    What? Wonder why Michelle is staying on, not that I blame her, the winter weather is brutal this year. I’m sure that will set tongues a wagging again. Of course, anything/everything does. Has PBO arrived yet?

      Check the last thread dotster – staying on with friends as a 50th birthday present – I can remember the joy of a week alone without the family when I was working and the daughter a teenager – pure heaven!

      • January 5, 2014 at 7:48 am

        Ooooooh, I hope your daughter isn’t a TODer! πŸ˜†

        My daughter knows me well – every mother’s day she reminds me that despite being a lousy mother – she loves me dearly.

        • January 5, 2014 at 7:55 am

          “despite being a lousy mother – she loves me dearly”

          πŸ˜† I’m weepin’ again.

          PS 5-0? Congratulations Australia!!

            I wasn’t the mothering sort – honest soul I am – had the sense to stop at one πŸ™‚

            Quite a turnaround in the cricket – they did well. I wasn’t so enamored of the tennis – I am NOT a Hewitt fan – think Federer is the best – hope he does better at the Australian open. Serena won relatively easily – she played yesterday – in that heat!

            • January 5, 2014 at 8:14 am

              Oh, I’m totally out of touch with the tennis, need to do some catching up. Not a Hewitt fan at all, wishing him endless double faults πŸ˜•

                Brisbane was fairly minor – most of the top line players weren’t there. This week (I think) is the Australian Open – will probably be seen more outside of Australia.

                • January 5, 2014 at 8:21 am

                  Just checked 99ts, it’s Jan 13 – 26 – so while we’re brrrrrrring, we’ll get to see the Melbourne heat on our TVs!

                    January 5, 2014 at 8:31 am

                    Ah – I’m a week out – so as well as failing as a mother I’m somewhat of a failure in regard to tennis timetables – just a well I’m a great grandmother πŸ™‚

                    And Melbourne is well known for climate extremes – fortunately I think they now have a tennis center where they can close the roof & perhaps control the temperature.

      Mooooooooorning Dotster! Not sure what time PBO is due in DC, haven’t seen any pics yet so I assume they haven’t arrived?

      Just saw this:

      U.S. President Barack Obama has given his wife Michelle a birthday present that many mothers can only dream of – time alone without the demands of children.

      Her gift is to remain in Hawaii, where the Obama family spent a two-week vacation, to spend time with her friends ahead of her 50th birthday later this month.

        January 5, 2014 at 7:59 am

        Wow, what a thoughtful, wonderful gift. I’ll bet PBO knows how much she hates coming back to a cold dreary place with a killing schedule ahead of her. What could be more perfect than time to herself to soak up more Hawaiian sunshine and aloha spirit before heading back. That truly is a gift of love. All husbands should take note: this is the “A # 1 perfect” gift. Years ago, I gave a birthday gift like this to my then tired and overstressed sister. I got her a weekend in a resort/hotel for HERSELF to just relax and do what she wanted. She has always said it was the best present she ever got.

        OK, that’s nice, lucky Michelle. I think she loves these times away where she can just be a normal person doing normal things with no daily demands. Some extra days to breathe and relax and laugh with gal friends—-great gift.

    G’morning Chips & TOD! Love the pics of the folks just wanting to say hello and goodbye to their President and to shake his hand πŸ™‚ What a fabulous gift he has given FLOTUS for her birthday – will the media accurately report, or will they try to create some silly “scandal” by carefully omitting details? Whatever they do, it will drive them WILD with envy and resentment – especially that Jodi Kantor and her media cousins, Maureen Dowd and Peggy Noonan.

          January 5, 2014 at 5:00 pm

          Anniebella, you are so correct. However, remember these sufferable people will Never get how POB and FLOTUS do their personal business. POB is the last person who would want Anyone to pay for his family, that includes FLOTUS, Malia, Sasha, and his immediate family members for trips that do not pertain to business of the White House. POB is a very strict person about opening up a door for people to attack his use of anything regarding his wife, daughters, and family members and friends. He does not play that game. And that is why these foolish people start this crap. Do not worry, POB has taken care of his business concerning his wife.

