Congrats to the first place twins and to NASA for being awesome. Saw Hidden Figures this weekend after buying another set of John Lewisā March graphic novels. Huge Portland Save our ACA healthcare rally with both of our Senators, three of our Reps, and numerous state officials. Packed room and overflow in the parking lot stomped and yelled for over an hour. Four of us OFA leaders on the stage with the leaders for the livestream & speeches. OFA is gathering steam and new recruits by the day. President Obama needs us now and forever!

Iām with you! My friend and I are going to see a movie. Another friend said her book club is meeting that day. At the last meeting they were talking about how excited they were in ā08 and ā12, all smiles and pride and happy tears. They decided (since they are meeting on Friday) that they will all dress in black and not watch or mention the dreadful event, but just stick to the book. It feels like a moment of doom to me and every time I read something that says “This will be President Obamaās last….something-or-other” a cold hand squeezes my heart. I just cannot force my brain to accept this reality. I think for the next four years I will just want President Obamaās speeches, read articles about his travels, and watch all the darling videos. This is still truly unthinkable.

He was at the rally near me today, along with Gary Peters, Debbie Stabenow, Bernie Sanders š , and our Democratic Representatives, union leaders,etc. I could not go but my friend went and said there was a good turnout and some inspiring speakers.
Just started watching my tape of 60 Minutes. Heard PBO say the first thing he was going to do was NOT set his alarm clock. That is exactly my favorite thing about retirement too. On my recent twenty day trip to Europe there were a couple days when there was no need to worry about getting up early so I did not set my alarm clock so I could just wake up naturally. However I was rooming with my Sister-in-Law and I found out she always sets her alarm clock even though she is retired too. I had no idea that anyone that had no reason would set their alarm clock to get up early.
My favorite thing also. I even schedule my appointments between 10 am (avoid getting up early) and 2 pm (avoid traffic jams). Hardest thing since the fire are the days I need to get up early to meet with the restoration crew…
Iām the same way - love getting up naturally. But I have to watch when I go to sleep - too late and Iāll sleep until noon! I have been taking a melatonin pill every night and I did buy a Phillips natural wake up clock. It starts to turn up the light very gradually starting half an hour before the time the alarm is set. It doesnāt even feel like an alarm to me and I could never have used it while teaching. I need a couple of really obnoxious and loud alarms to get me up then!

I didnāt care then and I donāt care now. Because what he means to the chattering class has absolutely nothing to do with what he means to us. He inspired us to think, to feel, to act. That is plenty enough for me.
I was even annoyed when the pundits use the terminology “legacy” as if that in itself is all Obama cares about, going down in the history books. They missed the point with him since his motives are and have always been helping the people. He could care less if he gets the credit for it and has said so many times. That is very different from most peopleās thinking so it just does not register with the pundits, the GOP, or most of those used to wanting physical rewards for themselves for their actions.
I had planned to retire the photos of Obama and family from the living area to my art room upon the end of his last term, plus put away the special hope candle I bought when he was first elected. Now I realize I need hope more now than ever and seeing his familyās faces will remind me there are people out there that care and are genuinely concerned about our safety, health and our Democracy. They will stay where they are not be moved.

Reading this the line from a Hamilton song, “I wrote my way out,” kept playing over and over in the background of my thoughts. As a former Language Arts teacher and life-long bibliophile, I just love, love, love that out president has such a great love for writing and reading. I kept a photo that showed a close-up of his hand as he was editing a speech on the wall in my classroom to be an example to my students. PBO is truly a man for all seasons. Ignorant people have always hated and tried to destroy those who are intellectually gifted because they feel inferior; they try to destroy smart people because they know that they cannot be fooled by their tricks and lies and may be able to help others to do so as well. A entire generation was taught that the one thing that he racists could not take from us was what we knew. Even though most of our parents did not get beyond a high school education, they encouraged us and made it possible for us to go to college/university and to successful while we were there. While in some ways it felt unfair, we knew that we were carrying the weight of the hope and dreams of our families, churches, and neighborhoods. We were serious students who fulfilled their dreams and ours. My class produced, Doctors, Pharmacists, Dentists, social workers, teachers, business people, and elected officials. Most of us came from large families (6 kids in mine) and lived in 3 bedroom homes that had one small bathroom. We did homework on the kitchen table seen over by parents who often tested us on what we did (my mother was strict). I grew up with many people who had gifts like those of PBO and MO, indeed, I am one of them. PBO has given so many of us, from many walks of life, an example that we can use to encourage the young people around us. I have faith in them just as PBO does. What begins this week is not something that will have the type of long-lasting influence that which came before.
I wish and pray that on 1/20/17, we wake up to the news that there are NO prisoners in Guantanamo. This way, the Rethugs can keep it open for the immediate incarceration of members of the Jackass Administration. And there will be plenty of those.

