Chris Hayes is plugging glen greenwalds new book this morning.
His panel has been only discussing his new libertarian book now, for an hour.
You just can’t make this shit up!
I clicked on, saw GG, clicked off.
Chipsticks wake up wake up WAKE UP!!!!!!! Glen Greenwald Mr. Cato Institute is in America and he’s on the Chris Hayes show!!!! He’s getting massive pushback on twitter because he finally surfaced from Brazil to peddle a book. But weirdly, he’s not the most annoying person on the panel. Christopher Dickey of the Daily Beast/Newsweek is so frustrating. He’s a rich white liberal who has the wonderful option like Greenwald of living in Europe and then he comes on the Chris Hayes show to say that the people PBO has problems with is not everyday Americans but his rich white liberal friends who hate President Obama. That’s what he said. That they hate PBO, that he’s a huge disappointment, that he wasn’t the messiah they thought he was, that what he’s doing is rolling out mortgage and student loan refinance programs for regular people and he’s not doing anything for them. Are you freaking kidding me? His friends are wealthy white liberals who have the option of owning multiple homes all around the world and living a very very comfortable life and they want to blame PBO for helping regular middleclass and working class people? Just disgusting filth. Thank goodness Karen Hunter is on the panel today. She struck back at him forcefully and told him to examine his values if he’s hanging out with people like that.
Rich white liberal friends that hate Obama- like Donnie duetch?
Donnie DOUCHE. I fixed it.
That MF donnie douche bag was on morning joke (9-28-11) and said he gave a small party for Barack Obama. I want to assume as a candidate for President and he said Barack Obama was not comfortable with the small group.. Eugene Robinson spoke up and said that is not true and said he is very comfortable in small groups. Well IMO I think President Obama sensed Donnie had bull shit friends and was just going to be cordial no more no less….
that doesn’t surprise me
They don’t impress me as being liberal if all they can think about is their own selfish needs and expectations. Jesus was a Liberal. Someone needs to school that self absorbed jerk.
First of all, how does he know this? Has he done a comprehensive survey, or, is he just shooting off his mouth because he feels like that? Of course, it’s the latter. The fact that he would even use the world “messianic” shows how out of touch he is. If you want a messiah for president, you are smoking something or you are very sick.
Second, whether he intends it or not, he’s serving as a stealth promoter of the president. He’s saying to anyone watching his program who is not a white elitist millionaire that the president is on your side. Works for me.
Thanks for the heads up UT..let me check the Twitterz and see what’s going on!
this Dickey person ( name fits him as he sounds like an arrogant and out of touch dick) has a lot of gall to complain like that😯
But isn’t what he said a good thing? Did he say it in a way that was regretful as in he’s embarrassed he has friends like that? Or did he say it in a smarmy and entitled way?
Hiya gobrooklyn. He said it in a smarmy and entitled way. He said he agrees with his friends. He wasn’t embarassed by what they were saying at all. That’s why Karen pushed back. Even Chris looked at him like dude who the heck are you hanging out with.
Someone on that panel this a.m. said “Maybe you should change your friends.” That Chris puts on a good program, with facts.
lord have mercy. Straight up Limosine Liberals.
Someone needs to make a campaign commercial out of what he said then:) Selfish, out of touch ass.
utaustinliberal, the comments from the rich white liberal makes no sense at all. First of all there is only one messiah, and his name is Jesus Christ. Barack Obama never promise anyone that he was some messiah, that he was going to fix every problem in this world. Seem to me the question need to be ask who has the problem, who really are the disappointment here. Barack Obama or these rich white liberals friends this guy is talking about. As you said utaustinliberal, these people sitting up there on the mountain top, living whatever kind of life they want, affording to buy whatever they need or want, and they are going to complain, when this President is fighting to get this economy out of the worst disaster since the great depression. When we have people out there losing everything they work so hard for, or fighting just to hold onto what they work for, excuse me but I don’t want to hear the B.S coming from that guy or his liberal rich white friends, and that surely includes that Greenwald bastard also.
Ut, It seems as though Mr. Dickey is agreeing with the article written by Melissa Harris-Perry a few weeks ago (I wonder if he read it). She was universally scorned, mocked and criticized by the white liberal elite for implying that their unfair and unending criticism of PBO may be rooted in racism. She added that the presidency of PBO has not been sufficiently salvific for many white liberals. I had never heard the term before but have since discovered it means of or pertaining to the power of salvation or redemption which perfectly dovetails into Mr. Dickey’s claim that PBO is not the messiah they thought he was. These people need help.
Someone please tell me what is it that PBO is supposed to be doing for rich, white, liberals? What are their issues that they feel PBO has not addressed and why do they think they should come before the poor and the middle class who need PBO’s attention far more than they do?
Pardon my ignorance, but I would think being rich and white in America would engender a whole lot less bitching and whining.
Morning all. happy Birthday HZ, have a great day.
Someone needs to remind these nitwits that they last time people had a messiah (not one they imagined) he was killed.
That’s how human nature is. These white liberals elite are really clueless and worse ,destructive.
Thanks Criquet. I will. Love your energy.HZ
Happy Birthday, HZ! May you have a wonderful day.
Thanks so much Proud of Obama. May your day be a lovely one as well.HZ
Love you HZ….Gratulerer med dagen! Today we celebrate you, you are truly a gift to the world.

Happy Birthday HZ – hope you enjoy all 24 hrs of your day!!
Thanks Hopefruit2, I will.HZ
WASHINGTON — Turns out, the White House did not get egged.
Trick-or-treaters marched up the White House driveway on a wet, snowy Saturday, past the spider web-like gauze, the pumpkins and the costumed actors to the mansion’s north portico where President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama handed out treats, an annual tradition.
