suskind’s selective editing…

Washington Post: …..One of the most striking quotes in the book came from former White House communications director Anita Dunn, who was quoted as saying that:

“……this place would be in court for a hostile workplace. . . . Because it actually fit all of the classic legal requirements for a genuinely hostile workplace to women.”

Dunn says she was quoted out of context and told The Post on Friday that she told Suskind “point blank” that the White House was not a hostile work environment.

On Monday, Suskind allowed a Post reporter to review a recorded excerpt of the original interview, which took place over the telephone in April. In that conversation, Dunn is heard telling Suskind about a conversation she had with Jarrett:

“I remember once I told Valerie that, I said if it weren’t for the president, this place would be in court for a hostile workplace,” Dunn is heard telling Suskind…..

Kevin Drum: …. there’s a striking mismatch between what Ron Suskind heard and what he reported in his book …. This doesn’t necessarily change the substance of the charge about the White House atmosphere – though it might, depending on what Dunn meant – but it definitely changes what it suggests about Obama himself. Why on earth did Suskind leave that bit out? It’s only eight words, and it’s not as if he was short on space.

John Stewart hasn’t been the same since Anthony Weiner was caught with his pants down. Seems like he has been taking it out on the President like its his fault.

You think he head got too big to report the truth or does he think bashing President Obama will garner him some ratings gold? Either way its sad to see.

Stewart hasn’t been the same since he begin to believe all the hype about him, he think more of his self then he should. After all he is just a comedian, a joke which isn’t funny.

      • September 21, 2011 at 6:54 pm

It was way before Weiner. Way before.

Jon Stewart has been a non-stop Obama basher since right after the inauguration. He should be boycotted just as daily kos should be — he is not friend of progressive causes. He even spent an episode berating Newsweek magazine for using an uncomplimentary photograph of Michelle Bachmann on its cover – the photo caught her eyes looking just slightly crazed, which just happened to be a very characteristic look. He spent another recent night rating about Solyndra, working off pure Republican talking points and characterizing President Obama has corrupt. The guy sucks — he is not even vaguely funny any more. Dollars-to-donuts he is one of those rotten libertarians like Bill Maher or Markos Moulitsas or Daniel Choi.

If you think in your heart the worst of people,, your heart usually will speak it through your mouth.”Out of the heart the mouth speaketh.”Amen, and Amen. We are movinc on, because why would PBO even go down that road. He can’t see and hear every conversation that is being spoken between people who work for him, but we surely know from his actions that women being treated unfairly in his presence is not the case. Slime books and slime people are not to be given the time of day or their slime books to be read for sure. “No weapon formed against him will prosper.”

It’s real simple. It’s all about the dinero and future name recognition. Anybody, i mean anybody that writes a book about this administration or anything connected to it is looking to make some $$. And the media is helping this jackass by giving him face time on all the nets.
    He’s lower than whale shit!

ANN CURRY of the Today Show interviewed Ron Suskind the author of “Confidence Men” and I was shocked, shocked that she actually challenged him on many inaccuracies. You never see this kind of push back on the Today Show. This was really refreshing. It looks like Ann did her homework and was very prepared. It’s the difference between letting an author or politician come on and just spout talking points. Ann was trying to get to the facts. That is so rare.

Fair warning, the lead in to this segment begins with Chuck Tocd. Sorry…..

I have said I thought she did a decent job too. I am used to no pushback, so any questioning of the book’s claims was welcome. Those 6 words which were omitted—-“if it weren’t for the president”— tells you all you need to know on what kind of book Suskind set out to write. It wasn’t about telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but.

Exactly, the fact that Ann Curry got the point out about the omitted words on the Today Show with Ron Suskind sitting right there was just astonishing. Omitting those words was sleazy and dishonest.

        • September 21, 2011 at 8:17 pm

I’m shocked just reading about here on TOD! We’ve been so inured to faulty reporting and reporters not asking questions of President Obama bashers but pounding Obama and Carney to pieces..that something like this is unheard of!

          Thanks for the news, ya’ll!

Thanks for providing this link Ladyhawke.

Ann Curry did a marvellous job. This is how you deal with peddlers of falsehood. I was almost pitying the fool by the end of the interview. I don’t see how anyone will buy the book after seeing this interview. It is clear from his defence and more importantly his body language that he lied in the book.

      What a tool!

I tried to write an email to the Today Show commending Ann Curry for her interview but got a message about the location having problems with security. Anyone else email to thank her? I figure if we write to complain we should write to commend too.

Hi Marcia, I think the fact that you’re a supporter of the Arizona Tea Party ‘Patriots’ says all we need to know. And the fact that you’re a fan of Glenn Beck, Fox News and Michele Bachmann suggests … well …. you’re not very smart.

Take your bigotry elsewhere Marcia, you’re not welcome here 😉
