Compromise. Country before party. Looking forward all day to hearing a genuinely intelligent, compassionate President speak to us.
Fully paid for!
Love David. So smart and loyal to Pres Obama.
I am really looking forward to the speech. I am off to work, it will be a full day for me. But I will be here for live talking to all of you during the speech. After last night it will be wonderful to see The Adult In The Room!!!! Have a great day everyone!
I absolutely love and adore Jay “Clark Kent” Carney and Bill Daley. Jay was on Morning Joe, CNN and Fox News today and Daley was on CBS ERLY Show, Today Show, and GMA and they both talked about President Obama’s jobs speech and plan which will be officially called “The American Jobs Act.”
Carney was great on Morning Joe. He called the GOP debates a side show and said that if the average middleclass American was watching they didn’t hear anything about how the candidates would make the economy better or provide jobs for them. He said unlike them, President Obama has a plan to help the above mentioned Americans. He said that the plan will be paid for in its entirety, it will include payroll tax cuts that have traditionally had bi-partisan support and will put on average about $1000 in the average Americans pocket, will leave employers with more money in the bank so they can hire more people. He talked about aids to states so that First responders, teachers, and the like can be hired; because they are sorely needed in communities. Take for example Texas and the wildifres where Perry cut funding for firefighters and reduced the workforce by 75% so now news stations and radio stations are begging people who have had volunteer experience with the fire department and know how to fight fires to come and help. Jay also talked about infrastructure spending building roads, fixing schools, making our airports more 21st century than 18th century. He said there’ll be some new ideas within the overarching baskets of other ideas. He was asked about President Obama’s optimism that republicans in congress would work with him and he said that President Obama hopes that congressmembers went home and listened to their constituents and that President Obama will seek a hopeful tone and if repubs want to play the same dangerous game where they brought the economy to the brink of disaster during the debt ceiling debate, that President Obama won’t allow them. He will travel far and wide to sell his plan and that Congress should remember that they’re also up for re-election in 2012 and the American people will want to know why they didn’t work with President Obama to create and provide jobs. On CNN Christine Romer tried to play the GOP handbook by saying why should the GOP work with PBO when he said in 2009 that unemployment would be capped at 8.1% if the stimulus was passed and now he wants to spend more money again. Jay looked at her as though she was an idiot and told her all economists misread the depth of the hole the economy had sunk into. And any economist worth the paper his/her PhD was printed on has said that the stimulus was successful in mnay ways: it saved jobs, it created jobs, it put almost 3 million people in the workforce and put more money in the average Americans pocket so they can make ends meet. I girded my loins and clicked on Fox News to hear Jay speak to that bobbleheaded, empty headed peroxide blonde Gretchen Carlson and it was a hatefest from the start. She began attacking Jay and President Obama by saying why should the American people listen to PBO tonight when all he does and all he’s ever done since taking office is give speech after speech and he hasn’t done anything concrete legislatively since taking office. Hmmmm….. really bride of chucky? Heathcare, stimulus, financial reform. credit card reform, lily ledbetter act, repeal of DADT, payroll tax cut, extending unemployment benefits and on and on and on. She said that President Obama is unserious because he took a month long vacation and is just getting back into town and now wants to give another speech. I thought my head would explode at her blatant lies. Jay looked pissed off and he immediately cut her off. he told her to stop lying to her viewers. That it was congress who took a 5 week vacation. President Obama’s vaction was 9 days. That he’s very disappointed if she’s been feeding such blatant lies to her viewers everyday. Jay began talking about the jobs plan and some of the things that will be in it and Gretchen began yelling saying that she heard from sources that the plan might run into the trillions. Jay said that’s a lie. She then said well, but it’ll be very expensive. Jay told her that the plan will be completely paid for. She then demanded to know what the price tag of the plan was and that her viewers wanted to know. Jay said she and her viewers should tune in to the speech tonight. She then demanded to know if there were new measures in the speech and Jay told her he’s not going to get in front of President Obama before the President presents his plan. She then mocked the payroll tax cuts, unemployment benefits, and infrastructure bank idea and said that was a waste of time and Jay looked aghast and disgusted. Heck, i was disgusted at that point too. He told her that plans that provide jobs for the American people she professes to care about are not and should not be used as tool for mockery. That people who tune in tonight aren’t tuning in to laugh and giggle. They want jobs, they want congress to work with the President and they certainly don’t find the economy a barrel of laughs. That this jobs address has concrete ideas that can put Americans to work quickly and for her to mock it; is being disingenuous to her viewers who need jobs. He ended by saying that he hopes everyone tunes in to watch the speech tonight.