          You are correct, Anniebella. POB makes a salary and her darn well earns way more that we pay him for what he does and have to put up with as our president. Plus most people do not know that POB is a very giving and classy man, and a very loving husband, but he watches his budget. Just saying. HZ

    Yesterday on c-span 3 they showed the impeachment of President Clinton in the House….

    Today, starting at noon they will be showing how it went down in the Senate………

    I must not have been paying close attention back then because what went on on the floor of the House is quite amazing…..there was cheering and booing and speeches that ran overtime and lots of banging of the gavel by then Congressman Ray LaHood and others…..

    The accusations coming from the Republicans, many familiar faces that are still there or have become Senators was stunning…..especially from Dick Armey who was majority leader at the time…..and Tom Delay

    Many of those same Republicans left Congress in disgrace…..

    morning everyone!

    great to have PBO back – his presence (and of course eternal smile) lightens so many hearts weighed down with all kinds of challenges!

    PBO appears ready for the political fights ahead – all muscled up and with a face at peace!

    great that FLOTUS has some extra days to herself to spend with friends – haters can ahead and hate but they can’t take this one gift from her. On queue, the usual suspects will be whining about extra costs and all;

    ps: reports do not include news about BO and Sunny – did they return with POTUS or remained behind (such important international and national concerns)

      I love that the media is being given minimal information – they will make up their stories only to see them squashed – with ease. How about Mrs Robinson? Are the girls to be given free rein for a week or two – Oh the stories we will hear πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

        Indeed 99ts. But right now the girls are 12 and 15 – at an age where they are fairly self-regulatory and don’t need the constant hovering of parents (if the parents have done a solid job in the first 12 years). Plus, they will be at school for most of the days in the next two weeks. They will be busy. πŸ™‚

      Oh yes the right will be complaining about the cost it is costing them the taxpayers for FLOTUS to remain in Hawaii. I’m sure they’ve already have started. But you know what I don’t give a dam. I have a feeling if POTUS could he would have stayed in Hawaii for a few more days with FLOTUS. I remember that sorry House had a month vacation.

    So now that Romney went on FOX and tried to seem human, some folks on Twitter are already praising him for “taking the high road.” I call BS on that. If Romney wanted, he could have addressed the issue with MHP before she was made to humiliate herself in “tears” on national TV yesterday. The fact that he planned to appear on FOX the day after she made that public apology suggests that the whole thing was driven by his money and decisions controlling the corporate media.

    As anotherslyfox indicated yesterday, no attempt by the media to make us “like” the Romneys is going to work. Liberals need to stop being so easily and cheaply taken by the media and their manipulative friends in the Republican party. MHP should NEVER have been forced to apologize for something she didn’t do – and that’s the bottom line.

    just speculation from reading the interaction and the body language on the rope line as PBO shakes the hands of the military families before departing;

    seems as though the kids in plaid shirts are siblings with the father looking on in the navy blue tee-shirt and the mother holding the hand of the younger one so protectively as though he is recovering from some kind of injury – PBO seems to have been notified of the same.

    POTUS looks so rested!!! I love it. I was so glad it was peaceful for his vacation. I’m in central Indiana and the snow has started. it looks very pretty from my window and that’s as close as I’m coming to it! Went to the grocery store yesterday afternoon and everyone was very quiet and intense as they were stocking up. I live in housing for the elderly and handicapped and it’s VERY quiet here. I think most people are staying with family. It’s possible we may have a foot of snow and the Arctic freeze starting Monday, but there are other places in the US that will be getting much more. It’s always so peaceful and pretty when it snows (from inside a warm home). Everyone is prepared and this will be over in a few days, but for now it begins and the snow is steady.

    Just roaming around the Internet and SOS Kerry is in the news re Iran and Syria. He really is amazing.

    Kerry expressed confidence in Iraqi govt/tribes fight against al Qaeda. US support will be without troops

    Kerry is inclusive like POTUS, getting people working together. Because there is tension between the two countries, Kerry says Iran could help on sidelines, not formally, in “Geneva 2” Syrian peace talks sched for Jan 22.

