Good morning all.
This was a great video to watch and would be one chain mail I do not mind passing on.
We need to get it out to all around.
Missed it by this much…LOL
Morning CTGirl!!!! Okay, I have to head out, back in a while 😉
I just listened to Dr. Derrick Bell’s wife Janet, on the Tom Joyner Morning Show. What a gracious, smart, loving woman!! She was married to an amazing man. She was so cool, but so clear about her disdain for the fools who are trying to malign her late husband. Her defining comment? “Have they no sense of decency”?
The plus of all of this, I hope, is that people will be able to learn more about Derrick Bell, the first black tenured professor at Harvard Law School. I learned that he worked with Thurgood Marshall. Right there — that’s just amazing!!
They will trash anyone just to malign the president (i.e Bell, Fluke, Sherrod, etc). It’s so pathetic but it’s really all they have.
That is true but there is also and element putting that blackk man in his place and all blacks so there will never another one running for office no matter how smart, moral. It’s like the old poem, Looking at yourself in the mirror. Keep em down, is there motto. God help us. We need more dems in office. We have some local elections coming up in MN for the Senate and I will be working to put the down ticket in office also.
Good morning all in TODville; checking 1 2 3…
The Road We’ve traveled is exploding right wing nut job heads. Ha Ha
Have a nice day everyone.
Just FYI – the video above doesn’t start until around 23 mins and 12 seconds in.
Hey TOD – mornin’! Last nights mini documentary was awesome! I’ll have to watch that vid with the Q&A’s when I get home – I bet that was interesting. Hope everyone is having a great day – I’ll be popping in and out ( at work)

So much for ‘he made it worse’
By Steve Benen
For the better part of the last year, there was one claim Mitt Romney made more than any other: President Obama, he said, made the economy “worse.”
Reality makes clear that the dubious claim just isn’t true, but the Republican presidential hopeful repeated it anyway, ad nauseum, in nearly every speech, interview, and public appearance. It became the central point of the former governor’s entire campaign: Obama made the economy worse, and Romney would make it better.
As national conditions improved, the argument became untenable, and the shift in Romney’s rhetoric tells an important story.
Didn’t he recently flip flop and admit that the economy is actually better?
The comical thing about Romney aside from his lying (what else is new) is that he offers tired old bromides as his solution to improving the economy. Tax breaks for rich, eliminating Planned Parenthood. Could anyone sound more ridiculous? Oh wait..Little Ricky.
Good Morning, CHIPS 🙂
OSAMA BIN LADEN IS DEAD AND GENERAL MOTORS IS ALIVE 🙂
I went to the “Road We Traveled” screening and the room was PACKED. (It was the Phoenix OFA headquarters off Highland)
The film was great too; a good reminder of what we’ve gone through – in only 3 years.
I wish he got the credit he deserves but I think history will be VERY kind. He’s an extraordinary man and an excellent president.
I believe he will be rewarded with a 2nd term. The media has never worked so hard to drag a president down, but clearly, the public is increasingly resistant to the media’s garbage spin. E.g., the two bogus polls that were released on Monday would probably have gone unchallenged just 3 years ago. Many ordinary people on twitter were immediately suspicious about not just the polls, but the accompanying MSM narrative (rising gas prices).
Wish I could have been there. My sister and the family come into town yesterday for a wedding…..I was the chauffeur.Rather been there with all of you!
Even tho some here were saying they really liked Ezra Klein, I find him insufferable. He is always so desperate to attempt to prove he is The Smartest Person In The World, that he appears silly and desperate. He always ignores PBO’s 179 sterling qualities and looks for something, no matter how convoluted, with which to criticize him. Ezra gets a spot on Morning Joke because he stole Romney’s “deep thought” and statement that President Obama was only elected because of his “soaring rhetoric”, wrote that speeches don’t matter and the MJ crowd was only too happy to put a spotlight on that false premise and go with it. Anyone who has any kind of criticism of President Obama, come on down! Klein repeatedly steps right into that role. UGH.
I saw Ezra this morning. Sometimes he gets it right, other times like this morning, he rolls out of bed and decides what BS he’ll spin for the day. The argument he was making that Presidents speeches don’t matter and people don’t pay attention to them and it does nothing for them is pure hogwash. GWB used a speech and flawed data to get us into Iraq, Reagan used a speech to justify trickle down economics and the lies that minorities are “welfare queens” Clinton used a speech to convince a nation to reelect him, PBO has used multiple speeches to get the public on his side e.g the debt ceiling and the payroll tax cut fight. So Ezra’s theory on Morning Joe didn’t fly with me and a lot of people on twitter as well. That was just a wasted segment filled with more claptrap.
