Here is my suggestion: if the scumbags pass this republican tax scam, the den candidates must run on cancelling it and starting over in a bipartisan manner. PBO ran on reversing the bush tax cut and he won. So PBO has already proved one can win campaigns emphasizing raising taxes on the rich.

I hope that during their reflective moments, these republicans recognize that the many unprecidented actions they have taken this year and during PBO’s administration will one day (soon) be reversed. Obstruction and locking out the opposition during policy formulation will be quoted by other legislators. So will: stealing the supreme court seat, packing the courts and agencies with unqualified people, dismantling healthcare, voting rights, environment, reproductive rights. Power is cyclical

n the middle of the night, on a 51-49 party line vote, Senate Republicans passed their tax scam — a blatant giveaway to corporations and billionaires at the expense of women, children, seniors, immigrants, poor people, small businesses, and so many more.
Yep. That means 51 Senators voted to raise your taxes, increase your health insurance premiums, leave 13 million more people uninsured, and explode the deficit by more than $1 trillion. The Senate bill joins the House’s version which passed right before Thanksgiving.
Because you denied Republicans a win this summer (and then again in September) on repealing the Affordable Care Act, they were desperate to pass their tax scam and get a win for their wealthy donors. They passed this bill without regular order, debate, or committee hearings. Their process was so f*$%-ing shady that part of their bill was literally hand written on a piece of paper and voted on 7 hours later. And then they voted in the middle of the night because they thought they could get away with it without any repercussions.
We’re down, but not yet out. Right now, we are losing this fight. Republicans have publicly stated that they’ll “go to conference,” where they’ll merge the two bills together. But we’ll believe it when we see it — the House could just as easily pass the Senate version (read our explainer on what happens next here). Here’s what we need to do right now to fight back as the bill heads to conference:
Schedule a visit to your MoC’s offices: If you have a Republican Senator, let them know how mad you are that they just voted to raise your taxes, increase your premiums, and leave 13 million more people uninsured. If you have a Democratic Senator, thank them for their vote and tell them to keep up the pressure. Schedule a visit to their district offices before late next week.
Make. more. calls. Get mad and get loud. Call 1-855-980-2350 to be connected to one of your Senators. When your call is over, dial again and it’ll connect you to your other Senator. Tell Republicans that you’re watching their every move and thank Democrats for continuing to stand strong.
Indivisibles have led the way on this fight since Day 1 and this is a hard vote to say the least. You’ve showed up at town halls. You made phone calls. You rallied. You made district office visits. You did everything right.
Now, we have to hold them accountable. The 51 Senators who voted to raise health insurance premiums, leave 13 million more people uninsured, and explode the deficit by more than $1 trillion can’t get off scot-free. They’ve lost the right to represent us. Together we will hold them accountable.
Schedule a visit. Make a call. Don’t let them get away with this.

The Tax Reform Act of 1986 involved months of public hearings and negotiations and was both bipartisan and revenue-neutral. In contrast, the final text for the legislation passed by the Senate today was rewritten at the last minute and presented to senators – to say nothing of the American public — mere hours before the final vote. In addition, Senate Republicans:
Held no public hearings on the legislation.
Failed to involve Senate Democrats in the writing or negotiation of the bill.
Passed a bill that will explode the deficit by nearly $1.5 trillion.
Passed a bill that will raise taxes on tens of millions of families.
Passed a bill that will raise the number of uninsured Americans by 13 million and raise premiums for middle-class families that buy their own insurance by thousands of dollars.
Passed a bill on a party-line vote.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — President Donald Trump’s administration announced Friday that it won’t require mining companies to prove they have the financial wherewithal to clean up their pollution, despite an industry legacy of abandoned mines that have fouled waterways across the U.S.
The move came after mining groups and Western-state Republicans pushed back against a proposal under former President Barack Obama to make companies set aside money for future cleanup costs.
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt said modern mining practices and state and federal rules already in place adequately address the risks from mines that are still operating.
Requiring more from mining companies was unnecessary, Pruitt said, and “would impose an undue burden on this important sector of the American economy and rural America, where most of these jobs are based.”
The U.S. mining industry has a long history of abandoning contaminated sites and leaving taxpayers to foot the bill for cleanups. Thousands of shuttered mines leak contaminated water into rivers, streams and other waterways, including hundreds of cases in which the EPA has intervened, sometimes at huge expense.
The EPA spent $1.1 billion on cleanup work at abandoned hard-rock mining and processing sites across the U.S. from 2010 to 2014.
Since 1980, at least 52 mines and mine processing sites using modern techniques had spills or other releases of pollution, according to documents released by the EPA last year.

The President is on a mission
WTF is going on in your country, Barack is, I am sure, the first thing that each leader has asked him. PBO, I am sure, is trying to assure them that the rule of law will win out, that progress is not linear and that we are better people than our politics suggest as he always does when people express fear and outrage for the shit show that has consumed us. I do not have the kind of faith that he has, but I am glad that he has it. PBO is like a roving ambassador, reminding leaders and the world that the country that produced the current corrupt leader and federal government, also produced a rational, intelligent, eloquent and culturally aware president and an 8 year corruption-free administration most recently.
The answer is NO. He never stops lying!

The pols have continually misled people. I hope the people of Alabama are ignoring them and that the majority of voters show up and show out for Doug Jones. I no longer follow elections in other places or put any hope in anything really. A backlash and a last desperate push to get rid of fledging ideas of true equality and justice are in full swing and will be for awhile. No matter the final outcome, those of us who are considered to be the least in this society will suffer and be forgotten as we have always been. We are digging in to survive while the latest tempest howls overhead.
It’s not hard for me and my wife to get up and go to work every morning because we both have rewarding careers and we both have financial responsibilities. But what is difficult is every morning seeing the faces of my coworkers that vote Republican. This tax bill does not help anyone in my universe, unless unbeknownst to me I work with secret millionaires. I am totally disgusted this morning, not even the joy of Flynn waking up as a convicted felon can soothe the pain of what our elected government has perpetrated on its citizens. For shame, for shame, for shame. The only thing that keeps me going is that there will be a day of reckoning for all those members of congress and that voted for this monstrous bill.
I feel nauseated at what they’re doing to our democracy. And throwing it in our faces, laughing as they loot the Treasury.