At the end of this week, we will be saying goodbye to the classiest, most down-to-earth president we have had in many years. President Obama and his family are the first First Family since the Camelot years of the early 1960s to make us proud of our choice in leadership. He has been accused of siding with the Russian dictator over the United States and he has often sided with Vladimir Putin over the actual patriots who put their lives on the line to get us the intelligence we need to keep our country safe. Donny cannot handle anyone saying anything negative about him and he canāt let anything bounce off him without responding. According to most accounts, he hates computers (āthe cyberā), but he has discovered Twitter and cannot allow any slight against him to go without a response. He has embarrassed the United States repeatedly and he hasnāt even taken office yet. Heās a dumbass to the highest order and everyone who supported him, whether they voted for him, or they supported him by not voting for Hillary Clinton, is also a dumbass of the highest order. My first degree is in psychology with an emphasis in cognitive science and natural language processing, so Iāve studied a lot about cognition. Trump cannot process information in any orderly way. John Lewis, failed to mention or show any of the tweeted photos that residents of Rep. Lewisā district sent out that gave the lie to DOās characterization, and referred to him as” Mr. Lewis” rather than Rep. John Lewis. No mention was made of the support of Minority Leader Nancy Peloisi or others. Uniformed readers, especially White ones, will come away with thinking that this situation is not as important and wide-spread as it is.
Oppressed people are mostly just trying to survive. Whenever there has been a brief time and place of prosperity for a relatively small group, the backlash has been so great (think of the Black Townships in Tennessee and Florida that were destroy whites, the aftermath of reconstruction, and Jim Crow after Black soldiers who returned from WWI, etc) because they are so fearful that the oppressed will become the oppressors. White people have to talk to the only people that they respect; other white people to come to an understanding of the absolute need for truth and reconciliation if this country is to grow up and be a truly great nation. I had no idea that anyone that had no reason would set their alarm clock to get up early.
My favorite thing also. I even schedule my appointments between 10 am (avoid getting up early) and 2 pm (avoid traffic jams). Hardest thing since the fire are the days I need to get up early to meet with the restoration crew…
Iām the same way - love getting up naturally. But I have to watch when I go to sleep - too late and Iāll sleep until noon! I have been taking a melatonin pill every night and I did buy a Phillips natural wake up clock. It starts to turn up the light very gradually starting half an hour before the time the alarm is set. It doesnāt even feel like an alarm to me and I could never have used it while teaching. I need a couple of really obnoxious and loud alarms to get me up then!
People who are retired but still set their alarms in the morning … uh … scare me. š

Iām growing tired of every last bozo and his brother telling us about the legacy of President Barack Hussein Obama.
I donāt need any of them to tell me what he stood for, what he got accomplished, all that he meant to so very many, what I just witnessed.
I really donāt need it. Over these last 10 years, I stopped listening to what the pundits and hangers-on and profiteers had to say about his every move or word or thought. I didnāt care then and I donāt care now. Because what he means to the chattering class has absolutely nothing to do with what he means to us. He inspired us to think, to feel, to act. That is plenty enough for me.
I was even annoyed when the pundits use the terminology “legacy” as if that in itself is all Obama cares about, going down in the history books. They missed the point with him since his motives are and have always been helping the people. He could care less if he gets the credit for it and has said so many times. That is very different from most peopleās thinking so it just does not register with the pundits, the GOP, or most of those used to wanting physical rewards for themselves for their actions.
I had planned to retire the photos of Obama and family from the living area to my art room upon the end of his last term, plus put away the special hope candle I bought when he was first elected. Now I realize I need hope more now than ever and seeing his familyās faces will remind me there are people out there that care and are genuinely concerned about our safety, health and our Democracy. They will stay where they are not be moved.

