night everyone

Peace and love!

**** Thank you for the photo hhannahh ****

The photographer: I attended the final Colorado campaign stop that Barack Obama made on 01 Nov 2008, a few days prior to the election …. I actually cried taking this photograph.

I’ve been to thousands of political rallies. I’ve been a delegate, a campaign worker, a political activist. I’ve shaken hands with lots of players in this game. Politics doesn’t usually get to me anymore. I have laughed, screamed, spoken out, marched, or swore… but never cried until that day in Pueblo. When Michelle Obama finished her pep talk and introduced her husband, I looked through my camera’s viewfinder and cried.

This photograph is special because it captures a personal moment between husband and wife, in front of a great public, and conveys an emotion we don’t normally see.

I cried over the personal sacrifice of this couple in making this run for the highest office of our nation. But I also cried because their hope and courage revived in me what led me into politics all those years, rallies, and campaigns ago: belief in the audacity of hope to change our circumstances. I actually believe in this man and in his campaign, in his drive to bring a populist movement to life.

….I do believe this photo has historical merit because it shows a personal yet public moment from the last days of a long and arduous campaign. It exhibits love, which may seem an odd thing to convey in a political campaign, but actually may be the driving force behind why any politician, activist, or photographer does what they do.

cain & unable

Herman Cain’s Iowa Director, Tina Goff, told TheIowaRepublican.com that she has submitted her resignation and is no longer working for the campaign.

…. Kevin Hall has also left the campaign. Hall served as Cain’s Straw Poll coordinator.

…Goff stated that she resigned because the Cain campaign refused to make a serious effort in Iowa, the home of the First-in-the-Nation caucuses.

With just 43 days to the Iowa Straw Poll, Cain’s campaign here in Iowa and nationally seems to be unraveling. Cain lost his New Hampshire director, Matt Murphy, who was his only staffer in that state, earlier this week.

Jim Zeiler, a Cain regional director who had been to Iowa and was helping with the campaign’s Straw Poll plans, has also left the campaign.

Thank you Proud – I’m heartbroken too 😆

thank you!

Hey you lovely people – thank you so much for helping the blog reach its Obama/Biden 2012 fundraising target at barackobama.com – massively MASSIVELY appreciated! There are so many grassroots fundraising pages over there, just imagine what they’re raising when you combine the totals. It’s completely fantastic.

Rather than upping the target again, I’ve decided just to simplify things and direct anyone who wants to donate to Obama/Biden 2012 to the main donation page at barackobama.com (here) – I’ve update the link in the right sidebar, click the logo and it’ll take you there.

Thank you again everyone – sounds to me like you’re fired up and ready to go 😉

‘lessons for the far left’

The PCTC Blog: ….A quick perusal of the leftist “blogosphere” shows people who like to spout facts and figures …. but they seem to neither know nor care about the average person, and they definitely lack understanding of basic politics. It’s amazing how little they know, yet they act like experts, despite the fact that the only people who actually buy their bullshit are like-minded people who are gullible.

Yes, folks; a lot of the far left is JUST LIKE the far right in that way.

… The denizens of the far left are almost all white, they’re almost never poor and they have college educations. They have very little contact with any of the people they claim to be advocating for, yet to listen to them, they know more about being poor or being a minority than the poor and minorities do.

The liberal side of the political debate has been sitting on the sidelines for the better part of 40 years, primarily because a very noisy segment of our ideology is ruining it for the rest of us. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m sick of it. It’s time we taught basic politics to the far left……

See the full magnificent post here (and the list of lessons!)

Thank you Dorothy

“done”

The Fly Jock / Tom Joyner (Blackamericaweb.com):  … I said I’d wait until something pissed me off so bad that I would have the words harsh enough to express what I was really feeling about Tavis Smiley and his side piece – I mean side kick – Cornel West.

Well, yesterday, when Mark Halperin … had the audacity to call the president of the United States a dick, that was all I needed … I’m even more disgusted with Smiley and West, two brothers who I did have expectations of – and thought I knew. These two have done much worse than what Halperin has done because they set the tone for it, opened the door to it, and must take much of the blame for creating a climate that would make a white, professional journalist feel comfortable verbally and vulgarly attacking the first black president of the United States.

When you think you know a person, when you’ve given a person a forum to present his views, when you’ve had a hand in a person’s success, you want to believe that he is the same person he always was.

