:star::) it’s always fun when you just pick up your device after being out and about, to have a new thread pop up!! And then to twin in with someone!!
I know that this one will be a more elegant affair than the Cuban dinner. The Communists always want to pretend in public that high style is decadent, while privately they live high on the hog.
There is some genuine friendship there. PBO mentioned reading a lot of Argentinian literature when he was a student and his friendship with the Pope. He seems to have a great affinity for Latin America.
Rubio wanted voters to give him the most important job in the world because he didn’t feel like doing his current one
By Jeb Lund
March 18, 2025
Better things were supposed to be in store for Marco Rubio. The people paid to tell you that couldn’t stop telling you.
He was young and good-looking and told inspiring stories that made the hairs stand on the backs of the necks of people who can be inspired by American conservatism. He stood a generation apart from Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, and he could deliver a new way forward, for the American people. He was the one candidate that the Beltway chattering classes knew the Democratic establishment most feared, and some Democrats agreed with them. He could make his voice warble when saying “America” emphatically…
The fatal streak running through the Rubio narrative was the same one that runs through so many conservative candidates. For someone bound by blood to the cult of the self-made entrepreneur as the only non-cop/soldier of any value as a citizen, Rubio merely spent two awkward belches in the private sector amid a career built on taxpayer dollars, donor largesse and patronage. He was a career politician and glad-hander calling out government cronyism with a sense of self-awareness so broken that he couldn’t weather the barest standards of his own ideology…
What the Rubio campaign needed everyone to forget was that — to anyone who doesn’t live off political news, to anyone not inured to the blocked toilet that is Florida politics — Marco Rubio sounded like either a moron or a crook.
I am so glad that Rubio and Jeb! got spanked and set to obscurity where they belong. Floridians were not served well by either of these mofos at any time. That Time Cover has been a curse for so many in many different positions.
AAAAAH THIS GIRL ENJOYS BEING A LITTLE UNDERDRESSED FOR THE EVENING…RETIRING TO MY FLANNELS AND A WONDERFULLY SPICED TEA! HAVE A BLESSED NIGHT EVERYONE!
The Maruricio’s daughter is so precious and was eager to talk to PBO. I also love how she wrapper her arms around her Papa to kiss him and then to kiss Michelle goodnight. She was in the audience when Michelle spoke to the girls group earlier in the day.
In fact, he told the Whitefish Review in December, “You know what? I used to say, every day, ‘I am so sick and tired of shaving.’ I had to shave every day, every day, for 33 years,” he explained. “And even before that when I was working on local TV. And I just thought, the first thing I will do when I am not on TV is stop shaving. And everybody hates it. My wife hates it. My son hates it,” he explains. “But it’s interesting. I’ve kind of developed a real creepy look with it that I’m sort of enjoying.”
He added, “I’ve kind of developed a real creepy look with it that I’m sort of enjoying. I can tell that people are off-put by it. And the more people implore me to shave, the stronger my resolve is to not shave.” LOL!
Letterman also explained that he wasn’t as emotional over retirement as he thought he would be.
“I thought I would have some trouble, some emotional trouble, or some feeling of displacement, but I realized, hey, that’s not my problem anymore. And I have felt much better,” he said. “It’s something for younger men and women to take on. So I haven’t missed it, the way I thought I might.”
Now, he spends most of his days with his son and enjoys a lot of fishing (all the while continuing to grow out his Santa Claus beard). Not such a bad life, eh?!
I can relate. After over 30 years of having the day measured out in bells, ringers, and time periods, the best thing about my retirement since July 2013, is that I no longer have to follow any set schedule. I can actually finish a cup of coffee while it is hot, stay up late and get up late, eat when I wish, and just stay at home refusing to answer the phone. My friends keep asking when will I begin travelling, but the truth of the matter is that I even find planning a trip just too much work. I am perfectly happy reading, catching up on shows ( I missed most of Downton Abbey) on Blu-ray, hanging out at all hours on TOD to watch events in real time, and doing little of anything. I have even let my hair grow out because I now have the time to fuss with it if I need to. More power to Dave!
