oh thank you so much dotster and a4alice. I bought my condo (in a 30 story highrise originally built in the sixties) in 1989 and then bought the condo next door and combined them in 2005. The combined rehab turned out really nice and with the view of the lake and downtown I have it made in the sky. 🙂 Here’s one last pic – it’s of the guest bathroom. I love to design and the three tier colored glass shower wall was a fun project (albeit not so fun for the contractor!). http://instagram.com/p/Sbbgj6zMPI/
Didn’t like the joy-squelching tone of this. I mean, c’mon. Millions are thrilled to bursting about Obama’s re-election. This made the whole thing sound like ‘ho hum’, who cares?’
Please send Ms. Stolberg a note saying that she is a joy-squelcher! I wrote her to say us regular citizens are more thrilled with this election/inauguration than we were by the first one. The media is already trying to deny the President and all of us our congratulations for winning.
I totally agree, Dotster. I call BS on the whole tone of this article. There are millions of us who are thrilled about this inauguration and are as excited as we were in 2008, if not more so. And, for the record, the weather WAS bad in Charlotte and it would have been the height of irresponsibility to hold the final night in an open air forum, which they could easily have filled, since they had to turn so many people away that night. As for election night, the president said that it had to be indoors this year because the balmy Chicago weather in 2008 was unlikely to be repeated and he didn’t want people freezing as they waited for results. Reality and common sense are not downers, they’re how we each have to live our lives. Leave it to the media to turn every decent thing the president does into a negative.
Miss. Thang must have been living on another planet during the first inauguration…”after the two men flubbed the words during the public ceremony”…excuse me, but it Roberts who flubbed the words….she could have kept this article where it began…in her negative head!
This article made me laugh so hard because it totally reminded me of the faux election polls, which tunred out to be OH SO WRONG! People are excited about PBO second inauguration because it will be his last one. I imagine the crowd will be even larger. I’m trying to figure out a way for me and my husband to attend. My sister went to the last one and I imagine she and her friends will be going again.
I have the same sentiments, Maureen Dowd has another Obama hating column today as well just read it same article she has been righting for 2 years now, getting old. She claims Obama should learn about leadership from RGIII the Redskins QB who has a 5-6 record and needs to kiss peoples asses like Bill Clinton did. My last time I’ll read her junk for a while http://t.co/cL4adE0V If u want to waste 3 minutes but I think I already saved you the time……
Y’know, I’m really confused by this line of attack, that PBO doesn’t schmooze with pols whose support he’s gonna need, not even Dems. I often see it as just an attack on him. Then i read some fair minded progressive folks say something similar. I don’t really know where the truth is. It’s sad but we can’t expect elected officials to act like adults. Look at Christie gushing about riding on Ariforce 1 and PBO arranging an introduction to New Jersey’s own Springsteen. In all of this gossipy bull, I’m only interested in one thing: PBO gets his agendas to become law of the land and solidify his legacy. If it takes shmoozing, I say schmooze away.
The problem with this line of attack is the needy SOB’s in the Acela Corridor are not used to someone not giving two shits about how D.C. works. They also complain that Michelle doesnt invite spouses over for cocktails also, you know the old way of doing things. Now you have all the genius’s after watching Lincoln telling Obama “lessons” he should learn same line of attack http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50135731n Remember Obama didnt come up through the DNC that’s how he beat Hillary you know the old way of doing things…
One more thing Obama should keep OFA intact which I think they are going to do and just scare the shit out of Dems telling them they will primary them if they dont get in line. Will save time from having to “schmooze” you know what I mean.
I say fruck ’em all, all of them. They have always had to make up things about Senator and President Barack Obama, and it’s because neither he nor Michelle have ever felt like they were beholden to let them know what their plans are. The president has those whom he relies on who have his back like Axelrod, Pfieffer, and Messina. He learned a long time ago to choose his friends and associates wisely. I love the idea that the Obamas limit their contact with the DC socialites and the members of Congress and their spouses. They know poisonous snakes when they see them, and it’s always best to keep in mind that snakes will bite and the venom of some can kill you. Keeping them at arms length means that the personal doesn’t have an opportunity to interfere with the professional and political. I have no doubt that if they mixed professional with personal relationships that some of the snakes wouldn’t miss any opportunity to stab PBO and FL Michelle in the back. I don’t trust any of the MSM, the republicans, or the DC socialites.
majii – perfect – everyone said they wanted change in Washington – but the GOP and their supporters whinge non stop when it happens. I keep laughing at all the lobbyists who have no chance of buying results for their clients. Be interesting to see how low their incomes go over the next 4 years. With the clients paying a fortune for the (non) defeat of PBO, those clients may begin to realize they can no longer BUY government actions/legislation.
Bravo, majii! I totally share your sentiments. The beltway media people and some needy politicians are either consumed with envy or with hatred of the President. As far as I am concerned, they need to wake up and smell the coffee because we the people don’t give a f***k about them being needy and wanting to socialize with the President. Guess what, everywhere President Obama goes — hear in this country or abroad — people are ready and excited to be with him. I don’t know if there has ever been another President who was hugged by ordinary people as much as President Obama has. The needy politicians and media people who have tried to peddle a false meme that President Obama is aloof are routinely shamed by children who are so comfortable with the President and love to be in his presence. You want to know how warm and personable President Obama is: Just watch his interaction with children and young people.
By the way Majii, to support your point about not trusting them, President Obama played golf with Boehner and both seemed to be having a good time. Guess what? That did prevent Boehner from betraying him about the grand bargain they had agreed on.
just realized I wrote “righting” instead of writing for those inquiring minds I’m on my 7th beer my alma mater Auburn is getting crushed 49-0 to Alabama please forgive me……….