Good thing I missed Mr. Klein. Boy I would love to tell him that sometimes people don’t pay attention to these pundits who think they know every thing, for us these pundits like Klein is pure hogwash. I don’t watch Rachel when she is not on the show, and sometimes I don’t watch her like last night with that Sen. Inhofe, waste of time. I don’t like Ezra Klein, Chris Hayes. When Bashir is not on his show, I don’t watch it.
I don’t like him either. It annoys me when people who’ve been around about 5 minutes act as though they are smarter than everyone else. How about this Ezra? PBO won because he was the best candidate who ran a near perfect campaign. He won because he was a Democrat running against a Republican who selected a mental case for his VP and whose party nearly destroyed this country. How about that Ezra? And by the way, speeches are important and they do matter because that’s how a President communicates with the country and the world a$$hole.
I don’t like him either. Two nights ago while subbing for Rachel, he opened the show with a segment on Mitt Romney, in which he basically stretched to liken Willard’s current campaign to PBO’s 2008 DEM primary campaign. He started off by dismissing Willard’s grand loss of two southern states to wingnut loser Santorum and went on to spin that it’s really delegates that matter (We know that is not exactly true because Romney outspent Santorum 5 to 1, and pandered with his y’all and grits for the votes in those states) .
I couldn’t believe such garbage coming from Klein. First of all Willard is not campaigning just to win the GOP delegates, he’s running to win the Presidency, and if he’s not winning any of the GOP strongholds in the south, that does NOT bode well for him in November. Furthermore, his campaign is NOTHING like PBO’s campaign, no matter which angle you look at it.
1. PBO was a newbie, the underdog running against the Clinton Machine, and was not expected to win by a long stretch. Romney started off as a veteran candidate and the presumed one to beat.
2. PBO’s main opponent was a formidable foe and had the support and backing of the establishment. Romney on the other hand has been surrounded by a bunch of clowns and losers from Bachman to Cain to Santorum.
3. Thirdly, PBO won many blue states, which showed that he could get the base of the Democratic party behind him if it came to that. Besides Florida (which is a swing state), Romney has not won any of the southern states, and only wins in states that PBO is already beating him in!
4. Finally, PBO got stronger as the DEM primary went on, and his numbers and likeableness INCREASED with voters. The opposite is true for Mitt Romney. The longer the race drags on , the worse things get for him and the weaker he comes off.
It’s now quite obvious that all the MSM’s polls about PBO being a muslim, as well as the bogus ABC/CBS polls, etc where intended to give Romney a boost in MS and AL. As soon as these races were over, we stopped hearing anything about those polls from the media. And of course, Klein is part of that media machine, so it’s not surprising all the garbage that spews that he thinks makes him look so intelligent.
Bravo, Hopefruit for this excellent analysis, which debunks Klein’s shallow analysis! I wish more Americans were exposed to many of your brilliant and fearless posts at the TOD.
Ezra has his good points, but I agree about the desperate nature of some of his silly comments. Reminds me of how Rachel gets. They have the IQ but sometimes not the EQ. They go overboard proving how smart and cool and nerdy they are. They should just be themselves, even though I still won’t watch them much. Give me Rev. Al and Martin Bashir any day, plus they can get a laugh out of you even when you didn’t think you felt like laughing.
I still think the media as a whole feels chastened by the accusation by the Clinton and McCain campaigns that they were in the tank for PBO that’s why they can never offer a positive critique without adding something negative. They gravitate toward every story true or untrue that shows PBO in an unfavorable light because it gives them an opportunity to prove they are not biased toward PBO. Unfortunately, for them they seem to not realize that the answer to their dilemma is simply to be fair and tell the truth no matter who or what you’re reporting on because while they may believe being overly favorable to PBO may cause them to lose credibility, being overly unfavorable to PBO will net the same result, a loss of credibilty.
Yep, unfortunately, I’m sure that’s true. So, to make themselves look unbiased, they show bias among the group. Not a self-starter or free-thinker among ’em.
As a regular pundit, he’s just too young, but that’s what passes for analysis on the news these days. That being said, he was my go-to guy on ACA throughout the entire process. that’s why I didn’t know how young he was until this week. He was fair and accurate and I will always respect him for it.
