Lately I’ve been watching documentaries about WW2 and about Hitler. What was fascinating about the rise of the Third Reich was how Hitler as able to get his generals to do just about anything, even crimes against humanity. What is it in a man’s makeup that will convince him to do genocide? How does person’s moral code get so corrupted that he tries to exterminate an entire group of people?
That’s a deep question. I’ve always wondered how Hitler suckered millions of civilized people to follow his insane orders. Some of the Discovery channels run programs on Nazi Germany and I watch whenever I can.

The US will maintain an open-ended military presence in Syria to ensure the enduring defeat of the jihadist group Islamic State, counter Iranian influence, and help end the civil war.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said President Donald Trump did not want to “make the same mistakes” that were made in 2011, when US forces left Iraq.
The US has about 2,000 troops in Syria.
Mr Tillerson denied the US was training a Kurdish-led border force, but Turkey accused it of sending mixed signals.
“US officials have made statements that refute one another,” said Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, whose country fiercely opposes such a move.
“One day it was said that a new border force had been set up, another day they said they are setting up a unit with local forces in order to maintain security in the region after eliminating Daesh [Islamic State group, or IS] in the region. These are all confusing statements.”
The US secretary of state said officials had “misspoke[n]” when they said the US was planning to set up a 30,000 strong “border security force” in northern Syria underpinned by the allied Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militia.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the change less than a week after President Donald Trump reportedly questioned in an Oval Office meeting why the United States would want to take in immigrants from Haiti and African nations, referring to them as “shithole” countries. Trump has denied using that word.
DHS said in a regulatory filing that it was removing Haiti from lists of more than 80 countries whose citizens can be granted H-2A and H-2B visas, given to seasonal workers in agriculture and other industries.

I swear to god just yesterday I was telling my son how proud of him that he made the A/B honor roll after I picked him up from school. And I told him with a good education he could be anything he wants to be. But then you have to tell your child how the world sees him or her. As an African American parent you have to balance the idea of telling your child to reach for the stars, all the while knowing in the back of your mind that their are powerful forces out there that will judge your child solely on the color of his or her skin.
Strictly as a far-away observer (but also as a part-Irish great grandmother - trust me - I know things - Ha!), your son is fortunate to have you for a dad, Don. I can feel the love. And I’m thinking you feel doubly fortunate to have him as your son! Way to go on his making the honor roll. Please give him my congrats, along with everybody else’s. ❤
