Hola Chips! I’ve been leaving you thank yous and comments at all the wrong times and missing you the past couple of days :-)
Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! for this amazing place and for this wonderful, comprehensive coverage of this historic event. Are you (still?) Catholic? I think you should be nominated for sainthood after 2017 (or whatever the process is for that :-) )
Please give Danny a hug from me and tell him to give you one!
Great. I hope that they are REAL votes, not like in 2012, when Jeff Blake got in by technicality…..too many provincial votes cast were thrown off…..over 300K of them.
I truly envy your Twitter Tweets summations. Lady, a tip off my hat! Brava! >-I>-I>-I
I don’t know how You do it so quick, fast and informative. Thanks, NW.
The question that really got Castro fired up was the one about political prisoners. He said if the reporter could name them, or give him a list he would free them. He asked angrily again, “Can you name any?” The reporter could not but when hands were being raised in the audience, he ended the press conference by saying that they had some other meetings to go to, then he clumsily reached for PBO’s hand, but caught him just below the wrist instead to hold it aloft. A very awkward moment and more followed as they left the stage.
When all is said and done, Cuba is a small, very poor country that is not a threat to us and needs our cooperation much more than we need anything from them. PBO, who is all about peace, stability, and the economic health of our country, ended a policy that made us look stupid and petty to the rest of the world. He is all about the healing old wounds and moving forward into a future that work better for more people. The old guard Cubans who ran S. Florida and had too much sway in regional politics have lost much of their power and standing; politicians are not kissing up to them as they did before PBO. He will listen to their concerns as he did just before he made this trip, but it did not influence what he intends to do. It is time for all to move on; it is another new day brought to us by the vision of the 44th U. S. President, Barack Hussein Obama.
Thanks for your summary, CEB. I sometimes get a wee bit testy when these MSM idiots ask their dumb questions. Today I wanted to yell at Mitchell that compared to 88 years of nothing, PBO’s initiative is just being birthed. They ask their questions with very little realization that ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’ and the reintegration of Cuba won’t either.
They are all about making a name for themselves with the owners and other journalist, not asking insightful questions to help us to understand national and world affairs. Andrea has gone long past her expiration date and it is more than time to join Alan in retirement.
I felt the American reporters were all about asking insulting embarrassing questions as usual at the delicate international event. They represented the old ways and reasons we did not relate with a country that has their own values that are different from us. They seemed to be all about embarrassing the Cuban leader in his own country. PBO sees things in a more respectful way. Hearing that we do not provide humane care for our citizens such as education, food, housing and healthcare from Raul is correct when talking of overall results due to the GOP. We have a need to improve as do they also.
I’ve been out of pocket most of the day so I need to play catch up…which is hard to do when we are having a road trip because the posts come fasts and furious.
Thanks for all the pictures, videos, background information, and commentary, allowing us to be a part of this historic trip.

Raul Castro’s grumpy grandpa routine (inattentiveness, peevishness and hard of hearing) reminds me of what PBO said in the Jerry Seinfield Comedians in Cars segment about the old world leaders who had been in power too long who found it hard to stand for long periods of time and who had to pee often.
Our little baby girl Sasha grew up💗and she is S T U N N I N G! Don't you feel like the Obama sisters are our little cousins?☺️ Sasha & Malia are so gorgeous! #SashaSLAY #SashaObama #MaliaObama #Obamas #FirstFamily #Babygirl #CelebrityNews #InstaglamNews #BarackObama #WhiteHouse #MichelleObama

The session was interesting. The young people were engaging and so eager to just get on with it. The world beyond their shores is wide and connected and they want to be apart of it, and when they are, everyone will be better for it. Time for old heads and old ideas, here and there, to get out of the way. PBO is the drum major and almost everyone is ready to be part of the parade.

I flipped it on and off a couple of times. The first time Chris Mathews was bragging up Kasich’s speech like he would be the best Prez ever! Sometimes I think Tweety is really a GOP operative. The next time I tried again Brian Williams was talking about how Trump connected with the crowd. Those were the only few seconds I turned MSNBC on as I was trying to see Cuba coverage, but could not stand the AIPAC hoopla.

Mr. Castro has been holding Pres Obama’s hands for at least 2X today. Now he’s raising POTUS’ hand? Wow!
That’s both the weirdest and best photo I’ve seen today!

Thanks si much, Nena!
Thank you for this NW. For your fabulous summaries! Wondering if we will see a full translation of Castro’s words today.
Nerdy you remain the best twitterer I know.

Yes. As a(n effective) journalist she certainly has!

OG, most of these Americans (journos, pols, etc) who are in the public eye, seem so unable to see themselves that it’s pathetic.
Excellent summary CEB.

Beauty break:
thanks for this, jer. love that dress!
Ohh dear. What’s your question?
Now I get it; this is a ‘different’ type of Town Hall.
Mr. Clueless would bankrupt the U.S. and shatter international relations.
Mr. Giant Ego doesn’t seem right in the head. Cannot ignore.

POTUS & Castro Presser
Not seeing anything about Trump’s speech at AIPAC except that he wants to pull out of NATO. Anyone hear anything else?
I haven’t, but I’d like to know if the group of Rabbis walked out, as was mentioned before the speech.
No one walked out. The crowd cheered all his insane BS. It is sickening. Really sickening.

PUT THE PRESSER IN CUBA ON MY FB…………………..
Great Q&A. President Obama came and is showing them how serious he is in assisting Cuba become a viable economic partner in the scheme of the World.
He makes me so proud!
He asks the right questions and makes timely comments.