Jay has the patience of Job because Gretchen was being an absolute tool. Jay was so frustrated. At one point when she spouted the lie about PBO taking a month long vacation; Jay muttered “I can’t believe this” in disgust and looked away from the camera to someone else in the room and shook his head.
Wow. Awesome summary utahaustin. I don’t know why this woman gets away with this crap.
you are a saint for watching thanks. I’m going to tweet a little love to the JMan. BTW…..Gretchen?…….also from MN………sigh……..maybe she’s Bachmans twin seperated at birth
Yes. UT you deserve a gold star for watching that garbage. While congress took over a month vacation and is polled at the lowest ever..13%, PBO only took a very short two week vacation with his family and it was cut short to deal with another natural disaster. GWB would not even come off his vacation to deal with a threat of an attack nor Katrina.
my letter to the WH
Tell Jay he’s awesome! A lesser man would’ve strangled Gretchen. Take him out for a blizzard or something he deserves it.
Go Jay GO! 🙂
UT do you mean Christine Romans on CNN? I want to tweet her lying behind.
Yes. It was Christine Romans. Christine Romer was the former economics council advisor to PBO. Thanks Proud.
Whew, I nearly had a heart attack there for a moment! I thought, wow, that doesn’t sound like Romer, what happened??!!
Me too!! My jawed definitely dropped when I saw the name “Romer.”
Me too, Christina Romer was Chair of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors. It has been reported that the economic information given this White House when they entered office was faulty information, the reality was much worse than the information suggested. I can’t talk economics…..but when I read that I was wondering how their figures could be so unreliable. Economics is evidently not an exact science.
Gretchen Carlson graduated from Stanford 😯 which leaves me scratching my head. She is a former Miss America beauty queen, which all I can say is how did she pull that off. She is Fugly (f’n ugly) Michelle Bachmann was one of her nannies growing up-HAH-which leads me to suspect that crazy is communicable, LORD help us. She is uncouth , and if she truly has a brain, she fails to exercise it. FOX should be shit-canned for it’s toxic effect on America’s collective brain. Hopefully, as investigations continue, Murdock and his marauders will be made to answer for their lies and abuse.
Steps down from her soapbox –sorry, all things Fox make me hostile!
“She is a former Miss America beauty queen”
——— please tell me you are joking.
I knew about the beauty queen part but Sue I had no idea the MB had been her nanny. Really? eeeka beeka that explains a lot. I think you’re right crazy is contagious. Hey Sue – how did your gathering go with the flyers and such for your friends?
Tonight…it’s going to be great. 5 including myself. Trying to light a fire under 2 of them, the rest of us pay pretty close attention to what’s going on.
I couldn’t watch the Tpublican debate – and after the live blogging here last night, which I really appreciated and for the humorous aspects of it enjoyed. But after it was over, the humor dissipated and I really felt disgusted by both entities. I guess that is nothing new, but it felt like such a mockery of something we all should take very serious and treat with respect. I woke up thinking it reminded me of the Gong Show, if only we the people could have banged the gong. I have no tolerance for lying, and the crowd response to Perry’s rate of execution in Texas really set my teeth on edge.
I agree Sue. That was a grim and surreal moment when they started to clap – it was one of the biggest applause lines!
Beauty Queens are getting a bad name being represented by Gretchen and Sarah Palin. Seems to me that the GOP good old boys like to use their women’s looks to draw others to them.
Christine Romer (formerly of the President’s Economic Council) is the one who put out that 8.1% unemployment rate that is now bashed over the President’s head every time anyone talks about stimulus. She now appears as a pundit to give her two cents about what the President is doing wrong, and what he should be doing.
Christina Romer. Is she really bad mouthing the President? No shortage of arm chair quarterbacks is there.
oh yes she is the one that gave him that number. She does go around saying what he should and should not do. Even implied that the WH didn’t listen to her about the size of the stimulus needed. The PL suggests that she was deliberately locked out.
The stimulus was based on faulty data. Political realities do not always support intellectual proposals. Maybe politics was too frustrating for her. I am just surprised she would turncoat on this administration.
Thank you so much for watching the muck and summarizing for us. I appreciate it.
Thanks for the recap UT!!!
