You well deserved your Nobel, Mr. President. I know you were being humble and self-deprecating, but if you keep saying that, it will diminish your work and the value of the Nobel Peace prize and the work the committee does.
I agree Hachiko. President Obama deserves his Nobel Peace prize!
Saw your post on the Tea Party’s sinking approval ratings, Chip. Here’s some more good news:
“Trust in Fox News plummets: poll
In the space of one year, Fox News has lost its perch as the most trusted TV news network in the US and is now average at best, a new survey has found.” http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/01/19/trust-fox-news-plummets-poll/
About time Fox viewers woke up to the fact that they’ve been absorbing lies, misinformation, and rightwing propaganda.
I think it’s because it’s now becoming personal and tangible. When union workers who voted for a Republican Governer and Assembly, are called slobs and parasites – and told that they’ve had enough time living off real American taxpayers – they experience cognitive dissonance. Suddenly, the hatred they’ve been fuelling is directed at them. This followed closely after the fiasco with the 9/11 Responders bill, which really didn’t make any sense at all. The enemy is now themselves.
Good points Theo. Let’s just see if folks remain fully awake and engaged, and not despair when things don’t happen overnight, like mature adults.
Encouraging news, Hachikō, thank you! It still freaks me out, though, that 42% think Fox can be trusted. Good grief.
What great news. It is good for PBS and us. How anyone could trust a thing coming out of their mouths is unbelievable. Shep is ranked second in viewer audience. He is honest. People seem to get that.
I agree our President absolutely deserved his Nobel Prize. And I’m mad that we never knew that Chou designed the cap that worked to stop the oil spill. Damn media hid that so the administration couldn’t get any credit. The way they reported things, BP was responsible. I hate the media.
Oops that should be Dr. Chu.
I did not know Secretary Chu did that! Wow!
I didn’t know that either.
I love PBO and Dr. Chu! Of course, I must admit that I’ve always been attracted to brainiacs!
I agree, the pictures of him yesterday amongst all those nerdy science majors etc made my day.
OMGaaaaaah I LOVE THIS HUMBLE well deserved Nobel peace prize winning president!!!! heehee* love when he makes himself lol, so handsome.
I think anybody knew that Dr. Chu was responsible for the design of the cap.
It just goes to show that this president isn’t in it for the praise. I think both him and Dr. Chu are humble.
But when recognition is due, it is due, and I think the President realized this in this case which is why he mentioned Secretary Chu’s involvement.
I meant to say that I “don’t” think anybody knew ” hat Dr. Chu was responsible for the design of the cap.
Gosh I don’t know what’s going on with my fingers today.😦
Please excuse the typos.
I knew, and thought everyone else knew, lol. Must admit, it did fly under the radar, but was in the news somewhere. Maybe I read it on weeseeyou.
Dr. Chu was the commencement speaker at my daughter’s graduation last May. He was the most down-to-earth man. Funny, self deprecating in a nice way, and, for how smart he is, very engaging. If you ever get to hear him speak, take the opportunity.
Wow, that must have been terrific cuphalffull, he’s just a hugely impressive man.
Love Dr. Chu! Rachel has him on occasionally and he’s always interesting.
In other “breathtaking” Cable News, the president has just received the LOWEST FAVORABILITY of his presidency, 42% from Quinnipac Poll & LESS THAN 50% (41%) want to reelect him………High Fives all around from the professional left….Victory is theres!
Sorry, PL, Gallup is 49% today; 48% yesterday! The prez wins again! High Fives, Obots! (That’s what they call me anyway; among other things)
Ha, just posted that poll info cat48! It cracks me up how everyone is ignoring the Gallup poll, soooooooooo predictable!
More info from Media Matters that supports your post, cat48:
ABC/Washington Post: 51%
Allstate/National Journal: 49%
And here’s a very recent result, not listed by PollingReport.com:
For the month of March, Obama’s approval rating has been quite consistent (average: 50%), just as it’s been for nearly the last 18 months. But when the Quinnipiac poll came out and broke with that trend, and broke with the trend in a negative direction, suddenly that single poll was big news.
The PL should know better. Even Fox has his numbers high. That’s saying something.