I think he would serve himself better if he paid more dues doing that kind of reporting and analysis and becoming a pundit when he has more wisdom and experience in life.
I noticed interesting diff in Romney’s ads in Tn. and Il. We spent the night at a motel in Tn. pre-their primary and they were equally as anti-Obama as they were anti-Santorum. In Illinois, the Obama slams have been dropped and they are solidly anti-Ricky. Gee, wonder why that is. Romney’s super pac is unloading a ton of money here though as his ads have flooded the airwaves. And I have been Repub polled a bunch of times and Romney robo-called 3 times already. And what was really annoying with suspicious timing, I got another “presidential candidate Mitt Romney has an URGENT message for you!” call while I was desperately trying to watch the film last night with all the buffering issues.
He has spent over 60 million in the primary so far, yet, he is in a dogfight with Santorum!
So much for ‘he made it worse’
By Steve Benen – Fri Mar 16, 2012 8:00 AM EDT.
Mitt Romney on Thursday night admitted that the economy is improving. “I believe we’re in a recovery mode, finally,” Romney told Fox News’ Sean Hannity. “I think it’s likely things will get better.”
HIGH GAS PRICES 101
I just watched the speech that President Obama gave yesterday on energy. It was a tutorial on high gas prices 101. Just terrific. He covered all of the bases and got in some pretty good digs at the unnamed GOP presidential candidates. I love it when the only adult in the room uses “ridicule” to make a point about the juveniles in the Republican Party. There is no seriousness of purpose. There is nothing but phony and dishonest rhetoric. They never want to do the hard work of governing. They are the biggest threat to the future of this country. It is horrifying to think of Mitt Romney anywhere near the Oval Office. His pathological lying is a serious character flaw. He just can’t seem to process FACTS.
Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital tied to China surveillance camera push
GOP candidate has called for hard line against the China’s suppression of religious freedom, political dissent

The comments on PBO’s Facebook and Youtube page from people who watched the movie is so wonderful to read. The most heartening part is the flood of young people who weren’t old enough to vote for PBO in 08 who are mad as hell at the treatment he recieved from the GOP, the emoprogs, and the media these past three years. They’re mad at the racial slurs people used against him, they’re mad at the teaparty, they’re mad that he was mocked and called Hitler, they’re mad that every action he took to save people like them was taken for granted by those in the public sphere and a lot of them are just pumped to not only vote for him for the first time in 2012, but to donate, and also volunteer. They made the right decision releasing the movie to show people where we were and how far we’ve come.
Off to read those comments!!!
p.s The movie even got comments from republicans saying that it opened their eyes to how much mess the U.S was in when PBO was elected and that they loved that he didn’t blame anyone, he just got down to business and began cleaning up the mess. So even though they’re die hard republicans, they’re going to vote for PBO in 2012 because all their side does is whine whine whine, blame, blame, blame and don’t tell them what their ideas for the future are. Only PBO does that. Awesome!
p.p.s. man oh man oh man PBO and his team have got to play up healthcare in 2012 – hopefully the SC doesn’t go batshit crazy on us – the comments about healthcare are so positive. A lot of college kids and their parents have been commenting saying he literally saved their lives because they can now remain on their parents health insurance and parents are so grateful they don’t have to take their kids to free clinics because their employer’s insurance was too expensive to put their kids on their plans. The outpouring of gratitude is overwhelming. I’m so thankful he stuck to his guns on ACA and didn’t let the right and left lead him astray. Having health insurance is sometimes the difference between life and death and these folks commenting know it. They are so thankful.
p.p.p.s Also the comments coming from women and some are republican is heartening. They are mad at the GOP’s war on women. They are mad at the GOP transvaginal probes and ultrasound bills, they are mad that the GOP want to tear down ACA which helps them obtain free birth control. The GOP is shooting themselves in the foot if they continue in this vein because though some republican women voters may stay silent, based on their comments and comments they hear from their GOP female friends, the GOP is toast in regards to the women vote.
Wow! This is exciting!
Loved this comment:
He said during the campaign, “It will take all of us” and “Change won’t be easy”. Somehow I ended up letting him do it all and was frustrated that change didn’t come fast enough. I remember now. I will be part of us. He is what I voted for and will vote for him again with pride.
He said during the campaign, “It will take all of us” and “Change won’t be easy”.
A lot of people on the left thought all they had to do was vote for Obama, get him elected and that their work was done.
In fact, it was only the beginning.
I really hope people’s eyes are open to the fact that it takes US to make the changes. We need to be vigilant, in constant contact with our reps and ELECT MORE DEMS in Congress.
