The videos are so sweet. I find it wonderful how First Lady Michelle Obama (and POTUS) makes everyone around her so comfortable and happy that they treat her with respect yes; but also like a trusted friend.

    • June 30, 2013 at 7:20 am

Morning UT! And you hear people say that over and over again, how relaxed both of them make them – like the girl in Belfast who introduced them at the Waterfront, she said how nervous she was until she met PBO and Michelle, and they completely relaxed her by laughing and joking with her.

That girl singing ‘At Last’? If any record company sees it, she’ll have a deal by this afternoon!

Interesting, Cali. It looks like Assange just can’t control his arrogant, know-it-all attitude and now it’s blown up on Snowden. Little Eddie should have chosen better friends. But then good judgment is obviously not his strong suit.

      June 30, 2013 at 8:33 am

Assange, unlike Snowden isn’t a citizen of the U.S. so he can run to Ecuador and hide out with incurring the wrath of his country. But Snowden being an American citizen makes it difficult for Ecuador to grant him asylum. Ecuador has to play this perfectly, on the one hand they have to appear strong to its citizens all the while working with the U.S. to deny Snowden asylum.

I could be wrong, but this is that Nakamura jackass talking again about how expensive this trip is. I hope the hotel is as nice as I think it is. I mean if G.W. Bush, Clinton and there families didn’t stay in any dump, neither should President Obama and his family.

    EVERYONE can play a part.

You can get free virtual posters for your facebook, twitter (profile picture and background picture), instagram, desktop (computer) and spread the word around. This is getting worldwide support and that’s fantastic.

BBL – have to go make a proper Sunday morning breakfast (tradition) so offspring can get off to church well-fed. Also going to make prep for dinner while I’m in the kitchen so that I won’t have to bother later when I’m caught up in the Obama-lives. 😉

I love it. I have to make my life work around my checking in on the President and supporting his initiatives. Work work, outdoor work dishes, meal prep, laundry, get done in between my checking on what’s happening so it seems. When I have visitors I just excuse myself for a few minutes on a regular basis to keep up.

Hey Catrst, I notice from your response on the previous thread that you, poor soul, are another Obama morAn! My heart ‘bleeds’ for you. 😀

‘When I have visitors I just excuse myself for a few minutes on a regular basis to keep up.’
This is one problem that I’ve 80% solved by not having visitors at all – at least not the invited ones 😉 . The 20% is for those who insist on turning up unannounced, or announced when they are two or so minutes away (I hate cell phones), and to whom you can’t say no. Problem is they are (were?) good friends, and we did use to socialize a lot together AND they live in town! On those occasions (two in the past week 😦 ) I grin and bear it, while checking out the clock surreptitiously.

    Paging LL.

CHICAGO (AP) — The nation’s librarians will be recruited to help people get signed up for insurance under President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul. Up to 17,000 U.S. libraries will be part of the effort to get information and crucial computer time to the millions of uninsured Americans who need to get coverage under the law.

The undertaking will be announced Sunday in Chicago at the annual conference of the American Library Association, according to federal officials who released the information early to The Associated Press.

The initiative starts Oct. 1, when people without health coverage will start shopping for insurance online on new websites where they can get tax credits to help pay the cost. Low-income people will be enrolled in an expanded version of Medicaid in states that adopt it.

About 7 million people are expected to sign up for coverage in the new marketplaces next year, but the heavy emphasis on the Web-based portals puts anyone without access to a computer at a disadvantage.

Libraries equipped with public computers and Internet access already serve as a bridge across the digital divide, so it made sense to get them involved, said Julie Bataille, spokeswoman for the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

“Libraries are a tremendous resource for people in their communities,” Bataille said. “They’re already a destination many individuals go to when they’re seeking out information and understanding on a variety of issues.”

Excellent thinking to use the ready-to-use resources.

It is even more important that Reagan’s economy whiz-kid, the architect of the trickle-down theory wrote:

“The Reagan deficits were intentional, designed to cut revenue as a way of pressuring Congress to cut programs Republicans wanted to destroy….The plan… was to have a strategic deficit that would give you an argument for cutting back the programs that weren’t desired….”

Cutting deficits is not an ideology…it’s a strategy.

        June 30, 2013 at 8:40 am

It’s a two pronged strategy. Run up deficits when they are in power to enrich the 1%ers, corporates, mic’s (by way of wars) and then cut the social safety net programs while the dems are in power on cut the deficit agenda.

The US secretary of state has said final-status Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations could be “within reach… with a little more work”.

John Kerry extended his peace mission on Saturday, cancelling a scheduled trip to Abu Dhabi.

For three days he has shuttled between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

But Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said there had been no breakthrough.