“What’s this? Look at this guy,” the president said at the sight of one costumed child. “A headless man. Terrifying!”
And yes, the sweets included signature boxes of White House M&Ms, signaling a temporary respite from the first lady’s healthy eating campaign. Dried fruit and White House baked cookies rounded out the handouts.
Earlier this week, in an appearance on the “Tonight Show,” Obama joked to host Jay Leno that he had warned his wife that if she wanted to avoid Halloween mischief she might want to dole out more than just fruit and raisins.
“I told her the White House is going to get egged if this keeps up,” he said, suggesting that she might want to add “a couple of Reese’s Pieces or something.”
Happy Birthday HZ you are such a special person! I hope you have a wonderful day!
Thank you Mtmarilyn. You are so kind and beautiful. Thanks so much,HZ
Christopher Dickey of The Daily Beast/Newsweek is an example of a clueless wealthy emoprog. He has the means of living in Europe in an exclusive surburb and he’s so removed from reality. On up with Chris Hayes he tried to tell Karen Hunter; an African-American professor and MSNBC contributor that cops don’t practice racial bias against minorities and especially against Black people. Are you effing kidding me? When cops see black people in a rich upscale neighborhood they are more likely to stop and question them as though they can’t afford to live in said neighborhood. When cops see black people on the streets they’re more likely to stop and frisk them based on some stupid pre-judgement. What the heck were people protesting against in NY about a week or so ago? Stop and Frisk! What the heck does Dickey think Driving While Black is? Fun and giggles?🙄 Thank goodness Karen Hunter is on the panel today to shove back against the pile of CRAP spewing forth from Dickey’s mouth.
Karen Hunter (very surprisingly) has been the only one defending President Obama 100%. The table is full of supposedly four educated liberals. Karen Hunter, Christopher Dickey, Glen Greenwald, and Maria Teresa Kumar and only one has a brain. Dickey tried to imply over and over again that PBO has lost huge numbers of liberals. Thankfully Chris finally pushed back and said no, actually PBO is polling very very high with self-identified liberals. Dickey and Greenwald then tried to imply that PBO was over projecting GOP obstruction and the “We Can’t Wait” is such a cynical political tool and it’s doing no good. Karen was like I’ve had enough. She told them that they were all excusing the massive obstruction by the GOP from day one of the Obama Presidency. That on the one hand they were all whining and telling PBO to fight back. He’s always been fighting and now that it’s being covered by the media, they’re complaining that PBO is looking like the mean person against the poor poor republicans. That his new set of executive orders are cynical. She told them that she knows people who’ve benefited and are going to benefit from PBO’s former mortgage re-modification program, this new mortgage re-modification program and the student loan modification program. She said that those people aren’t saying PBO is mean, they’re thanking him for bypassing a do nothing congress to help them. They’re sinking and the republicans wouldn’t do a thing to help them and PBO is the only one who is helping them, so the panel have no leg to stand on calling PBO’s plans cynical. Karen has been amazing. She’s been calling out liberals for not having PBO’s back and calling out republicans for being whiners. She pushed back against Greenwald for his crap piece of trash book he’s peddling, blaming PBO for using drones to kill terrorists. They are TERRORISTS! I’m not going to feel sorry that OBL is dead. I’m not going to feel sorry that Anwar Al-Awlaki is dead. Cry me a freaking river! Karen pushed back against him and told him to stop peddling a false equivalency comparison by equating PBO to GWB. She also read him twitter messages where people were pushing back againt Greenwald and calling him an opportunist. Awesome!
If anyone wants to send Karen some thanks because she has been a one woman defender of PBO and his accomplishments, her twitter handle is @karenhunter.
That is because Chris Hayes was covering GG today, and that libertarian book.
Chris Hayes must have stats that say only daily Kia and FDL people watch his show.
I find it odd that Ron Paul supporters like GG and Jane Hamster, can call themselves liberals. Does the far left and far right overlap?
Btw”” your comment is spot on UT.
Excellent summary UT…..I missed the program, but I’m going off to show some love to @karenhunter. Thanks.
Thank you utaustinliberal, for your account of what Ms Hunter said. I wish I were able to contact her and thank her for using the common sense the good Lord gave her. It’s clear the rest of the panel have lost any they might have had. I’m sorry but I’m not going to cry because these terrorists are kill. If I’m wrong then I know the real true messiah I can ask for forgiveness, and it ain’t Barack Obama.
Let me wish HZ a happy Birthday also. Bless you.
Thank you Anniebella. HZ
Thanks for sharing this, UT. I am glad Karen Hunter was there to set the record straight. All these attacks on the President are so incoherent and laughable. The PL attack him for being a corporatist who is only interested in helping the “oligarchy.”. Now the rich “oligarchs” are attacking him for not taking care of their needs, whatever those needs are. The so called “bold” progressives attacked him for not fighting the Republicans, but now their hero, GG and the media are attacking him for being mean to the Republicans. The right wingers attack him for not aggressively fighting terrorism, but the so called lefties are now attacking him for going after and eliminating terrorists. Why not come clean and say exactly why they really hate this most compassionate, inclusive, and hard working president in my lifetime? Could the real reason be that they are unhappy and uncomfortable with having “a smart colored guy” in the White House?
Mission accomplished banner. .
This is so vile. . . Apologies if this offends. . .
Before I do anything else, I want to wish you a very, very ,very Happy Birthday, HZ!!! You know that I think the world of you. You are an angel on this earth! ***********found this gem************
Barack Obama’s re-election hopes are a numbers nightmare: 9.1 percent unemployment, increasingly negative job-approval ratings and a gap in enthusiasm between Republican and Democratic voters.