Also…..buying and asking for products made in USA is 1001% of keeping more folks employed here in USA. 5% uptick….can easily help create close to 3M jobs.
Now I bet that bookstore owner’s business goes through the roof this Christmas. All the small bookstores in our area have closed down and we actually have to travel outside of the county or order online to a book. It’s a real shame, takes away all the joy of seeing and feeling a book before you buy it.
In my second alcohol induced stuper this week I didnt see UTaustin had already posted pool report! I give up, going back to posting interesting articles about the only way I can contribute to society this afternoon.
The “left” is a very wide definition. I consider myself “left”, as is almost anyone I know and worked for PBO. But I’m not Michael Moore “left” and probably not even MHP, so a lot of people call themselves “left” and think they’re the only “left”.
I think she means the segment of the “left” who have been very vocal in cable TV media, blogs, etc and are highly critical of this President, long on threats and ultimatums, short on real support, reinforcement and gratitude – the MMFlint types.
Yea, I’m pretty sure that what she meant. I like her, she’s smart and her heart is really in the right place. She can be a little naive about politics and sometimes childish, but it’s ok, we need good hearted smart idealists. She’s no MM or the twin clowns West/Tavis.
The people who ‘carried the President’ are the people who worked their butts off for OFA and various Unions, who gathered data, registered voters, knocked on doors, phone banked, drove people to the polls and, ultimately, in many cases after standing in line for hours, Voted.
MHP and other self-overvalued whiners wouldn’t know what that means if it hit them upside the head.
As noted yesterday evening (and she, huffypuffy, various firebaggers, MMFlint, Kos, et al were certainly ‘in mind’ as I composed it):
For 4yr #PBO faced GOP Obstruction & emoprogs. Outcome – 1 of 4 Pres in a Century with 2 >50% Victories. Catch a clue, whiners. cc @JoeBiden
You are correct, Bobfr. I can’t believe all the familiar whining that has already re-emerged. A couple kind words pre-election is all many of these emoprogs could manage and now, once again, right back in idiotic familiar mode. Not working in a team effort or helping to push forward but again—-they are obsessed with fault-finding, making everything more difficult. You would think they would have learned, but oversized egos, overstuffed self-importance cripples them.
IMO…MHP and ‘them’ are sad unhappy people…underneath their advanced degrees, intellect, prestigous jobs, high profile, are little people who more than likely experienced hurt and disappointment which left them to see the (mostly) negative in the world, life, and other people because that what they see in themselves…they very seldom see joy, happiness, beauty…MHP didn’t even see the beauty in the most tweeded (??) picture of President and the First Lady. Bless their hearts….
Right you are. Joy-Ann Reid last week, pretty much said that to someone on Hardball with Chris Matthews. It was was fantastic…..for they..the guest and Matthews were belittling the election and the victory and Joy-Ann Reid truly schooled them. I ended up calling MSNBC and registered my praise for her and my scorn on Matthews and guest.
Your Tweet is to the point and Very Factual. With you Bobfr, nothing, but the best.
Bobfr, thank you so much. You are always on point. That is it. We push them back, and we will Not allow them to steal our joy in no way these next 4 years. Just will not. HZ
Bob, you are absolutely right on. The campaign people I worked with day in and out would be surprised to be referred to as ‘left’ of anything. They represented all ages, all income levels, all points on the political spectrum. We had Republicans fed to the teeth with their party, conservative Dems, a few apolitical types who were scared of Romney and appalled by the GOP, a whole bunch of middle of the road Dems and some geniuine Progressives. We didn’t label each other, we just kept carrying on. At one point I told one of the hardest working volunteers that I admired her dedication and she said, “well, we gotta get him back to the White House.” And that summed it up. Work til you drop, but get the job done. All the media people who attach so much self-importance to their every utterance are so many fleas in the grass to the worker bees who get the job done. Most of them don’t pay attention to these people and would have trouble recognizing them if they came to their door.
Absolutely, Jackie! And, you and your colleagues (and all our Labor Union partners) will be the ones to stand shoulder to shoulder WITH the President as we build a more perfect Union the next 4 years, turn the House vibrant BLUE in 2014 and more!
Excellent comment so thought it best to try to enlighten Ms MHPerry …
Thanks, Bobfr. As one of those OFA workers it is nice to know people realize what we helped accomplish. There is some real power in OFA. We will still be working to help the President accomplish his agenda. Boots on the ground, neighbor to neighbor is the most effective way to get things done.
For the past 5 plus years I’ve been doing 99% of my shopping with small businesses – either online or locally. At first I was doing it just because I CANNOT TOLERATE big stores – too many choices and monster aisles and screaming kids; everything is too big and loud. Now, ever since the recession, I do it for those same reasons but also to purposely support small business.
Last year most of my gifts for family and boyfriend and coworkers were from a local chocolate shop in my neighborhood. This year I will do the same and also give out jars of honey from my brother’s honeybee farm in Appleton Wisconsin (which I visited and bought several jars from him when he and I canvassed for the president the week before the election). It’s all so FUN this year!! Thank you President Barack Hussein Obama for the best real THANKSGIVING ever!
Have done the same for years, forus, in addition to the fact that many in the family, instead of giving gifts to each other, make donations to favorite local not-for-profit organizations & The Nature Conservancy.
@forus50-wow, what a role model. I am going to try to get back in the swing of local shopping. I have a hard time convincing my husband who only looks at the price. I guess everytime I do shop local is better than nothing. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hey Family!
Doing our part for Small Business Saturday. The daughter of a friend of mine recently opened a gluten free bakery. Going by to pick up a loaf delicious olive bread!