He said the latest meeting had been “positive and profound”, but “there is still a gap between the Palestinian and Israeli positions”.

This powerful poem had great influence on me when I was a teen and in my early 20’s. I even presented an oral presentation of the poem as part of my induction into the National Honor Society when I was in high school many decades ago. One of the reasons that I taught Literature for 30 years is because its power to connect.

This Nakamura jackass don’t know what it is to respect anyone, specially a black man. Who is this jackass? Is he some right wing nut or maybe some left wing nut, it’s clear he has no respect for our President. But this is that stupid ass press this President have to deal with. One thing for sure I do not like that Nakamura jackass.

    • June 30, 2013 at 8:22 am

      “chasing Mandela’s ghosts”

What a vile man Nakamura is.

      • June 30, 2013 at 8:24 am

This is beyond disgusting. I always thought he was a jerk with his “Africa-is-disappointed-with-PBO” narratives, but this just took it to a completely new level of gutter-kissing scumbag.

        • June 30, 2013 at 8:28 am

              • June 30, 2013 at 8:40 am

Well he certainly hasn’t gotten the anti-Obama response that he was looking for with this tweet. I guess even the RWNJ’s or emoprog/Libertarian nuts know better than to insult a great like Nelson Mandela.

                • June 30, 2013 at 8:47 am

I just saw that he tweeted a photo of a SA newspaper article criticising Michelle’s fashion. He really is something.

Just to annoy myself, Don, I looked at his Twitter feed – photos of hotels the Obamas have stayed in, the article criticising Michelle’s clothes, bitching and snarking about PBO’s press conference, etc, etc, it’s a sight to behold.

                    • June 30, 2013 at 9:09 am

                      Indeed. It’s quite nauseating.

Don, I will tell you what is this white guy problem. He doesn’t like that black man and black woman acting like some uppity folks. You would think that a real journalists wouldn’t even be concern about what FLOTUS was wearing. But here he is tweeting something about that. He is searching for negative things because he can’t stand the President and the First Lady. He can’t say anything about the warm welcome they have been receiving, so what does he do, he tweets about clothes, hotel picture, chasing Mandela’s ghost. He’s a dam racists lowlife.

I saw that also & wondered if there is anyone in the WHPC who has something positive to say about the first family. The only thing that is different about this President is his race – they are all racist to the core – men who believe they are superior in every way to PBO – I am so glad they have to sit at the back of the plane.

I guess every time you see FLOTUS she suppose to have on some two piece big designer suit that the old white First Ladies wore, but they don’t know that ain’t our FLOTUS, she wears what she likes, what she feel comfortable in and isn’t that how it suppose to be. And I love her for that.

I am trying to understand what the protest in Egypt is all about. Can someone point me to a link that gives a clear explanation for a novice?

    • June 30, 2013 at 8:58 am

      Hiya CEB, from the BBC:

Protests calling for the resignation of Egypt’s President Mohammed Morsi and early presidential elections have kicked off in the capital, Cairo, and around the country.

His opponents say he has failed to tackle economic and security problems.

Thousands spent the night in Cairo’s Tahrir Square, focus of protests which brought down ex-leader Hosni Mubarak.

Since the 2011 revolution the Egyptian economy has gone from bad to worse. Unemployment is up, so is the budget deficit, job creation is virtually non-existent and the Egyptian pound has lost much of its value. And matters are made even worse by the general lack of security in the country. As part of her series of reports looking at the challenges facing Egypt today Shaimaa Khalil focuses on the Egyptian economy.

It is NOT just David Nakamura, folks.
The driving imperative in MSM/DC is to belittle POTUS.
The NY Times headline “Unable to visit Mandela, Obama honors legacy.”
See it is subtle. It suggests failure of the President making him seem weak, without an outright lie.

This is what they do to the “news” day in and day out. PBO is not agressive enough. Can we really trust him?
Day in and day out PBO is presented as other than what POTUS is.

As I said in an earlier comment——-The GOP/MSM/DCPC/TP has turned into Clint Eastwood cursing at an empty chair. Enraged bigots addressing an imaginary President.

    Too harsh???

    • 77 CEB
      June 30, 2013 at 9:36 am

      Truth is never too harsh.

    • June 30, 2013 at 9:36 am

Vicki, everything you said here is 100% true. The Clint Eastwood-Empty Chair analogy is SPOT ON!

Everything the MSM reports about PBO HAS to be framed in such a way to make him seem weak, as though he is groveling, not in command, not in control, that insignificant others get to decide what, where, how, why he does what he does.

It must take a special brand of hate and jealousy to be pushing these hostile and FALSE narratives day after day, about a single individual who happens to be the duly elected President, simply doing his job as well as he or anyone else could be expected to.
