I’ve just noticed we skipped past the 20.5 million mark while UT was captaining the ship all on her own – and without any tweety alerts to new posts because @theobamadiary was rain-bathing. Chelsea Girl? You rock.

Hey there all you O’s!!! What’s up on this great getting up day in TODville?!? I may have been conditioned, but for some reason, I’m ready for the 2014 mid-terms. I expect we keep the Senate but with gerrymandering, it’ll be tough to take back the House. I read somewhere that a gerrymandered district can turn around with an increase of 7% in voting for the other party. In areas where Dems out-register the ‘pubs, then GOTV can send the teapots packing.

    • August 5, 2013 at 1:36 pm

Hi there Cookemom, every election has felt the same in recent times, but 2014 feels like the most important ever – just think what PBO could achieve if it all worked out. Methinks we need to be more fired up and more ready to go than ever!

    • 33 jackiegrumbacher
      August 5, 2013 at 3:56 pm

Cookemom, sure the 2014 election will be tough, but that’s what they said about PBO in 2007. He was running a gazillion points behind Hillary, she was unstoppable, he was wasting his time, etc, etc, etc. I’m not going to let a little gerrymandering get in our way. If enough people get mad and go out to vote, gerrymandering won’t matter. It’s all in turnout. So let’s all work together to make people mad.

    Morning / Afternoon, Obots!

You probably won’t see much of me for the next two weeks. We’re shifting our fiction section with our non-fiction section at the library, and I have lots of weeding to do. Plus, I was “volunteered” for another weeding project at another library next week. So by the time I start my vacation on the 17th I do feel I will have earned it.

I’ll try to write a couple of essays when I get off work; but more likely than not I’ll be focusing on my novel.

    So carry on! #IStandWithPeteSouza

Hellooooooooooo LL! I thought you were going to say you’d be busy the next two week trying to kidnap Wayne Rooney. Okay, you have permission to be absent occasionally, but if the absence is too long I’ll hunt you down and force-feed you one of my culinary delights, you hear?

I’d swear I posted a comment earlier and now it is totally gone. Oh well, must be WP’s opinion of me.

Anyway, what I basically said is that this past weekend was extremely busy with the four grandkids visiting with their parents. But that is the type of exhaustion my wife and I will be happy to have.

About 4 weeks agho, our younger son announced that he and his wife woule be making us grandparents for a 5th time next February. They have been married 5 years and have been trying very hard to make this happen. They had hope it would happen before my m-i-l passed away last year. They had been seeing specialists, extensive hormone therapy, etc. We figure my m-i-l had something to do with this. Knowing her, shye would bully someone up there.

We had to keep this secret because there were several issues and it will be considered a high risk pregnancy throughout and they wanted to wait until they felt the pregnancy was further established. They let my other son and his family know Saturday, so I guess they are more comfortable with it now.

It is fun watching the two of them as they go through. My son is monitoring all the nausea, etc.

Looking forward to the next several months.

Actually this did indeed happen to me when my twins were infants. I couldn’t tell them apart when I first brought them home from the hospital so one night I feed Baby A and went downstairs to get the bottle for Baby B and when I came back I fed baby A another bottle and Baby B started screaming his head off because he hadn’t been fed at all. To this day I don’t ever let Todd forget that he drank Tev’s bottle. I told him his twins are going to be just as mischievous at they were. πŸ˜‰

Does anyone remember the wonderful movie, The Paper? Michael Keaton, Glen Close, Jason Robards, Marissa Tomei?

There was a scene where the Keaton character is going for an interview at a rival newspaper but word gets out. “How’d you guys find out about this?”

“We’re a newspaper, Henry,” says the late, great Lynne Thigpen.

But it appears that no one at the Post knew about this. They really do just sit and collect 6, 7 figure salaries, waiting for the phone to ring, don’t they?

