Facts to Mitt Romney are like garlic to a vampire. If his lips are moving he’s lying. Anyone who lies with such ease and so consistently is morally bankrupt and dangerous. He is the perfect person to be the nominee of the Republican Party. They deserve each other.

      May 4, 2012 at 11:06 pm

That’s the Republicans choice. A sorry one and they won’t say it in public, but behind closed doors they know Romney is a disgrace. And if there are any decent Republicans out there who don’t like what their party have become, they ought to not vote for Romney, or vote for President Obama.

Honestly how can you trust Mitt Romney? He is telling them that he is a severely conservative, and his past doesn’t show that to be true. But now he is trying to change once again. How can you trust Mitt Romney?

He’s not moderate. that was the biggest lie of all, playing moderate to win in MA. He turned hard right almost immediately as soon as he was Governor. He was very unpopular by the end of his term.

We have to be very careful on the meme that he won’t be exactly what he said on the primary campaign trail. The swing voters and the whiny left will be content to think that he’ll actually be moderate and in the case of the whiny left, there “won’t be any difference.” Romney would fulfill every dream Grover Norquist and the Koch Bros. ever had. To think he would stand up to anyone and be moderate is an absurd assumption. We need to make sure that everyone we talk to understands that this is a very, very dangerous man.

Rombot has really terrible advisors. He ought to have figured out by now that he does not win these stupid attempts to bait the president. Not only does he lie through his teeth and offer no solutions, but he does it in such a juvenile way that he just seems pathetic like an awkward kid trying to act like his older brother. Since he can’t win at this game, he ought to at least try a little dignity by keeping his mouth shut. This is the sort of silly baiting that you’d expect from someone running for a much lesser office. You’d think all his untold millions would buy him savvier advice, but I guess you have to be smart enough to assess what you’re being given. The only thing Rombot has been really good at so far is energizing the president’s base.

I have no idea why Melissa Harris Perry would attempt to make a comparison between Martin Luther King, Jr, a Baptist preacher of the 1950’s and his opinion about gays, who was not running for President of the United States and Mitt Romney. Unless I misunderstood, she was suggesting that Mitt is not the only “well known” person who has been against gay rights. Again, what does a preacher of more than 50 years ago have to do with Mitt Romney who is running to be President of all the people. If MLK was against rights for gays he was wrong.

I personally have doubts still about MED. Notice when he ran down all the lies Bozo told, but when he got to the economy, he actually agreed with him, though he broke down his lies about that as well. Also, in the beginning about the “uniter” while running down the differences, he made sure to get in that he and all libruls were not pleased with PBO’s pragmatic approach. He throws s–t out there fast paced, and moves on really quickly to cover himself. That’s the intent of his quick speech. Been watching him for years. A little bit shady, IMO.

I agree. He threw Cornel West under the bus, but not Tavis Smilely. If fact, he said Tavis had given him his first “in front of the camera opportunity” – which meant he is beholding to him for that. I’ve seen pictures of Dyson with Arianna Huffington. That was enough for me.

just looked at his latest, and it has one of the favorite tricks of these supposed “fact” checkers, in regard to PBO’s latest campaign ad:

“In terms of tax breaks for outsourcers, the ad is technically right. But it failed to acknowledge one of the primary goals of territorial taxation, which is repatriation of money. This is a case of telling just part of the story while ignoring the other side — not the worst sin in our book, but not something we overlook either”

so there’s no actual lie or incorrect fact, just that the ad didn’t explain every little nuance of the issue and every bit of context in 30 seconds, to make sure republicans don’t look too bad with their blatant lies. please someone find me examples where these “fact” checkers apply this standard to republicans. just one, yet almost every single time they call PBO or democrats liars, it’s for this reason and not about straight false statements. pathetic.

        May 4, 2012 at 11:04 pm

Your bringing up the territorial tax, reminded me of this discussion on ED the other night with David Cay Johnson. These guys are just certifiable.

The Ed Show continues to dissect the Ryan Budget, and finds provisions for a “territorial tax”. Huh? What’s that? Basically, a tool to further reduce US taxes on corporate profits while creating incentives for corporations to ship American jobs offshore.
Mitt says Ryan’s plan to rob Americans is “marvelous”.
With guest David Cay Johnston, author of Free Lunch. “This (Ryan’s plan) is a redistribution plan. Take from the many, give to the already rich.”

DF, I saw your Alec corporate list on the other thread, Apotex is on the list and is a Canadian company that manufactures generic drugs. Allergan( creater of Botox, lasik eye surgery equipment etc) Georgia -Pacific Corporation is also owned by Koch brothers, Time Warner Cable(People Magazine, Entertainment Magazine, part owner of CNN, HLN also link to Huffpo).

