There are soooooo many #iserve events today in San Francisco, starting later this morning. Food services at Open Hand, clothing drives at the Zen Center, community volunteer training in the Castro, blood drives, garden projects, etc, etc, etc. This is really wonderful.

donna’s request to bring this over to Rise and Shine:)

Hey VC it’s gonna be 51 degrees in DC today. YIPPEE…Have I told you that I HATE cold weather?

I’m off for the National Day of Service. I’ll see you tomorrow VC.

Good Morning TOD, Have a wonderful day and an even better weekend. I’m going to ask a special favor of each of you and Ms. Chips forgive me if I’m overstepping my bounds.

I’ll be here doing what I can in support of President Obama and I promise to carry everyone of you that cannot make it to DC in spirit with me when I am out and about this weekend. I am extremely excited to be hosting the Meet-up on Sunday even though I got that highly coveted (at the last minute) invite to the OFA Legacy Conference for the same day as the meetup (Sunday). We TODers have plans to meet, eat, hug, chat and then there maybe a surprise guest (crossing my fingers), commemorative buttons are a plenty and I was hooked up with tickets to the Inauguration to give away so somebody is going to get a little better view of the Ceremony . Now although I wish I could magically be at both places at once I understand that that in life we sometimes have to sacrifice one great thing for another great thing. So with you all understanding that, here is the favor I’ll be asking of you….

For just Sunday and Monday while our President is taking his official oath and his public oath of office can we leave the negative commentary of those pesky pundits and cable shows at the door and not bring it here for just those two days? I don’t normally ask such a task and I’ve learned to accept that people have the right to vent, comment and discuss the good and the bad. Trust me that was a big step for me but this weekend is a celebration. It’s the reward of all the hard work that we put forth through that grueling campaign and we WON!!!. So to Hell with the pundits this weekend. Let them talk to the hand! Let’s just celebrate the moment and then on Tuesday we can go back to our regular scheduled program .

Have a great O’Weekend and Congrats to our great and wonderful President and Vice President.

p.s. Can someone repost this in the Rise and Shine for me and don’t forget to look for that “T” sign on TV by fellow TODer’s this weekend

I thought I would bring this over again, as it is really a simple request and DD4O has been a major player in getting to where we are today!

    • January 19, 2013 at 7:54 pm

I agree to that plan. I will see you at the meet up. Not sure what my “T” will look like. Maybe just a sticky. I am very excited! Thanks for planning it.

We don’t have a national day of service here, but President Obama has influenced me to start my own every year at this time to join in! Today, I will be baking some afternoon tea cookies/slices to take down to my nearest rest home and spend a few hours there to just lend an ear and conversation to the elderly. President Obama touches our hearts, makes us better people. Not only does he encourage his American people to give service to the community, he’s also spreading that to the world! Thank you ❤

I am very mad at myself for my body betraying me by getting severely sick.

I have been looking foward to once-gain being in DC for PBO’s innaguration – have had my week off approved for this historical day (for events before during & immediately after) a few months ago.

Of course, during the past few days I have been rudely reminded that I am not in control of my life. Why, Why did I have to fall sick now of all days.

Attempts to convince pals to let me come although I can hardly walk have been met with a “Hell No” !!

I am feeling sorry for my self – (yes I am behaving like a brat)

Thanks a lot for the caring. I will definitely be spending whatever time I have infront of tv & following closely.

I am just bummed out that I did not get to travel to this historical event as I have planned for so long.

Also the sickness came as a surprise & has challenged my ability to be there.

Last time was so cold that I spent considerable time trying not to freeze (was born in the tropics I hate the cold). This time I had hoped to hit the town hard —- and enjoy the different events

    • January 19, 2013 at 1:06 pm

        January 19, 2013 at 1:39 pm

thanks a lot for your concern!

It does not seem to be a bug. Rather, key “body systems” seem to be malfunctioning in ways that concern the doctors to demand immediate further testing.

problem is that they can’t seem to figure out what the is going on although I have been getting enough major tests that will surely alarm my “newly-minted” insurance provider.

been resting taking any pain killers until they figure out what is wrong

        • January 19, 2013 at 1:52 pm

Oh Linda, that’s all such a worry for you, we’ll all be thinking about you and wishing you the best. Take care of yourself, and let us know how things go. Hopefully the inauguration events will give you a lift.