But mention the data to the Obama campaign’s political director, Katherine Archuleta, and she’ll counter with a set of figures of her own: One on one.
That’s the buzzword and guide-star of the campaign, which is organizing itself, volunteer by volunteer and neighborhood by neighborhood, in a subtle word-of-mouth effort that, Democrats hope, could surprise Republicans next year.
“This campaign is based on one-on-one relationships. And that’s something the president is very adamant about and it’s really based on his work in communities in Chicago,” Archuleta said. “We’re reaching out. Not on a general basis, but on a one-to-one basis.”
Since April, the campaign says, it has contacted 350,000 Floridians by knocking on their doors or calling them. It has recruited 8,500 active volunteers in the state, and overseen 1,891 volunteer-driven events such as phone banks, neighborhood walks and house parties.
All of it was made possible by about 3,000 one-on-one meetings between campaign staffers, community leaders, volunteers and neighbors in the state.
Meantime, the Chicago-based campaign has been assembling and dissecting data in a sophisticated, well-funded operation. It’s also making a strong play for the Hispanic vote, which is growing more crucial by the election and which Archuleta, who has Latina roots, implicitly understands.
I really like that. It could also characterize the fact that the election has to be between PBO and an actual GOP opponent. They can talk theories, scenarios, and the Generic Republican all they like, but the election will be One on One — the President vs. an actual republican candidate.
I just watched MTP david Plouffe was on fired he was amazing he made David Gregory look like a
pice of CACA trying to use the GOP talking points, but David Plouffe was not bying.
Thanks jovie for the link. However I have to comment that I can’t stand it when these supposedly “positive” articles about our President have to start out with the false MSM memes of his “increasingly negative job approval numbers and the enthusiasm gap” between Democrats and Republicans.
All indicators point to a huge enthusiasm problem among Republicans..Golden boy Mitt Romney, a well-known perpetual presidential candidate, cannot even consistently get 30% in the polls. Every month there is a “new flavor” on the GOP block that plummets when his/her time is up. Up to 80% of GOP voters still cannot decide who should be the nominee less than 3 months from the first primary. On the other hand, poll after poll has shown that PBO’s true base, AAs, Hispanics, Jews, LGBTs, are SOLIDLY behind him, with at least 70% of Democrats endorsing his re-election in 2012, compared to 57% for Bill Clinton in back 1995.
The MSM push poll numbers of weak job approvals and “disappointed base” narratives do not comport with the realities on the ground (e.g., the reaction from the crowds when the president is on the road, the enthusiasm among OFA volunteers and other pro-Obama grassroots organizations), the number of new campaign donors, the amounts raised, the boost in ratings whenever he goes on TV shows, the fact that huge numbers of people tune in whenever he makes a speech, etc…
The media is soooo desperate to undermine this president that they are now pushing ridiculous meaningless polls about Hillary Clinton (who happens to be working for the same President and who’s approvals rose as a result of being in the current position that she is); Tweety is now pushing his trite dead President nostalgia, after his constant pimping of St. Ronnie, he’s now on to JFK. Excuse me? The last time I checked, Obama will not be running against JFK in 2012 (and he would probably win anyway knowing what we now know about JFK). PBO most likely will be running against Cain, Perry or Romney. Where is the MSM scrutiny of these three candidates, not to mention the civil war going on the GOP party right now (see George Will article)?
Jack Kennedy had his father who shielded jack and protected him.
He also bought west Virginia for him.
I love jack, but he had a lot of help from daddy and the rat pack!!!
Yikes, Ct. daughter just called, completely snowed in, no power, expected to be out for days, trees down all over the place, roads not plowed, freezing in house, have 2 little kids, no internet etc., looking for hotel/motel, all are sold out/have no power. A big mess in Ct.
OMG! Where does she live? I better call my family and friends (if I can) and see if they’re ok. Heard that the Litchfield Hills area was supposed to get the most…does she live up north? My family is on the shoreline….they usually get less snow there. Hope everyone is ok…and power gets up and running soon.
They’re in West Hartford. All their close motels are without power also, but she now thinks she has a room at a downtown Hartford hotel, downtown has power. The problem will be gettng there as trees are down all over the roads. Husband will likely stay behind to bail out lower level, sump pump not in operation of course. Neighborhood school cancelled for tomorrow and kids are very sad because it was Halloween party day.
Dotster3 and Desertflower, I will keep you and your families in my prayers today. We will think and ask for protection and provisions for all of them.HZ
Dotser3 I hope your sister and family can be safe while power is being restored. I can just imagine how disappointed the kids are about the party!! I have a relative who lives closer to Stamford CT so they didn’t get hit as hard as those in Hartford.
Thanks everyone for good thoughts. My daughter told the kids they could bring their Halloween costumes to the hotel and trick or treat there——-I doubt whether too many hotel guests are going to be ready with bags of candy though. Maybe their neighborhood can schedule another trick or treat day when all gets back to normal.
Yuk,dotster…doesn’t sound good.
http://www.courant.com/news/weather/hc-october-snowstorm-20111028,0,3272321.story The only saving grace is, that so many people have wood stoves. We heated our entire house with the wood stove…pain in the neck, but when the power went out, we were very grateful to have it!
They are without a wood stove. They’ve been told to expect to be without power for at least a week. Wow.
Been there, done that. It’s awful. One year during a hurricane, we were without power for over a week. Power crews came in from other states and Canada to get things up and running again. At first, it was adventurous, then it got to be a real pain in the neck…REAL FAST! Different when you have little kids…hope they are ok and get power restored very soon. Should think about a wood stove:)…there WILL be a “next time” for storms like this…only a matter of time.
