Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton moved to muzzle a former state regulator who says he was ordered in 2010 to drop a fraud investigation into Trump University for political reasons.
Owens, now retired, said his team had built a solid case against the now-presumptive Republican presidential nominee, but was told to drop it after Trumpâs company agreed to cease operations in Texas.
“It had to be political in my mind because Donald Trump was treated differently than any other similarly situated scam artist in the 16 years I was at the consumer protection office,” said Owens, who lives in Houston.
Owensâ boss at the time was then-Attorney General Greg Abbott, who is now the stateâs GOP governor.
The Associated Press first reported Thursday that ***Trump gave donations totaling $35,000 to Abbottâs gubernatorial campaign*** three years after his office closed the Trump U case. Several Texas media outlets then reported Owensâ accusation that the probe was dropped for political reasons.

China ratifies Paris climate agreement.
Chinaâs top legislature has ratified the Paris global climate agreement, state news agency Xinhua reports.
The country is the worldâs largest emitter of harmful CO2 emissions, which cause climate change.
China and the US were expected to announce ratification jointly before or at the weekendâs G20 Hangzhou summit.
In a landmark deal struck in December, countries agreed to cut emissions enough to keep the global average rise in temperatures below 2C.

Why is it that police officers canât understand, or refuse to understand the other side? What I mean is no one want to see police officers gun down, we have compassion for those who are gun down. Why is it the police officers refuse to show any compassion for these black people who are gun down by police officers? Try to understand were we are coming from. I could be wrong, but it seem to me they donât care or they feel they didnât do anything wrong. In either case. Kaepernick is not against police officers, he is not against veterans, or the flag, he is against the injustice black folks still suffer under that flag.
