May be true of Repubs in Congress, those who make it seem more prevalent because they have the microphones and spotlight, those who represent ultra conservative districts, mostly in the South. But for their foot soldiers, their supporters who do their dirty work, the tea party types—-not privileged at all. I always laughed when they were described as wealthy or from the upper echelons—-ummmm no—-hardly—-all you had to do is look at them—–and notice their undereducated misspelled signs. I know who these people are. They are the ones who always clung to the deluded belief that ‘well, at least I’m better than those black people.’ And then—–more and more they noticed they weren’t——and then one of those guys who was supposed to remain beneath them even had the nerve to become POTUS, which was the ultimate insult to them, the final proof that they had lost that one step up they were desperately clinging to. Most educated, “successful” white people support PBO.

Yes, all that. But there are a lot of older, “successful” white people in gated communities who were some of the first to sign up for tea party rallies and rah rah rah. One was at The Villages in Florida (55+ community, with a lot of transplants from all over the country) – I lived near there at the time – where Sarah Palin spoke, and it was a freakin’ mob scene.

I will just add that almost every new community in Fl., and I imagine elsewhere, is “gated”, from low end apt. communities to high end estates. It’s usually a joke, a fake facade—-some guard gate at the entrance, providing a look of security, when anyone could walk thru the bushes 20 yards away if they were real intent on doing bad stuff. I guess they all figured they had to provide that for marketing purposes. And the Villages?—-that’s not where highly educated, wealthy people go to retire——they were huge Palin fans because they came from that same sort of background and mentality.

I laughed at your gated community reference (it’s not just the newer places; some have been gated for decades), which is correct in so many cases. Lived in a couple non-retirement gated communities in a couple locations in Florida, and they did not have guards at the front gate (many do), and would leave the gates open all day for the delivery people, which negated any promise of “security” at night. Used to get a chuckle myself over that. But there are many (hey, it’s The Sunshine State) millionaire gated communities (think celebrities) in Florida and elsewhere, right next door, where there are scores of educated, white, professional people living, many of whom voted with the tea party. It’s not just the unwashed, poor spellers, unfortunately.

Mentioned The Villages because I knew people who are retired, educated professionals who lived there (as their winter home) and also two 40-ish guys who actually attended the rally (I gagged at the time) when Sarah Palin appeared there (they described the white seniors they saw as pushy, bossy, nasty people – glad I didn’t live inside those pearly gates!). We can’t just think lower-income, non-professional people with or without high-school diplomas support the tea party “non-values,” or we’re wearing veils over our eyes. We just have to look at Republican backers and voters to see that awful reality.

In any event, thanks for the chuckle over the gated communities. Currently live in an un-gated suburb where I’m feeling just as safe.

“Most educated, “successful” white people support PBO.”

I am not so sure! Surely, most in the media are “educated” and “successful white people.” Yet, all they do is attack and attack President Obama, usually based on manufactured lies and sensationalism.

I read on the blog that mental health and substance abuse will be included in the ACA. Anyone know anything about that? Will it be included in all plans or just some? Does mental health include marriage counseling? Not sure where to check on this as someone I know wanted to know. I referred them to the 1-800 number and the section on healthcare.gov that mentioned local questions. Not sure what else I could do.

Never forget the powerful roll of Donna Reed (‘Mary Hatch’) in ‘A Wonderful Life’ – she was the one who rallied everyone to defeat Potter.

We must abolish any effort to return the USA to slavery and any of its variants of which the Hoovervilles (Pottersville) in the 20th Century and the Kochvilles of the 21st Century are manifestations of the unrelenting avarice of the few to enslave the many.

Never forget that the most evil aspect of Mitt’s ‘47%’ moment of transparency into just how evil he is was his matter of fact description of truly FEMALE slave labor conditions at a Chinese appliance manufacturer in which HE willingly invested.

Make no mistake, if we don’t prevail it’s not the GOP that’s dead, it’s humanity that’s extinct.

Not just the Times. Now that deBlasio holds his 40+ point lead a week away from the election there is a widespread effort to deny his Progressive and Liberal agenda. You know, “he was just kidding” with that equality stuff. Stories of how Bill is reaching out to frightened 1% ers.

Can’t believe Andrea Mitchell on Today today just going wild on the SHOCKING news that countries spy on each other. She’s showing the huge crowds in Europe who attended Obama’s events, saying “That was then. This is now”, showing Angela Merkel looking real troubled on a cell phone (with someone?) and PBO with a sad face. It was the most politically slanted, breathless report ever.

No different than the breathless negative reports she did last week, month, year. They think if they bash PBO that it’s a ratings score. People like her live for these moments. I watched a couple minutes of her daytime show during the shutdown a few weeks back and she has got to be the absolute worse tv pundit on cable. She has no flow, is not conversational and she does nothing to engage her audience. She lost me in the first 5 minutes. Her national persona with the public has deteriorated greatly over the years. NBC just hasn’t figured that out yet!

If we are lucky the new daytime show starring Rowan Farrow will be Andrea’s replacement. MSNBC did say it was a daily weekday, right?

    Good Morning TOD!

I realize that he just recently won his election but now that it is over I’m curious if Corey Booker has been doing any campaigning for Barbara Buono or does he and Christie have some sort of agreement not to campaign against one another?

Cory hasn’t been certified yet. Can’t join Senate until Christie puts through the certification. Makes you wonder.

Oh please…..I am sick and tired of all this hyper self-righteous twaddle over spying. These are the same people who LOVE James Bond movies, Bourne, ……and all the spy fiction and non-fiction available. The only thing that’s changed is the means and the scope. Kings used to have spies IN other kings’ bedrooms for goodness sakes. Notice Cameron hasn’t bee saying ANYTHING!!! And Hollande has quieted down…..now, Mexico and Brazil have their knickers in a twist? I’m sure Angela is just mad that she didn’t do it first!!!
    there…..my small rant.

I just have to say…. I LOOOOOOVE that picture of the President and Malia! When he is with those girls, his entire body and face change. I wish every young girl in the world could have a father who feels about her the way President Obama feels about his girls.
