Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and some of his top aides used private email accounts to conduct state business at times when Romney was governor of Massachusetts, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press. The communications were legal, even though Romney’s own administration warned state agencies against the practice due to cyber security concerns. The state archives in Massachusetts β€” which learned about Romney’s emails from the AP β€” now says the private emails should have invoked rules about preserving copies of state records.

Private email accounts used by public officials to perform their public jobs are effectively off limits to review by citizens, watchdog groups, political opponents and news organizations because they’re often used secretly. Free accounts from commercial providers also are more vulnerable to hackers who exploit easy-to-use features to reset email passwords.

Alabama’s crackdown on illegal immigration may keep Charlie Brown and Snoopy from performing in a high school musical.

A public high school has put the production of β€œYou’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’’ on hold after a New York licensing house that owns the rights to the play refused to submit a document required under the immigration law.

The licensing company, Tams-Witmark Music Library Inc., relented and submitted the document Friday following inquiries from The Associated Press, school officials said.

At least 12 people were killed and three others injured in a U.S. drone strike launched Friday in Pakistan’s northwest tribal area of South Waziristan bordering Afghanistan, reported local media.

The reports about the U.S. drone strike came at about 6:40 p.m. local time when a vehicle suspected of carrying militants was reportedly hit by U.S. drone missiles in the Shaktoi Mandao area of South Waziristan, which is near the Afghan border.

Some local media reports said that all the 15 people in the vehicle were killed while others said that U.S. drones actually fired four missiles at two different targets. One is a vehicle and the other is a house.

Unfortunately, chairs in a crowd this size are a safety hazard. Ever noticed that the only time there are chair is if the event is at an arena/stadium type venue where the chairs are bolted to the floor? The only place where they have chairs is the ADA (Americans with Disabilities) sections, and even then often there are only a limited number.

          • 147 vcprezofan2
            March 9, 2012 at 8:30 pm

This I think is the key point. When there is ugly underneath it takes over any positive that’s on the surface, or emphasizes any negatives. Another example is Christie and his weight. I’ve known heavy people with a pleasant spirit and you tend to SEE the person rather than the weight. With Christie I always see the weight first because of his yukky character. Willard’s ken doll looks are far overshadowed by his insincerity, his low social skills meter and his robotic behaviour. It’s unlikely PBO would seem handsome to so many, if like Santorum his character was questionable and his manner abrasive..

Romney is not aging well. He has nothing going on in his heart and his body language is closed and stiff. He always looks like he’s struggling. Always awkward and off-key. He’s the exact opposite of attractive. UGH.

‘Even when he’s fired up, his voice emotes a certain assured-ness and calmness that really strikes the perfect note.’

One of the things about PBO that really truly appeals to me! I am easily turned off when speakers overly emote. For example, I find it hard to listen to Rev Al even when I appreciate his content, so I find myself regularly turning him down when he gets too passionate.

      • March 9, 2012 at 11:03 pm

Carla, beautiful music and a loving voice is healing to the illness in a person. When my mother was lying there in bed, I would sing in her ears softly, and she would try to move her eyes, and try to smile. (She was not able to speak at that time). I read somewhere that the hearing of a person, is always there and very keen, so never stop talking to them, singing to them, or having music near their bed. It works. Music and a soothing voice brings a healing measure to the patient.

May you have peace and may your mother have a healing touch of grace upon her body.((((((Be peaceful as possible)))))))))))HZ

Yep! That’s the one πŸ™‚ My favorite job, in my life, was working on the cancer floor at Ohio State University Hospitals. Those amazing people, and their amazing families, have lived in my heart all these many, many years. I have not worked there since the 80’s. What they go through, and the courage they show in the face of sometimes insurmountable odds, was life changing for me. I owe them this…they gave me so much. For children….I would do anything. If this helps them…I can certainly do this for them. Actually, my husband, my son, and I are all doing this tomorrow….I’m looking forward to it. Now I’ll look like Jamie Lee Curtis…bald πŸ™‚ Bless these children.

          • March 9, 2012 at 9:58 pm

Again, thank you. I will share your comment with my daughter. You are so right about children with cancer….and the families. 99% of them are positive, upbeat, funny and seldom complain. I know our Walker was like that and all the others we know are the same. Cancer SUCKS, but there’s something way different when it is a child.

I am so proud of my daughter. Her shave event is in July. I will share a link for donations later.