A month vacation? What a freaking liar.
Thanks so much ut, this is just a a terrific update. As usual, Jay is doing an exemplary job as Press Secretary. I have such admiration for him. I am sorry he had to take such abuse from Gretchen “Fair & Balanced” Carlson.
How do you do this? I could NEVER have the stomach to watch the stupid for the amount of time that you do, and give us all the rundown everyday:) You are an angel and a saint. The fact that so many Americans actually BELIEVE this crap makes me ill.Thank you.Thank you. Thank you.
Unbelievable—-that appearance with Empty Head. Those FOX dunces just live in their own little made-up world, don’t they? They have completely removed themselves from reality. And it ought to be a law that they are not allowed to present misleading and false information to the American people. And I agree that Jay deserves some gigantic prize for his patience and ability to withstand such purposeful ignorance.
This…consumers do need to be protected from misinformation, lies and propoganda.
@UT. Thanks for this recap; I’ve been out of the loop having dental surgery, and being medicated.
Ouch…..wisdom teeth? Hope you take it easy.
Had work down a couple weeks ago – amazing how the remnants of the pain from drilling, and grinding can last. The pain was
a little more than I expected, but the bill was what really hurt.
Thanks & hello my fellow Minnesotan Sue, I had a botched root canal done last year. They didn’t charge me a cent for the work. Even paid for my pain med prescription. The right side of my face looks like hubby punched it. LMBAO
Well I am glad they fixed for free their mistakes. Tough to be a human experiment. Take it easy, glad you have something to ease the pain.
I am walking around with a huge wound on my forehead, I had a blood clot, that was deep in the muscle tissue of my forehead….my Doctor is like what happened, did you hit your head……I must have, I just can’t remember 😀 So I look like I’ve been someones punching bag as well……if someone gives me snake eyes…I just smile.
Wow. Does Gretchen read DailyKos or something? I’ve seen that same mockery and lies on liberal blogs.
Which tells you from where it comes. The lies on DailyKoch come from Fox. Where else?
Wow – thank you for not only the great recap, but also for sitting through all that. I’m thinking I may even have to find a video of Jay’s takedown of the bride of Chucky (good one).
Thank you Utaustin for this excellent summary. I’m so proud of Jay! He really put that Romans Hack fairly and squarely in her place. I’m glad he directly told her that she was LYING.
Thank you, UT! I tune in every morning now to read your rundown – it really saves my blood pressure, while keeping me informed of the right wing talking points for the day. Thanks for doing this so we don’t have to.
That said – I wish I could have seen the smackdown of that Gretchen witch. That sounds like it was worth the rise in blood pressure. If people don’t look at the lies from Murdoch’s empire, and the GOP congress people who are saying they won’t attend the speech, and the fact that the GOP haven’t introduced a single jobs bill this year, or lifted a finger to help the economic recovery – and if they don’t question whether the GOP cares at all about jobs or the US economy, then they are fools and liars. Or worse.
Mila Kunis: I will forever be proud of my vote for Obama
POSTED AT 6:10 PM ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2011 BY TINA KORBE
She scored points with me when she accepted Sgt. Scott Moore’s invitation to the Marine Corps Ball, but, with her recent comments to the U.K.’s “Stylist” magazine, she lost that clout.
“I love Barack Obama, I voted for him and I will forever be proud of my vote,” she said, before defending his performance during the debt ceiling debate. “I know that he [Obama] tried. I know because you keep reading these reports of him trying to compromise with the Tea Party and the Republican Party and trying to come to a 50/50 agreement. I don’t think it was one. I feel the Democratic Party compromised everything and the Republican Party compromised pretty much nothing.”
Clearly, “these reports” she’s referring to came from limited sources. She’d’ve read a far different rendering of the debt drama if she had clicked on Hot Air a time or two.
But what really got my goat was the way she bashed Middle America. In a sequence of remarks in which she lamented the general lack of political knowledge among young people — and encouraged young voters to educate themselves simply by reading (a laudable sentiment) — she suggested folks in flyover country are less aware than those on the coasts.
She chided the younger generation for not reading books, the news, the paper, and then zoned in on “Middle America.” “So obviously you are incredibly ill-informed to the point where they will go do these tests in Middle America… And they’ll ask, ‘OK, what party are you?’ And they’ll say, ‘Republican.’ ‘Why?’ And they can’t even tell you. They have no idea what the Republican Party stands for. Why did I vote for Obama? I can tell you why I voted for him, what I agreed and disagreed with him on, for hours.”
