Barack Obama, ever the diplomat. This is his entry for Tom Coburn.

He teaches me new things everyday.

He is a far better person than I can ever aspire to be. I have such contempt for Republicans in Congress. This is just another reason to love our President.

Pres Obama has got to be the Mother Theresa of the POTUS’. I could NOT do what he just did. Tom Coburn was one of the 20 who plotted a political Coup de’tat on Jan 20, 2009. Then in 2010, in an interview, he implied that Mr. Obama had gotten preferential treatment at prestigious schools due to his race. I called his office in OK and I spent at list 4-5 mins on the phone with them….. registering my complaint and within hours, Dr. Coburn……I am sure, with many calling as well, clarified his statements. My Roman Catholic faith says to forgive……I am having a really hard time forgiving sen Coburn.

Pres Obama didn’t have to write this. He has a lot on his plate. But he did for he is a better man, president and a better leader. He is epitomizing……what he believes……not taking politics personal. A tip of my Hat to pres Obama.

President Obama is a true christian. As there ever been such a beautiful soul in the Oval Office ?

Little note: Remember that event with right wing pastor Warren during the 2008 campaign ? Both Mr. Obama and Mr. McCain had to answer some questions on faith and governing. Many people said that Barack Obama had “lost” that debate. On the contrary, I thought that he had won it overwhelmingly. His honesty and beautiful soul were on display and everybody with a big heart must have seen it. I really liked him but that day something more profound happened. I was awed, impressed, moved. I just understood how exceptional this man was. And what I’ve witnessed in the last five years has confirmed, day after day, what I felt in my heart and my soul on that day.

I remember it was discovered that Senator McCain who went second heard all the questions on his ride to the event which gave him an advantage.

President Obama has had to be our secular minister in times of profound grief way more than any other President except possibly Lincoln and FDR. He has such a deep well of compassion and eloquence, but I wish he didn’t have to keep doing this!

Gun Violence Victims Detained, Put Through Background Check For Yelling ‘Shame On You’ At Senators

“Shame on you!” Patricia Maisch and Lori Haas yelled in rapid succession at the 46 senators who had just voted to kill a compromise amendment to expand background checks for gun purchases at gun shows or online. The women were sitting in the gallery with a large group of gun violence victims as the Senate responded to the massacre in Newtown, Connecticut by defeating the measure advocates and law enforcement officials consider crucial to keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill.

As they left the Senate gallery, a police officer approached and asked them to follow him. The three walked downstairs to a public hallway, where they were peppered with questions: “What’s your name?” “Where are you from?” “What are your Social Security numbers?” The officer left to run a background check on the women, who were instructed to sit on a bench. Another uniformed officer watched over them, even escorted Haas to the bathroom and told her she couldn’t lock the stall door.

An hour and a half later, another law enforcement official approached and quizzed the the two women further. He asked them about their intentions and where they were from, why they were in D.C., how long they planned to stay and when they were leaving.

The entire ordeal stretched for almost two hours — approximately 115 minutes longer than a background check at a federal gun dealer. Haas noted the irony of undergoing hours of questioning while permitting gun purchases without any screening at gun shows or online.

Good morning folks. I wonder if they want all blood colors? On an episode in All In the Family years ago Archie Bunker received blood from an African American doctor. She told him not to worry, he was going to be okay; he will only have a strange craving for watermelon in the morning. Seriously though, some of those folks would rather die than take blood from me.

    CALL TO ACTION

Today and in the days to come our actions will be even more important than the phone calls /tweets / emails we made yesterday. To quote President Obama

“Defeat is a temporary condition, giving up makes it permanent”

Here is an example of how this can be turned into a positive. In our community, we had a gun violence phone bank on Tuesday that was cancelled due to the Boston event, I just put out a call for another one, this time we have 2 folks offering to host one.

Please take the time to make as many calls as you can today. They are expecting us to spend the day moaning and groaning, and then they hope we will give up. Let’s show them that we will come back even stronger. Over the days and weeks to come, lets continue to post call to action on gun control until this gets done.

I plan to add a gun icon to the list of Senators who voted against the bill tonight or tomorrow.

    Stay Strong…

Gov. Patrick is such a great speaker. I so which that he would aspire to even higher office but I absolutely understand why he doesn’t. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is fortunate to have his leadership.