I cry because We all made this happen for all of these precious young lives. Their lives will be touched in a manner that so many of us will not be here to see them tell their stories of this President and First Lady.

I cry because I can see how much hard work POB displays for us to see daily in our journey with him as our POTUS.

I cry because POB has so much love, kindness, and peace that he shares with people all over this globe, and he is our President.

I cry because even in the midst of all of the bitterness and hateful, and jealous people, he is able to carry on and rise above it all.

I cry because I am happy to be a part of it all and to be here with such a beautiful family who represent him in our words and deeds.

I cry because I am happy. Thank you, Mr. President for being such a wonderful human being who brings out the best in all of us.

Thanks to you, Chips for all the beauty that you share with us and allow us to give back. I love you, our beloved Chipsticks. HZ

Nice post from John Cole at Balloon Juice tearing into Jake Tapper for the shoddy journalism he did on tonight ABC News show.

    Jake Tapper’s Convenient Untruths

    by John Cole

Hope people are lighting him up on twitter.

    • 246 hopefruit2
      March 9, 2012 at 8:37 pm

Jake Tapper, Mark Knoller, Chuck Todd and Ed Henry. Four overpaid hacks that call themselves journalists.

    • 249 hopefruit2
      March 9, 2012 at 8:57 pm

I’m glad I didn’t watch ABC news tonight – something just told me that they would not be happy about the positive jobs report and would come out with some BS spin, and sure enough, they didn’t disappoint in that regard.

From the balloon juice article it appears that Tapper told many outright lies about the President and the election, e.g.,

      1. Republicans are enthusiastic and Democrats are deflated and not solidly behind PBO (WTF?!?! didn’t Mr. Tapper see the most recent Ohio Super Tuesday “symbolic” results for PBO?).

      2. PBO is below 50% approval (ABC’s poll showed PBO AT 50%), and Team Obama is running away from their own record (did Tapper watch the Houston speech that we just saw?)

      3. PBO is responsible for the rising unemployment since he took office.

      4. PBO is responsible for rising gas prices .

      5. PBO is responsible for the housing bubble.

As a poster commented, Jake Tapper must know that his Bush tax cuts will expire if PBO gets re-elected, so he must be mu.st be on overdrive to help Mitt Romney as much as possible.

      • March 9, 2012 at 11:48 pm

How does Tapper claim that the President’s team is running away from his record when they’ve just released a trailer for a 17 minute video touting his record and accomplishments? Silly Jake.

    • March 9, 2012 at 9:20 pm

” Democrats are deflated and Republicans are enthusiastic about voting this November” ??? WTF? Did I really hear him say that? What a bold faced LIE!!!! Oh please please please, you masters of the twitter bombard him with the stats of the low turnouts of the GOP primaries.
How can he just lie like that? I’m aghast!

      • 252 hopefruit2
        March 9, 2012 at 9:44 pm

And guess who is PRAISING Tapper’s hit piece – that’s right you guessed it..Rush Limbaugh. Also, you wouldn’t believe this but Tapper actually went digging thru the WH visitor records to find out whether Prof Derrick Bell had visited PBO in the WH since 2009. That was on rumors from the wingnuts that Bell was still advising PBO on radical policies in the WH.

Unfortunately for Tapper and the Wingnuts, he found nothing of the sort, and a “Derick A Bell” who participated in WH tours was not the same person as professor Derrick Bell .

Now Jake Tapper is being very thin-skinned and defensive now that folks are calling him out for spreading LIES. He’s even weighing in on the Shirley Sherrod incident blaming the Obama administration and accusing Robert Gibbs of blaming the media for her firing.

        • March 9, 2012 at 9:54 pm

OMG, this is absurd! I think we need to get on ABC’s case about this. This is a network that’s supposed to be impartial in journalism, not like what we’ve come to expect from the cable chatterers. This cannot stand unchallenged!

          • 254 hopefruit2
            March 9, 2012 at 10:01 pm

Yes it is ridiculous. And even if Prof Bell had visited the WH why should that matter? He was a citizen who by law had the same right to visit as anyone else. Why should the mainstream media be entertaining these silly speculations and CT’s from the Breitbart wing of the Republican party?

        • March 9, 2012 at 11:51 pm

Given that Professor Bell is renowned in intelligent circles for his work on civil rights and equality, it would have been lovely if he’d been able to visit the President and offer his advice on current events. These GOP are vile, they don’t know what they’re talking about, and just because they want to call something dirty, doesn’t make it so.

