West Wing is still my all time favorite tv show. I watched the DVDs of the entire seasons twice and all the seasons on Netflix one time. I never saw it in real time as I was so busy working full time and mother of four. I think that show was responsible for my current interest in politics, besides Obama running for office and motivating and inspiring me.
President Obama has done a lot to strengthen relationships between Western Hemisphere countries. This is important, even though most Rethugs don’t have any idea that it is. He just has the whole world picture, which few if any other presidents have had. The Western Hemisphere has really been neglected by American administrations. We are so Eurocentric.
I know two people who definitely agree with your assessment: President Obama and me! (I just wanted to put myself in your/his court!) This is going to be so very important for the future.
I WOULD LOVE TO BE A MOUSE IN THE HOUSE AT THIS SUMMIT…INDEED WE MUST CONTINUE TO STRIVE FOR PEACE REGARDLESS OF THE UPHILL CLIMB. I LOVE SOUTH KOREA’S PRESIDENT PARK AND FEEL SO SORRY FOR HER LIVING NEXT TO MR. RESIDENT NORTHERN INSANITY!,,,,PRESS ON!

Allowing a 30-year-old Lifeline program which offers a monthly $9.25 subsidy to be applied to internet access (not just phone service) was approved because there are 3 Dems on the FCC Board (versus 2 GOP). Of course there was infighting and drama involved, not just an easy vote.
But good news because this is a priority of our President.
I may not count with the MSM but being engaged, empowered, hopeful and eternally grateful for this time with our President and his many partners in his administration is fantastic. I think people are crazy to spend their time dreaming up things to be hateful about and how to separate us from one another and make us turn on each other. I don’t want any part of that miserable, dead end mentality. Thanks to this site and all the smart and generous people that contribute to it for encouraging me in this positive direction.
So then: where’s all the seething anger that Donald Trump is supposedly harnessing? We hear about this endlessly on an anecdotal basis, even though the evidence suggests that Americans aren’t really all that angry at the moment. And we’re not talking about just one demographic group here. Trump draws support from men and women; from young and old; from rich and poor; and from all education levels.
Well: the white parts of those groups, anyway. Today I happened to run across a paper that measured each state by its level of racial animus. That got me curious: how would the scores compare with each state’s popular vote for Donald Trump? Answer: pretty well! Massachusetts is sort of an odd outlier, but the rest of the states form a pretty decent regression. I guess now we know what all those Trump voters are pissed off about.
Sending positive thoughts and prayers to amk and the people of India regarding the bridge/road collapse in an urban area. Many killed and missing; search and rescue still going on. Has anyone heard from him?
JER, can’t thank you enough for the link to the arrival of world leaders to #NSS16.
This may be the last NSS (begun by PBO, and probably will only continue if HRC is elected President in November). NSS began in DC in 2010, and were held every two years (Seoul and The Hague).
Fascinating to watch the progression of “attention,” ending with salute by the unarmed Marine greeters.
All leaders are being announced, both verbally and on screen. Seems like most leaders are arriving Chevys.
On Saturday just before Easter, we came upon a domestic violence situation behind our house in the alley… man choking woman. I went out and told him to stop, he just kept choking her, I called 911, then another neighbor began yelling at me to mind my own business, that it was ok, because the guy was choking his kid’s mom. Kid you not. Both he and the choker threatened me and my teen son.
All this happened with 911 on the phone. Guess what happened? 911 hung up on me.. and no police showed up. Later another young woman came and thanked me, but told me that the man - the choker, was now threatening to come and hurt me. Strange thing is that this exact scenario played out two yrs ago on Easter.. although the police showed up that time.
I’ve learned a hard lesson, from now on, I only call the police, if they can’t be bothered to show up, I don’t know what to say. But I won’t jeopardize my son anymore, or myself to help. It’s getting too dangerous. I really thought I’d love Baltimore, but I can’t stand the violence around here.
I love change, pf, but this neighborhood is really out of control with prostitutes walking around all day, guys openly selling heroin.. and assault, robberies and thefts everyday. It’s sad, because it could be so much better. DeRay’s campaign I think is going okay, he seems to be raising the money. I got an email that he’s having a meeting tomorrow night, but I can’t attend, though I’d like to. There was a debate between the candidates and far as I could tell he wasn’t invited. I did get polled the other night, I’m pretty sure it was for Catherine Pugh- she’s running second to Sheila Dixon. I told them that DeRay had my vote, that I think he’s best for the youth and I trust him on changing things w/ regard to the police. But frankly I think Sheila Dixon will win, which I think is a shame. But she seems to be the favorite.
yep, I really hope he sticks around and if he doesn’t make it this time around, gets involved in other ways.. so that more people get to know him. He could be very good for this city imo.
thank you. Frankly, the woman had been getting choked actually jumped in front of her ‘man’ to stop him from hitting me. So she was the brave one, really. Then I heard she went and made up with him, probably to keep him from coming after my son and I. But I have promised all 3 of my sons that I won’t do it anymore. It’s very hard to do nothing, but I know my actions could be dangerous to others.
OMG, I can’t imagine the horror that is surrounding you. You don’t deserve any of this, especially when you’re working for the betterment of this neighborhood. OMG.
Sheri, this is a terrible and stressful situation for you. Is there any chance you could move to a less violent place? I’m sure there are a lot of obstacles for you in doing this, but I’m concerned about your long term emotional health as well as your safety.
Me too concerned about my health. Thank you Jackie. Yes, we are working toward this. My son has two yrs of H.S. left and he does love his school - it’s in a different area. So by then I should have this house in decent enough condition (it was a fixer upper) to hopefully sell. But see, the problem is, it is very hard to sell here, the lady across the street has a very nice Victorian that has been on the market all winter.. and the rowhome next to her has been up for sale the entire 3 yrs that I’ve lived here. So.. we have to have a neighborhood that people want to live in, in order to sell. It’s a real catch-22.
thank you Dudette, I have promised my sons, so I have to control myself now. And they’re right, people are too unpredictable. Again, thank you so much