UT, as always your reports are thorough, well written and quite informative. This country needs young people like you to be the future journalists.
THAT IS SO ON POINT…IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE A 17 MIN VIDEO ESSY ON THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT….
THINK ABOUT THAT IMPACT….
I HOPE THAT WE GET MORE VIDEOS….ON OTHER ASPECTS…..LIKE THE DEBT CEILING FIGHT…ETC….
YES WE CAN/YES WE WILL…
this is such a dishonest Supreme Court — I admit to being very concerned about what nonsense they’ll cook up.
Since Kennedy is the alleged ‘swing’ vote — you think he might do something sane for once? When was the last time he was reasonable?
I’m with you 57andfemale, I don’t trust the Supreme Court.
Oh my goodness. I’m blown away by those excellent comments! Esp from the Repubs who were brave enough to admit openly that they were going to vote for PBO this Nov. This film is going viral and people will want to see MORE like it! No wonder Morning Joke and crew were silent this morning.
THE FILM POKES A BIG HOLE IN THE MEDIA FIREWALL
Alarm, alarm, the media firewall has been compromised. I can just imagine that the mainstream media and the GOP are apoplectic about this film. The revelations are going to be news to many viewers. Just imagine the number of Americans who will see this film and utter the words “I DIDN’T KNOW THAT”. It may cause them to ask why this information wasn’t reported in their local news and tv stations.
The lightbulbs will be going off constantly as more and more Americans get the facts. As Vice President Biden said yesterday in Ohio the contrast between the parties could not be more stark. It’s simple, President Obama has been governing and trying the improve the lives of the American people while the Republican Party of “NO” has been obstructing, filibustering, delaying, sabotaging, lying, and distorting.
If they didn’t know, then they weren’t paying attention. When I watched that film, I remember all that stuff being said on the news. I still had a television signal back then and I remember how awful it was; how frightening it was. The world was literally days away from a complete thermonuclear economic meltdown. I think it is easy to forget because the worst possible scenario DID NOT HAPPEN because everyone, and I mean even the Bush administration was looking to the President Elect Obama to fix things. His calm leadership made people believe he understood the economy and would do whatever was needed to fix the mess. This is all very vivid in my memory.
Well said, Tien Le! I also remember the impending economic meltdown being widely discussed on T.V. How could any one forget that unprecedented White House meeting, when an out-going president called an emergency meeting about a dire economic crisis, where C the two presidential candidates running to replace him were invited to participate with Congressional leaders of both parties to try work out a solution to prevent the impending disaster? How could any one forget Bush’s Secretary of The Treasury, Paulson, urging Congress to pass an emergency bank bail out? How could any one forget John McCain trying to cancel the first presidential debate because he claimed he was going back to Washington, D.C. to try to manage an impending economic catastrophe? How could any forget the massive foreclosures that began in 2006 put picked up steam in 2007 and 2008? May be Gore Vidal was right: U.S. A. now stand for the United States of Amnesia!
By the way, I wish the documentary had highlighted the september ( or was it October) unprecedented White House meeting with Congressional leaders and the two Presidential candidates about the dire economic crisis which was on the verge of total implosion. This would answer the lies of those who claim that nothing has changed or that things have gotten worse.
That is great to hear UT. I have started to avoid reading comments pretty much anywhere else, but here because people are mean and crazy out there, but it sounds like the comments you mentioned will be worth a look.
God, I followed a link to a Hill story. The story was fine and I don’t usually read comments but they were TOXIC.
Go on and take a look. Sixty two pages and about five negatives. But those were from mentally challenged folks that can only write four words that they remember from Faux News. Young people give me hope for a better tomorrow. They are the ones that are going to go out and vote for the President this year.
oh lovely miss pat, thank you for saying that! i just registered to attend an obamarama house party next week near by a university campus. i hope the house is filled with lots more of that good energy of which you speak!
Thanks for letting us know, UTAL!
Really? I was so afraid to even look at the comments. This just made my morning. Thanks.
thanks UT. yay!
Ut, let me tell you who else is mad–every Democrat in every state where voter suppression laws are being enacted or in place. I have never seen such white hot anger on the part of Democrats nor a more burning desire to get a larger than ever turnout at the polls. The GOP spent the last three and half years appealing to an extremist base, not realizing what fires they were stoking the Democratic hearts. I’m furious at the voter suppression, and I am livid at the complete lack of GOP concern about women’s health and the blatant disrespect of our intelligence. They started this war underestimating the strength of the opposition and they’re going to learn the hard way not to mess with us.