OMG. He looks like the 80-sumthin dem. organizer that constantly prowls my neighborhood and will flat TALK YOUR EAR OFF! (God bless him, I’m so glad he does all that work.)
You know MO wants to get out there. The Mauricio’s seem like a fun couple and the Obamas appear to be really enjoying them. Come on compadres, let’s dance!
Yes, I just figured out you can go to 1:39:52 and the dancers are dancing. I’m guessing if I keep watching I’ll see POTUS & FLOTUS dancing too. Phew!
Well, how lucky for me…..I picked up the live streaming during the tango, and got to see President Obama and Michelle Obama dancing the tango! Wow. I cannot imagine another American president or president’s wife who could have done that!!!
Now I see another handsome first couple…..three in the Americas: The Obamas, the Trudeaus and the Macris.
I predict that tourism to Argentina will increase, especially with the trouble in Europe. And as soon as flights are regular, tourism will pick up in Cuba. The president and his wife are a two person stimulus package for the world. Beautiful. From what I’ve seen and read, Argentinians are very stylish and style conscious, and judging by their first lady, I’d have to agree.
Everything I’ve read/seen about Argentina supports what you say. Quite stylish and beautiful people.
The Macri’s daughter was adorable when she spoke to the President and First Lady after the toasts. She looked like she really didn’t want to be scuttled off to the children’s table. :(
Dudette, I’m glad you said that “sexiest man alive”. I was thinking this very thing just last week. He’s got everything- looks, charm, super intelligence, humor, good taste, …….the list goes on !!
Bring it, cuz, yes I’m oogling that married man and I just don’t care!
If she didn’t want us to look at him, she shouldn’t have brought him out! :-D
Thought this tweet of Mark’s was comical (standing alone, I still do), until I saw (unfortunately read) some of the comments. So I tweeted him back for the record:
@markknoller Was this necessary? It's comical if it's your friend, but the First Lady of the United States? I think you can do better.
President Barack Obama’s trip to Cuba this week was peppered with memorable moments.
Perhaps it was inevitable. Almost 90 years since the last US president visited the island, and certainly the first since Fidel Castro took power in 1959, it was always going to be historic.
There was high symbolism, such as the wreath-laying at the memorial for independence hero Jose Marti or the Star Spangled Banner playing in Revolution Square.
But for those of us who were here before the circus came to town, and will still be now it’s gone, a few other things stuck in the mind.
I’m not sure if “family diplomacy” is an actual academic term, but if it were, the Obamas in Havana would be the dictionary definition.
Family life is central to Cubans, and I think most people here appreciated the fact that Michelle Obama and the girls joined the president on this visit. He even brought the mother-in-law!
This was no cold and calculated diplomatic mission to an old enemy.
He seemed to genuinely want his daughters to experience history and to see Cuba for themselves. He joked about how as teenagers they didn’t like to join their parents on holiday any more, but that this was one trip they didn’t want to miss.
<3
MightyP!
;)
We rode in together, MP! Congrats for making it first!
Chips - Thanks so much for this post. Glad I entered back on the scene at just the right moment.
Hi, there!
Jacqueliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine!
Honey bunch!
:star: :) it’s always fun when you just pick up your device after being out and about, to have a new thread pop up!! And then to twin in with someone!!
Yes, it is, twin! :)
Congratulations to both of you!
Thanks, Judith!
Thanks a billion, BFF!
I know that this one will be a more elegant affair than the Cuban dinner. The Communists always want to pretend in public that high style is decadent, while privately they live high on the hog.
Ooooooo, both First Lady dresses were gorgeous! Love our FLOTUS’ lavender color.
Thanks Chips! You work fast! :-D
They look lovely, the women lovely. The men look handsome.
It’s cute that their dresses are similar in shape and this is the first First lady that is the same height as Michelle.
On the way to dinner.
Good Evening, Everyone ;)
thanks so much for the excellent coverage
Hey, the feed has started up again. They’re at the dinner table.
GE Dudette.
Sorceress Michelle!
Fascinating! fascinante!
Yes Yes YES!
