1972 Miami Dolphins Meet President Obama

President Barack Obama poses for photos with members of the 1972 Miami Dolphins including head coach Don Shula (R), quarterback Bob Griese (L), and running back Larry Csonka (4th L). President Obama hosted the undefeated 1972 Super Bowl champion who didnt get the chance to be honored at the White House back then.

Cindy Boren: 1972 Miami Dolphins Visit President Obama, White House

President Obama stepped into the East Room of the White House and opened with the words, “It’s mid-August … that means football is in the air.” With that, he requested a crowd that was a little more raucous than usual at these celebrations to “give it up” for the undefeated, untied 1972 Miami Dolphins.” He admitted that it’s “unorthodox” to invite a team so much later for a visit and that so many former players and coaches have changed, now minus “the Afros, the muttonchops and the Fu Manchus.”

Obama, turning serious, noted that the 1972 Dolphins were “a juggernaut” known for a grinding running game, two 2,000 rushers and three shutouts. It was a team that doubled opponents’ scores eight times and “did most of it after” quarterback Bob Griese broke his leg in Week 5. He was replaced, Obama noted, by Earl Morrall, quoting a teammate who said, “He couldn’t run and he couldn’t throw, but he could win.” The Dolphins, Obama said, “did that again and again and again.”

    Congratulations Nena on 1st comment!

The President looks so happy in these pictures. People not only have the opportunity to meet him, but maybe he’s meeting people he’s long admired. Great pics. Thanks!

Obama Presses for Action on Bank Rules

WASHINGTON — President Obama urged the nation’s top financial regulators on Monday to move faster on new rules for Wall Street, telling them in a private White House meeting that they must work to prevent a repeat of the 2008 financial crisis….

Thanks, UT. Didn’t read the post, yet, but think I heard the President say he wanted to have this team in the White House today so he’d be younger than the athletes, for a change. He’s a howl! So glad he has the occasional fun “on the job.”

Welcome back, Chips. Musta missed the link to your arrival ceremony at the airport. Bet it was grand. 🙂

    This is really good news

    States predict more insurance customers

WASHINGTON — Estimates from 19 states operating health insurance exchanges to help the uninsured find coverage show that at least 8.5 million will use the exchanges to buy insurance, a USA TODAY survey shows. That would far outstrip the federal government’s estimate of 7 million new customers for all 50 states under the 2010 health care law….

My beautician turns 26 yrs old next month and I am going to make sure she signs up for Obamacare in Oct. Young men might not want to sign up but any young woman who needs birth control, annual exams, etc., will be signing up for affordable healthcare. I bet their parents will even pay for it just so their kids have insurance.

Maggy, I truly think that Hayes & Maddow is keenly aware of the disgust with them in pushing that emoprog/PL BS regarding Snowden. For instance, tweeter was ablaze last night about both them pushing GG comments about Miranda (GG’s partner and stolen documents carrier) detainment in Heathrow.

However, when I watched the 1st rerun of both shows last night, it was barely a mention (if at all) of GG and the detainment. I don’t watch Hayes and I rarely watch Maddow of late, but I ventured there last night and I was surprise. Just saying.

I saw the same thing on tonight’s shows, RanMan. Looks like chris hayes and rachel jumped the shark and not in a good way. I think we all expected better of them. Seems they grabbed the glen/snow merry-go-round and didn’t know when to get off.

GE Chips, TOD. Congrats on first Neena!

THERE is an indisputable elegance to the idea of transforming garbage into fuel, of turning icky, smelly detritus into something valuable. But big drawbacks have prevented the wholesale adoption of trash-to-gas technology in the United States: ……

Mike Hart thinks that he has solved those problems. In a former Air Force hangar outside Sacramento, his company, Sierra Energy, has spent the last several years testing a waste-to-energy system called the FastOx Pathfinder. The centerpiece, a waste gasifier that’s about the size of a shower stall, is essentially a modified blast furnace. A chemical reaction inside the gasifier heats any kind of trash — whether banana peels, used syringes, old iPods, even raw sewage — to extreme temperatures without combustion. The output includes hydrogen and carbon monoxide, which together are known as syngas, for synthetic gas, and can be burned to generate electricity or made into ethanol or diesel fuel. The FastOx is now being prepared for delivery to Sierra Energy’s first customer: the United States Army.

Dunno. It doesn’t have to be accurate to be on Anderson’s show! Whatever they all think of to say, they say, truth be damned.

JO’B, it doesn’t have to be accurate to be on a vast majority of the ‘news’ shows. It just has to have the potential to be scandalous, to stir up a lot of noise.

      August 20, 2013 at 10:13 pm

The most irritating thing about all this for me (apart from the fact that GG and his buddies are playing games) is that journos have been calling them whistle blowers for so long everyone seems to have accepted the false nomenclature.

Actually, JOB, I’m not sure he does know that. Cruz’s ego is almost the equal of GG’s. He saw PBO ascend to the presidency after being in the Senate a short time and he has such an exaggerated opinion of himself he thinks he can do it too. When he looks in the mirror he doesn’t see the repellent face we do. He doesn’t hear the grating voice and he doesn’t recognize how out of synch he is with anyone but the radical right. He sees greatness in that old mirror and a host of possibilities for himself.

You are probably right. There’s a lot of personal “stuff” going on in his head. After I saw his father speak so viciously – last week, I think – it reminded me of the George HW / George W, Ron / Rand, George / Mitt combinations, which never worked out so well for the sons. Of all of them, this guy is the creepiest. Makes my skin crawl!

“The Bears lost once in their nearly perfect season.”

Enter Shula, who piped up from his seat in a motorized cart parked to Obama’s left.