Her advice for the youth of today: “Whoever you vote for, don’t do it just because. And don’t tell me it’s because of religion either because that whole thing is knocked completely out the window. So you better just educate yourself.”
Morning TODers. I hope your Brains are back to normal this morning.
Beautiful and smart! Great combination.
always liked Mila and this makes me dig her even more and great actress.I hope she doesn’t waste her time doing “movies” with Ashton Kutcher;she’s 100.000 better than this guy and he’s very nice guy but actor he isn’t
I like Mila too. At least she can stand her own for a smart young person. I can’t fault her for getting on “middle america” because they do vote against their own best interest. Young people need to vote to make sure they are not put into perpetual debt by the GOP and debtors prison because they missed a school loan payment. Youth today need to be able to afford college or technical schools with low interest loans or free grant money. The GOP made sure their parents can’t borrow on their homes and banks won’t loan unless they pay high interest rates.
Meg Griffin is absolutely right.
Good morning all. HOPE you all have a great Thursday. I am so looking forward to the President’s speech tonight.
Please join me in lighting a candle for our President.
done thanks Jackie 🙂
I’am sooo fired up and ready to , we will have some friends over so they can see the GREATEST president in action.
Are wo going to do the MONEY bomb after the speech I?am ready too.
I vote yes for the money bomb.
Yes I will donate after the speech. Still reading but little comments – broke hand! Hard to type one handed! But I am all in and have the President’s back.
Bill Daley was great On the Early Show, Today Show and GMA. Erica from CBS tried to peddle GOP talking points and Daley called her out on it. He told her, Erica stop reading and spreading the GOP narrative; you’re better than that. He told her that unlike the other side who preach doom and gloom, PBO is all about optimism. He is always giving the American people hope that there will be brighter days ahead if we can all come together; expecially congress and work to put the economy in track again. He talked about PBO’s jobs plan called “The American Jobs Act” and how it would boost the economy and create jobs and if the GOP don’t want to get on board, PBO will take it directly to the American people. When he talked about PBO and his sense of optimism, he said that was one of the reasons he admires and respects PBO. PBO is always encouraging, never a deby downer, never into histrionics or handwringing. He is steady as a rock.
On Today Show Matt Lauer played a tape of PBO early on in his Presidency saying that the buck stops with him and he will be doing his best to improve the economy. Matt Lauer tried to make it sound as if the PBO of 2009 is not the same PBO of 2011. Daley interrupted him and told him that the man in that tape is the same man he is priviledged to work with everyday. He said that PBO has never shirked his repsonsibilities, he has always said the buck stops with him and he has always been consistent in his policies.
On GMA, George Stephanopoulous tried to stir up some mess by playing a tape of Cheney saying that Hillary Clinton is the omly competent member of President Obama’s cabinet and that he hopes she challenges PBO in the primaries. That she would have been a better and more capable President than PBO and he actually thought she would win the nomination and was rooting for her to face McCain in the general. And you know, McCain would have won and the economy wouldn’t be a hell hole. Daley told George that he’s not interested in anything Cheney has to say concerning the Obama administration. That Cheney just wants to sell a book and if Cheney has any advice, he should give it to the GOP candidate because from what he saw last night, they desperately need help. 😆
Daley was feisty on all three networks. We’ve got good smart spokesmen in the Obama administration.
Another great recap, you’re so awesome!
They are so predictable, RW owned media. What a joke they are,.
I really like the name: The American Jobs Act”.
givesss such awesome recaps…love it
I’m doing the “happy dance” over this update. Bill Daley rocks.
This makes me positively giddy. And this particular comment from Bill makes me want to give him a big, fat, juicy kiss.
HE TOLD HER, ERICA STOP READING AND SPREADING THE GOP NARRATIVE; YOU’RE BETTER THAN THAT.
How refreshing?? Tell it Bill. More of this please.
@ UT. thanks again. We definitely know the media’s game is to spin and carry water for the GOP.
AWESOME! Thanks Utahaustin.
Wish we could find a clip and make it viral on twitter.
Bill is very good I watched on CBS and can somebody tweet george Stephanopoulous and remain him THA PERRY was NOT wearing
a U.S flag pin last night do we remember the debate with Hillary.
