Chat Away

Good Morning TODville!! It’s #DoyourjobSaturday My job today is to make some phone calls to some Senators and laundry.

Found this tweet and article about who Hilliary’s voter’s are. I just added we are also the Obama Coalition.

Thanks, MtMarilyn for sharing this article. Hillary Keeps on winning because so many of us in the Obama coalition have decided to back her. She is the only candidate who will preserve and build on President Obama’s accomplishments.

Good West Coast morning Chipsticks & TOD family. Congrats NW on First!
I’ve become fascinated by the DC Eagle Cam. The first baby has been eating and is pretty frisky :-)
Currently there is a fish laying in the nest, brought by the other Eagle and I’m watching to see when it will be consumed.

This is the article in which Sanders has defined what is wrong with the DEMs…keep in mind he is not a DEM….and talks about why they have lost the white vote…

IMO….the DEM party has been the party of workers’ rights…of human rights…of women’s rights….. of immigrant rights…yet Bernie does not see that…

he thought that he could hoodwink blk voters…hispanic voters into voting for him…but he never saw our issues as central…and now that he was not able to con us…he has abandoned all pretext and shooting for that so-called white vote…be it the progressive purist or rw radical …

one other thing…DEMs have to beware of Sanders…regardless if Hillary wins the nomination…i anticipate that unlike in 2008 when Hillary was able to push for party unity…i do not see that happening with Sanders…i think he may be willing to rock the convention…i hope that we are all ready for this…

I hear he is pushing really hard for the Hispanic vote in AZ. He and Tad Devine have done some serious framing. If he gets a better percentage of the Hispanic vote, even if he loses hell call it momentum. He has the supporters selling the line that any momentum is reason to steal delegates and make mischief at the convention. At least that’s their plan. So I’d love to see Hillary do very well in AZ and NY.

me too…i know that if i see the ruckus that Sanders want to raise at the convention…that others must see too…i have trust in the Obama folk or are influencing the campaign…that they see this as well…and who are organizing on the ground….we can not allow Bernie Sanders to Hijack the party…

57, if he was pushing so hard for the Hispanic vote, he shouldn’t have allowed his wife to give free publicity to Sheriff Arpaio, who is anathema to Hispanics. Plus, plus he and his supporters can push any line he wants, but math is math and he not only can’t win the nomination, but NO Super Delegate is going to support a Socialist over a Democrat.

I watched a replay of the latest Rachel Maddow show explaining the antics of the Ron Paul campaign in 2012. I personally believe its the same weird thinking that propels the Sanders campaign. Take what you want, and other people can just be disenfranchised. She was raising in a tabloid type way the spectre of an even worse convention this year with someone like Trump. She outlines the cheating the Paul campaign did to game the system and override the voters wishes. Sanders campaign types seem to see themselves in that way to, imposing themselves on others. I also heard annecdotally that people are shying away from caucus attendance because of the in your face behavior of the Sanders supporters so its depressing turnout for the other candidate. I was grateful for the airing of what was done in 2012 so that we are reminded of the shenanigans. Its easier to call a spade a spade when we all know what we are referring to. I think I might just start referring to it as the Paul/Sanders campaign from now on.

I think he is so rigid in his thinking he can’t understand why black voters think their existential issues are as important as the focus of his life: income inequality. He’s now mad at them because “they just don’t understand”. Sanders has so inflamed his followers against Clinton (probably leaning that way anyway), that even if he does try to push for unity they will be angry and disruptive. I have one facebook contact who has said that she will vote for Sanders or Jill Stein but will never vote for Clinton- her hatred is virulent. This a highly educated well-read woman. She supports President Obama.

I heard a woman Sanders’ supporter interviewed on NPR this week saying she would vote for Trump instead of that lying Hillary if Bernie does not make it.