Remember THAT Tavis … For a while, I thought he was still with us, even though people around me (and many of you) tried to convince me otherwise. “Tavis is a hater.” “Tavis is only about himself.” “Tavis is jealous of the president.” I wouldn’t believe any of it. I had so much respect for him before his primary goal became selling books, and, later, selling out.

…. Tavis, Cornel and Mark Halperin …. When dangerous words incite and brew up hatred and violence, there is a line. And these three crossed it.

…. So, yes, MSNBC, fire Mark Halperin. I hope he never works again. I’ve already fired Tavis and Cornel. There’s nothing either can ever do for me or with me again.

I’ve got a new D-word for the two of them: Done.

ooops

Salt Lake Tribune: …..Will Huntsman created a small headache for the presidential campaign of his dad – Jon Huntsman – when he flashed a “hang loose” sign and asked a buddy to snap a photo of him mugging with rival White House hopeful Mitt Romney.

Can you say father-son chat?

….the youngest son of the former Utah governor …. showed up last Friday at Hires Big H, an iconic Salt Lake City burger joint where Romney spoke to an estimated 250 supporters. As Romney worked the rope line, Will Huntsman found his way to the front and was photographed posing – with pinky and thumb extended – with the former Massachusetts governor…

….Will Huntsman, who will soon enter the U.S. Naval Academy, sported a new buzz haircut and a white polo shirt featuring a crest of the U.S. Embassy of Singapore, where his father previously served as ambassador….

….Huntsman’s campaign cautioned people should not read anything into the appearance. It pointed out that Will Huntsman backs his dad’s presidential bid and was not offering anything near an endorsement of Romney, a distant relative of the Huntsmans.

“Will wanted to see another campaign event,” Huntsman spokesman Tim Miller said when shown the photo. “He was having fun and it was not his intention to be disrespectful in any way.”

problem solver!

Vice President Biden on Friday gave this dramatic (and funny) account of President Obama’s mood in the aftermath of the Osama bin Laden killing, describing a Cabinet meeting after the terrorist was taken out:

“It was his decision, by the way, to nail Osama bin Laden,” Biden said at a Teamsters convention in Las Vegas, pounding the lectern a half-dozen times.

At the Cabinet meeting, Biden said, Obama thanked his national security team, Hillary Clinton, Robert Gates and Leon Panetta at a Cabinet meeting.

Then: ” ‘And I want to thank Joe Biden’ – and he said something that wasn’t true – ‘who knows more foreign policy than me.’

“

There’s more: “Then, he said, ‘By the way, Joe, I want you to settle the budget crisis.’ So I said, ‘OK, no problem.’ ”

😆

Thank you Anonymous – I hate quoting GOPolitico, but this one’s a keeper!

meet mr bachmann

Think Progress: When trying to figure out where presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) gets her stringent, anti-gay views, you only have to look as far as her husband. Dr. Marcus Bachmann, who has described himself as his wife’s “strategist,” runs a Christian-based counseling center in Minnesota that has been rumored to offer reparative treatment for those looking to “ungay” themselves….

….After seeing her husband’s virulent remarks, it’s no surprise then that Michele Bachmann has fiercely disparaged the gay community and has announced she’s in favor of an anti-gay marriage amendment on the campaign trail. What’s the most terrifying isn’t what Dr. Bachmann said, but the threat that the United States could elect a president who believes that homosexuality can be disciplined out of someone.

has romney not heard of “the google”

DemRapidResponse

****

Meanwhile, remember headlines like this – ‘Mitt Romney’s $10 Million Fundraising Windfall’ – from May?

Yahoo (May 17): GOP presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney raised a cool $10.25 million in a single day in Las Vegas, blowing away his competition and proving again he knows how to make money.

Today:

Think Progress: On May 16, with great fanfare, Mitt Romney announced that he “raised $10.25 million” in a single day. The announcement resulted in an avalanche of good press…..

….Romney himself touted the $10 million figure, saying, “That’s a terrific start. Actually it’s more than just a start – it really gives us the boost that we need at this early stage in my effort.”

….As it turns out, the campaign wasn’t telling the truth. Yesterday, the Los Angeles Time revealed Romney’s “sleight of hand”:

….the campaign not only didn’t raise $10 million in one day, they didn’t even collect $10 million dollars in pledges in one day. Instead, they “tallied” pledges they received “earlier.”

The Romney campaign purposely misled the press and the public for their own political advantage.