Anyone watching Martin has just seen Bill De Blasio, the NYC candidate for Mayor that I am supporting. If you are in NYC or have friends and/or family there I hope you will help spread the word about this terrific candidate.

As I’ve posted before, i first met Bill when he showed up in my neighborhood to rally with us in support of keeping our firehouse open. Now he is doing the same thing with hospitals. Bloomberg and his clone Chris Quinn have closed 17 hospitals in NYC and plan to close 5 more. The one in Quinn’s own neighborhood has been converted to condos selling for enormous sums. That is the Quinn Bloomberg plan. Eliminate services and increase expensive housing and hotels.

Bill is an all-around good guy with a happy family and just like that does with POTUS and his family it is driving De Blasios’ opponents mad. They are scrounging around desperate to find dirt on him and failing to do so.

Not incidentally the De Blasio family is multiracial. Bill is a 6’5” white guy and his wife Chirlane a petite AA. Their daughter is in college and their high school age son, Dante, is famous for his giant afro which his father occasionally encourages him to trim—to no avail.

Bill’s campaign theme is a tale of 2 cities rich and poor and one of his stated goals is to address the inequality.
Bill speaks strongly about ending stop and frisk and hiring a Police commisioner who will be responsive to all of us.

All in all a True progressive and a wonderful candidate. Spread the word.

You have some racists haters complaining every time President Obama goes on vacation, but Congress is gone for five weeks, what does these haters have to say about that? President Obama and his family will take a eight day vacation at Martha’s Vineyard. Not a five week vacation. Every single one of the House and Senate is getting paid by we the taxpayer, they have great health insurance, if Government is so bad then why don’t Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and others refuse that pay check, that health insurance.

    • August 5, 2013 at 4:59 pm

Reminder… Congress always exempts themselves from the rules. (I know you hate Joe Scarborough and can’t stand to watch him, it’s just a reminder that when they complain about the “Obamacare mandate,” it doesn’t apply to them. Despicable critters.

      • 149 Nena20409
        August 5, 2013 at 5:06 pm

How did Congress omitted themselves with pres Obama agreeing for that? Was it Not Congress who were insisting that pres Obama be part of the participants in the ACA? They forgot that any POTUS has his Own Medical Unit and Doctors. Jay Carney was asked months ago about pres Obama and ACA. So when did pres Obama sign into law this exemption?

        • August 5, 2013 at 5:22 pm

I am probably the most ignorant person here re: Obamacare.

But it looks like Congress arm-twisted the Fed Govt “Office of Personnel Management” because they are such grifters and cry-babies. Critters, if you will.

        • August 5, 2013 at 7:09 pm

I think the problem was that the government has always subsidized government employees health care. Because of the way the law was written, it was not clear whether the government could continue to do so, or whether the employees (all fed employees I think) would have to foot the cost themselves. The ‘fix’ is just that the government can contribute with the subsidy. I don’t think they exempt themselves from anything. From what I read, it just means they get to be treated like other non-government people. But I could be wrong.

Don’t remember, but I hate that site. They were darlings for awhile because they are digital only. Things are sorting themselves out now, with newpapers being priced at rock-bottom now. It will take people like Bezos, who understands logistics and digital to bend the downward spiral of newspapers back up to where they belong (and where they can afford to pay a reporter to cover the state capitol):

Really don’t like Ariana. Here in CA she ran as one of the 130 candidates during the 2003 Gov election after Gray Davis was recalled (over something really stupid, like vehicle registration tax).

This is from his self-pleasuring performance on This Week yesterday, and he also said this b.s. last week. Because everything is About Him.

    • August 5, 2013 at 5:28 pm

Not only is he the most unempathetic person on the face of the earth (I think they’re called “sociopaths”), but he’s got the biggest ego.

Hated him before, hate him more now.

Idiot. Just hope the MSM is waking up to the vile creature they rallied behind in June.

