Love the local coverage of PBOās historic trip to Vietnam and Japan.
JER posted tweets from @itn_vn when he first arrived in Hanoi and have been viewing their tweets since then.
This one in particular really touched me, PBO looks absolutely *joyous* as he debarks in the city known during the Vietnam era as “Saigon;” couldnāt help but be struck by the contrast from 41 years ago, which Iām sure it did for our Vietnam vets here, Yardarm, Dr. Bob, and no doubt many others….

Hi Dudette, this was a turbulent time in my formative years.
I was too young to understand what was happening. Lightbulbs went off for me when MLK and then Bobby Kennedy were murdered. Then I started seeing the inescapable ugliness of the real world.
I HATE THIS WORLD…WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED HERE WITH PBO IN THE WH..AND HE IS TOO GOOD FOR IT!..IT IS AN UGLY..GREEDFUL…SELF CONSUMED PLACE AND I HAVE TO WORK EXTRA HARD TO GRIN AND BEAR IT IN FRONT OF THESE PLASTIC PEOPLE!
I have so much respect for the people who bravely stepped up to the ugliness and violence.
THE FREEDOM RIDES WILL INDEED CONTINUE!

Gave me a chance to post a photo of one of my few freesias which (finally) bloomed. The little Asian curio is 3.5 inches tall and is on the right of the photo nestled amid the sweet alyssums in the freesia pot. Donāt know if itās Thai or not, and think itās actually a lion (?), not a dragon, but itās a similar color to the gift from the Vietnam PM, and purchased it $1.50 at Goodwill.

As we get closer to June 17th I keep praying that POTUS and FLOTUS will be in town when we visit. Although I also find it hard to disagree with any of the trips he has taken in his “lame duck” period.

PBO said he has a lot of meetings with government officials (lots of grey hair in the room, like himš ), so thatās why he enjoys engaging with young people so much — gives him hope about the future.
Said his life was shaped by the Asia region, that his sister was born in Jakarta, thatās why he loves the food.
Also talked about selfies (in the gym this morning, people trying to take selfies with him [!] ).

Good answer from PBO about how he was able to switch from being not serious to becoming focused on improving society from a filmmaker.
PBO referred to Dreams From My Father, that he rebelled because his father wasnāt around, but then he realized that he wanted to help people, improve society.
