These victories are fragile, unless we remember where our vulnerabilities are!
You tell them, JO’B. Yes we can and yes we will!
Just imagine what can happen with a 5-4 court.
Make it happen, murkans.
Congratulations, Don! Finally, the broken Supreme Court is able to do the right thing. You’d think Roe v. Wade hadn’t happened half a century before the way so-called “right-to-lifers” act like abortion rights are a personal affront to them. If they actually cared about protecting life, they would get on board with stricter legislation to reduce gun violence, the REAL: menace to our public health!
Awesome, awesome, awesome.
‘strict law’ ??? fuck you, bbc.
I am so thrilled with this decision! I am so old, I was a teenager in the 50s and I remember the awful abortion is illegal days! This decision will not increase the overall number of abortions, but it will save women’s lives.
Carolyn, you and I are of the same era. The so-called “golden age” in the US was a dark and ugly time for women who needed or wanted to end a pregnancy. Not only was abortion against the law, it was a dangerous and sometimes fatal procedure.

Former deputy PM Nick Clegg pays tribute to the PM’s civility and good humour and ability to see others’ point of view.
But he argues that it cannot be right “that only members of the Conservative Party” should choose a new prime minsiter and calls for an early general election.
“All parties have their rules for electing leaders,” David Cameron tells him, and points out that the Fixed Term Parliaments Act was passed by the Conservative-Lib Dem coalition.
It will be up to the next Conservative leader to choose whether there is an early election, he adds.

g’nite TOD - sending fondest thoughts to Ms Chips.
It seems the US is having a good day - I feel so sad that the Brits have shot themselves in the foot and are heading in the opposite direction to all that is good in our world. Just too sad.
Perhaps another day they can rethink their options.
On a personal note - some not so good events happening in my world (nothing life threatening or to loved ones) - just life issues that are causing some grief - it was nice to hear all good things from President Obama’s country - a different view is good for the soul.
Good night, 99ts. I hope your worries soon vanish. And thank you for being a part of this place. Always good to see you. {{{{99ts}}}}

{{99ts}},I hope things get better.
ty so much
UGH UGH UGH, I wish she wouldn’t do this. It’s clear she’s pandering but it annoys me no end.
Me too, I try to turn a blind eye when she says things like this. I’m barely getting over the fact that she might disagree with President Obama on certain things, and I know I’m being silly to think that she should follow whatever President Obama has done. Hillary is a strong and capable leader so I’ll just have to hope that she knows what she is doing.
I guess what irks me the most is that PBO and his team spent 6 painstaking years drawing up the TPP. These agreements are not going to be renegotiated. How long will it take to write a new trade agreement? And by not standing by its sweeping relevance and importance, she is saying she will go with the status quo, letting China step in ahead of us. This is unacceptable!
Meta, you are so right, and I wish the Senate takes it up before they leave because if they don’t we will be stuck with the present trade situation for the foreseeable future.
President Obama doesn’t do bad trade deals, and Clinton should know better! The lefty purists always have to have some axe to grind, and this had replaced Keystone. Grrr
And she should know that 12 nations are not going to renegotiate in quick fashion whatever nitpick she has with it. And if EW if her VP pick, I can’t imagine what would happen. EW practically called PBO a liar over TPP. GRRRRRRR.
I really don’t understand the anti-abortion group, I just don’t get them trying to impose their will on a woman that for whatever reason chooses a different path. The decision that a woman makes is her business, how can someone think that they have the right to try and dictate to a woman what her decision should be? There is no greater decision that a woman can make, I just don’t understand where people get off trying to add their two cents when their two cents wasn’t even asked for in the first place. Maybe I’m being naïve or whatever, but I just know that a decision like that is the woman’s decision.
It’s all about shame and control…while (at least in the case of men) exonerating themselves from any responsibility. Last I checked, men ARE involved in getting a woman pregnant in the first place….
Yes they are involved, but it has been known to have happened that a woman can get pregnant without a man’s help. Well at least that’s what I read somewhere.
Immaculate conception? You read that in an old book somewhere….
Yes, I think that’s what it was. though I do confuse the “Immaculate conception” with the “Immaculate reception” which was when Franco Harris caught a football that wasn’t intended for someone else and ran it in for a touchdown to beat the Dallas Cowboys. Well I think it was Dallas Cowboys. And speaking about the Dallas Cowboys, I hope they go winless this year. I don’t hate the Cowboys, its just that their losing brings me joy.
jesus h christ.