I’ve felt this way FOR YEARS!
Good morning TODville and a very special shout-out to HZ. VERY Happy Birthday to you!! You are so gracious and have such a warm spirit and gentle heart and razor sharp intelligence. We are so much the better for your presence here. I send you a bouquet of the freshest flowers and a big hug of gratitude. Make this day special for yourself.
Meta, what generous and very kind words. Thank you so much for them. I love flowers, so I will take them in like they were just delivered from you to me. Thank you so much.HZ
Obama deserves credit for strong growth in energy industry
As Republican presidential candidates like Gov. Rick Perry tout their energy plans, they would do well to study our best energy president in decades: President Obama.
Nice article. Thanks Meta for sharing it. I’ve tweeted it already – and already I see it gaining ground in twitterverse. Perry and Romney will never stop telling lies about PBO’s energy policies and the achievements he’s made in this important department….and they’re being enabled by the stupid MSM,who will never call them out on their BS.
Thank you, Uche. I love our twitter brigade.
I love to garden and am always looking for encouraging stories about food and gardens.
BrightFarms CEO Paul Lightfoot Wants To Grow Lettuce On Your Roof
Heads up for anybody looking to raise their blood pressure this morning–Chris Matthews has assembled a nice group of worthless Washington pundits to sit around and complain that President Obama is nowhere near as good as Jack Kennedy because he hasn’t asked Americans to sacrifice, he doesn’t inspire people with good speeches, and nobody knows what he really wants to do. It’s on his syndicated weekend blab-fest. Don’t miss out.
Isn’t Tweety needed back on the Sesame Street set? I would just like these morons to live in the present
The Chris Matthews show comes on early in my neck of the woods and he was INFRURIATING! I’ve never watched anyone with so massive an ego and so full of themselves. It was disgusting. Bob Woodward, Andrea Mitchell, Katy Kay, and John Heilemann were all there to kiss his ass and suck up to him and his worthless piece of trash book so hard, I was shocked they didn’t have imprints of Chris’s gluteus maximus tatooed on their faces. He wrote that book to simply use it as another tool to bash President Obama and to point out how “incompetent” PBO looks next to Clinton and now Kennedy. Kennedy was a great American and a good President no doubt about that. But fer chrissakes the man died in his prime and so people over project who he actually was and make him out to be some kind of elusive messiah. You put up a ghost next to a real flesh and blood human being and whine and whine about how that human falls short. In Chris’s blinkered eye, PBO will always fall short because he’s not some resurrection of who Chris imagines Kennedy was. Kennedy could have learned a lot about domestic and foreign policy issues from PBO. Kennedy never had to face the level of obstruction PBO faces every waking moment. Kennedy never accomplished the HUGE amount of historic legislation PBO has achieved. Bob and Heilemann all stroked Chris’s feather and sent a tingle up his legs after he said they were the only politicos who knew the essence of PBO; who knew the core of the man. Are you freaking kidding me? So FL Michelle Obama doesn’t know the essence of her husband and father of her children? Bob and Heilemann kept saying that PBO had no emotional connection to anyone. That he should learn a lesson from Clinton and Kennedy on how to connect with regular people around the world. That PBO is too much of a Constitutional lawyer and professor. Where have they been since day one of this administration? All of them are complete morons. Complete and utter morons.
If anyone wants to send some much needed truth to Chris Matthews and John Heilemann, their twitter handles are @hardball_chris and @jheil.
So why the fark do more people like the person that his policies—morons.
The man (the prez) than* his policies….and I still stand by “morons” lol
I never saw President Kennedy go on bus tours to speak with ordinary Americans.
I never saw him eat lunch or dinner in a restaurant with every day working people.
I never saw him visit backyards to talk with people recovering cancer to talk about healthcare.
I don’t remember him visiting schools to read to children and talk about the importance of finishing school.
I have no recollection of him handing out candy at Halloween or having them on his front lawn to learn about health eating and exercise.
I don’t recall President Kennedy going to an Indian reservation to be inducted into the Crow family.
I don’t recall President Kennedy volunteering at soup kitchens or painting shelters.
I don’t remember him playing basketball at the White House with young children.
I don’t recall President Kennedy sitting at the kitchen tables of Americans throughout the county to listen to their concerns.
I don’t recall him giving away book earnings to charity and prize winnings to college scholarships.
President Kennedy was an interesting man but he did not connect with the American people the way PBO has. NOT EVEN CLOSE.
You can push back on Tweety’s moronic statements without putting down President Kennedy. The two presidents live in two different times with two different realities and set of social norms, so we cannot compare certain aspects. Also, we shouldn’t fall for MSM attempt at creating a wedge among different factions of the Democratic Party.
I am not putting down JFK. I’m pointing out the differences to someone who claims JFK connected with the American people in ways PBO can never hope to do. That’s ludicrous. JFK was a good President. He did good things and his death was a horror I will never forget. But when people are hawking books based on a comparison to PBO, I’m going to fight back with my own.
Thanks for this gem Meta. I’m going to condense it to twitter speak and tweet every line to @hardball_chris.
Go for it! I just did.
I’m following suit.
People loved JFK too, but I have never seen such looks of pure adoration and joy on peoples’ faces as when they are at an Obama event. If that isn’t connecting, I don’t know what is. Matthews is trying to sell his dumb book—–there must be big money in book sales, everyone is trying to jump into that game, even if they have to invent a premise to do it, a la Tweety.
It’s an inherently faulty premise but also one that holds not weight no matter how you slice it. It’s false.
