    From the PCTC Blog

One of the keys to our overall strategy of turning the United States into a progressive nation has to do with our understanding that we are being dominated by a group that represents a significant minority of the American population. The far right in this country represents about Bush_headupass25% of its inhabitants, at most. Yet, for 32 years — an entire generation — they’ve been running the government, and we’ve been increasingly locked out of the government altogether. We even have the most progressive president in the modern era and the single best pure politician in the last 50 yeas lashing out at “the professional left.”

And before you professional lefties start laughing at me, consider this; Barack Obama got a black man elected president of the United States, and you think the surest way to a progressive majority is by replacing “Blue Dogs” with teabaggers. We’ve been in the wilderness for 40 years; how much longer do we shoot ourselves in the foot before we figure out to aim the gun elsewhere?

If we’re so great at politics, how is it that a distinct minority of the population can come to dominate the policymaking apparatus in a democratic republic for an entire generation?

The answer is, we help them. We actually do more to damage our own prospects than they do. They don’t win, we lose.

Once again, let me explain how we help them.

poor, poor merkel. when will you realize austerity austerity austerity mantra isn’t cutting it anymore.

You do not need to understand German to get the message after the elections in Germany’s largest state, North Rhine-Westphalia.

It was a “Desaster” or a “Debakel” or a “Katastrophe” for Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union, depending on which paper you read.

In any language, it was a drubbing for the CDU – “a bitter, painful defeat” according to the Chancellor herself.

As Peter Altmaier, the party’s chief whip in the Bundestag, put it: “This result exceeds our worst fears.”

It is true that it was only a regional election, but NRW, as it is commonly called, has a population of 18 million (nearly one in four Germans), so how they vote says much about which way the national wind blows.

The Media Narrative On Obama 2012 Is BS, Here’s Why

Over the last 10 years, I’ve learned that the media narrative rarely has any relation to reality. In 2002-3, the media marched along with the Bush administration’s flimsy case for war in Iraq. In 2004, they echoed his message that he was a competent commander-in-chief despite the death toll in Iraq and the refusal to modify the failed strategy there.

    and another

The Wall Street Journal Would Rather Obama Not Campaign

The Wall Street Journal‘s Kimberly Strassel is up in arms. Ms. Strassel is just OUTRAGED that the Obama campaign is pointing out the monied interests bankrolling Romney’s presidential campaign and others are looking into their odd behavior. I mean, the nerve of them! Using publicly available campaign finance reports to … wait, what is the concern again?

Eric Cantor’s unpopularity in Virginia is gender blind: Only 28% of men and 27% of women have a favorable opinion of Cantor Across age groups, Cantor’s unpopularity holds constant. Just 25% of young voters have a favorable opinion of Cantor, and only 30% of voters older than 65 like Cantor.

Islamabad shut its Afghan border to Nato supplies after US air strikes killed 24 soldiers in November, provoking a new crisis in relations on top of the outcry from the US raid that killed Osama bin Laden the previous May.

But Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar said on Monday that it was time to “move on”, conceding a key demand from the West in time for Pakistan to attend the Nato summit in Chicago on Sunday and Monday.

Pakistan has called in vain for an end to US drone strikes targeting Taliban and al Qaeda militants on its soil, and a formal apology for the November killings.

But analysts say Pakistan has no choice but to reopen the border when US cash is needed to help boost its meagre state coffers, at a time when major Nato discussions are underway affecting its own strategic future.

The couple of times I’ve noticed the Romney “poster” that Chips used at the top of this thread, I’ve thought we really need to call in an exorcist to take care of him. He’s the scariest guy to come around, even scarier than some of McCain’s faces and antics and thoughts and W’s stupidity, since Richard Nixon. And I’m old enough to remember how scary Nixon could appear. These people have dark inner cores. Here, here, canadabarb4obama! I am with you 100%! I am shamelessly one of the last people to post on this site because by the time I come back from work, here in San Diego, it’s past bed time in the East. Like you, I always read all the comments, mainly because I learn so much from the really smart people who post comments and valuable links on this blog. By the time I get around to posting, it’s in the wee ours in the morning in places like NY, MD and DC!

Bobfr! Bravo for your courageous and relentless tweets that continue to expose the liar, Mitt Romney. I personally think that OFA should employ you and utilize your exceptional communication skills.

The article on Rebekah Wade Brooks is here:

She will be getting jail time on this one, and probably her husband as well. I remember he was caught trying to dump a laptop at some point. Some of her security people and her chauffeur were charged and one of them might do some talking. Brooks took 7 boxes of items out of the building – pc’s? laptops? files? Getting closer to Rupert.

I am still all puzzle with this CBS/NYT poll. I would like for these people to explain the question they asked, who they asked, Republican,Democrat, Independent, etc.,etc., All of a sudden women voters have jump ship and gone to Romney, well why is that? Romney and the Republicans policies have not change, and the reason the President had such a lead was because of these policies. From now till the fall I am not paying any attention to these polls coming out every other week, number one because I don’t trust the media. CNN says the President has a 16 point lead with women, CBS/NYT says Romney leads among women 46-43. And watch how the CBS/NYT poll will get all the attention.