    And the work with Iran is going ahead quite well. Iran says agreement to suspend its most sensitive nuclear work to be implemented in late January

    So much good stuff going on!

    This is an interesting op-ed piece

    Of course the New York Times editorial page wants clemency or, at the very least, a generous plea bargain for National Security Agency contractor turned super-leaker Edward Snowden! The news pages of the New York Times have directly benefited from top-secret leaks from Snowden to break stories since last August, when the paper acquired a cache of his NSA material from the Guardian. (The Guardian published its own β€œpardon for Snowden” editorial today.) In urging leniency for Snowden, the Times editorial page is urging leniency for a specific news-pages source, which the editorial doesn’t directly state. If that doesn’t define enlightened self-interest, nothing does….

    • 90 anniebella

    I know that seasonality is vital for replenishing water systems for agriculture but winter ……

    born in the tropics, one thing I really, really, …., really hate is the snow!

    Last week was brutal with the snow storm!

    making matters worse, I decided a few years ago that I would not drive in the snow after an accident in which a speeding driver ignored the heavily falling snow, crushed into the freeway median, multiple cars and came right at me – almost sending me into a frozen river.

    had to hit the breaks so hard and the car refused to cooperate on the snow-covered roads – so this constantly replays in my mind when the road is slippery with snow;

    when it snows heavily, the accident replays in my head; I loose my confidence and I am danger to my self and others on the road;

    so the logical choice for me is to ride the infrequent bus service;

    more snow is already falling outside;

    worse still, the temperatures are falling very fast; the week ahead is going to be veeeeeeery coooooooooold;

    I am scheming about a plausible excuse from work to avoid walking in that very low temps (predicted at -40F).

    I thinking of declaring my place into a “convent” and going into “weather retreat” until these days pass

    Good Sunday Morning TOD. As I was greeted today on this post by our Presidents wonderful smile I was reminded that….

    Our POTUS is….so cute, so smart, so brilliant, so loving, so humble, so wonderful, so delightful, so amazing, so marvelous, so magnificent, so likable, so generous, so considerate, so upright, so forgiving, so benevolent, so magnanimous, so humane, so fantastic that there will never be another like him in my lifetime.

    Have a great O’Day Everyone!

  25. January 5, 2014 at 10:19 am

    Good morning, TOD. Just finished watching our local political talk show on Sunday mornings. They did local, state and national predictions. losers and winners. Panel is made up of two Dem attorneys, two local heavy-hitter Republicans, one of them female with close ties to the Haslam family (Pilot Flying J) and the other R definitely leans to the center and our newspaper editor who also sometimes leans more center or even center-left. Re national predictions, here are some in no special order……just what I am remembering off the top of my head. Chris Christie one of the winners of 2014 and the R woman even said Christie-Corker ticket for 2016!!!!!!!!!!! It was split on 2014 as far as D’s keeping the Senate and the overall agreement is that the ACA will play a huge part in 2014 elections–will the ACA get smoothed out? will the D’s run a way from PO on this, etc. All agreed that DeJarlais will lose–big-time. All agree that our famous idiot state senator, Stacey Campfield will lose and all agreed that our state senator, Gloria Johnson, Dem, will win again……that she has done a very good job and has the support of most of her fellow teachers. Overall, it was mostly what I would expect but will say most all, including the R’s, are saying the TP is going to be losers this year……that people are tired of the behavior, the hate, etc.

      Morning and Afternoon, and Evening to my TOD family. I was up early and immediately out on the back patio cleaning the dust away and washing down the tables and chairs. Even repotted a few plants. Now my body is trying to regroup.

      It is a lovely sunny 75 here. After I finished, I sat out in the sun and took some pictures. It was a lovely and very successful working morning.

      Off to finish reading here to catch up with all of my TOD family.
      Our POTUS is looking so relaxed and fine, if I may say so. Where is yardarm?HZ