Meta, I concur with you so very much. Thanks for you energies to combat this unnecesarry route that Tweety is taking against POB. There need be no comparison to POB and JFK. I am elated to see your approach to tell Chris of his faulty premise. No time for this type of division. He could just write his book and shut up. Leave POB out of it. But he is making his undesirable money by using a good man’s character, and that is the first thing that is so distasteful to me. Leave POB out of it, Chris.
Thanks Meta. You are on point. Love you.HZ
Happy Birthday, HZ! Being here on the west coast I always come here late. I hope you had a wonderful day filled with love and happiness.
Let me join you in thanking Meta for the excellent comment. I have not read Mathews’ book. Based on what is being reported that he is comparing JFK with President Obama, he is indeed using a “faulty premise.” I also doubt that he made any effort to interview Black folks, like Congressman John Lewis, who were involved in the black freedom struggle during JFK’s presidency, to see their take on JFK. During the famous 1963 March on Washington, John Lewis, then the Chair of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), was going to give a speech denouncing JFK’s policies on Civil Rights which he felt were too little and too late because they were based on political expediency. This almost shuttered the coalition that organized the March. Lewis, mainly at the urging of A. Philip Randolph, softened his speech. Was anyone writing stories that JFK’s base was angry with him, Did Matthews find anything that President Obama has done that is comparable to JFK’s Bay of Pigs disaster? Did Matthews say any thing about JFK’s Vietnam policies which really began the escalation of the war? My point is: Chris Matthews is once again peddling myths instead of true historical reality of JFK Presidency. President Obama is constantly being compared to mythical presidents and not the real presidents whose records have so many holes. Besides, do we really expect Chris Matthews, who displays political shallowness everyday, to write a compelling and analytical book on any President? I know I don’t.
It’ll be interesting to see the life span of all the hastily written ‘books’ being produced in this age. It seems that one does not have to have a coherent message, or writing skills, to be published – at least if you are a politician or have political connections. At the end of this age we’ll probably have a very limited legacy of inspirational or classic works, or even truthful historical summaries. So sad, IMO.
The last democratic president that had similar adulations was JFK and candidate RFK (and before him was FDR). Not since then until President Obama have so many people loved a President and first family. Tweety is catholic and compares the “first” catholic president to the first AA president, but from HIS perspective as a catholic and not from a new generation of americans. Bill Clinton had similar adulation but nothing like PBO which in my opinion is why tweety and Bill are jealous of PBO.
meta, I lift my glass to you. What an awesome response to Tweety. I hope you will send it to him. Also, what other president has had to deal with GOP elected officials who hate him more than they loved the country. I get the loyal opposition crap. But what President Obama has had to deal with unprecedented obstruction and Tweety knows that. Yet he is still trying to make disingenuous comparisons of President Obama with Kennedy and Clinton. And I remember during the Clinton scandal Tweety along with his colleagues were salivating. And now he has found new admiration for Bill Clinton calling him the president of the world.
I am so freaking fed up with everybody trying to get inside President Obama’s head. Every single move he makes and word he utters is under the microscope and has to be analyzed ad nauseum. It’s exhausting. They cover PBO like his administration is a sporting event. It’s outrageous and wrong.
Bottom line, President Obama makes the gasbags, the jackals, and the GOP feel inadequate. In their heart of hearts they know he has a superior intellect. He’s just smarter than they are. They marvel at his leadership and political skills. But they will never admit how jealous they are of his approach to governing and getting things done. He’s a class act and they can’t stand it. So they use the most powerful weapon they have “criticism”. Unfortunately, they have the power to focus on the negative narrative for every story about President Obama. Dealing with the media firewall continues to be a challenge. But the firewall has been breached thanks to blogs like TOD and the tireless efforts of commenters here.
Thank you, Ladyhawke. I agree with every word you said. I’m so grateful we get to learn from you here. You are fierce.
THIS. thank you, Ladyhawke!
Ladyhawke, I totally cosign your excellent comment on a very brilliant piece by Meta!
Thank you Meta. Well said.
META send this remainder to CM and see waht he would say let’s push back I likeD President
Kenney and all the kennedy’s thay allways have been for the underdogs, but CM is very wrong
on this this is the 21st Century NOT the 18thcentury.
I don’t remember him being morally upright, even after marrying Jackie O.
Yes, he was an interesting man. His assassination left a deep scar. However, no comparison to our President Obama.
Bravo, Meta! Matthews like many in the PL and right wingers, is selling mythology instead of real history.
Infuriating is right. We’ve had fifty years of reflection on President Kennedy. NO HUMAN can live up to a memory. There are plenty of good reasons to look to President Kennedy for inspiration, but it is downright shameful to sit around with a group and bash our current president for not being him–especially when they completely ignore most of his achievements while trivializing the few they do acknowledge. I doubt very much these dimwits would be praising JFK if this were October of ’63.
The press will never cease their deep-seated need to infantilize President Obama.
Meta, for a goodly number of us, they will NEVER succeed!
a) So happy we have found each other HERE at TOD!
b) Happy also to know there are other similar enclaves of people who are AWARE of the press tactics.
c) Happy to see the number of smart listeners growing exponentially.
d) Happy that we now have some viable means of faster push-back (as opposed to snail mail only)
e) Overjoyed to realize that more and more of us are willing to add the other side to the press dialogue!
What is so infuriating to me is these Washington DC insiders refuse to see what is in front of them. They have preconceived notions of how a President is supposed to loook, think and act. President Obama has shifted that paradigm completely, and they are stridently clinging to old models. Secondly , President Obama does not waste his precious energy on appeasing these self annointed experts…..his energy is devoted to the lives outside this exclusive, self inflated and noxious bubble.
Chris is stuck in a time warp, and his brain is stalled in a ‘glorified’ past. He is no longer relevant IMO.
