The Guardian: Sarah Palin wants to show to the Republican right that she is the true keeper of the Ronald Reagan flame by meeting the late president’s closest ally on the world stage. A meeting with Margaret Thatcher in the centenary year of Reagan’s birth would be the perfect way of launching her bid for the Republican nomination for the 2012 US presidential election.

This is what Palin told Christina Lamb in the Sunday Times: “I am going to Sudan in July and hope to stop in England on the way. I am just hoping Mrs Thatcher is well enough to see me as I so admire her.”

It appears that the former prime minister has no intention of meeting the darling of the Tea Party movement … This is what one ally tells me:

Lady Thatcher will not be seeing Sarah Palin. That would be belittling for Margaret. Sarah Palin is nuts.”

Thank you Meta!

It should be said, Thatcher was/is nuts too, so there might have been a meeting of minds 😕

I did it again, I visited Teabagger-land to see their reaction to this, seeing as they adore Thatcher almost as much as the half-termer. I loved this response from someone who reckoned it was all explained by Britain’s moral ‘decline’:

Yes, the British have chosen to live under “shiria” law and “whorship” gay people.

GOPolitico: Michelle Bachmann’s new top consultant, Ed Rollins, began his tenure with scathing criticism of potential Bachmann rival Sarah Palin. “Sarah has not been serious over the last couple of years,” Rollins told Brian Kilmeade on his radio show, Kilmeade and Friends. “She got the Vice Presidential thing handed to her, she didn’t go to work in the sense of trying to gain more substance, she gave up her governorship.”

He suggested that the contrast would favor Bachmann. “Michele Bachmann and others [have] worked hard, she has been a leader of the Tea Party which is a very important element here, she has been an attorney, she has done important things with family values. She is probably the best communicator [in the GOP field] now that Mike Huckabee’s not in there,” he said.

Rollins has long been skeptical of Palin, but his new role with Bachmann suggests that criticism will become part of her campaign, though she has publicly praised the former Alaska governor.

weird….

National Journal: Daniel Bongino, a former U.S. Secret Service agent whose recent assignments included a posting to President Obama’s protective detail, has decided to run for the U.S. Senate in Maryland as a Republican.

At an agency that stresses the silence and political neutrality of its agents, Bongino’s announcement is raising eyebrows … the Secret Service frowns upon former agents who make sudden turns to politics….

Bongino is seeking the Republican nomination to take on freshman Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md. Bongino’s Twitter account calls him a “Conservative Republican Candidate for the U.S. Senate” and directs visitors to a campaign website that is offline.

In a press release announcing his candidacy, Bongino said that he left law enforcement “because of political leaders making decisions which are making America a follower and not a leader in the global economy.” ….The Secret Service declined to comment on Bongino’s planned candidacy.