          • March 10, 2012 at 12:15 am

Theo67, you are so correct in your observations. Professor Derrick Bell will always be known for his intellect, his brave life, his scholarship, his hard work in the DOJ during a time when things were very difficult in our country, and above all his ability to also rise above the hatered and vileness of the likes of the same type of people who are pouring on this hatefulness and fear about a good and decent man.

The sad thing about it all now, it the fact that Professor Bell has not even been in his grave but a short while ,before the hateful and vile spoken and written words are being thrown in his family’s face. That is what makes this so vile.

These peoples’ goal is to cast before the American people hate, evil, fear, and lies. If the people will fall for these evils, then these GOPers will have won their small and ugly agenda. However, I do believe deep within my heart that they will see their judgement day,, and it will be an awful day for their ugly souls.

So we move on and do what is good, just and fair, and we will be rewarded for those things that of good, loving, and pure.HZ

          • 257 nathkatun7
            March 10, 2012 at 9:35 pm

Indeed Theo! Why are these people all of a sudden defiling the memory of Professor Derrick Bell? Here is who Professor Bell was:

            1. An outstanding attorney who worked tirelessly and courageously for Civil Rights.
            2. A law School Dean at the University of Of Oregon (my Alma Mater)
3 A professor of Law at both Harvard University and NYU
            4. The author of several brilliant books, and numerous scholarly articles, dealing with law and race in America
            5. A deeply religious and ethical man, as is clearly in evidence in his books: “GOSPEL CHOIRS:Psalms of Survival in an Alien Land Called Home” and “Ethical Ambition: Living a life of Meaning and Worth.”

I just can’t tell you how disgusted I am that this gentle and highly ethical man, with a brilliant intellect, who took courageous stands, not to advance himself, but to improve the lives of others, is now depicted as some despicable character that President Obama should never have associated with. As you said, these people are “vile.” And not just the GOP but also those in the MSM that have become the GOP enablers!

Amazing that people would find anything the media ho Palin says to be of any intellectual value. She’s not good enough to have wiped Prof. Bell’s ass. Sorry for the graphic language but I can’t stand when low-lifes get a stand where a true intellect gets derided, all because of ideology and skin tone. This is what our modern America was founded on, folks. We see it revealed everyday since the age of Obama. F ’em.

      • 286 EDP4BHO
        March 9, 2012 at 9:28 pm

I should qualify that “modern America” by saying we see the vestiges of colonialism, subjugation, and annihilation dying a slow, agonizing death, and none too soon. Maybe, and it’s a big maybe, America will have shed that skin in time to make a dream such as Dr. King had, a lasting reality.

  68. March 9, 2012 at 9:03 pm

“I think we need to think about governing before we think about winning” says the screenwriter for Game Change on what is wrong with our political process in selecting our leaders. He said he interviewed all the McCain/Palin campaign staffers to verify what was in the book and movie and 24 out of 25 said everything was completely accurate. Wonder who the one lingering Palin loyalist was. He said that the one thing people will be shocked about is how utterly unprepared Palin was for that role. Ummmm—–don’t think we’ll be that shocked, those of us who were paying attention.

Should we tell Mr. Screenwriter that Alaska Barbie’s unpreparedness is no longer a surprise – Most Americans figured it out shortly after her arrival on the national scene. Equally ‘utterly unprepared’ for the role of US president are the four who are currently dancing around on the national republican stage.

Desertflower, how are you? I wrote to Sen. Levin today. I also wrote to the DOJ and to the DOD. Someone on twitter was complaining about having to listen to RL all the time and how our service men/women were given a hard time about the garbage that was coming out of his mouth. I do not know the truth in that statement, but that prompted me to write to the DOJ and DOD.

Our service men/women should not have to take smack from others while they are serving their country. It is just not right. I am hoping and praying that Sec. Panetta and A.G. Holder will ask for a meeting before Congress, maybe the Armed Services Committee and Oversight. One of my senators is on the Armed Services Committee. Maybe we all should write to our senators and representatives about this as well as signing the petition.HZ

Yes, amk, I am sure you are right on this. This lower solar plexus dweller knows it is over for him, knows he created his own ending, and it does not taste sweet. The reality is sinking in to his vicious sub human brain that he has taken every step, spoken every word of his own accord, and been paid far more than this brand of hatred could possibly be worth, setting the stage for his own self-undoing, and he is very very angry. He must have believed the rich and powerful could protect him, but there is nowhere to hide now. They will turn their backs on him, he will go down in history as a nobody. A big fat loudmouthed nobody, who brought no joy, no hope, no creativity, only unkindness where it was not warranted. Too bad for him. We all make our own choices, this is America, land of the free. He should not have abused that freedom.

