I am so sorry to hear that you have lost your mom. I am and will be sending you love and all of the healing light that I can call on to help comfort you during this painful time.
I lost my Dad 23 years ago. I remember like it was yesterday the aching feeling that, if I called his telephone number, no one would be there to answer. Only time heals. I have not forgotten him. I still think of him often. But, instead of an aching loss, my thoughts of him are now a comforting reminder that I am not alone. I talk to him often, but now it is within my heart. I can absolutely feel his presence and awareness beyond the veil. This did not happen overnight, but sooner than I expected after his death and this beautiful and enduring connection has only deepened and grown.
In my vocation, many people have confided in me their experiences of life after death of loved ones in detail. In fact, so many have done so that I am absolutely convinced that nothing is lost, that the spirit and soul live on past what we can see in our earthly existence. My own experiences also confirm this for me. Knowing that life continues, does not make the pain of loss from earthy life go away, but, I am hoping that me sharing this makes this loss just a bit easier for you.
Know that we all love you here, Chips, though most of us have never met you physically, you are in our hearts. Here’s hoping that the love and appreciation from all of us will comfort, strengthen and uplift you now and in days to come.

I would like to dedicate the words in this old soulful song to Chips and her family.
When my mother passed away in our home under hospice care (as she wanted), I had to wait for the funeral home to come to the house. As they were leaving, with the hospice nurse standing by, I asked if I could repeat something from this song to them, before they left and said it from memory:
“I said to the undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For this lady you are carrying
Lord I hate to see her go”
And, since I’m part Irish (and part Irish story teller), and on reflection always see humor in tragedy, I think Chips would understand if I told her you should have seen the looks on their very purposefully somber looking faces! They thought I must be losing it (I wasn’t), and they could not wait to depart!
JO’B, I sang that spiritual over and over and over and over (only in a more mournful way) in the days after my grandma passed away! A big part of my mournfulness was that I was abroad and hadn’t seen her in ages before her death. My grandma was my *mother* (my mother was like my dad) when I was growing up. If mother said I couldn’t go somewhere and grandma said I could, off I went. I always could talk to her more than to my mom; you’ve probably heard me say here more than once, “My grandmother always said….” Our loved ones never really leave us, I guess.
Thank you so very much for sharing that, VC, especially about your grandmother. I have a close friend who always talks in a similar way about the closeness she shared with hers, as did I, with mine. I honestly can say that I never heard my grandmother ever say a negative word about anybody! Used to try to emulate that trait, but … (pray for me) …

Like everyone else on this blog my love and prayers are with you.
Upon my husband’s unexpected early death I thought I could not go on, but over time I learned his love was still with me only in a different way. The love of those around me gave me strength. It was still enormously hard, but became more easily endured over time. I learned to spend time with the ones I loved as life is short. I know just from frequently being on this blog that you spent a lot of time with your Mom and you were extremely helpful to her.
When my Dad then my Mom died I had spent as much time with them as possible. I am so very glad of that as it helps give me peace. I miss them dearly and think of them daily. The memories I have of my life with my parents and husband give me pleasure and help direct my life. I pray you will find this peace in your Mom’s continued eternal love.

Chips, I returned late to hear this tragic news. There are no words that any of us can say that will heal your heart right now or ease the deep sense of loneliness you feel. When both of your parents are gone, you feel like an orphan at any age and that’s how I felt when my mother died so many decades after my father. The ache stays with you, but so do the sweet memories that will come to you at unexpected times-when you’re out on a walk or preparing a meal, or just watching the sunset. I hope that the prayers and love we send to you will in some small measure help you through these difficult days. We didn’t know your mom personally, but she raised a daughter with a kind and loving heart and that as well as all your family will be her great legacy to the world. Bless you and you family.

Dear Chips…..the loss of a parent leaves a deep hole in the heart. Always remember you carry your mother with you, not just her essence but her DNA that will live on in you and all her decedents. I too was by my mother’s side when she passed 17 years ago. At that time someone told me that the loss of a mother is a universal loss. After all these years, I have found that to be true. I think that we all feel a bit of that loss and weep for you.