Another thing I was thinking of, I can not understand how any black pastor would tell anyone to not vote for President Obama. Life is already hard for alot of Black people, and do they think it will get better if the Republicans get in control, with all the cuts and programs they want to get rid of. The black communities will not be better off with the Republicans in charge.

Hi annie, this same black pastor voted for McCain in 2008. And black people voted for Obama 95% in 08 – so he is not as influential as he (or the MSM) thinks.

      • May 15, 2012 at 7:51 am

Because they are Conservatives, just like Michael Steele!

      • May 15, 2012 at 8:34 am

I wish people understand this is not easy for some black people, because all they every had is GOD to keep hope alive in the face of hate, and this will be going against GOD word about marriage (man and woman). This is bigger then civil right this is GOD, but they will come around it take a little longer because they feel that its going against (God word) and that’s a big deal. We will get there one day,but I wish he waited to after winning then push for a bill in congress for same sex marriage.

(Same is said for all race) why do they vote for Republicans

it’s a pro-republican/nut bagger poll. I personnally don’t pay much attention to what the ‘polls’ say. They never regulate them so you’ll never know who they really poll and how honest they are about the findings. It’s also real easy to fudge the numbers to reflect their beliefs/opinions.

Polls are just for time passing. If any of these had been true, we would be talking about reelection prezinent hillary.

Joe Scar is so happy today—-because now they have another poll—Gallup/USA Today—showing Willard up 9 points on President Obama. Polls/Schmolls, but I have to admit these are making me increasingly uncomfortable. Ugh.

      May 15, 2012 at 7:33 am

I’m not uncomfortable OR surprised by this poll – in fact, I anticipated that most- if not ALL the “polls” this week would be suddenly showing Romney doing better than PBO. I also believe that most of the pro-Romney polls of late are MANUFACTURED by subtly tinkering with the sample.

When gas prices were up the media (and their pollster friends) manipulated the polling samples to push a “high gas prices hurting Obama” narrative. They decreased the number of Democrats and increased the number of Republicans. In April, right after the Hillary/Rosen flap, they again tried to push a poll that PBO was hurt by Rosen’s comment – this time they made sure to not overtly mess wit h the R’s and D’s, but to change the types of D’s they were polling, with mostly conservative, evangelical white D’s and fewer urban, non-christian or minority D’s.

Now that he announced his support for SSM, the same media/polling outfits are back again, trying to push a narrative that his position on SSM is hurting him. The NYT/CBS poll again used a skewed conservative sample and did not even provide the racial breakdown of the sample. This gallup/USA poll is to be taken with the appropriate amount of salt. IT’s BOGUS – it’s all media driven and should be summarily ignored or challenged.

The polls are ridiculous ……this is getting dumb. There is NO WAY Willard is ahead with women.

They should be laughed at……the inside the beltway pundits should be nominated for Razzy Awards.

Tony Perkins Focus on the Family is listed as a HATE GROUP….yet we see his face on every news channel …every day and he is treated like some kind of important political person.

I am disgusted with the media

HAHAHA..which is it media? Last week and up to yesterday you told us that PBO would lose Black supporters because of SSM. Now you tell us that Blacks have shifted 13% in favor of SSM in just one week since PBO’s announcement? Which is it? Stick to one narrative, please.

// GROUPS – One notable difference is by race. Just 41 percent of African-Americans supported gay marriage in ABC/Post polls in mid-2011 and early 2012. Yet 54 percent express a favorable view of his position on the issue in this poll – suggesting that, for some, allegiance to Obama may have prompted a rethink on the issue itself. //

So, Da Blacks and Da Women love Robney, they just love Him.
I did a poll myself, I know these things and I want to get on Teeveee!
Oh, and it’s bad news for Obama Day, ten fold!

  47. May 15, 2012 at 8:04 am

One thing about these polls! Nationally, they are unfair. Here is how. In the ruby red Systes, the President is down 40-60 points. But in these red Stares, you can only Lise once.
In the blue States the President wins anywhere from 2-20points.
So, these national polls are frivolous, and easily augmented by polling more indes in the South, than the North. One thing is for sure, the Ruby Red South, hates the President! Reason? You know why? Racism, hate radio, smears and Fox News!
    Do you follow?

  48. May 15, 2012 at 8:12 am

It’s funny! The Ny Times said that they wanted the President to go even further and think that Gay Marriage should be Federal.
But, Today they are saying their Poll says that the Presidents announcement on Gay marriage is dubious. You can’t have it both ways.

  49. May 15, 2012 at 8:18 am

    Here is the USA/today Gallup-

It ain’t that bad! Sone really good news actually, about economy.
This is somewhat encouraging! It’s the Ny Times poll that has everybody scratching their heads!

I hope people on TOD remember that someone issued this warning last tuesday : because of PBO’s announcement in favor of Same Sex Marriage, we should expect polls to come out during the next few days showing that suddenly PBO is loosing his support. my caution to you all is to focus on whats ahead and hang on tight for the bumpy ride.

Yes, we have to work like PBO is 20 points behind because the hate and big money machines are not yet in overdrive but they will come out