Excellent – I haven’t known what to make of Daley, but he seems to have fit in beautifully and he is also a smart man who recognizes the gem that is President Obama. Another great summary, UT. Glad he told Erica that she’s “better than that”, in reference to parroting GOP talking points.
Oh I’m digging Bill Daley, specially were he said he is not interested in what Dick ‘the torture’ Cheney has to say. Save the advice for the clowns he saw last night, they need. I love it. I love the fact that they didn’t take any B.S. from the media.
Thank you, UT…amazing as always. And ‘THAT’ to the people who say the President doesn’t have good surrogates.
From Twitter: Breaking: Bachmann to speak after POTUS tonight with her own presser at 8:30 pm et on Capitol Hill.
My tweet: Because it worked out so well last time.
Hahaha, again?? I hope she’ll look directly into the camera this time,.
It’s “Football in America” night after PBO’s speech….go ahead, Michelle…you should be used to talking to yourself by now.
ah…….. she knows there will be a game on right? so the only asses who will see it are the ‘journalists’ on MSNBFOX, FOXLite and FOX, right?
She’s practicing how to look directly into the camera this time.
Hay doo-doo birrd, after the President’s speech, it’s football time. The Saints and Packers, no one want to hear anything Bachmann has to say. She had her chance last night and came out looking like a dope.
So here’s the $64,000 question: do we watch the debate on cable or one of the major networks and give them the ratings so they can see how many people really care to hear the President speak, or, do we watch it in C-SPAN or the WH web site? Are ratings on C-SPAN counted? How about the number of people that log on to the site?
I have a client from 6-7pm. I’m booting her out at 6:50 come hell or highwater in order to watch it on my computer at WH.gov or C-span. Even if I were at home, I would still live stream it from WH.gov. Cable can go suck on a rotten egg.
I have a hair appointment and I hope she’s done before 7PM so I can watch it on C-Span. I will not watch it on any of the other channels because they are too chatty when the president speaks. No chatting last night during that horrible teabag debate.
CSPAN or WH website. Not giving cable my ratings.
Warch it on the WH web site no cable please
I’m watching on WH.gov.
I’ve considered this as well. My choice is to watch it on Whitehouse.gov
Romney Doubles Down on Bush Policies
A Dream for Corporations, A Nightmare for the Middle Class
Romney Job Training Plan Would Lack Financing
His New Plan Conflicts with Republican Efforts to Eliminate Job Training Programs
I had to meet with my accountant yesterday. She’s a raving Republican and not very bright at anything other than accoounting. We don’t discuss politics because I will never get through to her and our business relationship/friendship has tentacles into all areas of my professional life so I pick my battles.
The subject of the debate came up. She hates Obama of course — he has ‘ruined the country’. But get this — she hates Perry even more and cannot believe the Republican field of candidates. She may still be a raving Republican on economic issues but she’s socially moderate to liberal, believes in science and sees every one of these yahoos as a threat to America.
ah…………… so why is she in the repug party? sounds more like a conserva dem to me: harsh on fiscal policy, moderate on social policy.
Because she hates taxes. My husband’s friend, a retired stockbroker, is really a moderate Democrat but refuses to call himself one because of taxes.
Frankly, my accountant surprised me with her criticisms of the Republican field. We all tend to think that if you call yourself a Republican, then in the dark days of 2011, you are calling yourself a member of the tea party and everything it stands for. Frankly, I do believe that — unless you call your party to task for these outrageously dangerous views and you still call yourself a Republican, you are responsible for what they do. Until Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins speak up then there is no reason to treat them as moderates. They vote like sheep, they don’t try to reclaim their moderate Republican roots so they are as responsible as the true believers.
My accountant will never vote for a Democrat and most definitely not Obama. But there are moderates out there who may be more scared of this Republican field than I realized. I do not think well on my feet, and the next time we get together I will better ‘plan’ what to discuss with her. A tax accountant should know all the tax breaks Obama has given the middle class and that may be an opportunity for discussion, but I need to prepare myself.
Typical example of a person who votes against their own interests because of preconceived notions about the other party. It’s astonishing that an accountant doesn’t fully understand the breadth of tax breaks PBO has provided. Please try to educate her.
A tax accountant who HATES taxes? If it weren’t tragic it would be funny. I am a tax auditor, going after businesses who don’t pay enough taxes or over pays. I have fellow auditors who also HATES taxes. I tell them if it were for taxes, they’d be out of a good paying government job. Crickets is all I hear after that.