          March 19, 2025 at 3:18 pm

What this means, Mary, is that we have to register new voters and get them out to vote. Many people who have been working to get their citizenship requirements are rushing the process forward because they want to vote against Trump in the next election. We have to reach out to them and steer them to the Democratic Party. Also we have not yet had President Obama and VP Biden on the campaign trail and we will see them in all their glory, along with FLOTUS and VFLOTUS in the fall. These are serious campaigners, as are Hillary Clinton and Bill. The important thing is not what people say now, but what they do next November when faced with the reality of a Trump, or God forbid, a Cruz presidency. Not voting or voting for a third party might not seem so attractive then.

I agree, jackieg. It’s part of the reason that I want Sanders to concede now so that President Obama and his team can really get to work. He said he’d run his last campaign, but this is really his campaign too as he works to protect and continue the progress he has made. It looks like I’ll be retiring in June. Until then I’ll be really busy but this summer I’m going to be volunteering my head off.

Pf, I think that President Obama and Hillary Clinton are too smart to allow Sanders or anyone else to disrupt the convention and risk telegraphing dissension within the ranks. Hillary will win the nomination and Sanders will need to win his Senate seat in 2018. If he threatens anything the Democratic Party could pledge to run a strong Dem against him and back that person to the hilt. Sanders could also be denied key committee assignments when the new Senate convenes in 2017. It is 100 percent up to the nominee who speaks at the convention. Hillary could deny him a slot or put him on at 2:00 in the morning and he would have no recourse.

I just got home from the 2nd Congressional District Democratic Delegate Nominating Convention. We had a Bernie Caucus (50 people) and a Hillary Caucus (76) people. Each caucus elected one female and one male to go to Philly. Hillary’s also elected an alternate. We were in a large high school auditorum and on opposite sides from each other. Can I just say that the Bernie group was exceptionally loud a number of times, sometimes to the point of being rude. Was I surprised?! Nope, but sure was frustrated.

This is a really bad idea that could set a very dangerous precedent. People are free to choose and rally for whomever they wish in a democratic society. The price of openness is that we have to share the country and live with people whose ideas are very different from ours. We have a system that provides for dissent that is part of our constitution. Think how we would have felt if others had tried to bar our access to PBO during 2008 and 2012.

. This the profile of Republicans who used to be called Reagan Democrats. They’ve been part of the GOP coalition or more than 30 years. And their views have always been the same. Nativism/racism, authoritarian/lawandorder, nationalist/militarist, economic populists. These are blue collar white people who used to vote for Democrats until Democrats became the party of civil rights, civil liberties and anti-war protests.

People who hold that set of beliefs are Republicans because they do not want to be in multi-racial, multi-ethnic coalition where “liberal peaceniks” and uppity feminists are equal partners. The GOP’s fundamental nativism and racism and “patriotic” militarism are the reasons they prefer the Republicans and they are the reasons they prefer Donald Trump.

    ***********************

These are the folks that Bernie hopes to wooo….

This new rule will mean that if an employee who makes up to $50,440 is expected to work more than 40 hours in any given week, their employer will have to pay them at the overtime rate - which is projected to affect approximately 5 million people. Of course, employers could chose to simply hire more workers - which will further reduce the unemployment rate. But given that it is now under 5%, that might be difficult. This is why the timing on this rule change is critical. If it had come when the unemployment rate was higher, it likely wouldn’t have had much impact on wages.

If unforeseen circumstances arise over the course of a long primary season that may reveal troubling issues pertaining to a presidential candidate (as in the Gary Hart candidacy of 1984), the Democrats can exercise a fail-safe option to neutralize that threat. It should be abundantly evident that many Republicans now wish they had such an option to use against the obnoxious candidacy of Donald Trump.

This picture shows perfectly why President Obama has the support of the world - International issues

He knows and can pronounce, the names of 99% (could be 100%) of world leaders. He has met so many of them - at conferences, in the US or on his travels. He can call these people and talk to them using first names. No “cold calling” involved.

How on earth would any of the GOP pretenders do this? They have alienated a large part of the world with his campaign rhetoric - all of ’em and any of ’em - the front runners being the worst. Trump’s language (if not scripted by someone else) is not even at the level of my grandbabe ( 3 years old).
