That was an astounding speech the President gave. He really let them have it. Today should be a day of infamy.

this sounds about right coming from them…h/t Political Carnival

“I am the senator. You are the citizen. You need to be quiet.”

    – North Carolina State Senator Tommy Tucker (R), quoted by the Raleigh News and Observer, to Goldsboro News-Argus publisher Hal Tanner who was opposing legislation to change public notice requirements for local government.

That’s it for me, DF! These right wingers are pure evil! They value their guns more than they value the lives of children six and seven-years old. Even in the wild wild West, U.S. Marshals and Sheriffs routinely regulated guns in order to keep peace and prevent deaths. The Second Amendment says absolutely zilch about gun ownership to protect individual freedom, or to rise up against the federal government. Besides, it’s really laughable that these people think they can topple the government using their AK-47’s and other assault weapons. Are they so stupid that they have not paid attention to the overwhelming power of the United States military under the Command of a duly elected U.S. President? Have they totally forgotten what happened to the rebellious confederate states? I think the most idiotic idea, as far as I am concerned, is the assertion that the people owning guns, including assault weapons, can successfully topple the U.S. government with its gigantic military. Even China and Russia, both nuclear powers, are not that naive about the overwhelming power of the U.S. military.

This sounds like the attitude of many elected officials. They could care less about voters, they care only about large donors. If this Tommy Tucker doesn’t have a strong opponent the next time around, then it’s on the NC Democratic Party because you could run this statement on a loop and win.

This effort is not over, there are far too many Americans upset about this. Its just the beginning. Please remember the 4 Democrats that said no to this this vote. They are the traitors to the people that voted for them.

      April 18, 2013 at 2:35 am

I am sorry, Joy, but I think your priorities are misplaced! While the votes of the four Democrats were objectionable, they are not the ones who defeated this Bill. I refuse to let off the hook the 91% of the Republicans who voted against this bill. To repeat, the 4 Democrats who voted against the Bill would not have changed the outcome of thisBill. All that was needed was the 41 votes to filibuster the Bill; and, 41 Republicans voted to filibuster the bill. Only 4 Republicans voted for the Bill, while 51 Democrats, a majority of Senators, (before Sen. Reid changed his vote to No, for procedural reasons, to make sure he will be able to bring back the Bill) voted for the Bill. That’s why I don’t understand why you are so obsessed with the 4 Democrats who voted against the Bill. It’s as if you believe that if they voted yes the Bill would have passed, which is absolutely not true.

This has got to be our mantra and we have to start now, while the local 2013 primaries are doing on, to register new Dem voters. Register, register, register and then work like the devil to get the biggest Dem turnout ever in 2014.

I just ready Gabby’s piece in the NYT http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/18/opinion/a-senate-in-the-gun-lobbys-grip.html?_r=1&

    via BJ – http://www.balloon-juice.com/2013/04/17/what-she-said-5/

And “what she said” from me too.

“Mark my words: if we cannot make our communities safer with the Congress we have now, we will use every means available to make sure we have a different Congress, one that puts communities’ interests ahead of the gun lobby’s. To do nothing while others are in danger is not the American way. ”

Bless you Gabby – what a wonderful person you are – in every possible way.

Yes Indeed, Bill R! We must not let them hide behind the 4 Democrats who, for all practical purposes, would not have changed the outcome. If I had any say so,Tomorrow’s Newspaper Headlines would say: “A MINORITY OF REPUBLICANS, USING THE SENATE’S BIZARRE FILIBUSTER RULE, KILLED A BILL REQUIRING BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR GUN PURCHASES THAT WAS SUPPORTED BY THE MAJORITY OF SENATORS!” This should be the story! The story should not, and must not, be about the 4 renegade Democrats who voted against the Bill. Their votes did not change the outcome of the Bill!

Jonathan Kim Is absolutely spot-on! The majority of Senators (55 if Sen Reid hadn’t changed his vote for procedural reasons) voted for background Checks! It was the minority (45 senators) who used the the FILIBUSTER to defeat the Bill!. To be clear: 91% of the Senators who FILIBUSTERED the Bill are REPUBLICANS, while 93% of the Senators who voted for the Bill are DEMOCRATS!

Thanks Chips. Thanks UT. Thanks Bobfr. Thanks to all who are doing such a great job. I am totally exhausted, so I can understand our TOD Family tonight as well.

Let us get some rest tonight and please remember to keep POB and FLOTUS in your prayers tonight and at the sunrise tomorrow. He is going to bring beautiful balms of healing from his beautiful heart. I pray tonight that they have worked out all of the details for his visit. So many want to see him and hear him.

Mr. President and First Lady, rest, and know that millions are praying for you and our First Lady and our beautiful VPBiden.

    Grant POB wisdom tomorrow, Lord.
Grant POB peace to carry with him tomorrow, Lord.
Grant POB strength to stand tall tomorrow, Lord.
Grant POB to bring a sweet and gentle spirit of goodness to Boston; to the first responders, the governor, and the mayor tomorrow, Lord.
Grant POB an abundance of sweet and loving hugs to give to the hurting citizens of Boston tomorrow, Lord.
Grant POB total protection from the top of his head to the bottome of his feet tomorrow, Lord, And we will always give You honor, praise, and gratefulness Lord for this beautiful gift, our President, Barack Obama and Vice President, Joseph R. Biden and our beautiful First Lady. Help us to be comforters to each other and stand in the pathway to comfort our President also in our thoughts, prayers and meditations, Lord. We humbly ask for Your grace and mercy. Amen.

    Good night my TOD Family.HZ

What’s Foxx so afraid of that they most often do nor show the President speak to America? They do this all the time. 😦

Politicians understand nothing but money. I think we should all be saving our pennies and making donations to: Gabby Giffords’ PAC Americans for Responsible Solutions as a starter. Then working like hell in 2014 to defeat Republicans wherever possible.

It seems the media is blaming the democrats just as much as Republicans???
90% of democrats voted for it, and 90% of Republucabs voted against it.
    But all…,
We get us both sides do it!
    Why?

    • 119 jackiegrumbacher

Why? because the media is largely run by Republican led corporations. They are trained NEVER to blame Republicans. The most they can say is “both sides do it.”

Good Morning all. Couldn’t sleep last night due to Explosion in West. This is a small town mostly Czechoslovakian heritage and a huge Catholic presence. My husbands family lives there. We were suppose to go to the family reunion this next weekend there. My children grew up going every year. We have not been since we moved to Florida but, my mother-in-law goes with the rest of my in-laws. Stayed up most of the night watching MSNBC as they broke into Dallas network news and let it run for hours. I appreciated the service they provided.

Was up talking with my daughter at U of Tampa…she had contacted everyone by Facebook and was informing us family is fine.