Did you see those two guys who rushed to Michelle the moment PBO finished his toast?
Thx, Dudette. That was fun. Lots of affection there.
Wasn’t it lovely? POTUS says they’re coming back next year when they can stay longer. :-)
There is some genuine friendship there. PBO mentioned reading a lot of Argentinian literature when he was a student and his friendship with the Pope. He seems to have a great affinity for Latin America.
Just keep Mark (Hiking the Appalachian Trail) Sanford off the plane!

Dudette, I think the Time magazine cover depicting him as the “GOP savior” went to his head. :)
It must have.
I am so glad that Rubio and Jeb! got spanked and set to obscurity where they belong. Floridians were not served well by either of these mofos at any time. That Time Cover has been a curse for so many in many different positions.
Will they be dancing the tango tonight? Would love to see that!
OMG that would be AWESOME!
You know what? FLOTUS *is* wearing a “swingy” dress - good for cuttin’ a rug! đźś
… and Tango hair đź„
My favorite dress so far is the one Mrs. Obama wore on the plane when they arrived in Argentina. This one’s a close second!
Beautiful and fun!
LIVE NOW: President Obama attends state dinner in Buenos Aires, Argentina - http://www.cbsnews.com/liveFeed/widget.shtml
Thanks JER.
Much better feed (can hear PBO instead of the translator :) ).
Well. Isn’t THIS rich! What a certifiable nutbag. Evening all:)

Can’t wait to see a judge laugh that shit out of court.
seriously:) Deranged.
BEAUTIFUL EVENING…AND I LOVE THE MUSIC…HOPE THEY ENJOY EVERY MOMENT………………..
AAAAAH THIS GIRL ENJOYS BEING A LITTLE UNDERDRESSED FOR THE EVENING…RETIRING TO MY FLANNELS AND A WONDERFULLY SPICED TEA! HAVE A BLESSED NIGHT EVERYONE!
Thanks for all the updates and pictures of the First Couple’s trip to Argentina.
My husband just texted me and told me that he just saw a sign in TX that says, ” Ted Cruz. Born Near the USA” :) :) :)
The Maruricio’s daughter is so precious and was eager to talk to PBO. I also love how she wrapper her arms around her Papa to kiss him and then to kiss Michelle goodnight. She was in the audience when Michelle spoke to the girls group earlier in the day.
That was soooo sweet!
If it is, looks like he shoulda kept his night job.
He’s certainly, um, enjoying life :???:
That man is happy as a pig in slop. Judging by the paleness of his skin, I’d see he’s been indoors a lot. Time to get out and enjoy some sun.

Love it! He made a lot of people laugh every week he was on stage, and earned all this! Thanks for sharing.

Okay, let’s try this again! :-D :-D :-D
Immmmm……
i like it. He looks happy.
Has this been posted yet? Must see. NO COMPARISON!!!!
Trump makes me sick.
I’m with you on that. Of all the classless people running now or in the past, he’s the worst.
agreed. If I never hear his name, see his face….EVER! I would be so grateful…
Geeze….lifting lines from The American President….
OOOOOOoooooooooooo
You know MO wants to get out there. The Mauricio’s seem like a fun couple and the Obamas appear to be really enjoying them. Come on compadres, let’s dance!
Ugh! I have been getting the name twisted; Macri is the last name; my bad.
The only thing missing in my life is to see POTUS on a tango with Michelle.
Oh I so needed that- watching POTUS & FLOTUS dance was adorable :) gave me smiles.
Dangit!
did you miss it? I don’t know if that’s a video up top or if it was live, though.
Yes, I just figured out you can go to 1:39:52 and the dancers are dancing. I’m guessing if I keep watching I’ll see POTUS & FLOTUS dancing too. Phew!
whew indeed :) It was very cute to watch, enjoy, Dudette.
this is one of my favorite movie scenes…Tango from Scent of a Woman
Yep, I was just about to go look for this! Pacino!!!
that was such a great movie….but this is a great scene from the movie…a movie full of great scenes
Hoooah! :-)
Well, how lucky for me…..I picked up the live streaming during the tango, and got to see President Obama and Michelle Obama dancing the tango! Wow. I cannot imagine another American president or president’s wife who could have done that!!!

