A-hole Cuccinelli doesn’t even know workers usually pay into Social Security their entire working lives, so they can start drawing on those benefits when they reach the magical age. And that people on Medicare pay into that, and, even when you start drawing on your Social Security, another chunk is taken from Social Security each month toward Medicare. Some people don’t even live long enough to receive any of these benefits, and what they didn’t receive will probably go into the “lockbox” to pay Ken Doll’s elderly parents’ benefits, although we probably won’t know that since I doubt anybody would actually admit to being related to him.

I suppose he’d like me to give back my federal retiree benefits, too. You know, the account I paid into every two weeks for 30 years, when I worked for the U.S. government.

Yes, I’m a Democrat so I “only” worked a total of 43 years in my life, so guess they think I should have made it to an even number, eh? Balderdash. (Ha!)

How are you tonight, my dear friend? What’s that border inscription, again?

The floods in Colorado sound devastating – having lived through floods I send them many thoughts for their safety and wellbeing. The recovery will be long – but already the President has approved federal disaster assistance

My son is in Boulder County and I’m worried. He’s not calling back or emailing or messaging. I’m a worry wart anyway. Just heard about Afghanistan. Pray, light a candle, whatever you do.

It is a worrying time Carolmae – I will light a candle – that works for me – The first thing we seem to lose in floods is power – which may be why your haven’t heard from your son. He may also be busy helping folks – or he might be like my daughter & not realize that parents are worry warts! Take care.

I will, trying to find morning news. It’s 8:00am here and in Denver MDT. Thanks for thinking of me.

            • September 13, 2013 at 2:32 pm

Think you might be sleeping, but my son finally called and they’re fine. He called about 11:00 am MDT. They live in a little unincorporated town and they are getting rain and more forecasted for next three days. He works in downtown Denver and is able to walk to bus station and take a rail bus to Denver and then has to go about another block or two to his hi rise. He talked to his Dad. They didn’t get the flooding others did. His house is on top of a slope. Thank goodness. His wife is getting two days off because she works in Boulder. The rain is moving north and they have closed I25 from WY to Denver if you are into maps. We were planning to visit them next week. Leaving Fri. morn. Hope it has soaked in by then; and the sun is shining. It’s hard to fit in a visit with them. They are young and active. . .
              Thanks for your thoughtfulness.
Did the election in Australia turn out okay for you? Do like having to vote? Do you pay. Fine if you don’t? Do they give civics lessons? How did some of those strange parties do? Wish we had a Stupid Party for some of our voters. 😉 Have a great day when you get up, it’s springtime there now isn’t it?

                September 13, 2013 at 7:56 pm

Glad to hear all is well – flood without any accompanying storms rarely result in fatalities – but the flashflood/unexpected events can do. The worst is the aftermath – often no power, no access to the usual places – and if your house has been under water – the mud and the stench – ahhh. We also live on a hill – very useful.

It’s spring in my world & hot already – which indicates a hot… summer. Our elections will have some horrible outcomes – although I gather the new PM is 150% supporting PBO – the right wing in our country is still relatively sane.

I don’t think there is much “civics” taught in our schools. My parents taught me most of what I knew about politics – until I took a couple of courses in college. My daughter asks me – she often gets it wrong. I’ve always voted – cause it’s compulsory. I think it’s a good idea.

                • September 13, 2013 at 8:29 pm

Thanks 99, I’m so relieved. They are now saying on the news twitter lines that 80 people are missing. There are a lot of photos and you wouldn’t believe how dramatic it looks. There is a river in WY south of us that has risen. 13.5 ft. in a little over a day. We had a flash flood in what I think I lost desert and a young man was killed a few months ago because a park drain was properly grated. Lucky his little boy didn’t get caught in it too.
Everything in Australia is opposite us, right guy supports PBO, it’s springtime. 😉 They quit teaching civics in our schools too. I think it should be mandatory. We need to know how to be good citizens. You have a great day. I’m going to wind down with some movies with hubby.

Hopefully the 80 includes people like your son who haven’t been in touch with family. The media will always give the worst case scenario – but flash flooding is the worst as no-one gets any warning

                    Enjoy the movies

    Good night guys.

Bringing this over from the other thread.

I’m up later than usual, but I just got back from the bowling alley. A lady at my job convinced me to join her bowling league and I agreed to join. So if ya know me, then you’ll know I’m kinda anti – social, why in the world did I agree to do this? Figured it was better than sitting on my couch surfing the net & watching tv…meh.

So I just got back from my bowling excursion.

I hate to say it but I enjoyed myself.