Let her know that taxes are the lowest in decades under Obama and congratulate her if she is making that much money that she’s afraid of taxes.
57and Female, why “”most definitely”” not Obama? Could it be the color of Obama’s skin?
What other reason, when there’s none given, right?
She hates all Democrats in office or running for office. She perceives Obama as a crazy-eyed liberal, notwithstanding any facts to the contrary. Of my accountant’s many deluded beliefs I can honestly say that racism is not one of them.
I must ask her why she thinks Obama has ruined the country but I have to be prepared for the Rush Limbaugh lies that will come out of her mouth. I want to be prepared with sites and facts and not just call her a liar (which is why I didn’t engage yesterday).
People that bitch about taxes, IMO are people that tend to focus on the me, not the us, in their experience as Americans. I know it is a generalization. She may hate taxes because our tax code is so ridiculously voluminous. We bemoan taxes so easily, without thinking about the services they support, and the benefit they bring to our lives.
I don’t like tax day, not because I don’t want to pay my taxes, but because I am usually worried that I have made a mistake in my preparations. I definitely support a rework and simplification of our tax code. But after 2 house fires, and several calls to paramedics for emergency medical situations, or roads that require constant maintenance, or a national park visited, or safe air travel, or elderly being served, and children being schooled…..et, al..why would I complain about having to pay taxes. How our tax dollars are spent deserves our attention….and right now I can point to an enormous waste of tax payer dollars in the salaries and benefits of some of our elected representatives. Case in point not attending tonight’s joint session. Jim DeMint, Joe Walsh, David Vitter, America deserves their monies BACK…..punks.
” How our tax dollars are spent”
This is the key, Sue. If we paid no taxes, there’d be no revenues for government to exist. Also, I have never in my life voted for my own personal best interest, but in the interest of the entire city, state, country. What goes on in any of these venues, affects me and mine, so naturally I want the best for everyone.
That’s it, exactly. My husband’s stockbroker friend — the most selfish man I’ve ever met. He expects good roads, all the amenities that money can buy. He expects all of the infrastructure to be there but gives no thought about who should pay for it and assure that it will be there for everyone.
But if he can keep a few dollars more in his bulging pocket, he doesn’t care about the consequences to anyone else.
I remember being a captive audience in the dental chair getting my teeth cleaned by my hygenist as she lectured me on how bad Obama was. She knew I had just returned from his inauguration. I was wondering if I had put myself in a precarious position at that moment. LOL
Being an American is a group orientation. We are always responsible for our selves as individuals, but our relationship to a broader community reuqires us to think of ourselves as the whole. We have to concern ourselves with social costs and impacts they are part of the equation, they are real. It is about US.
I’m curious as to how things are going in the Colorado community that turned off the street lights, drastically cut emergency response and police services, where the people in the community are mowing the city parks, and I suppose removing the snow. Moritorium on taxes…hope no one dies waiting to pulled from a car wreck, or watches a house burn to the ground.
Gosh I wonder what information she was basing BAD on! Especially since he had just entered office.
On my most recent trip to the Dentist, my brother warned me to keep my mouth shut about politics. I love my Dentist, and he started to go there so I told him I didn’t want to hurt our otherwise lovely relationship by finding out I hated his politics…HAH!
Good morning everyone. I can’t wait to hear the President’s speech tonight. I’m done class at 3:30 pm, gonna do homework, then get my snacks together.
This morning in my technical Pre-Law writing class the lecturer, who is a Senior lawyer for the Dept. of Justice, spoke highly of PBO’s intelligence. She talked about how no matter who is in the room with him in these important meetings (whether it’s Boehner or whoever) that PBO is easily the smartest person in the room. That comment actually made me smile on this ugly, rainy day in D.C. I trust him with all my heart and I know GOD is protecting him in these tough times.
Have a perfect day family.
OMG!!!! That’s awesome Kay!!!!
Your comment made me smile and gave me goosebumps. Thanks Collegekay!
Awesome, Kay!! I saw your tweet about being in class for 4 hours today. My only advice to you is, SOAK IT UP. You’re a smart woman and we want to see you achieve your fullest potential and all your dreams. [Full disclosure: worked in higher ed mostly as academic advisor for years. Just completed a consulting gig that was a 5 year longitudinal study on minority retention. HANG IN THERE!!]