HI all, commented once or twice back in the spring as a distraction from working on my PhD defense (got it done!) Since then lurked when there was/is time, just soaking in the community goodness. I know a lot of people have issues with Chris Hayes, but this post at his msnbc blog was really spot on. It’s old, so it may even have been posted before, but if so, there may be others like me who didn’t see it.
A toast to the organizers
On Tuesday night, after the race had been called for President Obama, the first call I made was to my brother Luke…[snip]
Sixty to ninety hours a week, 52 weeks a year for five years, my brother worked to get Barack Obama elected president, and then from his perch as the Nevada state director this time around, to get him re-elected. I’m biased of course, but to me, Tuesday’s victory was Luke’s victory as much it was anyone else’s.
Luke and the thousands like him: organizers of every hue and background and creed, in states across the union working preposterously long hours doing the grueling, sometimes comically mundane labor of making democracy work: calling people, knocking on doors, sending emails, sitting through endless meetings and conference calls and sorting columns on spread sheets, and buying office supplies (in bulk, or slightly used so as to come in under budget), negotiating leases for field offices, getting yelled at by disgruntled volunteers, getting yelled at by stressed-out bosses, getting yelled at by diva-esque local officials. http://tv.msnbc.com/2012/11/10/a-toast-to-the-organizers/
thanks maradine for your comments and for posting the link to his blog. I can’t say he isn’t annoying to me on tv but I did like what he wrote very much. In that post he has the video of the marriage equality win (which was razor thin) in my former home state of Minnesota. It’s about the 5th time I watched it and even though I am a recent convert (like POTUS) to the cause this video makes me tear up every damn time.
People like your amazing brother are the ones who ‘carried’ the President. Not the emoprogs.
The next time anyone here hears or reads about an emoprog taking credit for the President’s re-election, ask them how many calls they made, how much money did they donate and on how many doors did they knock? If the answer doesn’t measure up, tell them to STFU. Period.
Victory has a 100 fathers, but defeat is an orphan. Paraphrasing JFK.
I don’t mind one bit. What I have no tolerance for are people that only supporters selectively as if pres Obama is a product they have gotten on a discount or on sale that they can easily do without when the going gets tough. Those who try so hard to qualify their support……I totally ignore…….MMoore is one such person. West and Tavis are another. Lieberman and Byah….are such people.
However, those who are 55-70% supporters, like sen Webb…..I don’t always get exercised about them. The 50% supporters, get on my last nerve.
This is an excerpt from Chris Hayes’ blog on msnbc.com – he’s talking about his brother Luke who was the Obama state director for the campaign in Nevada. 🙂
‘ On the announcement of the second term for President Obama we celebrate the four years of stellar style statements made by the first lady Michelle Obama. ‘
I have never been able to stomach mealy mouths Jonathan Alter or Howard Fineman. They make my BS detector go off every time I see/hear something they’ve said/written. I consider them to be the ultimate DC insiders who feel that instead of telling the truth, they have to adopt a “both sides do it” and/or they feel they have to tell a lie to maintain their journalist/pundit integrity. For these reasons, I consider them to be cowards and not worth my paying attention to.
I am a black female who has no love for her, either, CEB. My main reason for not liking her is her inability/unwillingness to stand up for the right things. She has a lot of power and influence but refuses to use any of it to tell the GOPers that their policies are wrong for the country. She has decided to go along to get along. I’m glad she’s being savaged in the comments in the article she wrote.
Thanks Chipsticks. I wasn’t sold on the shirt thing but the third to last photo and the last photo both look like they are straight out of a fashion mag.
truly, the rethugs who hate paying taxes should consider that this guy is basically taking money from their pockets. oh, but i forgot–they don’t pay taxes, we do. never mind. we vote.
You would have thought that Morsi learned something by talking with President Obama, but no, his first success after reaching a cease-fire deal is to act like some two-bit despot by granting himself unprecedented power. Nice going Morsi it was nice meeting you, enjoy your parting gifts and thanks for playing.
Well, just think, the right wing media and by contrast the left wing media, are told to divide the Country.
I don’t even think they have allegiance, except to their own Paychecks.
Back to Golfing…
That is all.
that is the absolute truth, bob. the more we inquire about working conditions, the more we question sources, the more these giant, impersonal companies will have to look past this quarter’s bottom line to the long-term benefits that accrue to the companies which start to get it. we are one world. we are one people. you hurt our brothers and sisters, you destroy the planet, and we will not give you our money.
There you go again, Bobfr, speaking TRUTH to every one who would care to listen. This the TRUTH that the auto maker, Henry Ford, understood so well when he decided to treat his workers well and pay them a decent wage. Without his workers who ended up buying the cars they produced –hence consumers– his company might not have been as profitable as it was. Guess what, if consumers stopped buying products from Walmart, the Walmart billionaires would not be able to save jobs let alone create jobs. Without consumers the Walmart family would not be able to continue raking in billions of dollars while they continue to treat their workers like s**t.
Thanks DF for sharing this. I took the Kaiser foundation quiz. about the Obama Care. Obviously, because I learn so much from the people at TOD, I got all ten questions right, which was better than 99.6% of the people who took the quiz. What was so appalling was that the overwhelming majority who took the quiz still believe that ACA set’s up a government run health care to compete with private insurance health care.
good read–i think pbo’s first term was about putting out all the fires started by gwb & the rethugs. now he’s poised to work on his own agenda, and because he was honest in his campaign, he has a mandate to do exactly what he wants.
Susanne, President Obama’s record of achievements in his first term is, in my humble opinion, one of the best in U.S. history. I think he did more than just “put out all the fires started by gwb & the rethugs.”
you’re right, nathan. he did amazing work. but he had to make stabilizing the economy his #1 priority, and all the rethug resistance kept the economy in crisis mode far too long.