A US civil rights pioneer who confronted racial segregation in Alabama in the 1960s has died aged 70.

James Hood died in his hometown of Gadsden in Alabama, a local funeral home said in an obituary notice.

Mr Hood was one of two black students to enter the all-white University of Alabama in June 1963.

Their path was blocked by then Alabama Governor George Wallace and his state troopers until President John F Kennedy intervened.

President Kennedy ordered the Alabama National Guard to escort Mr Hood and Vivian Malone into the building so that they could register for classes and pay their fees.

Mr Hood attended the university for a few months but then moved to Michigan to complete his education in order to, as he once put it, “avoid a complete mental and physical breakdown”.

He returned to the university in the mid-1990s to complete a doctorate in education.

On becoming governor of Alabama in January 1963, George Wallace had promised “segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever”.

In later years he underwent a complete political transformation and apologised to James Hood and Vivian Malone for his actions that day, saying he had made a mistake.

I will say to his credit that I’ve noticed that he tends to lose his “cable TV pundit” cynicism when he’s caught up in these actual events. Most likely, he will tweeting what a great event it is and how moving the ceremony, etc is. I don’t think he will ask anyone about their “disappointment” as he does on CNN.

There is alot of discussion about Republicans on the National leve; but not enough focus of those GOP controlled state houses and how they are wreaking havic on the citizens of their state…

like the latest bill introduced in the PA State House that would gerrymanded the electoral college…that would change how electoral votes are awarded..not to mention that onerous Voter ID law..

Only Rachael Maddow has been paying attention…..nationally.

It just not ONLY in PA. It is in OH, WI, MI and other state that is currently escaping my thought. If the TBGOPers had managed to have changed those states in 2012……the lying Bishop would have been Gerrymandered in…….This where I have issues with Dems. That is why I had issues with the selection of the former gov of VA as the DNC chair in 2009 and with DWS as the current Chair…..they don’t pay attention to these matters fast enough to educate activists in those states. DNC truly needs one whose sole job is to focus on recruiting and electing Dems. I have written and called many times since 2009 and nothing changes on this front.

TBGOPers, continue to plot to cheat in order to win.

Hello TOD Villagers. I haven’t posted much lately -life- but do check in daily. I’m so fired up and excited about this inauguration. That old saying still holds true for me: last time was historical, this time it’s personal.

I have cleared my schedule for the weekend, even declining an invite to be with friends, because I don’t want to let my socializing get in the way of enjoying every single second of this wonderful event.

o/t what was that the pundits were saying a few weeks ago about lack of enthusiasm for this inauguration? Damn but not with ANYONE I know. Everyone is absolutely thrilled.

Android and Ipad users there is an app with lots of good info, photos and live events. Find it at the playstore but beware there are 2 listed. The official/good one is by AT&T services, Inc.

Yes, I plan to have the TV, my computer & my android going so as to not miss a thing! LOL

ChipsChica love the stroll down memory lane with photos of previous inaugurations. And for the record, I add my voice to the many here thanking you -profusely- for providing this haven/home/clubhouse/homeawayfromhome.

I started out this morning standing at the wrong bus company and people were paying in cash even asking people to by there seats for twice the amount originally paid for because they could not get tickets leaving out of NYC.

I especially would like to thank you for the picture you posted earlier about the crowds who stood in line for hours.
All of the celebrity, rich and famous do not excite me at all. They can afford to buy and look good at the same time. The ones who got up very very early to vote because they were afraid that their vote would not count are the ones my heart ache for right now. The outcast, forgotten, left behind, down trodden, unemployed, down to last milk and cereal for hungry mouths to feed.
I salute you. You are somebody. Your vote did count.

‘ In an accident with uncanny timing, two people were injured at a gun show in Raleigh, North Carolina, when someone’s gun went off after they accidentally left a round in the chamber when checking it into storage at the event. ‘

Okay, I get what was nagging me about the photo of POTUS today – it is the colour of his shirt – not used to seeing him in this colour choice
