I haven’t slept properly since Dolt45 announced he was running for the presidency. I’ve also completely cut off a few family members and more than a few of my so-called friends, not communicating with them at all since the election. These are not redeemable people in my eyes. People who believe Breitbart and InfoWars are the gospel truth simply are not worth my time and I most certainly have no desire to associate or be associated with them. 😦 Every day I could cry about the state of affairs in the US, and I’m not even a US citizen.
Hugs to you, keltuc - I felt all of that! We WILL survive. We ARE Obama Survivors! If he could survive the crap they threw at him for 8 years, we can just keep fighting. I’m still beyond angry that none of us could even totally ENJOY the 8 years, due to the crap the crappy people threw at him, but I wouldn’t change my support for him for anything!

And yes, that’s because I saw PBO and his First Lady not only endure 8 years of racist bullshittery, but also rise above all of it, with unparallelled* intelligence, grace and class, and truly triumph and accomplish so much in spite of all of it. And also, I know that too many here at TOD have been subject to the exact some racist bullshittery their entire lives - and they’re still here, fighting against it daily. So all of that gives me perspective and strength, yet I still feel as if the tRump presidency (if he doesn’t blow up the whole world first) is going to take at least a few extra years off my life.

One of my old bosses and his wife and son dropped their daughter/sister off at college one weekend. On the way off campus, the wife was crying and the guard at the gate said, “Don’t worry. She’ll be okay.” My boss responded, “It’s not her we’re worried about!”

Can oh so relate. When the last one didn’t come for home supper I had a total protonic reversal, as though the Universe had crashed into my heart (which it had).
When I was head preceptor at one of the colleges at UC, I used to greet parents when they were dropping off their kids. I had separate orientations for the students and the parents so they could feel free to ask whatever questions they had - and they all asked very good questions. Then after that, there was one large reception for all. The kids would invariably want to leave the reception early and go and unpack their stuff in their new dorm rooms and that’s when the parents would break down. The kids would leave and then the Moms, Dads, just completely choked up. I did my best to reassure them I would look out for them all. And then the following week, the kids would show up in my office, completely homesick.
President Obama loves his wife and his girls unabashedly. Lucky them! Lucky us to have had him as our leader for 8 years. Well, he still is.

We really need to know who has what on the GOP congress to make over 60 attempts to deny access to affordable, life-saving healthcare for their own constituents as well as the rest of us. A battle was won today, but the war is not over. So hoping that more eyes are opened to how dangerous the GOP is to the well-being of our country and that all of the electorate shows up to show out in the 2018 midterms. In the meantime, we have to get people registered and to fight off the voter suppression and election hacking schemes that will be on steroids.
So happy that the US comfort is on its way to PR. The mayor of San Juan has been in tears, begging for help. Over and over this misbegotten administration and the GOP that made them possible, have shown over and over that they are in government to serve only their own interests and that of their paymasters. People are slowly realizing the reality of this; I hope they stay woke and do their finest resistance by voting democrat in 2018 and beyond.