Does anyone else, like me, need a drink? My emotions have been all over the place for the last few days. Extreme happiness at the SCOTUS decision re abortion, awe over the 2 over-the-top items from the BET, sadness for Chips (and the feelings all your beautiful comments brought up for me about the passing of my mother 10 years ago), the fear for the good people of GB who have been hoodwinked, and anger at those who did the hoodwinking, and puzzlement over the huge number who didn’t know what they were voting for, which raised fears about probably how totally uninformed our own voters are, which makes me scared about November, and angry and confused over how best to educate as many voters as possible of the truth about DT and the Repubs before then. And that’s just from the past 4 days. Heck, one drink will no where near cut it for me. I need a whole bottle!
And before I get too drunk and forget my manners, GM, GA, and GE to all you lovely people, and congrats on all the winners for the last several days. Thank you to NW, amk and others who have kept this place going in Chips’ absence. I love this place and all of you, and, no, I have not yet started drinking. Those there are sober words.

If this is true, the people who hid information from The Supreme Court should go to prison for a long time. NBC News:
[A}mong the reams of evidence presented to the high court and the public debate in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, something is still missing: A full, official account of the initial impact of the law on Texas women.
A state employee with knowledge of the annual data Texas collects on abortion spoke to NBC News and is accusing state officials overseeing the Department of Health Services of intentionally blocking the information and instructing staff members to mislead people who ask for it. Because fact-finding traditionally ends after such a case goes to trial, long before it reaches the Supreme Court, the justices may or may not have considered it. But in the court of public opinion, the data could potentially undermine Texas’ official argument that its requirements pose no particular burden on women.
Like every one with a conscience, the ACLU is not amused:
In a June 15 letter, the ACLU of Texas, which first referred the state employee to NBC News, wrote, “Rather than responding honestly and claiming a legal basis for withholding the 2014 statistical tables, it appears that your agency has chosen to hide the truth.” The letter continued, referring to Texas’ state public records law, “Lying in response to Public Information Act requests would subvert the purpose of the Act, whether or not there is an arguable legal basis for withholding information.”
The information could also potentially undermine Texas’ rationale for the law, which is that it makes women safer.
AH…Mrs Greenspan….Opened your mouth and took away all doubt

I worry about EW being a possible VP pick, but do love her. I am thinking how badly she is needed to be the Dems Lion of the Senate. I am thinking if a MA Senate replacement is picked by a GOP Gov what problems that would create. I am thinking having one woman on the ticket might be doable in a Country that has never had a woman President, but two might be a wish too far.
I also see the other side. Why not? EW is an able charismatic candidate for VP. Hillary might only run for one term given her age putting EW in position with the experience to run for POTUS the next time around.
I was supporting the TPP and had other Obama led policies I wanted continued, but need to look at the bigger picture.
Love this guy.
Thank you JER. I hope to see more pictures.

John Kerry is making remarks in London - CNN is covering it now.
Dear Sir/ Ma’am,
Greetings from Colliers International!
European Referendum - A buying opportunity for international investors
The result of the European Referendum has been called and it’s been confirmed that the UK will be exiting the EU.
The fall in the value of pound presents a significant opportunity to overseas property purchasers, including Indian investors. The buying opportunities will be ripe for Asian investors as they will benefit from currency gains as the pound strengthens over time. This also creates an excellent opportunity for our international buyers to benefit from currency gains as the pound strengthens over time. However, in context of the economy and the housing market, a Brexit does not change UK’s fundamentals. They are traditionally underpinned by the following, all of which are beneficial to investors:
A significant lack of supply in the housing market which must be addressed. It makes little sense that UK buyers will not want to own their own home and/or a buy-to-let investment in the country which they live in because it is no longer a member of the EU
The UK is still the EU’s largest customer, and a devaluation in sterling is likely to boost demand for UK exports as they become cheaper
The UK is the fifth largest economy globally, putting it in a strong position when negotiating trade deals with both EU countries and elsewhere after a Brexit
Value of Sterling-International buyers have the added advantage of purchasing in a safe haven market at a time when they can make considerable gains through a weakening currency
Eventually, from our perspective, the result represents a good buying opportunity for smart money (Particularly for international investors). As in any investment market, a period of uncertainty creates clear opportunities to make gains for savvy buyers
Best wishes

Unfreakinbelievable! It’s just amazing to watch venerable old UK meltdown before our eyes. I can see why you think QE will step in. She may be the only one who can get them to snap out of it.
Ironically, at this point, she is the only one who could possibly save the ‘union’ since, as you say, the ‘establishment’ is running around like headless chickens. Her racist pos hubby? not so much.
You couldn’t script how bad this mess is.
