Hey Chips-a-doodle, I notice you lost your way a bit this morning! Poor thing, having to travel to the village in the dark, without that first cup of coffee, Danny scrambling at your heels, all because you overslept. Poor thing.

Holding the door open?? In my youth every man I knew would hold the door open – especially when getting on the bus – today they walk over the top of you in the rush to get a seat – but equality and all that – just sometimes I like a few things from the past.

Apparently from the facebook page, they ran tests and all came back normal, so he will remain in the hospital today for observation and won’t be at work. Hope he can return back to the Senate tomorrow in good health. Perhaps the stress of the holidays plus trying to finish everything by a given date is taking its toll.

    Morning, TOD.
AMK mentioned this on the last thread but it bears repeating:
Private ACA signups now over 1.3 Million, total with Medicaid+SCHIP well over 3 Million and that is not simply individuals, many of those enrollments are families. Stupendous!

America is getting healthcare going for its people. What could be better than this??

Just keep the attention on Duck Dynasty you media whores. That level of triviality and hate is your true place.

The Obama Administration will take good care of the rest of our society.

US media is so like a group of youngsters giggling over the “dirty words” in the dictionary (I have a long memory of lunch breaks on a wet school day). I do not understand their fixation (and that of the RWNJs) with talking about and regulating people’s sexuality. Nothing more than government gone truly & utterly wrong – and these are the same people who complain about big governmint.

People like Duck – or Palin – only bring these issues up because – sex – dirty words – and they highlight their complete lack of understanding of personal relationships.

South Africa’s biggest trade union has announced that it is withdrawing its support for the ANC ahead of next year’s election – a big blow to the governing party.

The 330,000-member National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) said it would not endorse any party.

Trade unions and the Communist Party have been in a tri-partite alliance with the ANC since 1994.

But poor South Africans have become increasingly critical of the ANC.

They accuse it of corruption and not doing enough to tackle poverty.

How can this happen twice in one person’s life——-arriving home in the dead of winter without one’s winter coat? My oldest daughter—–super smart, reading at age 2, advanced degrees, successful in fam and career—- but with a dippsy doodle streak—–has once again managed to arrive home in December without her brand new full length coat. This unbelievable phenomenon happened when she was in high school also——arrived home in Dec. without her coat. I was incredulous. How could you possibly not notice that you are not wearing your coat when it’s 20 degrees outside? That one was finally located a couple days later—–she had been trying on clothes at the local dept. store and had left it in the dressing room—–and somehow managed to drive home oblivious without it. This time she swears she only went to the post office to mail cards and packages and worked from home the rest of the day, and her coat has once again gone poof! Someone on facebook said a homeless person is maybe real nice and cozy today sporting a new winter coat, and she said she hoped that was the case because then at least this mysterious event has a happy ending.

My youngest daughter was always leaving jackets places and not noticing it as a child. I thought it might have something to do with the fact that she had too much clothes so it did not have that the stuff did not have that much value to her. She inherited her sisters clothing and her brothers’ stuff. Family friends passed on clothing to her too. She rarely got new things except for Xmas and birthdays. I turned the tables and let her choose every other time the new article of clothing her sister got that got passed to her. Boy, did she watch her sister like a hawk to be sure she treated the clothes good!
I decided it really was just her personality after all since as a grownup without that many outfits today she still loses coats even when she loves them.

The general in charge of the US Air Force’s long-range nuclear missiles was sacked for conduct “unbecoming of a gentleman” during a business trip to Russia in July, a report says.

The newly declassified document says Maj Gen Michael Carey drank too much and met “suspect” foreign women.

He could not recall significant events or was “untruthful”, the report says.

Gen Carey’s removal came days after the Navy sacked an admiral overseeing nuclear forces over illegal gambling.

The two dismissals follow several other incidents affecting the US military’s nuclear establishment.

Good morning. So much good information on earlier threads, I got caught up reading everything, including links. Had a wonderful Christmas party with our monthly Progressives meeting group and we all agreed that our work is going to have to be intense in 2014. We’re still struggling to identify a congressional candidate who can go up against our Republican congressman. Very disturbing that no one’s coming forward, while we have more governor candidates than any three states need. The weather is warming up for the weekend and our precious grandbaby is coming to visit (oh and mom and dad, as well). Can’t wait!!!!

Before I head off to work (LAST DAY BEFORE VACA!!!) thought I’d post this MORNING MUST READ for all you other early risers that are now arriving…

The Republican Party is a cult worthy of Jim Jones, and all across America, it’s killing off its followers, just like Jim Jones did.
For reasons that typically have to do with god, gays or guns, low-income people across America frequently vote Republican, thus becoming Republican cultist followers.
And then, just like the followers at Jonestown, they let their leaders in the Republican Party pass out “policy Kool-aid” that actually kills some of them.
For example, right now, 23 states, led by mostly Republican lawmakers, are refusing to expand Medicaid under Obamacare.
As a result, millions of low-income Americans won’t have access to life-saving health care and medications.
And those millions of Americans include the “followers” of the GOP who helped give Republicans control of the House.
Meanwhile, as Republicans are taking away health care from their “followers,” they’re also taking away their food.
Last month, thanks to Republican opposition, Congress failed to extend food stamp benefits to more than 47 million Americans. For a family of four receiving food stamp benefits, that means 21 fewer meals per month.
And, 2.3 million children in California and Texas alone have lost access to food thanks to the Republican-backed cuts.
So, the Republican Party is killing off its “followers” by denying them health care and food. But it doesn’t stop there.

    More at the link.

GM all from beautiful, though cloudy, Chicago.

Last year around this time I was talking about the total lack of snow for two years in a row and lamenting the lack of a white Christmas.

So far, we have had the most December snow in 5 years and are double the average snowfall so far in December. Some melting today, but Sunday could get several, several inches, depending on what area a person is in.

If I were Limbaugh or Hannity I would talk about how this proves global warming is a hoax, but since I actually have a brain, I won’t.

A good read – explaining the real DC to the pundits

“I canโ€™t help but think that maybe if the people who are so convinced that D.C. politics is one big douche-parade left the Hill every now and again, they might change their tunes. Maybe youโ€™re the one stuck in the Beltway insider bubble, not everyone else in D.C.”

The cultural lens that distorts the media’s perception of President Obama

But there is yet another cultural lens that distorts the media’s perception of this President. Perhaps it is the legacy of Watergate, but its hard to ignore the overall ‘gottcha” nature of today’s media. It has been ingrained into the whole system that every reporter/pundit must assume a cynical attitude towards presidential power. There is nothing inherently wrong with that as long as it leaves the door open for the possibility of authenticity. But in making the assumption that all politicians are liars or con artists and our job is only to point out how, the media excludes the possibility of an authentic leader

The Supreme Court of Canada has unanimously struck down the nation’s anti-prostitution laws.

The high court deemed laws prohibiting brothels, communicating in public with clients and living on the profits of prostitution disproportionate.

The ruling follows a court challenge filed by women who participated in the sex trade.

The justices’ decision gives the Canadian government one year to create new legislation.