Wow..he’s not even pretending anymore huh? He was going for “man child” until now. It was like, I’m not saying “boy”, but wink wink, y’all know what I mean. The ugly’s all out now.

He is trying to change the subject from his insane and disgusting remarks about Ms. Fluke. Don’t let him, keep the pressure on him.

Who was the one wearing that little boy shirt the other day, a grown rusty man like Limbaugh wearing some shirt that a 7 or 8 year old would wear. I think it’s clear those drugs has affected Limbaugh’s mind. He’s a racists sick bastard.

Hahahaha. He’s gonna lose that state in the general but hey keep blowing that money. It only gives the stations more money and they can in turn hire more people.

Gingrich to get Secret Service protection!

How much will this cost the taxpayers and will Gingrich pay for it with his own money?

Saw my first Romney ad last night here in Chicago. It was a Super PAC by and it was nasty. All against Santorum and lies about himself. Like it talks about Romney saving the Olympics and at th time he dmitted he couldn’t have done it with the US government subsidizing the games. I know it is going to get worse over the next 10 days. But it says omething about how scared they are. This is a state that should be no problem for Romney. I have a feeling the polls they have aren’t that great. Sure he might win, but he should win by 20 points over a Santorum and I bet it will be less than 5.

Does anybodu have any idea of the size of the crowd. I would love to see pictures comparing the size of this crowd versus the large turnout for Romney at Ford Field.

I bet bill maher sticks uP for Rush Tonight!

      March 9, 2012 at 10:39 pm

I find it amazing that liberals are quick to defend people on the right when they are being attacked instead of just silently allowing them to go down. While Maher is defending, Rush the right is attacking Maher and trying to equate his statements with those of Rush and even dragging PBO into it by demanding he return the million dollar check Maher donated to the Super Pac supporting PBO.

Last week Goldie Taylor and Toure were on Lawrence’s show saying kind things about Breitbart and this week we see the results of his last smear campaign against PBO through a Harvard professor. They should feel pretty stupid now. These folks act as though they don’t know we are at war right now. The RWNJs take no prisoners and never come to the aid of anyone on the left when they’re in trouble. If you’re sinking they will promptly place an anvil in your hands to help you sink faster but lefties are always there to make a false equivalency like MHP and Whoopi instead of just standing back and allowing these folks to go down uninterrupted.

I just received this email and I’ve RSVP’d (look forward to meeting you all there!)

“now is the perfect time to meet up with other supporters and help celebrate the opening of our brand-new office in Los Angeles.

We’ll also kick off the night with a screening of David Guggenheim’s new film, The Road We’ve Traveled, about the challenges and accomplishments of President Obama’s first term. You won’t want to miss this inspirational launch for our office.”

What: OFA Los Angeles office opening

    Where: OFA Los Angeles office
    10401 Venice Blvd.
    Los Angeles, CA 90034

    When: Thursday, March 15th
    4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

We won’t work you too hard on Thursday — there’s plenty of hard work to do in the months ahead. We’ll relax with some food and drinks, and chat about the issues that matter most here in California, like affordable health care and support for the middle class.

This office in Los Angeles will be your local hub for building our base of volunteers, connecting with undecided voters, and making sure we secure the 270 electoral votes we need for a win on November 6th. Our state has the power to make a real impact in this election for Democrats up and down the ticket — but it won’t happen unless we get our organizing off the ground in California now.

It’s time to prepare for the tough fight ahead — so don’t miss the office kickoff in Los Angeles on Thursday:

    See you out there,

    Mary Jane

    Mary Jane Stevenson
    California State Director

GGail, Thanks for sharing this. Oh how I wish I wasn’t working on that day, but unfortunately I am. Otherwise, I would drive from San Diego to be part of the opening of your LA office and being able to see the film. All I can say is:Go Angelenos! I know you’ll represent Southern Cal. with an impressive showing.

I’m about to expire for the day. Nighty night lovely people, nighty night Ms Chips, thanks for another fantastic day in TODland. Ciao.
