There is a big, beautiful painting of Barack Obama in our high school cafeteria, too, which is used every election as a voting place. Last year, 2016, somebody covered the painting with a cloth, saying it was a political statement. I said, hey, this is the President of the United States, painted by a student of this school, in the state where he was born. I did not prevail in my arguments (I’m a poll official, too). Bad omen for that election 😦 Soooooo glad to see this PBO portrait is hanging proudly at a polling place this year!!
Thank you for fighting for the portrait, no matter how it worked out! As I’m sure you know, the President’s photograph is in federal buildings. Think I already mentioned here but that won’t stop me that I was already retired as a Navy civilian when Barack Obama became president, but I recall the first time I saw his official photograph in the lobby of a fed building … I went right over to it, stood there smiling at it, and if I had a candle in my purse, I would have lit it and made a personal shrine beneath it. Ha! Not sure who saw me smiling, and still don’t care!

GM, TOD ohana on this glorious after-election day! I avoided election coverage yesterday because I simply could not handle the stress (PTSD from last year, and all of the hopeful anxiety of 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2016). I opened by email to a post from Kamala Harris about a Democratic wave and the relief and joy were almost overwhelming. Hope is indeed back it it came from the old-fashioned work of gotv. When Democrats show up, we win. 46% of the electorate stayed home in 2016 and I think this more than the other factor led to the awful results. I hope that we can stay focused, run for everything, vote every time, and gotv like our lives, our family’s and our country’s lives depend upon it because it does. The thing that I am most proud of in the everyday people of the Democratic party is that it looks like America. Everyone from top to bottom in the party needs to embrace this because it is our power. Any study of any type of evolution shows that the organism that is able to adapt to a changing environment is the one that survives and thrives, this is survival of the fittest. When this country finally moves from its shameful history and racists practices and embraces the true strength that comes from our diversity, we will then truly be a powerful nation, that shining city, that lives up to its ideals. I am hopeful, but not complacent. We have a lot of work to do and the haters are going to come at us even harder, but if we follow the examples/lessons learned from PBO, we can turn this country around and back to the path that will led all of us to a future that is more just, more equal, and more compassionate.
Hi, DF. What a difference a year makes, yes? Barack told us to get up, dust ourselves off and get to work. He always says that we are not as divided as our politics would leave one to believe; this I found harder to espouse, but yesterday’s results appear to prove his belief. Have a good day with the kiddos at school.
YES:) We need to turn out. Most of America believes as we do…we just need to show up and vote! Otherwise, we see that the sludge seeps in where we didn’t go!
Nursing some kind of ridiculous respiratory thing…the dry cough can just about make me yak. The kids gave it to me:)
OMG, how much fun would it be to be in a courtroom with PBO??!! I bet he will have fun with it.
I remember last time he voted in Chicago and he got harassed by the boyfriend of the women he was next to at the voting station. All in good fun, it was hilarious!
You know they are going to excuse him because he would be too much of a distraction, much to his disappointment. You know that he really wants to part of this work as a citizen and as a regular, normal person, but it won’t be happening.
True, forget about sucking up to the Berniebros, the Jill Stein-like candidates, and so-called moderate republicans. Work with what you have, add like-minded folks to the pot and make sure everyone gets to the polls. We do not need to kiss anyone’s ass or to act like them to win. We need only to stand for/run for something and gotv. It is hard to do it right, but in the long run the party and the country will be better for it. We are so blessed to have PBO as an example of this.

Fellow Democrats. We won big last night. Huge. It wasn’t close. It was a blowout.

1/ This election taught us that one big thing matters: contest EVERY state and local seat. Even hard right ones. Because you’ll always win at least a few. If we do that in 2018, the House is ours.
— Matthew Chapman (@fawfulfan) November 8, 2025
2/ By that same token: a good ground game and a powerful message of resistance is needed. When we all work together to turn out the vote, great things happen.
“…contest EVERY state and local seat. Even hard right ones. Because you’ll always win at least a few.” That thought should cause heartburn for some GOP’s who, in the past, have counted on their races to be uncontested.
For sure. This is why we must be diligent and keep working to counter their dirty tricks. They won’t just slink back into their caves and leave forever. Now they’re desperate.
Nice cross-section of Americans, there! THIS is inclusion. THIS is diversity. THIS is why we still have the Statue of Liberty in our harbor. We still “yearn to be free” and we still need Democrats running the show!
One more: - Trump’s election may actually have taken the steam out of the immigration scare tactic. Polls show his voters already feel satisfied that his presence alone is “fixing” that. If so, Gillespie wasted his time, stimulated voters of color and wrecked his good name.