It seems to me “they” (substitute anyone being critical of PBO be it Right or Left or Pundit) pick a theme that could sound true and stick to it. Oh, “they” deviate from it when current events make it seem implausible but come back to it when they cannot criticize anything else. The Left pats themselves on the back as being impartial and so above partisan politics by bashing PBO, but they are not above spreading false info to prop up their stories. So that is what makes me come closer to the “they are all alike complaints so many give as excuses for not participating in politics and not paying attention to who is actually selling the public out”. I understand the DINO Dems, the whiney Left, the corporate funded Dems and the pushy pundits smear the Democratic party as being in the same category as the sellout Republicans. These Democrats make it hard for us to convince the uninformed voter that all politicians are not the same.
Happy Bday, HZ.
Thank you so much Obama Grandmama.HZ
As soon I saw the beginning of Tweety’s show when he started out with the JFK comparison, I went “click.” He’s going to spend 30 minutes comparing Obama to dead politicians of an era long gone, yet he refuses to do side by side comparisons of current GOP politicians who will be on the ballot come November 2012. That is some damn irresponsible, shoddy “journalism.”
” He’s going to spend 30 minutes comparing Obama to dead politicians of an era long gone, yet he refuses to do side by side comparisons of current GOP politicians who will be on the ballot come November 2012. That is some damn irresponsible, shoddy “journalism.”
Extremely well said, hopefruit! This is the pattern I’ve also noticed. Not only is President Obama not compared with the clueless people running against him, but he is also rarely compared with his immediate predecessors who are still alive. And I include Bill Clinton in that group! All you hear is: Does Obama measure up to FDR, Truman, JFK, LBJ, and the Republican Saint Ronnie Reagan. By the way, as a student of history, I am even not willing to concede that based on their total records, and not just the selective and exaggerated records, purposely invoked to create myths about them, that these dead mythologized Presidents are better than President Obama.
Oh crap. I’m Tweety for Halloween. Seriously, do I HAVE to listen to that BS? Is there something in the water in DC that makes these people morons?
Friends, don’t forget Chris matthews has to sell a book and the only way authors now how to sell is mention President Barack Obama…. So if he can only sell his book by comparing/contstrating JFK with PBO that is what his handlers have told him to do….. Chris why not let the book stand on its own? I don’t believe he can sell the numbers he pitched without using PBO..
The question is what is wrong with the people who are buying these books? What exactly qualifies Matthews as a scholar of Kennedy Presidency? Has he previously published any credible work on President Kennedy’s policies? So far, I’ve not been able to find any reference to his previous published work on President Kennedy.
You know, it’s really offensive to think that he said that Americans haven’t sacrificed. I think that PBO said that most Americans HAVE sacrificed so much of themselves already! They have sacrificed their sons, daughters, husbands, wives, their life savings, their homes, their humility, their worldly possessions, their dreams of college for their children…the list is endless, and mind numbing.
For him, a wealthy blabber mouth with a cushy job, to sit there and ignore the painful plight of America, and blame this on PBO, is offensive and disgusting. That “tingle” up your leg, Chris…is God telling you to STFU and pay attention! If he sends those “tingles” any harder, you’ll need a defibrillator to shock some common sense into you.
Instead, we get this
hahaha!!! Oh that was a good one desertflower. Can somone condense and tweet this? Loved all of it especially ” wealthy blabber mouth…and on from there. When you think about it ,most of these pundits have a way of speaking like they are the 99% and can and do speak for us. Shameless!
Desertflowwer, I think chris is bipolar because he can piss me the hell off when he gets in his pissy mood about the President but he has done some excellent work on Hardball exposing that political fraud mark rubio. So for me personally I never see him sunday show because he guests never appeal to me or his/their commentary…
I disagree Michele. saying that he is “bipolar” gives him an excuse for this ridiculous bad behavior. What he IS, is a bought and paid for shill that wants to sell books and pretends to know all the answers and impart his great “wisdom” of how HE sees things, as if that is enough to make it truth,on the rest of us.
To me, that’s as bad as saying things like “Boys will be boys”. It simply absolves them from having any responsibility for their bad behavior. Not buying.
Chris matthews is going to be chris matthews and I will give him credit when he exposes a creepy fraud such as marco rubio.. and other republican turd bastards. As I said he is going to try to sell his book at the expense of PBO but when he goes after repub creeps, I am personally going to smile and keep it moving…
Michele, I don’t agree with Rubio’s policies. But would you approve of Matthews going after Marco Rubio based on false premises, selective facts, and dishonest analyses? I certainly wouldn’t. I don’t like Chris Matthews throwing me a “Marco Rubio” bone based on plain facts that are there for any one, even those with half a brain, to see; so that he can then turn around and savage President Obama based on dishonest analyses, and selective historical facts. This country does not need “bipolar” media people who continue to mis-educate and confuse the viewing public. I understand Matthews is trying to make money bashing the President. I also feel that we, who believe in objective truths, have a responsibility to reject Matthews’ dishonesty. By the way, It wasn’t Matthews who exposed Marco Rubio. He was just following what the Washington Post did.
Gov Perry to Chris Wallace ““I think I am going to be able to stand on that stage and draw a clear contrast with Barack Obama,” he said”- In more ways than you know pal. What a dope.
lol, I want to thank you for posting the youtube video of the Rick Perry Cornerstone speech yesterday. I am still marveling at how pathetic he was. Maybe there will be an extreme makeover by the next debate, but I doubt it. In case anyone missed it, here’s the link:
Oh no problem Lady…the man is a COMPLETE moron. How in the hell he got elected three times in Texas is a mystery to me.