In other words, we really would like Obama for a third term (53%), but because of term-limits we’ll settle for Secretary Clinton who, among the current crop of 2016 candidates, is the closest we could come to what we currently have.
And I’ll just say F**K the MSM and their “The country is angry” FALSE narrative.
Madison, Wisconsin—Hillary Clinton delivered the strongest speech of her 2016 campaign in Wisconsin this week, and the media barely noticed.
In this absurd campaign season, when media outlets devote hours of time to arguments about which Republican candidate insulted which wife, about violent and irresponsible campaign aides, about whatever soap-opera scenario comes to mind, thoughtful discussions of issues get little attention. And deep and detailed discussions of issues get even less coverage.
Clinton’s speech on the importance of filling Supreme Court vacancies, and on the values and ideals that should guide judicial nominations, was a deep and detailed discussion of a fundamental responsibility of presidents. What she said impressed not just her own supporters, who gathered Monday to hear her speak on the University of Wisconsin campus, but also Wisconsinites who are undecided or inclined to vote for someone else in the state’s April 5 primary.
While I recognize that this torrential downpour of foreign policy deserves a thorough fact-check, this moment was notable to me because it proved that the White House should do more selling in the Kerry style—call it the fierce urgency of talking really urgently. Something else Kerry underscored for me: We in the press don’t pay attention to much of what’s going on in the world. Finally, and most crucially, this bravura performance proved to me that a genius creator such as Lin-Manuel Miranda should, at the very least, visit the State Department and hand Kerry a mic.

sherijr…I’m so sorry that you have to go through this again and again….so sad to hear this.
I’m livid because I can’t stand all the haters around this place and I literally let out a primal scream tonight in the car. Truly, the hate, intolerance and ignorance is wearing on me…. Today is Cesar Chavez Day…I had not known that today was a celebration for him and his accomplishments for human rights and workers rights…I’m proud to honor him on this day…apparently, this is just too much to bear for some angry, old white guys that frequent the library I tutor in. OMG. He was upset. Never heard of Cesar Chavez. Why can’t we have a day off to honor HIS white guy accomplishments? Why are we honoring some Mexican? How come 90% of the white population have to deal with this bs? I SCREAMED!! Honestly, I can barely contain myself anymore! There was one guy that came and agreed with me about the importance of honoring him…I had to leave…and scream. I think that we need them to die off….
Cesar Chavez is a great hero of mine, so I thank you sincerely for standing up for him and all he accomplished for so many in his lifetime. Honestly, I don’t know how people who love President Obama survive in red states. It’s just too much.
We survive in several ways: (red staters) First, we know we’re right in admiring President Obama. He has shown over and over in the last seven years the quality person he is. He has accomplished more than any previous president. Second, we find others who feel like we do, and share our admiration and reinforce each other. Third, we know that “love will overcome hate” and we will win in the long run. We have learned to look at the long picture, just like PBO. So, we don’t just survive, we thrive, and are proud to be what we are. (I do know, however, the primal urge to scream sometimes! The stupidity stuns.)
Carolyn, these are words of wisdom. It’s especially important to find like-minded people that we can talk to freely. Yes, carolyn…you have this down, as I do. It just hurts my heart…and I find it very difficult to smile sometimes after these run ins….I NEVER keep my mouth shut, so I do get satisfaction from doing what’s right…
One of the things I hate about Donald Trump’s campaign, and really back to 2008 with Sarah Palin, is the atmosphere created that outright racism is okay. The anonymity of Internet sites encourage vitriol too. What I think is that the haters are just so loud.. that that is who we ultimately hear. Most people, I believe, like President Obama says, are good. They feel as we do- but they don’t say it always. Growing up in CA in the 60’s, Cesar Chavez was already a hero to us.. and this was white folks living in Orange County of all places. And when we moved to Northern CA - to the Stockton Tracy area, same thing, he had a lot of respect from folks. I firmly believe that MSM’s style guide requires MSM to ignore the fact that the “revenge” Trump supporters seek is driven by racial animus.

Obama: The Musical, Starring John Kerry

Kerry, I should point out, is 72 years old.