Wow, good article. I’m shocked whenever a major publication writes an in depth article on POTUS and it doesn’t have some of the facts wrong or isn’t a whine fest or cynical. This was as straightforward as it gets.
You made an executive decision in the weeks before the Election that had a very positive impact on the quality of the wonderful TOD community, and on our ability to focus energy on re-electing the President & Democrats. We have major battles ahead to advance the vision of President Obama and to make America a better place for everyone.
So, a small suggestion, we know the whiners will whine and the NEWSTAINERS will do everything they can to distract, embroil, etc. Rather than providing them bandwidth for amplification of their junk, or in any way enabling a ‘sky is falling’ reaction to their blatant agenda, TOD becomes known as a place that will fiercely oppose their nonsense.
That’s not to say that if the President advances something that legitimate critique is warranted (and necessary) is in any way inappropriate; that debate and delivering constructive advice to him would be discouraged. We all know the difference between critique and ideological hackery advanced by the delusional, the arrogant, the incessant whiners that are MHP’s ‘left.’
Hiya Bob, no worries, Firebaggers will always be as as unwelcome here as Teabaggers – in fact, I loathe Teabaggers a little less. Nothing’s changed on that front. Thanks Bob.
Thanks Chips and Bobfr for this internal memo. You guyz . . . . awesome. Educating the citizens of the United States.
Read all about it, right ~here~, folks!
Hey friends, I’ve asked these questions couple of times but no answer yet. Maybe the answers aren’t yet known. 🙂 One of the questions is from a friend, but I would also like to know. How did PO do with non-evangelical Protestants? Remember Rachel had a chart of how he did with all other religious groups, but did not include that group. Second question: How did he do with the military and more specifically, the (current) active duty? Thanks in advance if anyone knows either of these.
On the military vote, I don’t think we’ll see that for quite some time yet. Many if not most of the military vote absentee ballot and the vast majority of states are not done counting. The last figure I saw this week only TWO states had actually certified their results. I am interested in that figure as well after having a very heated discussion with a Republican on the military vote and PBO.
When I received my first paycheck from then Interstate Bakeries in 1999 it had a memo stapled to it. The memo announced that Wonder had just had the most productive quarter in baking history. It stated that the health of the company and brand had never been better. The break room was buzzing with excitement because our contract was soon to be up for renegotiation and this would surely mean smooth sailing. A few weeks later we got the ‘oops’ letter. Turns out it was all an ‘accounting’ error and the company was failing miserably.
Conveniently though, CEO Charles Sullivan and the board managed to sell their stock before word got out about the bad news. No jail time of course. In fact, Sullivan was brought back as a consultant after his resignation. Enron happened a few years later and at the bakery we were amazed how much attention they got compared to us.
Read the rest…it will make you angry, but read it anyway. This is NOT ok.
doesn’t it? I’m not sure that me as the person I am with all my foibles and impatience could do it. But I mean I could TRY I just don’t think I’d be super successful! 😀 And besides that Bob, I feel like I got a lot of yelling to do!
the rethugs can only become viable governing partners if they completely rethink their guiding principles, then change them! yes. change their beliefs. then they will obviously get rid of their elected representatives, in national office and state offices. that’s the path to viability, and the only path.
sick to death of everybody feeling sorry for them!! they lost because they were WRONG ABOUT
EVERYTHING!
Throughout the campaign I followed Nate’s statistics but not his pundit explanations – He is hopeless at when and why things are happening – rather like Bill Kristol, he always gets it wrong – but the Maths – that is his game.
Kinda looks like he rolled out of bed while suffering a very bad hang over.
But seriously, why couldn’t he show this personal side of his life throughout his campaign?
Me thinks his campaign managers really effed up. And I’m so happy they effed up! 🙂
As Jim Messina explained – you have to have the candidate – Romney’s campaign had a fool – who thought he could buy an election – most of the campaign was run according to Romney – they learned at the end – if you don’t reach the Romney goal – you are instantly fired – making his people pay for their ride home on election night – Romney revenge – all his life – this is what he does.
Why he now wants people to think he is a real person – who knows – but it has meaning to Romney – everything he does is related to his plans for himself.
yes, they’re about to open the ironing board and sit down to a dinner of canned beans on day-old bread. sorry, joy, but i’d rather not see their smarmy faces here.
Did you sleep easier the night Obama got re-elected?
RD: Yes.
If Obama could accomplish just one thing in the next four years, what should it be?
RD: He should do whatever he feels he has to do. He obviously doesn’t have to worry about being re-elected so he should just stick to it. Whatever he does will be in the best interests of people because he’s a good person and his heart’s in the right place.
Have you ever met him?
RD: A few times, yeah. He’s a good guy – you can tell that whether you meet him or not.
This is the kind of comment I deeply admire: “He should do whatever he feels he has to do, etc.” Thank you, Mr. DeNiro.
That is similar to a comment from Al Gore, responding to a question around ’08 about what he’d advise the President to do (paraphrased): “Oh, I would hesitate to give him any advice. He’s doing so well.”
PBO DOESN’T NEED ANY FREAKIN’ ADVICE, AMERICA! Thank you.
His supporters well understand that – the GOP RWNJs in congress need to hear it – over and over – also too the pundits – so glad PBO ignores them – wonderful.
It makes me angry every time I think of how Rick Scott and the republicans in FL tried to stop groups like the League of Women Voters from registering new voters for the 2012 elections, Susanne, because I remember how my parents struggled to vote in GA in the 1950s and 1960s before the Voting Rights Act was enacted in 1965. There is no depth to which they’ll refuse to stoop to keep people from voting. I love, love, love the idea that the league is teaching average people how to have their voices heard by their senators and representatives in Congress.