Huffpo launched in Canadian Arianne was picture with everyone from the Conservative party here…told me everything I need to know about her. And yes don’t trust John Stewart I never forgot what he did, on the eve of our Federal Election here in Canada, he commented for the first time on Canadian politics and lied about the Paul Martin Liberal Minority Government and that lie got played on every news channel…Harper won for the first time. John Stewart IMO made that comments on purpose, because he knew how popular his show was. I lost a lot of respect for him that day.

Unfortunately, most Canadian voters don’t realize that CTV owns the right to the Daily Show, the Comedy Network and that they are a longtime supporter to the PC party…and like Fox reporters, a lot of CTV news reporters ran for political office under the Tory banner. PC party children go on to also work for the network i.e. Ben Mulroney works for CTV in Canada(co-hosting with Kelly on “Live with Kelly” this morning)…his father is the former PM of Canada…CTV owns the licensing agreement to Live with Kelly in Canada. Sorry for my rambling, I still can’t believe Canadians voted Harper in, I am just praying for next 3 years to be over quickly.

Sometimes when they are standing together, their hands are in the same position. And on some rare occasion they make the same facial gestures.

    When they PROTEST TOO MUCH…

According to a report today from Sacramento ABC affiliate News10, a private, for-profit firm calling itself Momentum Political Services, hired by the local Republican Party “to boost GOP registration ranks in key battleground communities” has turned in more than 3,100 hundred invalid voter registration cards during their recent drive.

Voter registration forms have allegedly been turned in with fake addresses, voter names that don’t exist, duplicate Social Security numbers, and party affiliations that seem to have been changed “by someone” to Republican. The head of the firm has admitted she has hired workers with criminal backgrounds, as found via Craigslist.

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) late Friday formally unveiled a deal he has struck with House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank, whose charter expires at the end of the month.

The deal is a rare instance of bipartisan cooperation in a highly polarized Congress. The bill, H.R. 2072, will be considered on the House floor under suspension of rules next week, according to Cantor’s office. Similar to a Senate Banking Committee-passed bill, the bill has a strong shot of House passage.

While the evidence suggests that temporary tax cuts can help combat recessions — temporary tax cuts were an important part of the policy response to the Great Recession — the available estimates of how taxes affect the larger economy suggest that in normal economic times any potential long-run gains from lower tax rates are largely offset if they increase the deficit,” the reported stated. “Instead of increasing saving and investment, tax cuts that result in higher government borrowing reduce funds available to invest in the private sector, reducing growth.”

Romney is loath to mention Bush on the campaign trail, for obvious reasons, but today they sound like ideological soul mates on foreign policy. Listening to Romney, you’d never know that Bush left office bogged down by two unpopular wars that cost America dearly in blood and treasure. Of Romney’s forty identified foreign policy advisers, more than 70 percent worked for Bush. Many hail from the neoconservative wing of the party, were enthusiastic backers of the Iraq War and are proponents of a US or Israeli attack on Iran. Christopher Preble, a foreign policy expert at the Cato Institute, says, “Romney’s likely to be in the mold of George W. Bush when it comes to foreign policy if he were elected.” On some key issues, like Iran, Romney and his team are to the right of Bush. Romney’s embrace of the neoconservative cause—even if done cynically to woo the right—could turn into a policy nightmare if he becomes president.

If we take the candidate at his word, a Romney presidency would move toward war against Iran; closely align Washington with the Israeli right; leave troops in Afghanistan at least until 2014 and refuse to negotiate with the Taliban; reset the Obama administration’s “reset” with Russia; and pursue a Reagan-like military buildup at home.

Washington Monthly dubbed Romney’s foreign policy vision the “more enemies, fewer friends” doctrine, which is chillingly reminiscent of the world Obama inherited from Bush.

President Obama’s widely publicized fundraiser with actor George Clooney is shaping up to be a Hollywood blockbuster.

A May 10 dinner at Clooney’s Studio City, Calif., home has sold out at 150 guests, who are expected to jointly contribute between $5 million and $6 million toward Obama’s reelection effort, people familiar with the event said. They asked not to be named because they are not authorized to speak publicly.

In addition, the Hollywood Reporter cites sources saying that the campaign expects to have raised as much as $6 million more in online donations, which were solicited as part of a nationwide contest to win a ticket to the dinner.

A haul of $12 million would arguably make the soiree the biggest single presidential fundraising event in U.S. history. Campaign sources are throwing cold water on the estimated total from Internet contributions, however, as being too high.