Is he drunk?
Ladyhawke….I’d never seen that clip before; what an eye-opener!. Perry was either drunk, high on something or has real mental issues that need to be addressed asap!. Scary.

More proof that the Dem Party is the smart peoples’ party, Repubs are for the dummies. In a LA Times story, intended to say Obama is “in danger” because of economy affecting his core voters, another one of those enthusiasm gap stories, I learned Obama “needs big margins among his 2 core groups, minorities and college educated white professionals plus a reasonable share of whites without college degrees”. duh. But I was also reminded that Obama won the top 12 states with the highest percentage of white voters with college degrees, and of the 10 states with the lowest number of those with college degrees, Obama only won one, Indiana. Obama also beat McCain by 19 points among voters who have educations beyond a college degree. We’re the smarties. And all these lack of Dem enthusiasm stories are popping up because Repubs have absolutely no enthusiasm for THEIR candidates.
That’s exactly right. They’ve got nothing to pump up on their side, so they’re creating genies on the other. The whole goal is to demoralize us and it isn’t going to happen.
Wasn’t it Rove’s strategy to take your worst flaw and project it on your opponent? Lack of enthusiasm?

Good morning TOD family and a special greeting and Happy Birthday to HZ. I always feel better after reading your comments, HZ. This is a good morning here in coastal Winthrop, MA. I went to bed with the wind howling and wet snow covering the leaves I meant to sweep off my deck last week. But this morning, there is bright sunshine and we have power, too. I feel bad for the folks in western Massachusetts and in other States, especially in Connecticut. They really got slammed by this early winter storm.
We are getting ready for a big day of action next Sunday, one year away from the 2012 presidential election. In my area, we will have two voter registration events and some volunteers are taking their first trip to New Hampshire. I wish the public would take a break from polls. They are so misleading and often damaging to the morale of volunteers. In 2008, when I was confronted with the negativity of so many, I struggled to remain optimistic and confident. But I always got back to the common sense agenda that my candidate represented so well and I shared his confidence that given the real facts and information, the majority of voters would make the right decision. I believe the same is true in 2012. In addition, we are so much better placed with the record of the President’s accomplishments, his undeniable status as a well-respected and much admired world leader, his grasp of the issues which is much better understood today as compared to 2008 and, of course, the fact that he is seen by a large majority as a man of integrity, as a wonderful husband and father and a great human being. All of that will not be forgotten, no matter how hard the entrenched power mongers push their lies and spend their dollars on deceiving the public. So, just press on, as the President said. Together we can succeed.
Thank so much hgerhard for the HB wish. Much appreciated.HZ

Completely off-topic but I thought this paragraph was stunning insight into Middle East/North Korea/North Africa!:
Turkey is in 100% for the Opposition. And Iran is (thank god) between a rock and a hard place here. Their own dissidents are growing daily and Iran has revealed they are afraid of them by asking Assad to stop the violence. Iran’s only ally in the region is Assad. That power triangle is Iran, Syria and North Korea. Iran will not be able to control dissent in their country if they support Assad militarily. Isn’t that great! And there is little doubt that the fall of Assad with trigger Iran’s Arab Spring. That will, in turn weaken North Korea. The world is an interesting place.

THE FACT THAT THIS IS NOT BEING REPORTED IS AN INDICTMENT OF THE MEDIA
If you look at the various bills that the Republicans have introduced since take the majority in the House of Representatives, it is criminal. But how much have you heard about these bills in the media? Below is yet another example of the GOP disdain for the American people. This is what they are wasting time doing this week. And the feckless media stenographers look the other way. The media is terrified of just reporting the facts because it will make the GOP look bad. They might accuse them of being in the tank for President Obama and the Democrats. I am ashamed of much of our media. Too many have abdicated their responsibility of educating and informing the public with the facts.
Get a load of this……
House GOP To Violate The Constitution’s Ban On State Sponsored Religion
Americans who support Republicans in Congress must be extremely proud of their representatives for the lies they spread leading up to the 2010 midterm elections. The primary lie was that the GOP was going to focus on “jobs, jobs, jobs” if they were elected and since the start of the 112th Congress, they have focused on religion, Christianity, and more religion to satisfy their fanatical Christian supporters. In an upcoming vote in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Republicans will once again turn their undivided attention to disregarding the Constitution’s ban on promoting religion, and ignore their promise to focus on job creation and growing the economy.
Republicans in the House will attempt to pass a resolution reaffirming that the nation’s motto is “In god We Trust” because it will waste time and divert attention away from the GOP’s total lack of interest in creating jobs or bolstering the economy.
Rick Perry flip-flops on debates
By REID J. EPSTEIN | 10/30/11 7:09 AM EDT
That was quick.
Three days after suggesting Rick Perry might skip some of the upcoming GOP presidential debates, his campaign confirmed he’ll attend at least five more, a sign that the campaign may have recognized Perry had as much to lose as gain from a debate-dodging strategy.
Perry spokesman Ray Sullivan told the Associated Press Saturday that the Texas governor will attend the four events currently scheduled in November as well as a December debate.
Just by floating the idea that he might avoid debates, the Perry campaign raised hackles among activists in the states slated to host the upcoming events. But even setting aside the question of ruffled feathers, there was always a strategic reason to show up: In no other way can a candidate — especially one like Perry who is trailing front-runners Mitt Romney and Herman Cain in national and early-state polls — reframe the campaign discussion as Perry did last week in Las Vegas.
Perry spokesman Mark Miner touched off the debate debate Wednesday when he told POLITICO the campaign wouldn’t commit to participating in any forums after the one Nov. 9 in Michigan. Officially, that’s also the position of Mitt Romney’s campaign despite his string of strong performances.