Thanks meta. I’ve come to far to stop now. 😉
I just want to say it is a privilege to be amongst so many smart and thoughful people. I feel like I am always learning from this community.
So thanks to all you brainiacs!
We’ll watch the speech on a network to boost ratings, and then turn it off when the incompetent talking heads come on. Thanks for the report on the morning shows! Our TV doesn’t even go on until evening news.
That’s what I thought, carolyn. We need the audience counted for this event. C-Span to me is safest.
Perry Supporters Seek To Re-write History, Claim He Never Worked For Gore
Gov. Perry’s supporters are fighting back in a novel way against their candidates job history, seeking to deny outright that he ever served as Gore’s Texas campaign chair. In a PolitiFact posting on Weds, Texas political journalist W. Gardner Selby concluded that it was merely “half-true” that Perry had played a prominent role in Gore’s 1988 campaign. Selby reached that conclusion after speaking to ‘political players in Texas and Tennessee.’ One former Gore press operative claimed that the campaign ‘didn’t have a chairman in Texas.’
The Gore issue has begun causing the Perry campaign quite a bit of trouble of late, especially given the GOP base’s hatred toward the former V.P. and his progressive global warming agenda. On stage at last nights debate, Perry was one of the more vocal deniers of climate change.

He’s such a nonentity, but he does so much damage.
I’m just hoping for 20M viewers – anything more will be cake.
I’ll be there too.
OMG, I just saw this RT from Vitter. DISGUSTING.
Typical Harry Reid. He’s now schdld votes that should’ve been this morn 4 right b4 & right AFTER prez’s speech. Pens me in 2 have 2 stay.
@DavidVitter PRIORITIES. It’s called DOING YOUR JOB. #GOPFAIL
He wanted to have a football party. My heart bleeds for these idiots.
I tweeted him something similar, meta. I hate to go there, but maybe he needs to be reminded of his diaper sessions.
jacksonjk Jill Jackson
@speakerboehner says he encouraged members not to boycott Obama’s speech. Says “we ought to be respectful and we ought to welcome him.”
I don’t freaking believe this. He encouraged members not to boycott the POTUS’s speech???
After the tantrum he threw with speechgate, he suddenly wants to talk about being respectful and not boycott PBO’s speech. Asshat.
Those idiots don’t know what respect is, specially for a black man. Oh yes, Boehner’s lying.
After the Republican debate he realized that President Obama will be a two termer so he is goimg to try and save his speakership.
Quite possibly you are correct 😀
Well we all know how much influence Speaker In Name Only John Boehner has over his caucus. But the very fact that he has to make such a request of his members is outrageous. And again here is something coming from the Republican party that is “UNPRECEDENTED”.
President Obama has Tan Man Rusty right where he wants him, now you have Rusty trying to channel PBO and attempting to be “bipartisan.”
Won’t work, too many people know the kind of snake Rusty is, and that he is NOT to be trusted. He’s desperate to save his image, and steal the President’s thunder, especially after PBO’s successful Labor Day speech, and in advance of PBO’s speech on the 10 year anniversary of 911. PBO has the Republicans running scared, yet the professional left continue to focus on him “caving/capitulating” on DateGate, and they’ll whine about him “caving/capitulating” on jobs.
How about they ought to do their jobs! We are paying these egotistical jackwagons……get to work!
Exactly, they have been on a five week recess and now they are complaining about when votes are scheduled and attending a joint session of congress. That’s their job as legislators.
One thing I more than half expect tonight, in a blatant show of disrespect for POTUS and for the American people- is for GOP members to walk out of the speech.. either en masse or a few throughout.. I do believe there will be some mass show of disrespect, disruption to take folks eyes off the ball tonight – which is POTUS once again being the one who is taking action on our behalf. Another Joe Wilson moment perhaps to keep the media inspired to talk only of this rather than the actual plan. And those that do talk about the plan: such as possibly the PL- they’ll attack it for not being sufficient, too small, etc.
It would be political suicide if they did that. I hope they do.
I don’t think there will be disruption. Republicans know that americans have awaken to their bad behaviour. There won’t be another “you lie” incident tonight. However, I won’t be suprised if Bohner tries some trick to delay the speech; the timing is important tonight re. the football game…
Boehner must have been hit really hard and accused of disrespect to the President after his unprecedented move to refuse to allow the President to speak on the day he requested. Now he is trying to make up for the disrespect by making sure his caucus shows up and is respectful. Any childish behavior by the TPers will make him look really badQ
I’m trying not to put to much energy into that thought, but confess the thought is there. Will the bullies behave…..if they don’t America will need to be clear about the legitimate ownership of the bad behavior. It won’t be the President’s responsibility or burden.