Remember, all of their lying cheating, and using their legislative powers and gerrymandering to deny the vote was to no avail. Just the opposite in fact. People woke up from their complacency and became more active in exercising and protecting their rights. We will take our anger and use it to be the type of citizens that PBO spoke of. I have long admired this group and am thrilled that they are continuing the fight to educate and to empower the ordinary citizen. I live in Florida and it is my mission to work to get Scott and the other thugs out of office.
I forgive green sweatshirt guy I trashed earlier from a photo posted of him looking sketchy….. He seems to be impressed that prez came prepared probly a repub who watches Fox “news” got out of the bubble .
nevermind there are two green sweatshirt guys second one is still sketchy he was the one in the photo.. maybe same person I’m drunk somebody settle this for me plz?????????
This impersonator Reggie Miller is a slimy opportunistic rat…
The RNC hired him often to entertain them at their conventions with skits that degraded President and Mrs Obama including showing them as becoming some old black ghetto sitcom characters as they age…
OMG, I just spent the last 1/2 hour reading some of the comments to Condoleeza Rice’s post in WaPo. Wow. It’s so great that Americans (and some comments are pissed off people in the Middle East) are speaking out loud and clear to past and current lies. I have no idea why she thought this would be a good idea to write an article criticizing the Obama administration on Syria. Doesn’t she know she has ZERO credibility?! Astoundingly dense but then I always thought she was that…
If you have a minute look at a few of these comments; people are still really, really pissed off at how the Bush administration cost this country lives, money and good will with the rest of the world.
‘ She was taken under the wing of George P. Shultz (Ronald Reagan’s Secretary of State from 1982–1989), who was a fellow at the Hoover Institution. Shultz included Rice in a “luncheon club” of intellectuals who met every few weeks to discuss foreign affairs.[19] In 1992, Shultz, who was a board member of Chevron Corporation, recommended Rice for a spot on the Chevron board. Chevron was pursuing a $10 billion development project in Kazakhstan and, as a Soviet specialist, Rice knew the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. She traveled to Kazakhstan on Chevron’s behalf and, in honor of her work, in 1993, Chevron named a 129,000-ton supertanker SS Condoleezza Rice.[19] During this period, Rice was also appointed to the boards of Transamerica Corporation (1991) and Hewlett-Packard (1992). ‘
now let’s see, why would someone on the board of chevron corp take an interest in the middle east? and what would that interest be? and why in heaven’s name should we listen to her?
yes, i’m gratified to see the wapo comments are as disparaging of her as if we wrote them ourselves. but i just reeeeally wish she wasn’t treated as an expert by wapo in the first place. it’s like hiring the fox to advise on the design of the hen house.
yeah I agree susanne and many commenters asked the same thing “why is WaPo giving her an opportunity to write anything on foreign policy?” Someone suggested it might be similar to Mitt Romney’s “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” hoping it works out better for her. The weird thing is is that she is wrong on some basic historical facts that she writes about and doesn’t suggest WHAT should be done in Syria; she merely suggests “America must act.” What a con artist neocon; and she can call herself a wealthy neocon thanks to the thousands who needlessly died in her and her “husband’s” war.
This is a typical comment:
How childish. Secretary Rice is now trying to blame Syria for the Bush failures in Iraq.
Hey woman, why don’t you go buy some Ferregamo shoes and let people who aren’t responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands in the Middle East decide what’s best going forward. You have no credibility, have never once demonstrated competence, and your lack of honor is legendary. No matter what happens from here, those calling the shots can rest easy knowing they could not possibly make things worse than you and your team of crackpot neocon as$hats already has.
Bravo, Bobfr! You realize the three of them never venture to go overseas any more. The best GWB has done is to go to Canada and the Cayman Islands. I don’t think either Rice or Cheney or Rumsfeld or GWB want to risk going abroad to countries where they may be arrested and tried for war crimes. Compare that to how freely former Democratic Presidents, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, travel overseas and are warmly welcomed in many countries.
I think this statement is as important and true as anything in this letter—-
“the world’s best parents very rarely end up with the world’s most irresponsible children”
It is closer to reality than many would like to say – myself included. We are taught never to be “disappointed” with our children – they are their own persons – not for us to have expectations they cannot achieve. The disappointments (and they are real) are usually suffered in silence as many rescue their loved ones from self inflicted (but so understandable) life changing events.
What I have learned – nothing that happens is worse than the complete breakdown of a parent/child relationship. Rather like in politics, some discussions are avoided – so the love can remain.
And he is the “best” spokesman the GOP has on foreign affairs – we should all thank Sarah Palin for ensuring this man was never elected to the Presidency.
Guess who’s on tommorow McCain FOX, Lindsey Graham ABC, Peter King NBC all lead guests. Thats why the Sunday shows are worthless. Made for blowhards to all tell each other how important they are including especially the hosts. Schieffer has 4 historians but the same blowhards John Meachmem Bob Woodward Doris is great Evan Thomas writes e-books w/ Mike Allen. At least there’s UP
Have to think and study for a long time to find the positives about Mrs Palin – and thank you again and again Ms Chipps for the sanity amid the hand wringers – you are my one and only news source for the wonder of PBO – even my local news (Australia) told me it was so so so close – they drank the coolaid – sigh
You know 99ts, I think half the problem worldwide was that everyone trusted Gallup, so believed either Romney would win or PBO would scrape home. I’d love to think it’ll be the last time they trust Gallup, but probably not. Thanks for the kind words 99ts, appreciated!
Hey people of TODville. Hope you all had a great thanksgiving. I went out of state to visit with family and had a spectacular time. Of course all are die hard O’bots so great conversations and no one was shy about their support or admiration. Lots of great stories from relatives in Ga, NY, Phillie & CT recounting their efforts in the months leading up to the election and stories of celebrations. It warmed the cockles of my heart.