To be honest, I only gonna give it a least one season and then I’m gonna reevaluate it. this is basically the first time I’ve bowled since high school, so almost 20 years at least 15. 2 of the team members bowl at least 2x a week. The other guy is a “newbie” but he just hasn’t bowled in a least a year. Everyone seems nice, but some are really competitive even though they say they’re not. So I need to up my game. I hate being the worse at anything. I am at least consistently the last…lol

So I’m the “newbie” and I HATE it. I can def get competitive and obsessed about it…ugh.

Oh and now my legs are killing me and my “bowling finger” is killing me.

    good night.

JOB, that would mean you can’t negotiate with the entire Republican Party. It’s why PBO’s only response to the House economy wreckers is that he’s “not negotiating.”

JOB, With all due respect and reverence to GOD, this Friday, September 13th is very special to me because it’s the Birthday of my favorite niece! She called me to day to gloat about FLOTUS’ promotion of water drinking because, like FLOTUS, she is a strong believer in the health benefits of water drinking and regular exercises. Although she is in her mid-thirties, she still looks like a teenager. She is very active and very health conscious; unlike her lazy uncle (me) who believes in the health benefits of wine, and find it difficult to drink more than one or two glasses of water a day. She knows how much I love the Obamas and she wanted me to pay attention to what FLOTUS is saying about the importance of drinking water. Any way, tomorrow (CA time) we get to celebrate her Birthday. Interestingly, for both my daughter (1/13) and my niece (9/13) there are years when their birthdays fall on Friday the 13th. This makes it special for our family.

Oh, nath, I enjoyed that story so much. Favorite part, of course, was “who believes in the health benefits of wine”! I’ll “trade” the water for wine, any old day, not that I can drink that much of the wine “at this age.” Happy, happy birthday to your niece! She sounds like a very fine person, even if she calls her uncle to gloat!

I looked at that picture, and thought that the moment must have been bittersweet. On the one hand – he was President of the United States. On the other hand – he had a doozy of a messed up country to clean up, and nobody knew how to do it yet. But, if there’s one person who can compartmentalize – it’s President Obama!

“Dog alerts parents to abusive babysitter”

Dog’s reaction to sitter made parents suspicious.

    http://living.msn.com/family-parenting/pets/off-the-leash-blog-post?post=8462f173-9503-49a1-af28-b58e85f11138

When the Jordan family moved to Charleston, S.C., with their then 7-month-old son, Finn, they hired a 22-year-old babysitter whose background check had come up clean. And while they trusted Alexis Khan with the care of their baby for five months — their dog didn’t.

“We started to notice that our dog was very defensive of our son when she would come in the door,” said Benjamin Jordan. “He was very aggressive towards her and a few times we actually had to physically restrain our dog from going towards her.”

…parents … put a phone under the couch to record what was happening… audio recording captured the sounds of the sitter cussing at and slapping the baby while he cried…Khan … pleaded guilty to assault and battery. She’ll be placed on a child abuse registry so she won’t be allowed to work with kids again.

Hello and good morning TODers! I’ve spent the last few days lurking and posting here and there. I’ve been staying with my parents for the past few weeks before I “officially” move in to my apartment this Sunday, and they get the WaPo (we’re longtime DC suburbanites, guess it’s a hard habit to break). It’s been strange reading an actual newspaper, and I take much of what they say with a grain of salt (especially the editorials), but this article absolutely disgusted me.
A supposed “Democratic” mayor in a Democratic city would fall for the corporate bully that is the Wal-Mart monster.
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/mayor-gray-vetoes-living-wage-bill-aimed-at-wal-mart-setting-up-decisive-council-vote/2013/09/12/664d7310-077d-11e3-a07f-49ddc7417125_story.html?hpid=z5
I have little hope his veto will be overridden, but who knows.

      September 13, 2013 at 9:19 am

Hi Ark – that was sad to read – corporate welfare over people – hopefully it will change. Hope all goes well with the new apartment – have to admit I loved my “solo” apartment when I was “suddenly single”. It was in what we call a “6 pack” – 1 building, 6 apartments. Could have made a sitcom/real life drama about the 6 families that we were – I can’t remember the names but I sure remember the people.

      • 91 arkluvspbo
        September 13, 2013 at 4:00 pm

Thank you 99ts, it’s coming along well and I’m excited to finally settle in once and for all. Apartment life is ripe for sitcom folly, that’s for sure. Many of the characters that were there when I left 4.5 years ago…the SARs lady, yappy mutt lady and Kermit the frog wreath lady…are still there, so it should be interesting times ahead :).
