the President nominates and the Senate gives advise and consent on the pick. It does not say the people vote for the Supreme Court Judges.

Trump, Cruz vow to barricade Kasich from convention

Advisers to Donald Trump and Ted Cruz say there’s no way they’ll allow John Kasich to even compete at a contested national convention — let alone prevail.

Trump and Cruz are betting that their dual dominance in the delegate hunt will permanently box out the Ohio governor, who has no mathematical path to the nomination and is openly pursuing a floor fight at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. And their aides say Kasich won’t even make it to the floor.

“There is virtually zero chance he can even be nominated,” Saul Anuzis, a former Michigan Republican national committeeman who’s advising Cruz on his convention strategy, told POLITICO. “It’s a two-man race.”

  21. 57 rikyrah
    March 17, 2025 at 9:12 am

I don’t even understand how we’re supposed to take this seriously. I mean, the entire idea is ridiculous to me. Am I the only one?

The voters are choosing one person. Sure, he might fall a little short,in terms of delegates, but in state, after state, that clown is winning. The GOP voters are choosing him.

And, they are like, discussing this as a possibility?

    ………………….

Kasich camp names advisers with contested convention experience

John Kasich’s campaign announced a quartet of high-profile additions to its national strategy council on Tuesday night, fresh off the Ohio governor’s victory in his home-state primary, as he tries to force a contested convention in Cleveland this July.

“Governor Kasich showed tonight how you defeat Donald Trump and bring our party together,” chief strategist John Weaver said in a statement. “This is going to be a long road to the nomination in Cleveland, and we’re thrilled to grow our team of advisers with some of the best minds in the Republican Party.”

Those joining the effort include Stu Spencer, who served as Ronald Reagan’s chief strategist for his two gubernatorial campaigns in California in 1966 and 1970 and his two presidential campaigns in 1980 and 1984; Charlie Black, who advised Reagan and both Bushes in the White House, as well as Sen. John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign; former Rep. Vin Weber (R-Minn.), who advised Newt Gingrich leading up to the 1994 midterm elections as well as serving as a top adviser to presidential candidates Bob Dole, George W. Bush and Mitt Romney in past campaigns; and longtime Tennessee operative Tom Ingram, who served in a similar capacity for erstwhile candidate Jeb Bush.

They’re desperate, rikyrah. The GOP failed to stop Trump and Creepy Cruz at the beginning and now they’re reaping what they sowed. Kasich is the only one left standing so he’s going to play a last ditch, Hail Mary pass to see if he can overturn the front runners on the convention floor.

    Really? Seriously?

GOP official: The party chooses the nominee, not the voters
    March 16, 2025

A member of the Republican National Committee’s Rules Committee said Wednesday that the party will decide who the GOP nominee will be, not the voters.

“The media has created the perception that the voters will decide the nomination,” Curly Haugland said in an interview with CNBC. “That’s the conflict here.”

“The political parties choose their nominees, not the general public, contrary to popular belief,” he added.

GOP rolls out baffling double standard for Obama’s Court nominee
    03/17/16 08:40 AM
    By Steve Benen

Just about every senator in both parties issued written statements yesterday responding to President Obama nominating Judge Merrick Garland for the Supreme Court, but Sen. Pat Toomey’s (R-Pa.) stood out as unique.

Facing a credible re-election challenge this year, Toomey has already joined his party’s blockade against any high court nominee this year, but in his press release, the Pennsylvania Republican managed to blaze his own trail: “Should Merrick Garland be nominated again by the next president, I would be happy to carefully consider his nomination.”

Hmm. If some other president nominates Garland, Toomey might support the jurist’s confirmation, but not this president. Garland may deserve careful consideration in January 2017, but in March 2016, according to Toomey, it’s out of the question.

    • 63 jackiegrumbacher
      March 17, 2025 at 9:22 am

Toomey just self identified as a racist. I’m going to do everything I can to make sure this does not go well for him this election year and I hope millions of PA Democrats join me.

GM, and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
I listened to the video of Alexander Wolfe speaking at a DC bookstore about his book on basketball and its influence on PBO and he said something that I have heard white so-called journalist and others used when speaking of the president’s upbringing: “A Black kid being raised by white people, or a white family” as if he was adopted of fostered! He is a bi-racial or multi-racial child who was raised by his mother and his maternal grandparents when he was abandoned by his father, or even better, leave the racial description out which is not needed when you simply look at him. They try to make him seem as “other” in his own family, instead of as he is/was: a child deeply loved and raised by the maternal side of his family. Yes, he struggled with identity when he was younger because of the racist society that we live in, but PBO has said many times (and there are many photos in the public realm to prove it) that he got his values of kindness, hard work, and an international way of perceiving the world from his mother and grandmother “Toots” (from the Hawaiian word for grandmother, Tutu).

    • 73 vetivera24
      March 17, 2025 at 9:49 am

I hate that too. He was raised by his mother and grandparents period as so many kids are. If he had issues the loving support he received helped him to overcome something that many kids have to deal with whether bi-racial or not. Finding our place in society is a challenge for many but we grow with each challenge just as he did. For my left handed grandson in a world of righties, the fact that PBO is left handed is a bigger positive than their bi-racial background.