MSM will rally behind any creature they think will destroy PBO – no matter how vile, that is, until the brunt of the damaging effects are felt, not by PBO, but by the GOP, MSM (which usually ends up being the case).

Wonder how GG fits through doors, Pf. With an ego that size, he must have to walk sideways to get his swelled head through a doorway. I can say with absolute certainty that the President of the United States has not given one nanosecond of thought to Greenwald and would regard any mention of his name as a waste of presidential time. GG is a sick, self-obsessed man who has reached the state of absolute delusion about himself and paranoia about the world he lives in.

You’re so right jackie. Like Sarah Palin, the little attention he got from the feckless MSM made his already oversized ego that much bigger and more delusional.

But the fun will soon be over. PBO is LARGER than the US media, with all their corporate sponsors and mega platforms, they cannot bring this good man down.

EVERYTHING that happens in America, Russia, China is about GG – they could not survive without him – what a piece of work he is.

Secondly, this kind of propaganda is always meant to instill fear. People react when they’re afraid. The trouble is, most often they are attracted to the wrong solutions. Witness Bush/Cheney in the aftermath of 9/11.

Looks like we could use a new thread, so I’ll post a comment. (Based on past experience, a new thread will be up in 5 minutes or less, LOL.)

I neglected to cc: @lawscribe on this tweet; I stopped following @cpen awhile ago because of her frivolous tweets, but when I started following her, she was Twitter Communication Director. Hope she’s still at Twitter.

Still missing keys—best buy was not able to remedy—-sent me to computer guy—-too busy today—-hey, I was just able to type c and m! What???
Anyhoo—–stumbled on neighbor’s facebook page—have lived across from them for 30 years. He had posted a photo of PBO, saying “look how angry PBO looks because he got caught—–look at the scary thing he is reading—–(in so many words)—–and there’s PBO getting off AF1 with Rahm greeting him and he’s holding the book “The Post American World, Fareed Zaharia’s book—–re. U.S spreading democracy has led to the rise of other countries—like china and India—–but this is the kind of junk that people pass along—-trying to make something sinister out of PBO reading a bestselling book. I’m debating with myself whether to say something to correct the paranoia or just move along.

My advice would be not to stir things up. You won’t be able to convince him — he’ll get into a defensive crouch, and people can only hear (not listen and understand) when they’re in that mode.

You’re neighbors, and IMHO, it’s not worth the grief of upsetting someone so close to home.

Just my opinion, not really worth much, but there it is.

Didn’t the Silent Generation always follow the rule of not discussing Religion or Politics between neighbors and kin?

Freaking entitled, spoiled brat taker! http://maddowblog.msnbc.com/_news/2013/08/05/19881583-staring-a-relatively-small-hedge-fund?lite

To set the stage, an unnamed, hyper-wealthy young guy wrote an email to his fraternity brothers, offering some of them a new career opportunity.

As some of you may already know, I have been interested in the world of finance for some time. After a series of summer internships, however, I have somehow found myself without a full-time job offer for the upcoming year. F***n’ Obama’s fault for strangling this economy.

Luckily, due to the tough job market, my dad has agreed to let me access my trust fund early (mid 7-figures) to start a relatively small hedge fund, __β€” Ventures, after graduation. I’m emailing you guys today to let you know that, for the rest rest of the year, I will be recruiting 2 full-time employees and 1 intern to help me get this off the ground.

With my financial expertise, help from my powerful father and connections, and a skilled team, I have no doubt that this fund will rise quickly to prominence. We’ll all get filthy rich and, inevitably, bag hot slampieces. If possible, I’d love to give all 3 of these positions to my brothers.

Benen has something to say about this jackass…..

Hopefully his hedge fund will implode – if anything in the email is true – the finance world was smart to NOT offer him employment. Anyone who supports hedge funds deserves every financial failure that comes their way. hedge funds bet against stability and growth – they should never have been legalized – I equate them to betting which horse will come last – or those auctions where the lowest bid wins.