Gracias Chips ❤️
I know I can come to TOD and catch up on the day’s events
No way. Where is the video???????
OMG!!!!!
HONESTLY, he looks like he was born for this. So elegant, so suave! WOWOWOWOW.
Come on I love POTUS, but the tango wasn’t that good now.
Gurl, sit down!. The sexiest man alive is doing the sexiest dance on the planet and you’re gonna critique him? You trippin’!
hahahahahahaha…..
Dudette, I’m sitting down, sorry but he’s still my POTUS. :)
Of course he is! {{{{{ bella }}}}} LOL!
:)
Dudette, I’m glad you said that “sexiest man alive”. I was thinking this very thing just last week. He’s got everything- looks, charm, super intelligence, humor, good taste, …….the list goes on !!
… on and on til the break of dawn (and then some)! :-D
He did start off okay.
He gave it his best and he looked good trying. It’s a very difficult dance and I’ve seen a LOT worse by a mile.
I watch Dancing With the Stars, I know it’s a difficult dance. :)
Annieb, I <3 you. :D :D You made me laugh out loud. I agree with you (says the dance critic with the two left feet).
no it really wasn’t but it just doesn’t matter because we LOVE POTUS!
OMG…..lololol
OH EM GEE
I am going to sleep well. Ha ha!!!
Thank you Chips.
And, good evening TODVille.
I CAN’T BREATHE
Now, Paul Ryan and his minions have cause for IMPEACHMENT! Dancing in Argentina? Tango?? No way, no how, just impeachment.
OMG!!!!! This is everything!!!! I will be watching this forever. Valerie Jarret looked like should was about to pass out.
Indeed.
INORITE? VJ was like, “waitwut?………”
You know Valerie Jarret won’t let POTUS live this down.
O.k., so we’re all swooning, but you know Malia and Sasha would totally be thinking their Dad was being a dork :-)
i wonder what the Secret Service thought about that…OMG
Pffft! Kids! What do they know?
 100%!!!!
Now here’s a guy who knew how to wear a beard.
And he’s nice, too. LOLz.
THISSSSSS
That tweet’s hysterical! Never wanted to appeal an amendment more! Three terms, baby!
Naughty-mat time!
Bring it, cuz, yes I’m oogling that married man and I just don’t care!
If she didn’t want us to look at him, she shouldn’t have brought him out! :-D
A-hem! You did notice FLOTUS was dancing too, right?
:D :D
Yes, I noticed. She was lovely.
Although, I’m pretty sure JF didn’t call for the naughty mat cuz of anything said about FLOTUS. :-D
First, the wave at a ballgame with Castro, then a tango in Argentina? IMPEACH!
ROFL! You know heads are exploding! :-D
WHOA
I … Can’t … Breathe!!!
Girl, breath!
LOL! I’m trying! I’m trying! :-D
OMG.
That was just about the funniest thing I’ve seen!
PBO’s expressions are priceless (doesn’t know quite what to do???), and Michelle was so warm and gracious.
Grinning from ear-to-ear now.
Damn, what are we Obots gonna do on Jan 21, 2017? :(
Damn, what are we Obots gonna do on Jan 21, 2017? :(
I try not to think about it
Cry an ocean of tears!
Mark the comedian.
Thought this tweet of Mark’s was comical (standing alone, I still do), until I saw (unfortunately read) some of the comments. So I tweeted him back for the record:
JOBoomer, thank you for the warning. I won’t read any of the comments.
I try not to read them either!
That will be another thing the President and First Lady can scratch off of their Bucket List. :-)
Dontcha know? :-D
Que lo que paso con las chicas de POTUS?
PBO looked like “help me somebody” out there on the floor…..:-) Awesome !!

Make ya wanna say shoop-shoopeh-doop, shoopeh-doop, shoopeh-doopeh-doopeh-doop! :-D
FLOTUSSS says…hmmmmm i think we will have to learn the tango…smilin