On the way down saw lots of cars with ObamaBiden bumper stickers and just a few for R&R. The funniest one was an elder gentleman in a car with a McCain/Palin sticker right next to a R&R sticker, right next to a Scott Brown sticker on the highway in Mass. I thought “way to show ppl what a loser you are, bud” He gave me a good laugh for sure. I shot him a huge smile as I drove past. Thought of giving him the 4 finger salute (you know, for 4 more years) but decided to give him a break.
I’ve been speed reading my way through 3 days worth of posts. Loved the rehash of last week. Loved the 10 things leading to the election. I agree with all the things everyone noted. All so true, all so important in creating the perfect election storm.
I do have to add a few things to the list tho. While we all focused on what OFA and the campaign and supporters contributed, I have to acknowledge the great contributions from the GOP to our campaign. They drove voters to us by:
disenfranchising working class people;
disenfranchising latino voters;
scaring seniors to near death;
dismissing the youth;
waging a war on women;
terrifying our allies around the world;
giving our solders a vision of endless war and no support;
and trying to take away the hard won voting rights of minority and women.
So a hearty THANK YOU to the GOP and their minions for helping OFA to GOTV with the undecideds and those who may have otherwise slept through this election. 😆
Now to go find something to eat. Yes after 8 hrs on the road, logging onto this site was the first thing I did after unpacking the car. Sad, I know ❗
I haen’t said much about Messina until now. Mostly because he went to work for Sen Baucus and I felt he was selling out to the DLC and corporations. I wasn’t sure how he would do when he went to work for PBO. But he has made us Missoulians proud! He attending the University of Montana and his first job was helping our best mayor get elected, I still have a problem with the way OFA treated Montana. But he was the right person to lead our PBO to this election. This is a great article in our local paper. He has made us all proud!.
Thanks for sharing this Mtmarilyn. Jim Messina run a brilliant campaign. Like President Obama, he was steady and confident and he never allowed all the panicky people in the Democratic party,or the MSM negativity, to distract him from his goal of re-electing the President.
PBO is a special man. His children are an extension of him. My heart warms every time I see this family. And doubly, I am so grateful that he is our president again.
Good West Coast morning Chipsticks!
Since it’s appropo to this post…:)
Wine and cheese are nice but those floors are shiny and boo-tee-ful!
I must agree with Dot ForUs. Those floors are gorgeous! 🙂
oh thank you so much dotster and a4alice. I love to design and the three tier colored glass shower wall was a fun project (albeit not so fun for the contractor!). http://instagram.com/p/Sbbgj6zMPI/
wow! That looks great! Love the glass door too 🙂
Beautiful home! Hope you enjoyed your day!
Buy from Small Mama and Papas…..Help them out.
Michelle Obama made it plain and clear her number one goal is her family, her girls. And I love her for that.
“…feed them with a long handle spoon”, that’s the advise my Mom used to say.
You know what, to HELL with Maureen Dowd. I don’t read anything she writes or look at anything she is on.
President Obama has gotten where he is without listening to anything Dowd says.
just realized I wrote “righting” instead of writing for those inquiring minds I’m on my 7th beer my alma mater Auburn is getting crushed 49-0 to Alabama please forgive me……….
Hey! I made it First!!! Haven’t been First in a LONG time 🙂
CONGRATULATIONS GGail!!! I had a Romney 2nd place finish lol.
Congrats on being Ist.
yeah!
Helping out these stores help them keep people employed. Picked up a coffee table in my local furniture store. Love it.
Honoring the military, I hope we will be able to see this, everything was so beautiful last Christmas.
Bo’s smart – those horsey hooves are HUGE.
I see it as Bo Obama conducting an inspection of his surroundings.
It is a lovely picture.
My dog barks at pictures of horses on TV. I know for a fact he’s never seen a horse in his whole life, so he knows Bo is onto something.
Hey!
Yo!
Straw! A common retort from a girl who grew up on a farm…:)
har har har 🙂
Bonjour everyone!
Hey Tally, are you in France or just feeling a bit “frenchie” today?
Hi Tally! Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving – I’m about to venture forth to support the small businesses in my area! #smallbizsat
Bon apres midi Tally! 🙂
Bonjour mon ami, ca va?
Jumping in here. 😀
Ca va bien merci, et vous?
Also…..buying and asking for products made in USA is 1001% of keeping more folks employed here in USA. 5% uptick….can easily help create close to 3M jobs.
The urban unemployment rate in China was last reported at 4.1 percent in the third quarter of 2012. http://www.tradingeconomics.com/china/unemployment-rate
SHOP SMALL – BUY AMERICAN – KEEP AMERICANS WORKING.
Yeah.
X2.
I haven’t made it to First since May or June, so it’s glorious being up here, but I must run and support my local small businesses now 🙂
“Toodles”!
I was pasting same photo! Jinx?
I was about to post UT’s retweet of the same photo!!
You owe me a coke.
It’s in the mail.
You and hopefruit owe me a coke then. 😀
Great minds think alike…..is how I see it. The more the merrier. It is simply…..LOVE.
relieved to have a partner in crime!
make that three!
MHP sez the left “carried PBO to the WH.”
I respectfully disagree. Thanks.
Amen to that…………
The people who ‘carried the President’ are the people who worked their butts off for OFA and various Unions, who gathered data, registered voters, knocked on doors, phone banked, drove people to the polls and, ultimately, in many cases after standing in line for hours, Voted.
MHP and other self-overvalued whiners wouldn’t know what that means if it hit them upside the head.