I notice that the White House is using the hashtag: #JobsNow
Sounds good to me.
The 1st meeting of the super committee is live now:
There’s a disruption now! Sounds like a big demonstration going on outside, people shouting JOBS!!! NOW!!!!
Repubs look super perturbed. They won’t stop!!
I don’t think that CBS will show the president’s speech. According to my directv guide they will not show it. What’s wrong with CBS?
Yes CBS will be showing it. I see that it’s scheduled for this evening my actual television program (7:00-7:30PM).
Sometimes the printed TV Guides are not reliable sources for live programming because these program guides are written up well in advance of the when the decisions of day/time for the live speeches are made.
Wrongful Execution Claims Resurface After Perry’s Embrace of Executions In Debate
The former chairman of the Texas Forensic Science Commission spoke out on Wednesday, alleging that Perry had him replaced after he got into a confrontation with the governor’s aides while reviewing evidence in a case of possible wrongful execution. Sam Bassett headed the investigation into the 2004 execution of Cameron Todd Willingham, whose murder conviction rested on testimony that arson experts call ‘outdated’ and ‘incorrect.’ After Bassett was replaced, his successor halted the investigation, citing the same concerns as Perry’s aides had.
Without referring specifically to the Willingham case, moderator Brian Williams asked Gov. Perry if he had ever struggled with the idea that someone who was killed via capital punishment was innocent. Perry responded ‘No, sir. I’ve never struggled with that at all’ and proceeded to defend the ‘thoughtful’ and ‘clear process’ that Texas goes through before carrying out capital punishment.

Good MORNING TOD
so good to hear all the activity about the debate last night and the speech tonight.
I have a mish mash of comments from earlier threads.
First – about Cantor having a public event since the President is coming to his area. Yipee. That makes him a target, he has been hiding from his constituents the entire break, if he has an event – protestors will come.
The American Dream movement has taken several steps to combat Cantor.
Here is a video of a protest outside the private meeting he held in a hotel, this is just a warm up for what will happen if he holds public events in Virginia. if you live in this area or can drive there, get involved in this event. for those of you who don’t like MovOn, I understand, but atttending a rally to birdog a Republican is something you can do to support the President. then if you start getting MoveOn email you don’t like, just delete it . When it comes to protests, the more boots on the ground the better.
Protest Outside Eric Cantor’s Advisory Meeting
I agree….take the good, and discard the bad. Their petition drives are worthy many times of our support. I cancelled their e-mails, but still check their website for what issues are being supported and organized around.
Call to action
We need to be ready to send positive feedback about the Presidents remarks during and after the speech. We can also apply pressure to TV stations that did not cover it and give praise to those who did. Although some on this blog seem disappointed that the plan is not big enough. I am thrilled with it.
this is almost half as large as the original stimulus which did a great deal of good. It will provide infrastructure jobs, give middle class folks a payroll tax break, protect the unemployed, and I think there is something that prevents layoffs for teachers.
So all you brilliant folks out there, lets start early coming up with tweets or comments we can use to support the President.
The current meme is “no new ideas”, so what, Infrastructure jobs worked in FDRs time and they will work again in our time.
Also we need to continue to seek out local news resources. In my area the local news is on a 7-9am, at noon and 5-7pm. National news is on for 30 minutes a day. My local news always covers stories about national events. So lets go look up resources in your area.
Here is what we have so far.
I am off to school and an OFA phone banking for the candidate in Nevada. See you all very late tonight.
Unfinished business is my response to no new ideas. The Congress has not addressed with purpose these “old ideas”….time to roll up take their jobs seriously and get to work. No more obstruction.
Have a great day Linda, thanks for your enormous energy and positive direction.
thanks WIW I’ll climb aboard the Twitterbus when comes by me this eve!
Obama’s left critics have been shouting for a WPA FDR style program. Anyone calling for that has no right to be saying that Obama has no new ideas.
I believe people will watch POTUS speech regardless of time, as some may have been concerned. My local ABC affiliate has been plugging the speech which is scheduled to air 6 p.m. CST.
My son play JV football and plays on Thursday, which his game is at 5:30, so I will miss the speech, GRRRRRR!!