But the universe of debates Perry or any other candidate might have logically skipped was small. After the Michigan debate that both Perry and Romney committed to attend, all but two of the nine scheduled debates before Florida’s Jan. 31 primary are in early-nominating states. Candidates who skip a debate in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina or Florida do so at their own risk.
“If they skip the one here, they’re going to have a problem with South Carolina,” South Carolina GOP Chairman Chad Connelly told POLITICO. “If somebody were to skip this, this is a CBS national network debate, I just don’t think it would be a good idea for them to skip it. A debate in D.C. or a debate elsewhere, maybe. But not here.”

‘The courage of his absence of convictions’
Perhaps the most talked-about column of the day is George Will’s piece on Mitt Romney, and for good reason. There’s quite a bit to chew on here.
Putting aside a couple of needlessly cheap shots at President Obama — the ATM joke was dumb six months ago, George, when Rush Limbaugh was the one pushing it — Will gives voice to conservatives who marvel at Romney’s vacuity, but aren’t sure what to do about it.
The driving anecdote is Romney’s inability “enunciate a defensible, or even decipherable, ethanol policy.” As is generally the case, the former governor has taken a wide variety of positions, most of them contradictory, and none of them compelling from any perspective. Will argues, persuasively, that if Romney can’t even select a coherent position on ethanol — one of the easier issues to understand — no one can have any confidence in his ability to address far more complex challenges.
“A straddle is not a political philosophy,” Will explains, “it is what you do when you do not have one.” From there, Will notes Romney trying to take both sides — and oddly enough, neither side — of a few too many arguments, including the auto industry rescue and the ridiculous handling of Ohio’s ballot measures this week.
Romney, Will concludes, seems to “lack the courage of his absence of convictions.”
Romney, supposedly the Republican most electable next November, is a recidivist reviser of his principles who is not only becoming less electable; he might damage GOP chances of capturing the Senate. Republican successes down the ticket will depend on the energies of the Tea Party and other conservatives, who will be deflated by a nominee whose blurry profile in caution communicates only calculated trimming.
Republicans may have found their Michael Dukakis, a technocratic Massachusetts governor who takes his bearings from “data” (although there is precious little to support Romney’s idea that in-state college tuition for children of illegal immigrants is a powerful magnet for such immigrants) and who believes elections should be about (in Dukakis’s words) “competence,” not “ideology.” But what would President Romney competently do when not pondering ethanol subsidies that he forthrightly says should stop sometime before “forever”? Has conservatism come so far, surmounting so many obstacles, to settle, at a moment of economic crisis, for this?
I’d imagine the Romney campaign isn’t fond of Dukakis comparisons, though there are some parallels — socially-awkward Massachusetts governors, who aren’t especially well-liked, even by their own party.
But the larger point is more important. Will just doesn’t want the right to settle for the flip-flopping empty suit with an allergy to convictions and principles, simply because of some sense of “electability.”
And by all appearances, Will isn’t the only one. Indeed, it’s probably why Romney can have it all — the most money, the most endorsements, the most time on the campaign trail, the most name recognition — and still struggle to get above 23% in the polls. It’s very likely much of the party is asking the same question that anchored Will’s column: do conservative have to “settle … for this”?
Jon Chait had a good look at the causes for the right’s ennui.
Romney is running a purely results-based campaign against President Obama. His message is simply that things are bad and Obama hasn’t made them better. (Slogan: “Obama isn’t working.”) Romney’s theme elides why things are bad and says very little about what he intends to do to make them better, other than the fact that he, Mitt Romney, is the man to do it. […]
He wants to get through the primary with his ideological flexibility intact, unencumbered by unpopular commitments. He offers the right the least amount of substantive commitment, packaged in the maximum emotional packaging.
Conservatives want to win above all, but it’s not the only thing they want. They want to win a philosophically oriented campaign. They want to believe that Americans are voting for their party because they agree with it, not just because the other party was in office during an economic free fall.
Romney offers the party no such opportunity, but he’s leading a cover-your-eyes awful field that lack a more credible alternative.
Over the next two or three months, the question will the GOP will have to ask itself is whether their Dukakis is good enough.
THE FLIP FLOP MEME BITES GOP IN THE ARSE
The GOP had a great deal of success with the flip flopping meme against John Kerry in 2004. They were brutal and relentless. Of course, it didn’t help that John Kerry said this “I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it.”. Anyway, the pummeling that Willard is taking now for his flip flop flip acrobatics is immensely satisfying. What goes around comes around.

I caught part of a morning NPR report on people that have been foreclosed on then getting big lawsuits from banks, I think Bank of America was mentioned much later for huge amounts of money. I listened to what I could worrying about my youngest daughter that had done a short sell but it was mentioned that action was safe from this lawsuit. It all sounded vaguely scatalogical and mean, but altogether incomprehensible. Perhaps it’s the hydrocodone I’m taking?
By the way, thanks hugely for all the well wishes from you all. My oldest daughter copied them off and brought them to me!
Welcome back Joan..so glad to see your presence…:-)….

Joan, what a beautiful gift on my birthday, YOU!!! I prayed for your concerns during your surgery. Our thoughts and prayers were delivered to us in you being here to share with us today.
What a birthday gift for me. I am so thankful for your recovery and to know that All of your doctors were so together to get you what was exactly needed to give you calmness and trust. That is what I asked for that you would be surrounded with gifted and compassionate doctors and nurses. I am so happy that I am sitting here crying with joyful tears for you. Please know that you are so loved by all of us, especially HZ. Keep well. I wrote another comment on the other thread for you. Love you Joan.HZ