As noted yesterday evening (and she, huffypuffy, various firebaggers, MMFlint, Kos, et al were certainly ‘in mind’ as I composed it):
#FORWARD
HZ
Precisely, HZ!
Thank you, dotster and Nena.
We’ll get the job done! That’s what matters.
#TrustBarack
RT’d
#FORWARD
#FORWARD
Good idea Bob – we should start doing that as none of us really need anything.
@forus50-wow, what a role model. I am going to try to get back in the swing of local shopping. I have a hard time convincing my husband who only looks at the price. I guess everytime I do shop local is better than nothing. Thanks for the inspiration.
Nice to see such a well-read family.
Syria … doing it their way …

Hey Family!
Doing our part for Small Business Saturday. The daughter of a friend of mine recently opened a gluten free bakery. Going by to pick up a loaf delicious olive bread!
Sure wish I lived close to that. We are gluten free and love supporting local! Sure she will do well!

very worthwhile reading this analysis of patty murray’s role in the senate:

Bob, did you see this? wow – that’s a big statement.
Yes. Morsi way overstepped.
Yay! Minnesota! w00t!!! 😀
Many thanks to your brother for all his hard work. We were all in this together!!!!!
Thank you marachne!!!
For those who haven’t seen the video, it’s really special!
These are the people who ‘carried the President’ and America to victory on 6 Nov.

This is awesome! I didn’t see it. Thanks.
This is an excerpt from Chris Hayes’ blog on msnbc.com – he’s talking about his brother Luke who was the Obama state director for the campaign in Nevada. 🙂
Yep!
Chris Hayes also did that live on his show the 1st Sat after the Nov 6, 2012 election. Yes his brother, Luke, worked his butt off.

She’s getting LIT UP in the comments. It’s awesome to see. 99 against and one idiot trying to defend her.
someone is finally defending Susan Rice John Heilman has a nice column http://nymag.com/news/politics/powergrid/susan-rice-secretary-of-state-2012-12/ after dingbat Jonathn Alter trashed her in bloomberg today http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-11-21/kerry-is-the-right-choice-to-lead-u-s-diplomacy.html (p.s. Alter threw in some kind words but basically argued she is unquailfied)
They are so transparent – Sen Kerry will give them another election in Massachusetts and they think Scott Brown would win.
She needs to return her official Black girl card and her responsible citizen certification.
This comment is about Condeleeza Rice. Most A-A s I know do not care for her (this is my polite translation).
New photos added
That is all.
great idea, jovie–any time the crazy gets to me, i go outside and play. it’s worked for over 60 years! have fun!
Reality.
that is the absolute truth, bob. the more we inquire about working conditions, the more we question sources, the more these giant, impersonal companies will have to look past this quarter’s bottom line to the long-term benefits that accrue to the companies which start to get it. we are one world. we are one people. you hurt our brothers and sisters, you destroy the planet, and we will not give you our money.
Without consumers the Walmart family would not be able to continue raking in billions of dollars while they continue to treat their workers like s**t.

thanks DF that is a lot of info! Tweeted 😀
Thank you, alice:) It’s going to be very important for all of us to get this info out to as many people as possible. Most people are clueless.
Loved this article.
good read–i think pbo’s first term was about putting out all the fires started by gwb & the rethugs. now he’s poised to work on his own agenda, and because he was honest in his campaign, he has a mandate to do exactly what he wants.
Putting it that way, we totally agree.
Wow, good article. I’m shocked whenever a major publication writes an in depth article on POTUS and it doesn’t have some of the facts wrong or isn’t a whine fest or cynical. This was as straightforward as it gets.
I loved it as well…
some members of the PL like to say that the issue of “income equality” was started with OWS….they should read this article…

Dear Chips,
You made an executive decision in the weeks before the Election that had a very positive impact on the quality of the wonderful TOD community, and on our ability to focus energy on re-electing the President & Democrats.

Thanks Bob.
Thank you Chips!
Thanks Chips and Bobfr for this internal memo. You guyz . . . . awesome. Educating the citizens of the United States.
Read all about it, right ~here~, folks!
Hear, hear Bob. I refuse to give them life, that is, the whingers, the negative nellies and the propaganda specialists. Go Ms Chips. Forward!
This is from the PEW exit polls with a handy chart with all the answers you could want. PBO took 44% of the non-evangelical Protestant vote to 54% for Romney. http://www.pewforum.org/Politics-and-Elections/How-the-Faithful-Voted-2012-Preliminary-Exit-Poll-Analysis.aspx
THANKS!!!!!! 🙂
Bain comes to mind….http://crooksandliars.com/karoli/hostess-employee-tells-all-about-ceo-guttin
More beautiful pics of the captain and his daughters. They really are letting these girls out in the last several days. Nice to see. 🙂
wow. this is awesome.
A lot of truth in that message! Thank you Alice
doesn’t it? I’m not sure that me as the person I am with all my foibles and impatience could do it. But I mean I could TRY I just don’t think I’d be super successful! 😀 And besides that Bob, I feel like I got a lot of yelling to do!
“And besides that Bob, I feel like I got a lot of yelling to do!”
Go for it, Alice!!! 😀
In my neighborhood, I treat everyone I meet like they might vote for a Democrat.
That’s a good way to be! Thx Tien Le 🙂
Yessss!
thanks, bob. i’m really sick of all the hand-wringing over how the poor widdle rethugs can get their oomph back. even nate silver gave them some heart-felt advice on strategy. jeez. http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/11/23/pennsylvania-could-be-a-path-forward-for-g-o-p/
the rethugs can only become viable governing partners if they completely rethink their guiding principles, then change them! yes. change their beliefs. then they will obviously get rid of their elected representatives, in national office and state offices. that’s the path to viability, and the only path.
sick to death of everybody feeling sorry for them!! they lost because they were WRONG ABOUT
EVERYTHING!