“Who beat ’em?!” Shula shouted over Obama, causing the room to break out in laughter.

“It happened to be to the Dolphins,” Obama conceded. “So I think you made your point. Nobody can argue with this record.”

“We had some private time (with Obama),” Shula said. “He’s just an amazing sports fan. I’m thinking, ‘You’ve got to be a great sports fan to talk about some of the things he talked about.’ The game plans … The 1985 Bears …”

Shula then paused for a moment.

“I didn’t let him talk much about the ’85 Bears,” Shula said. “You know, there’s one team that beat them that year.”

    Yes, Coach. We know.

    And so does the president.

    Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Just popping in to make a comment on Al Jazeera America.

It just did a story on US aid to Egypt. It was, dare I say, *nuanced*. It didn’t explode in righteous anger that PBO hasn’t personally gone over to Cairo to kick out the military. It gave a breakdown of all the interests that the US has in the region. It was something I haven’t seen on US media in aeons.

I now return to my vacation. We went clothes shopping for Mrs. LL today, and she’s dropped 3 shirt and pant sizes!

        • August 20, 2013 at 8:51 pm

          My bastard providers AT&T- U-verse dropped them today….. was channel 189 *(^((&*(#Q

People who were curious about the new channel but were not able to access it on TV found that they could not access it online, either. It is not being live-streamed on the Internet, much to the disappointment of a small but vocal group of longtime Al Jazeera viewers in the United States.

Those fans had grown accustomed to watching the pan-Arab broadcaster’s existing English-language news channel, called Al Jazeera English, via the Internet. But on Monday, Al Jazeera English turned off its live stream for users in the United States. It also started to geo-block the news reports it posts on YouTube, so that instead of seeing the videos, American users saw a message that said, “The uploader has not made this video available in your country.”

        • August 20, 2013 at 9:25 pm

UPDATE: AJA is suing my bastard provider AT&T U-verse…… woohoooo

On Tuesday evening, Al Jazeera said it was looking to the court system to resolve the contract dispute.

“Unfortunately AT&T’s decision to unilaterally delete Al Jazeera America presented us with circumstances that were untenable — an affiliate that has willfully and knowingly breached its contractual obligations,” the broadcaster said in a statement. “We had no choice but to take this action and to enforce Al Jazeera’s rights under its agreement with AT&T — and to compel AT&T to do the right thing.”

The complaint, filed in Delaware Chancery Court, accuses AT&T of wrongful termination and seeks restoration of the channel as well as damages.

AT&T said it had not yet seen the lawsuit. In a statement, it hinted that Current’s transformation into Al Jazeera gave it an opening to drop the channel: “As a result of our inability to come to terms on a new agreement and due to certain breaches of the existing agreement, we have decided not to carry Current TV on U-verse.”

Ut, aren’t all states supposed to have exchanges, even if they are set up exclusively by HHS? If only 19 states are estimating 8 million, then the final total will be much larger when the exchanges are everywhere. Of course, some states will do everything in their power to prevent people from getting information, but they can’t block the information forever.

Fans of Robin Williams will be glad, today, to learn that he is still alive and well. Not because he has been ill. Nor has he been involved in an accident. Nor was he anywhere near an Austrian mountain range, as has been suggested by the latest internet death hoax. Despite providing a story that was remarkably similar to the death hoax that tried to kill off Ryan Gosling recently, there were still people across the globe who were gullible enough to believe the news that Williams had fallen to his death whilst shooting a film in Kitzbuhel, Austria.

Goldie Hawn unintentionally caused the rumor to accelerate when she posted a message on Twitter saying “Correction! Robin Gibbs has sadly passed. RIP jcm1009: goldiehawn Actor Robin Williams Falls To his death.” She was attempting to clear up the misunderstanding after the user jcm1009 had sent her a message claiming that Williams had died. …

While GOPs putter around with no clear alternatives and pundits ramble ad nauseum while saying nothing worthwhile, the Obama administration continues to move forward, accomplishment by accomplishment.

“The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division announced today that it has joined with private plaintiffs in entering an interim settlement agreement with the state of Texas intended to enable Texans with intellectual and other developmental disabilities to live in community settings rather than nursing facilities. The interim agreement calls for the state to begin expanding community alternatives to nursing facilities for thousands of persons with these types of disabilities, while the parties temporarily suspend their ongoing litigation and work to negotiate a comprehensive settlement of all remaining issues in the case.

The litigation involves claims that the state has not complied with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), other federal statutes and the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Olmstead v. L.C. in ways leading to the needless institutionalization of people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities in nursing facilities.

The Civil Rights Division enforces the ADA, which authorizes the Attorney General to investigate whether a state is serving individuals in the most integrated settings appropriate to their needs. Please visit http://www.justice.gov/crt and http://www.ada.gov to learn more about the ADA and other laws enforced by the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division.

Hey TOD Family, I hope all is well. I feel the need to share a major concern I have regarding the operation of the
“Clinton Machine” in preparation for Hillary’s expected run for the Presidency.

Before I express my concern, let it be known, I think if Hillary decides to run, it would be absolutely historical.

If she’s the nominee I will work my azz off to help her get elected, just as I did with our current Greatest President in my life time; President Barack Obama.

With that said, I strongly believe that the Clinton Machine is operating to undermine President Obama in such away that potential legislative/policy achievements will be sabotage by the CM so as to give early legislative/policy victories to Hillary.

Obamabots, please don’t under estimate James Carville, Lanny Davis, Howard Wolfson, MSM and those Clintonites currently in PBO’s administration.

I hope I am wrong, but I doubt that very seriously. Just be prepared.