Reading this the line from a Hamilton song, “I wrote my way out,” kept playing over and over in the background of my thoughts. As a former Language Arts teacher and life-long bibliophile, I just love, love, love that out president has such a great love for writing and reading. I kept a photo that showed a close-up of his hand as he was editing a speech on the wall in my classroom to be an example to my students. PBO is truly a man for all seasons. Ignorant people have always hated and tried to destroy those who are intellectually gifted because they feel inferior; they try to destroy smart people because they know that they cannot be fooled by their tricks and lies and may be able to help others to do so as well. A entire generation was taught that the one thing that he racists could not take from us was what we knew. Even though most of our parents did not get beyond a high school education, they encouraged us and made it possible for us to go to college/university and to successful while we were there. While in some ways it felt unfair, we knew that we were carrying the weight of the hope and dreams of our families, churches, and neighborhoods. We were serious students who fulfilled their dreams and ours. My class produced, Doctors, Pharmacists, Dentists, social workers, teachers, business people, and elected officials. Most of us came from large families (6 kids in mine) and lived in 3 bedroom homes that had one small bathroom. We did homework on the kitchen table seen over by parents who often tested us on what we did (my mother was strict). I grew up with many people who had gifts like those of PBO and MO, indeed, I am one of them. PBO has given so many of us, from many walks of life, an example that we can use to encourage the young people around us. I have faith in them just as PBO does. What begins this week is not something that will have the type of long-lasting influence that which came before.
It becomes clearer now why he mocked the reporter and belittles the press….they can do something HE CANāT.

We should tweet Tom Perez as soon as he becomes DNC chair… no more allowing non-Dems to register as Dem just to run for POTUS. Slanders is still showing as Independent in the Senate and should be disqualified. The rule should be 5 years and full support for the Dem agenda, no changing it to a socialist one.
I would add that whoever becomes DNC Chair should be pushed on this- 5 years as a Registered Democrat and full support for the dem agenda, to run for POTUS as a Democrat.

At the end of this week, we will be saying goodbye to the classiest, most down-to-earth president we have had in many years. President Obama and his family are the first First Family since the Camelot years of the early 1960s to make us proud of our choice in leadership. He has been accused of siding with the Russian dictator over the United States and he has often sided with Vladimir Putin over the actual patriots who put their lives on the line to get us the intelligence we need to keep our country safe. Donny cannot handle anyone saying anything negative about him and he canāt let anything bounce off him without responding. According to most accounts, he hates computers (āthe cyberā), but he has discovered Twitter and cannot allow any slight against him to go without a response. He has embarrassed the United States repeatedly and he hasnāt even taken office yet. Heās a dumbass to the highest order and everyone who supported him, whether they voted for him, or they supported him by not voting for Hillary Clinton, is also a dumbass of the highest order. df, I hate to add to your stress but I really am terrified. We see by his response to the IC that he shreds anyone who tells him anything he doesnāt want to hear. He will surround himself with his children and only sycophants because he is incapable of critical thinking and has an extremely fragile ego. So there will be no one who will hold him accountable for anything, not Congress, not half the country, especially not the press.
My first degree is in psychology with an emphasis in cognitive science and natural language processing, so Iāve studied a lot about cognition. Trump cannot process information in any orderly way. He has no facility with how to build a logical argument that doesnāt appeal to base instincts. He doesnāt know what it means to process complex information or express himself coherently. He does not listen to anyone. Heās arrogant beyond measure. The interview that came out yesterday in IK Times is horrifying on its own. He is emotionally explosive. We are in serious, serious danger.

Trump will soon be literally awash in work, reading, information and problems. He will obviously be overwhelmed in a way that we cannot fathom. How he deals with that is going to be very apparent very soon, especially since heās surrounding himself with self-absorbed flunkees. We are going to need to figure out how to ratchet up the resistance real soon.

John Lewis, failed to mention or show any of the tweeted photos that residents of Rep. Lewisā district sent out that gave the lie to DOās characterization, and referred to him as” Mr. Lewis” rather than Rep. John Lewis. No mention was made of the support of Minority Leader Nancy Peloisi or others. Uniformed readers, especially White ones, will come away with thinking that this situation is not as important and wide-spread as it is.

Oppressed people are mostly just trying to survive. Whenever there has been a brief time and place of prosperity for a relatively small group, the backlash has been so great (think of the Black Townships in Tennessee and Florida that were destroy whites, the aftermath of reconstruction, and Jim Crow after Black soldiers who returned from WWI, etc) because they are so fearful that the oppressed will become the oppressors. White people have to talk to the only people that they respect; other white people to come to an understanding of the absolute need for truth and reconciliation if this country is to grow up and be a truly great nation. Neither Hookās raise or Chaffinās overtime eligibility happened. Instead, they became two of the estimated 4.2 million workers left in personal-finance limbo when a federal district judge in Texas issued a last-minute stay to the Obama administrationās initiative to overhaul the rules for overtime pay, which had led many employers to announce forthcoming changes to their workersā compensation. After the ruling, Hookās and Chaffinās workplaces announced they would hold off on any changes initiated to bring them into compliance with the now-stalled regulationāa regulation that the Trump administration may be reluctant to defend.
These workers were promised they would receive raises or overtime pay. And then, a presidential upset and a judicial ruling later, that promised money was taken away. āThe university should not renege on something they said they were going to do,ā Hook told me.