Brilliant link Majii, just updated the post about the polls with the MediaMatters report – you’re a star😉
was it just me or was that line about extracting natural gas really, really funny? you can tell the Prez got the double entendre after he said the line cause he pauses and starts to chuckle again. So did the audience😉
That completely cracked me up too Lisa! His expression! Like extracting natural gas in your garage at the weekend is just a regular thing to do??😆
It’s just not right for Media, not to report all of the News leaving out the good parts. I was so happily surprise to hear POB say that Dr. Chu designed the cap for BP. Ohhhhhhhh but the Media put our President through the ringer during the BP spill. And even the little funny looking man from New Orleans, you know, Is it Jendal, not sure of the correct spelling, but he gave our President a hard time too😦 Well!!! I hate to believe that the Media Is so down right dirty, bias, and one sided. I tell you, there’s a “LOT” of mean spirited People In this world and they are holding big professional jobs. Liars, Crooks, and Thieves.
That’s the thing Shirley, we all – naturally – try to focus on the more positive polls, but you’d think it was the job of the media to show a little more balance than us!
Don’t forget that that little funny looking man also spent over $200 million on a solution that didn’t work, and actually caused harm to the ecosystem there, in an effort to show up the President. The media conveniently forgot about that.
The Obama administration has the responsibility to get the truth out, especially since the teabaggers/GOP are expert at getting out lies and bad policy myths. We all should have known about Chu’s design the minute it stopped the oil flow. And the President should not say he didn’t deserve his nobel peace prize. It insults the committee. If the GOP can brag about made up stuff in an opposite reality, the Prez can humbly submit to the truth of his deserving that medal!
I agree about the joking about the prize June. I don’t want him to ever defer to the haters out there. I will never forget how some media actually cheered when he lost the bid for the Olympic Committee to hold the games in Chicago; the following week, he won that Nobel Prize, and same media nearly died of disgust. How the hell can a country not be proud of an attempt to get the games, and its President win such an honor, and call itself exceptional? Bullshit on that. Also, I actually recall reading about Chu formulating the design for that cap over at Whitehouse.gov at the time when BP was having such a time handling the spill, and that “funny looking man/ @Shirley…LOL, was parading aroung New Orleans trying to look presidential. When the President says I’ve got this, folks should accept that he’s got it.
Edp4, I took his joking about not deserving the Nobel Peace Prize as mocking the critics and naysayers. I could be wrong, but that’s the way I took it!
Hey June, I think the admin should higher a PR group. I’ve been saying so from the begining, they know they can’t rely on MSM,so, you are right, that’s on them. However, in regards to the peace prize, I think he was just highlighting the irony that he got a peace prize and he is in effect, through no fault of his own, a war president, so he’s in effect poking fun at others who throw his peace prize back in his face. But also, I think he is also expressing just a bit of….ire? exasperation? (not sure either is the right word), in that, he would have rather had the prize either well into his presidency or after his two terms when he could have been judged on his legacy and body of work, not because of his potential or what he could eventually do, but what he did do and the impact he would have had on the country and the generations over whom he would have served. I understand this, it’s nice to know people believe in your potential, but the prize is all the sweeter once you’ve been through the fire and the flood and you come out on top.
sorry, meant “hire”. Ugh. would you believe I re-read that prior to posting it?! stupid cheese puffs, got so caught up in their cheesy goodness, I didn’t pay close attention!!!😦
Nooooooooooooooooo – now you’ve left me with an overwhelming desire for cheese puffs😦
I respectfully disagree. The WH has an excellent tool for disseminating info at whitehouse.gov. I think the onus is on our MSM….and they are failing, and frankly I don’t think they deserve the pass. A properly functioning media is essential to the health of our Democracy.
I believe the President was poking a stick in the eyes of the naysayers when he suggested he “didn’t deserve” his Nobel Peace Prize. Who cuts President Obama any slack, imagine the MSM exploding if he were to “humbly submit to the truth of his deserving that medal.” They would have to unspin their spin of the last several years…..arrogant, uppity, cold, professorial, detached……they are more invested in their own egos and agendas then they are in simply presenting the truth.