    Mr. Romney:

Government is at the center of [Obama’s] vision. It dispenses the benefits, borrows what it cannot take, and consumes a greater and greater share of the economy. With Obamacare fully installed, government will come to control half the economy, and we will have effectively ceased to be a free enterprise society.

Bruce Bartlett, who served as a senior economist in the Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations, was more blunt in his appraisal of Romney’s assertion that Obamacare will lead to government control of half of the economy: “This analysis is so stupid it is hard to know where to begin.” He notes:

Health spending has been rising for years for reasons unconnected to Obamacare. Why assume that all of any projected increase between now and 2020 results solely from that? Tossing in all private health spending as essentially part of government spending is fundamentally dishonest. Its only purpose appears to be to find some desperate way of lifting total spending above the 50 percent threshold. If you are going to do that, why not include every other sector of the economy subject to government control?

Although I’m ambivalent about Bill Maher, he made a good point about the importance of a 2nd term for PBO. Unfortunately Arsenio (?) came off as a bit of an ass after he said this. *sigh*

in a few hours we welcome President and Mrs Obama at the The Ohio State University campus. as luck would have it, I do not even need to drive/or ride the many buses headed there since the venue is just 2 traffic lights away! I will be using the short cuts so that I leave the road to those who really need it

Off to do the Lord’s Work – Volunteer for the PBO and FLOTUS rally.

    • May 5, 2012 at 7:53 am

Huge blessings and thank you for doing this Lord’s work. Sadly, I will be out of touch most of the day so depend on Chips to share EVERYTHING when I get home tonight. I am returning to where I grew up (northeast TN…..almost 3 hrs. each way!) to have lunch with my childhood friends. Good day to the family.

Thanks global for your work as an OFA volunteer! Looks like you’re not the only one who is fired up for the rally today. This from another fellow volunteer!

Where the hell does Chris Hayes get off saying that PBO is “risk averse” like Romney? PBO who went after Bin Laden? PBO who authorized auto industry bailout? PBO who ran for President with only one term’s experience in the senate and a non-mainstream name? Has PBO fired any gay person in his cabinet in order to please conservatives?

Meanwhile Hayes sits in his comfy MSNBC studio and can’t even stand up to his corporate overlords instructions to push anti-Obama memes?!?!? Want to talk about risk-averse?

The one thing I give this guy is consistency. He finds some way to bash or negatively critique this President every week. I read my twitter timeline every weekend and it’s the same story different week. I’ve never watched his show and never intend too. Whether its conservative or so-called progressive the media is our worse enemy.

Tell it HF, that comment rankled me too. I did a double take and just stared at him. That was definitely a WTF moment. It makes you wonder exactly why Chris Hayes felt he had to make such a bogus statement. It was classic both sides do it BS. It’s so easy for the gasbags to sit on their perches and second guess and criticize President Obama for everything. This is an important topic to discuss but that swipe at President Obama was totally unnecessary.

Haahahaha. Thanks for this Marlz. It’s incredibly funny. Will Ferrell has really used Funny Or Die as a powerful tool. The videos they’ve been rolling out about GOP anti-women, anti-LGBT, anti-minority bills and laws are funny but have an underlying serious message.

Wait a minute…that center holds about 18,000. This 35,000 number was from the outdoors event he gave in 2010.

You’re right Donna – that 35K figure seems to have been from the rally he held on the campus oval on 2010. The article didn’t say how much the Schottenstein Center holds, but Claude Gauvin seems to have assumed that it holds as many as the oval does. I tweeted him about this.

Yep. I googled the capacity of the Schottenstein Center and it says it holds approx 18,000+. I was concerned about him raising expectations beyond reality. You know how lazy our media is. Thanks for tweeting him about it.

Here is a non-snarky account with more details about our President’s Ohio rally today:

// On the program: Astronauts, DJs, soul singers, and politicians, of course:

Columbus – Supporters and members of President Obama’s Ohio campaign have announced details for the President’s Columbus rally on May 5 at The Ohio State University, the first campaign event of 2012.

“This Saturday, the President will lay out the choice this November: Are we going to continue to move forward, rebuilding an economy that’s meant to last, with a growing middle class and more Americans getting a fair shot? Or are we going to go back to the same failed policies that crashed our economy and left too many folks struggling to catch up?” said Obama for America-Ohio State Director Greg Schultz.

The rally will include a pre-program lineup featuring Ohio campaign volunteers and OSU students, local performers like soul artist Renee Dion, and elected officials such as Senator Sherrod Brown, former Senator John Glenn, former Governor Ted Strickland, and Mayor Michael Coleman. DJ “Big Man” Konata of Power 107.5 will emcee the pre-event program. //