HEADLINE: Obama Approval Jumps Higher
// The latest Allstate/National Journal Heartland Monitor poll finds President Obama’s approval rating rose to 51%, up from only 44% in each of the previous polls taken in October and December. “That’s Obama’s highest approval rating in the Heartland Monitor since the survey taken immediately after the killing of Osama bin Laden in May. Other than that, the new survey marks the first time that Obama’s approval rating in the poll has crossed the critical 50 percent threshold since September 2009.” This survey completely contradicts a CBS/NYT poll earlier this week that found Obama’s approval sinking to a new low. //
Good morning, TODville!! And thanks for this great news. We continue to make progress throughout the country. OFA is on the MOVE.
OFA IS ON THE MOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE….READY TO GO!
But, gas prices…
effing Gingrich: “When I was Speaker gas was $1.87. Now look who’s President and what the gas prices are.”
Okay, who was President when you were Speaker? A Democrat!
And what did YOU do for gas prices? Drill? Open up exploration? Lower our dependence on foreign oil?
Crickets, you bastard.
Wish we could edit our comments. PBO is already doing everything Republicans say will bring down the cost of gas. PBO would like to take ‘start up’ subsidies to oil companies and invest in the 21st century. Just like we invested in oil 100 years ago.
Damn he’s so fucking sexy.
US official confirms to @NBCNews the soldier accused of mass shootings of Afghan civilians is ‘en route’ to prison in Leavenworth, Kansas
Robney says, that he will get Puerto Rico to be the 51st state and that is how he will win Florida. By appealing to Puerto Ricans!
No, no, that’s not what he meant! He meant that he would make Cuba the 51st state.
Huh? Wait….. What?
That is once again doomed to fail – pretty much like all of Mitt’s “tactics” so far in this campaign.
Puerto Ricans are actually split. Many want to stay a Commonwealth but enjoy their current benefits of aid and citizenship.
When did he say that?
The powers of the presidency that Romney assumes are just jaw-dropping. He is running to be monarch, able to unilaterally turn territories into states and single-handedly repeal an establish law. Maybe he’ll abolish the judicial system all together and just hand out life and death sentences from his throne. Is there no end to this man’s ego?
Everyone should go to Smartypnts site, her picture this morning is just so on target. Tweet or repost here if you can. I don’t know how to do that and I have to leave and earn a few greens. 🙂
See you all later. Have a great day.
Do “journalists” not get paid if they write an Obama piece that is entirely positive/objective? Are they required to always include a sarcastic or negative zinger? I see a story on the Obama film on Chgo Trib website, written by a writer from LA Times, and I’m curious as to how it’s being reported. Reading along, so far, pretty good, fairly straight reporting. And then—–get to the end and the writer says the film wraps up with Hanks saying, “Let’s remember how far we’ve come and look forward to the work still to be done.” And the writer, for whatever reason, just has to add, “Said another way: Come on, guys. It could be worse.” I just shake my head at this kind of stuff. So unnecessary and so pandering and partisan and nasty.
I agree. Every single writer feels compelled to throw in a big dose of cynicism before they wrap it up. It’s like they’re too embarrassed to let go of their American BS press credential contentiousness. It’s beyond tiresome.
Interesting review of The Road We Traveled:
read thru the frist paragraph….that was all i wanted to read….and i don’t like that it was put on the entertainment page….but that is how things are today….
George Clooney and his father Nick, among others, including Ben Jealous, arrested outside Sudan Embassy after demonstration.
Morning mates. What a beautiful day. It’s so great to be on the right side of the grass, isn’t it?
Thought for today:
Our achievements speak for themselves. What we have to keep track of are our failures, discouragements and doubts. We tend to forget the past difficulties, the many false starts, and the painful groping. We see our past achievements as the end results of a clean forward thrust, and our present difficulties as signs of decline and decay.
Eric Hoffer (1902 – 1983)
Wow. Great quote.
After George Clooney got arrested at the Sudanese Embassy…… #FreeClooney is now trending on twitter. Women are pissed…. 😆 Twitter is hilarious. Comedians are already coming up with cracks about how much women are willing to pay to free him. 😆
hold it. whaaaat? George got arrested? huh?
Hey TOD. C-SPAN will be showing PBO’s campaign fundraiser in Chicago at 1:20PM ET / 12:20 PM CT / 10:20 AM PT today.
