Glancing back while waiting to move forward [from end of previous post, here’s @Interior’s recap].

Thanks, Chips! I was looking for these times today so that I could plan my afternoon (have to take a young guest back home sometime today) and couldn’t remember the post in which they’d already been shared. I did check the WH post but no luck.

Obama’s March 20-22 visit has raised Cubans’ hopes that a new era in relations with the United States will bring an end to the U.S. trade embargo and improve life for everyone on the island. For Afro-Cubans in particular, the presidential trip carries a special charge, a hope that an African-American leader’s near-universal popularity among Cubans of all races will help end lingering prejudice and inequality.

Editorial: Majority’s voice ignored in SCOTUS stall

    http://qctimes.com/news/opinion/editorial/editorial-majority-s-voice-ignored-in-scotus-stall/article_90b6da66-1f34-57d3-93b4-ea4b12c2fe56.html

Here’s a number for you, Sen. Grassley: 816,429.

That’s how many Iowans preferred President Barack Obama over Mitt Romney in 2012. That’s how many “voices” your utter obstructionism is silencing from your home state in the name of false principle and partisanship.
    .
    .
But this isn’t just any year. It’s a year of Republican rage. It’s a year of right-wing disdain for constitutional principles counter to its reactionary doctrine. It’s a year of demonizing the 63 million Americans who voted for Barack Obama in 2012.

It’s the year of acting as if the majority’s voice doesn’t count.

These analyses are remarkable…because what is happening in the Senate is not new it has been taking place since that fateful Inaugural day in 2009 when the GOP decided to OBSTRUCT everything the President did…even in the midst of a economic crisis that threatened not only to take down America but the world….

where were these media voices then…

our own Judith’s letter to the editor re: #SCOTUS obstruction by the GOP

Merrick Garland nomination: Last week, after a meticulous vetting process and consultation with members of Congress and the judiciary, President Obama fulfilled his constitutional mandate by announcing the selection of Judge Merrick Garland as his nominee for the Supreme Court.

It is the duty of the Senate to advise and consent now, not after the next election.

Senators took an oath of office to uphold the Constitution, and this is their job.

No one is saying Judge Garland isn’t highly qualified or too partisan. He was confirmed for his current position on the D.C. circuit court by a bipartisan majority.

Some of the Republicans are pretending that it would be okay to not even give him a hearing or a vote, using the lame excuse that the voters should choose a new president first. We the people already used our voice to re-elect President Obama, whose term doesn’t end for nearly 300 days.

    There is plenty of time.

    Do your job, senators!

Have been visiting Antigua in the Caribbean. The highest point of the island has been renamed in honor of PBO, Obama Peak. Parents, teachers, and other elders are using PBO as an example to keep boys in school and to further their education. They say, “Look what an educated man has accomplished for his people and his country! Any one of you can make a difference.” People are closely following the Cuba visit. I could not be more proud at the moment!

      March 20, 2025 at 2:04 pm

Wow, that’s quite an honor they’ve bestowed on our PBO! It’s wonderful to see so many lift us our President as an example to their young ones. He is the pride of the world!

Enjoy your visit to Antigua. I hope I’m lucky enough to go there someday.