“A Democratic wave sends a ripple through Georgia politics”
Democratic newcomers flipped two state House seats in northeast Georgia considered so conservative that the party hasn’t even contested them since the lines were redrawn in 2012. And Democrats captured an Atlanta-based state Senate district long held by a Republican, breaking the GOP super-majority in the chamber.
“It’s a testament to the importance of a party contesting every seat possible,” said Republican operative Todd Rehm. “Kudos to Georgia Democrats for their recruitment efforts.”
He added that he’s not sure what kind of precedent the votes set, since special elections are imperfect predictors of midterm votes. But he warned that the results will likely spur a new Democratic mission to contest all possible elections, even in deeply conservative areas.

This is amazing! I am so happy!
One of my favorite songs, Dudette, thank you 🙂

What a beautiful sentiment to wake up to. Thank you, CEB. Agree!
What a day to wake up and report to jury duty! 😁
OMG, how much fun would it be to be in a courtroom with PBO??!! I bet he will have fun with it.
I remember last time he voted in Chicago and he got harassed by the boyfriend of the women he was next to at the voting station. All in good fun, it was hilarious!
Yep! 😄
You know they are going to excuse him because he would be too much of a distraction, much to his disappointment. You know that he really wants to part of this work as a citizen and as a regular, normal person, but it won’t be happening.
Yeah, I know. But it will be a GREAT lesson in civic duty. He’ll make it so.
Yes, he will. I just love him.
Same here. Always. ❤️
😀 😀 😀 One that I never get tired of watching.
He’s just such a funny sweet guy, he can’t help himself!!
Great good morning, Nerdy Wonka and TODville!!!! What a night!!!! The RESISTANCE is alive and well and knocking on your door!!!!
We are so blessed to have PBO as an example of this.
lotsa fursts.
Democrats look like America.
✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
have summore
every fucking vote fucking counts.
AMK, so glad you did not leave us after the heart-breaking 2016 travesty. It is good to have you here encouraging and harassing us (like good brothers do) and sharing in the difficult times as well as the good news and times.
Thanks CEB. If the dems had lost significantly y’day, I wudda quit.
Damn you, obama and dems (the real ones)
Donna posted this upstream…
Looks like they are at 16 with 6 races still open.
Missed it. Thanks!
Hoping that at least one out of the three where Dems are up will result in an outright win (no recount) … and the majority.
👍🏾
stop stealing my lines, kenyan.
TODAY is a great day for America.
for media assholes and loony left.
Wooooot!
Barack’s and Hillary’s words filled her speech. They believe in us and help us to believe in ourselves.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
The face of change!
lol.
Dudette,
You rock!
So do you! 😘
I’m screaming!
Trump asked the WH kitchen to replicate McD’s menu. UGH. I just can’t with these morons.
Exactly,.
I would also like to believe that if Dems get to vote — en masse — maybe even some of the effects of gerrymandering can be overcome.
We can do it. All of it. Yes.We.CAN!
We also need paper ballots everywhere.
Oh yes!
Yes 🌎
To recap:
Nice cross-section of Americans, there! THIS is inclusion. THIS is diversity. THIS is why we still have the Statue of Liberty in our harbor. We still “yearn to be free” and we still need Democrats running the show!
You beat me Dudette.
By the way, you must teach me how to “Like” in this post. Thanks for all your clicks. I need a friend and with I had your e-mail.
Ahh, Democrats. And people of conscience. You did good!
Happy morning, TODville! Thanks for giving us this platform of ideas, Nerdy darlin’!
Uh huh!
I can now check out Twitter with confidence.
Watch what you say, guys!!
I’m putting this one high up on my list of favorite things that happened in yesterday’s election cycle! Too funny.
She just snatched his wig in the light of day. LOLz.
Ha! Might have to send that woman a congratulatory card!
He seems to be the only one who thinks so…
Of course, there’s a way he can prove this… if he releases his taxes.
I hate this. It makes it harder for those who have real and valid complaints/charges.
One of the black Air Force cadets targeted by racist vandalism has admitted to writing the slurs on the dormitory message boards.
A spokesman for the Air Force Academy said the cadet candidate was no longer a student at the preparatory school, reported the Air Force Times.
Next, Maine needs to get rid of LePage.
New post.
