I and I Alone: Donald Trump’s Campaign and the Arrogance of White Privilege

    Trevor LaFauci
    August 28, 2025

Campaigns are a reflection of their candidate.

With the current 2016 presidential election cycle, we’ve seen this time and time again. Whether it was Bernie Sanders and his campaign’s increasing negativity once it became apparent he wouldn’t be the Democratic nominee or Ted Cruz and his campaign’s willingly getting down in the gutter against his Republican opponents, we’ve seen multiple campaigns take on the true personality of their candidate once those campaigns faced adversity. With both the Sanders and Cruz campaigns, this increased negativity came at a time where they were being beaten on the policy side by their opponents so they felt they had no choice but to lob baseless attacks as a last-ditch Hail Mary effort. Not only did these efforts fail, but the general public was left with a lasting impression of two bitter, defeated candidates who would go on to become a simple footnote in the annals of presidential campaign history.

The current contrast between Hillary Clinton’s and Donald Trump’s campaigns can be simply explained by the candidates themselves. For Hillary Clinton, she has truly learned the lessons of 2008 and have applied those lessons to her 2016 campaign. She has surrounded herself with young, talented advisors and campaign staff. She has prioritized the swing states, fully staffing those states beginning in April with hundreds of field organizers and has already gone ahead with a full ad blitz nearly five months before the election. At the same time, she has not written off any states and has numerous staff in the suddenly competitive states such as Georgia, Arizona, Missouri, North Carolina, and Utah. All of these efforts in conjunction with a 50-state strategy has made the Clinton campaign a reflection of the candidate: a methodical, detailed, and driven enterprise geared at not only winning the White House but also flipping control of the Senate and making significant gains in the House as well.

Compare all this to The Donald.

“Compare all this to The Donald.” And I ask why? Why bother, when you have seen the best? Why pollute my brain with images of incompetency, idiotness, disgusting bull crap and more? I will stick with the 2 paragraphs you gave us, rikyrah. especially the second one.

And congrats on being numero uno.

What makes me mad and ready not to watch this season of DWTS is that Ryan Lochte will be a contestant on the show. To me that is rewarding him for his terrible behavior in Brazil while representing his country. Even though I have watched all the previous seasons I will not watch this season.

Desertflower posted this tweet on the last thread. The linked news item says the following

LePage also apologized repeatedly to Rep. Drew Gattine and his family for leaving a threatening voicemail last week…
“When I was called a racist I just lost it, and there’s no excuse,” the governor said. “It’s unacceptable. It’s totally my fault.”

A Governor “just lost it”. He attacked someone within his own state & it probably doesn’t have national/international repercussions. This is exactly the type of behaviour I expect could come from Trump. Imagine if he started name calling world leaders on twitter.

Mornin’, TOD! Here’s my contribution, if Trump maintains his schedule for Saturday … I’m so annoyed by his self-declared (for others) “pandering” that I thought I’d get this out of my system!

    ***

Everyone thought Trump’s soul was dead
We’ll invite him here, the Detroit Pastor said
But, lo, as Trump spoke to the black church
Behold, his lying tongue began to lurch
And every member of the congregation bowed their head.

Now, you can dislike Clinton’s speech. You can fact-check it, and perhaps find something wrong—although to my knowledge nobody claimed any inaccuracy. But what you really shouldn’t do, if you are a journalist of any kind of conscience or capacity, is act as though Clinton had somehow gotten down in the gutter with Trump—merely by describing what Trump is doing.

Yet that’s the kind of coverage we got. Some commenters got it right, but the reporters and editors charged with “objectivity” immediately equated Clinton’s clear-eyed exegesis of Trump’s racially divisive campaign with Trump’s calling her a “bigot.” The Washington Post headlined its story: “Clinton, Trump exchange racially charged accusations.” Bloomberg went with “Trump and Clinton trade charges of racism.”

Good morning, once again. Back home; scheduling snafu — they wrote the wrong date on their schedule (I don’t do Wednesdays…); rather than wait an extra two hours while they contacted my doc for a prescription re-write and prepare all on the paper work, I had them reschedule me for Thursday. Actually works better for me as FedEx dropped to tax packages as I was leaving my home…

Off to grab lunch, then crunch numbers… Read you later…

I had posted an article earlier in the month about UnitedHealth’s problems being self-inflicted. Other companies are trying to increase their leverage by creating worries about the availability of insurance going forward.

So are these insurance companies *really* losing money, is it a matter of paying the ridiculously high salaries/bonuses for their top level /executive employees?

    • 52 0388jojothecat
      August 30, 2025 at 12:53 pm

When the law changes and you don’t change your business model, continue paying these ridiculous salaries for a bunch of greedy whiners, you are gonna lose money. When you can’t through people who are sick off their insurance and can’t deny people coverage due to “pre-existing conditions”, but continue to pay these losers high salaries because you want a monopoly on healthcare, you are going to bleed profits.

I’ve wondered what AA’s (or any POC and groups that Trump has offended) would support DT. Then I heard “Pastor” Burns’ rant and saw this tweet and got (at least in part) my answer.

I wasn’t born in Africa, so “returning” is not an option for me. But if he thinks it’s a good idea, he should set the example and lead the way.

These are probably the same A-holes that sold their souls to get their church members to vote for GWB. Many of these so-called “black” pastors in the south got lots of money from the Bush administration and looking for the same from Trump.

Medicare Part D prescription drug spending rose 17 percent between 2013 and 2014, with about 200 drug prices rising by more than 50 percent in that time period. The number of claims—each time someone fills or refills a prescription—increased by 3 percent, topping more than 1.4 billion claims in 2014.

Six of the top 10 most costly drugs in 2014 had double-digit increases in the cost per individual claim.

Name-brand medications weren’t the only ones to increase in cost. Generic drugs, which can sometimes have only one U.S. manufacturer, also rose in price.

The rule proposed on Monday would make some changes that have been sought by insurers to an ObamaCare program called risk adjustment, which redistributes money from insurers with healthier enrollees to those with sicker, costlier ones.

The rule proposes to make the formula more accurate by using prescription drug data as a source of information about enrollees’ health.

The proposal also includes new protections for insurers with extremely high-cost enrollees. Costs above $2 million for any one individual would be shared among insurers.