Throughout the campaign I followed Nate’s statistics but not his pundit explanations – He is hopeless at when and why things are happening – rather like Bill Kristol, he always gets it wrong – but the Maths – that is his game.
And he crawls out from within his car elevator…http://www.buzzfeed.com/zekejmiller/mitt-romney-loves-thanksgiving
Why he now wants people to think he is a real person – who knows – but it has meaning to Romney – everything he does is related to his plans for himself.
yes, they’re about to open the ironing board and sit down to a dinner of canned beans on day-old bread. sorry, joy, but i’d rather not see their smarmy faces here.
hold it! I heard he took his shirt off! rats……. 😦
DeNiro interview in the Guardian.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/theobserver/2012/nov/24/robert-de-niro-silver-linings-interview
Yes, PBO is wonderful!
mark that’s a really nice photo! well done!
That’s a Pete Souza photo! 🙂
http://www.whitehouse.gov/photos-and-video/photogallery/november-2012-photo-day
well that explains it–there is no food in it anywhrere 🙂
😆 You’re baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad, Susanne 😆
fixed!

Is that food alive? 😯
only on my dancin’ hips!
I know that feeling 😥
oh… darn, i thought it was a good thing!

the league of women voters are providing workshops for folks who want to communicate successfully with their representatives in state government.
http://www.santafenewmexican.com/Local%20News/112412LEAGUE
Nice jacket he is wearing. Anyone know where I can get one of those?
I forgive green sweatshirt guy I trashed earlier from a photo posted of him looking sketchy….. He seems to be impressed that prez came prepared probly a repub who watches Fox “news” got out of the bubble .
It’s funny how a still shot can leave you with one impression of someone, and then you see the video and they seem fine – happens me ALL the time!
nevermind there are two green sweatshirt guys second one is still sketchy he was the one in the photo.. maybe same person I’m drunk somebody settle this for me plz?????????
Oh, baby! http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/barack-obama-i-think-i-can-do-gangnam-style-20121106
OMG, can you imagine him doing it?! 😆
Girl! You better drag a big bunch of mats out!!
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
There aren’t enough in the entire universe, DF!!!
You got that right! 🙂
Also too, I think Japa, LL and Amk would leave for good – it would be The Shirt x 84 gazillion.
Truly!:) Too much to ask them to bear:)
someone did 🙂
Nooooooooooooooo!!! At 0:14 I thought it was him!!! 😆 😆
That’s funny!
This impersonator Reggie Miller is a slimy opportunistic rat…
The RNC hired him often to entertain them at their conventions with skits that degraded President and Mrs Obama including showing them as becoming some old black ghetto sitcom characters as they age…
He does not deserve any attention whatsoever…
With video:) http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/obama-offers-jay-z-advice-on-raising-blue-ivy-20121019
It’s actually audio…but good interview:)
Learned that this song is one he listened to during the campaign:) Kept him steady…
State Department catches fire, 4 injured in flash fire-

OMG, I just spent the last 1/2 hour reading some of the comments to Condoleeza Rice’s post in WaPo. Wow. It’s so great that Americans (and some comments are pissed off people in the Middle East) are speaking out loud and clear to past and current lies. I have no idea why she thought this would be a good idea to write an article criticizing the Obama administration on Syria. Doesn’t she know she has ZERO credibility?! Astoundingly dense but then I always thought she was that…
If you have a minute look at a few of these comments; people are still really, really pissed off at how the Bush administration cost this country lives, money and good will with the rest of the world.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/condoleezza-rice-syria-is-central-to-holding-together-the-middle-east/2012/11/23/200e583e-2ebf-11e2-89d4-040c9330702a_allComments.html#comments
Excellent to hear Forus, I usually avoid comments sections, but sounds like this one is more than worth reading.
from wikipedia’s article on kindasleezy:
No matter what happens from here, those calling the shots can rest easy knowing they could not possibly make things worse than you and your team of crackpot neocon as$hats already has.
maybe her advice is useful as a negative: condi says do A, so we must absolutely never do A.
thanks Bob I was trying to compose a tweet for this but couldn’t find the words! #WARMONGERCONDI
Hay Condi, no one has forgotten Iraq and the mess you and your boss caused. So please go back into the hole you crawl out of.
You want something to be thankful for? Be thankful this is not your family…….. This email to his kids is a work of art!!!
Socrates could not have said it better.
And he is the “best” spokesman the GOP has on foreign affairs – we should all thank Sarah Palin for ensuring this man was never elected to the Presidency.
That’s true 99ts, something to be grateful to the half-termer for.
Btw, Chips, one of your best videos, ever, and that’s a high bar, for sure!
#FORWARD
They drove voters to us by:
disenfranchising working class people;
disenfranchising latino voters;
scaring seniors to near death;
dismissing the youth;
waging a war on women;
terrifying our allies around the world;
giving our solders a vision of endless war and no support;
and trying to take away the hard won voting rights of minority and women.
Sad, I know
❗
Sorry for the long post. BBL
Amen to this, Bob. That man should be in jail….and all the people that signed his stupid assed treasonous pledge, too.
Jim Messina, http://missoulian.com/news/state-and-regional/sally-mauk-column-messina-reflects-on-life-at-the-helm/article_c0f39b4a-35ec-11e2-8f88-001a4bcf887a.html
Neeeeeeeeeew post!
https://theobamadiary.com/2012/11/24/markknoller-one-two-three-four-more-years/
PBO is a special man. His children are an extension of him. My heart warms every time I see this family. And doubly, I am so grateful that he is our president again.
Hi everyone.
