Also cheesecake, hamburgers, shaved ice, cookies. Our President sure eats a lot more than we might expect for such a slim sleek man.

I once worked for a big, gentle, rotund guy: Charlie. 6’5″. 375lb+ He was somewhere between Hoss Cartwright and just a huge enlarged human baby in a suit! He was ROUND, happy and hair-impaired. Aptly he ADORED babies!! Whenever someone brought in an infant he just jiggled with joy! ANYWAY…..His famous saying: “I ONLY like TWO kinds of pie.”

    “Really Charlie, what are they?”

    “HOT PIE AND……………………COLD PIE!!!!”

In recent years, as the cost of judicial campaigns has soared, the boundaries that keep money and political pressure from interfering with the rule of law have become increasingly blurred.

Thirty-eight states conduct elections for their Supreme Courts, including partisan and nonpartisan contested elections and up-or-down judicial retention votes. During the 2011–12 election cycle, many of these judicial races seemed alarmingly indistinguishable from ordinary political campaigns—featuring everything from Super PACs and mudslinging attack ads to millions of dollars of candidate fundraising and independent spending.

Since 2000, The New Politics of Judicial Elections series has tracked the increased politicization and escalating spending in state judicial campaigns, as well as the growing role of special interest money. These trends continued in 2011-12, even as several new and troubling developments emerged.

The 2011–12 cycle saw $33.7 million in television spending, far exceeding the previous two-year record of $26.6 million in 2007–08.

“In case you haven’t noticed, something’s afoot with our judicial system. Across the country, large sums of money—much of it secret—are pouring into the races for high court judges. And in several states, partisan groups with funds from undisclosed sources are out to punish justices for rulings the partisans don’t like.”

Hey TOD Family, I hope all is well with everyone. Thanks UT for the excellent job you and others do in helping Ms. Chips out. Congrats Vicki, on being first this lovely Saturday evening. Don’t for get to set your clocks back 1hr Sunday if you are affected by daylight savings time.

h/t to df and Alice ….

The one aspect of an otherwise outstanding analysis and set of recommendations offered by Mr Gross was his whine about PBO. PBO has offered extensive recommendations regarding infrastructure investments, as well as other investments such as clean energy, in all his budgets and in his jobs bill. We know that the corrupt, obstructionist, genuinely anti-American Congress are the enemy with regard to investment in America and job creation.

    Thanks all.
The First was a pick-me-up for a pretty blue day.
    Not usually my thing but
I went to an anti-fracking rally near an exisiting and as of a day or two ago operational pipeline of the West side of Lower Manhattan. It was a sobering experience. The Fracking Agenda is more advanced than I had realized.
To complete the days theme HBO is showing Promised Land tonight.

In other news the GOP wants to deprive hungry people of the assistance they need and should have.

We better get President Obama a Congress he can work with in 2014 or the future looks increasingly bleak.

Love the pie video, but disappointed because it ended before I could find out what the die-hard Republican owner had to say…

The pie speech was given in Philadelphia. Not familiar with the area (been there twice in my life), but like this photo, taken today.

MSNBC has been testing their Libertarian propaganda on different hosts – especially once they realized that the core audience was turned off from Chris Hayes (who they initially promoted to be their chief Libertarian propagandist). Their goal is to keep shoving that Libertarian crap down people’s throats – in a very insidious manner.

But this is going to backfire – people aren’t that stupid.

It is very troubling that the Democratic establishment in NJ are abandoning State Sen Buono for this RWer Christy, who has done more damage to the financial and social well being of that state. Democrates/Liberals/Progressives across the country should be calling them out vociferously at every opportunity.

Righteous rant. Someone got a clue.

Thigpen further explains, “I didn’t go to war to defend the liberties and freedoms of one Party, race, sex, or one income class of Americans. Whether white, black, Hispanic, Asian, man, woman, gay, lesbian, straight, rich, or poor – we fought together as equals, side-by-side for the benefit of every American in the same. So, to come home from serving our country and see North Carolina legislators using their super-majority status to gerrymander districts and pass a law to deliberately suppress and oppress the voting rights of Democrats but more specifically minorities and college students, is absolutely deplorable. This same group of spineless legislators piggybacked a motorcycle safety bill with legislation intentionally geared to shut down women’s health clinics because of their ‘right righteous’ beliefs on abortion, while then cutting funding to the programs which help feed and provide healthcare to the babies they invariably forced the same women to have. Sounds like the Christian thing to do, huh? These legislators, acting under the guise of the religious right and morality believe themselves to be the divine judge but according to the Bible, there is only one judge. They say they’re for a smaller government and individual rights while pushing legislation for more government intervention and regulation usurping our right to choose for ourselves. They take money away from the public school system so they can call it broken, only to give the money to their charter schools that are really private schools, just so our kids don’t go to the same school as theirs all the while giving some great speech trying to convince us it isn’t segregation. Right. But all along, they seemingly want you to believe that you have a choice – like ‘cake or death.’

You know Bob, You’ve been spot on all along! These billionaires spoiled brats, who inherited their fortune from their father, and probably have never worked a day in their lives, are determined to wage war with their billions to destroy this country. I hope We the People wake up in time to derail their destruction. The Koch brothers, despite their age, are still very spoiled children who see the obstruction of government as a chess game. This pretty much typical of people who inherit wealth without having been properly taught the responsibilities of citizenship. There are many wealthy people who fully comprehend one of the main goals of the founders: The Promotion of the General Welfare of all the people of the United States!; and not just the rich spoiled billionaires!

So as I wrote a few hours ago HBO showed The Promised Land which is a surprisingly smart movie about fracking in Upstate New York.
What’s smart is that the story shows a Gas company sales man who is having trouble getting people to sign away their farmland getting an assist from an “environmental expert hippie type” who turns out Shock! Shock! to work for the same Big gas conglomerate.
The main point of the movie is that the Big $$$ have every side of any conflict bought, paid for, covered. Choice for the rest of us is an illusion.

All of which explains Greenwald and all the so-called liberals emoprogs whatever— who we feel betrayed by.
If you accept the movie’s thesis the Bashirs, Alex and so on who appear to have turned were working against us all along.

    • November 2, 2013 at 10:16 pm

Vicki, this is exactly what the message in the tweet immediately above your comment, declares.

The power of the Kochs and their fellow plutocrats is enormous.

They already OWN 4 Supreme Court Justices, most GOP Senators, most House GOP members, numerous State Governors, a large number of Federal and State Justices, and numerous State Houses – without firing a shot (excepting, of course, all those who die every day due to their unrestrained exploitation of fear and supply of weapons of war to millions of Americans under the banner of the 2nd Amendment).

That President Obama prevailed in 2008 was not part of their plan; that he was re-elected stunned them. Now, they know they must prevail or they are going to fail.

The propaganda around Christie in NJ and the fact that “Democratic Voters” are supportive of him shows you just how dangerous the Kochs are. With his record, in a State that just elected Cory Booker to the US Senate, Christie should get trounced on Tuesday.

We either win this war at the ballot box, beginning next Tuesday, and resoundingly on 4 Nov 2014, or the very real 21st Century Civil War will be lost without a shot being fired.

      Yes WE MUST

In case anyone is around to answer this question—–what was the damning proof that Martin Bashir and Alex Wagner are now ‘Glenn Greenwald supporting Libertarians? I don’t think they are Greenwald cultists. I believe that head honchos at MSNBC are pushing Libertarian propaganda and instruct their employees to act accordingly.

No, I’m saying that I am not sure where Jeff got his evidence from (he may have perfectly valid reasons for making that claim) – but I personally have not seen any evidence that Bashir or Wagner are Greenwald Cultists. I do know that they sometimes push whatever MSM narrative – even false ones, which sometimes include propaganda from the likes of Greenwald and his Libertarian sponsors at MSNBC. But that doesn’t mean that they are cultists, in my opinion. I would need to see more direct evidence – like a tweet, or an opinion expressed outside of reporting an MSM narrative.

    I’m testing this.

One month into #ACA enrollment, 32,485 Kentuckians have signed up on @kynectky & 41% of those are under the age of 35. #kynect #healthierky— Steve Beshear (@GovSteveBeshear) November 1, 2013

If it didn’t work, it’s a tweet from KY Gov Steve Beshear. 32,485 ACA enrollments (almost 10% of KY’s uninsured), 41% of which are under the age of 35! That’s over 1,000 per day.

I think it’s important for two reasons: other red states will be watching these stats, and I think the fact that 41% are under 35 is an indication of what’s to come country-wide.

P.S. I’m so busy reading all your posts that I never have time to tell you all what a great job you’re doing. This is the best site on the web!
