    Today at lunch with my daughter, son in law, his mother and aunt, we were talking about the excessive heat in Australia, and Patty (son-in-law’s mom) mentioned isn’t there a heat wave way above normal in Brazil? Jodie (the aunt) and I both said “Argentina” at the same time, whereupon, immediately, Jeff said “Don’t fry for me Argentina!” Any wonder we love him!!!

    ‘ The chemical facility in West Virginia that poisoned drinking water for 300,000 people had not been visited by environmental inspectors since 1991, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday night. …

    The feds don’t inspect most above-ground chemical storage units, and West Virginia had not yet forced Freedom Industries to implement a groundwater protection plan. ‘

    It’s been announced that Illinois – the state where I currently reside – is the top soybean producer in the nation; its corn crop second in the nation and the third largest in the state’s history.

    And me, a city girl.

      For reasons I will never understand – but I guess it was the time when primary industries were top of the pops – we studied “the corn belt” of the USA in my geography lessons. I remember having to draw a map of the US and mark the states that grew the corn.

      We also had to draw maps of Africa & I think we studied the rainforests – most of which are now a memory to everyone.

        Oh, that just struck me so funny – thanks for sharing. That you studied our corn belt and we studied about your country like it was a big, vast world – and now we’re all so connected via the Internet and social media that we can learn as we go! And it is so sad about the rainforests and everything else we collectively have done to our planet!

          1959 – we had a RW govt – wouldn’t surprise me that whoever wrote the text books got some payback from somewhere. Given all that was happening in the US at that time – the corn belt seems seriously pointless.

          The name (the corn belt) has been in my head for 50 years – as if it was the most important thing about the USA! Sheep/wool was the big moneymaker at that time down under – we learned about that as well!

          Must be past your sleep time – almost time to get dinner here. Rest well – see you in the early rising

            Funny how we remember things so clearly from our days in elementary school … the two things I learned that left an imprint on my mind – no idea why – were the Tennessee Valley Authority and Debtors’ Prison. Ha.

    Gov. Chris Christie has quietly nominated Bruce Kaplan, a former Middlesex County official with deep ties to New Brunswick’s disgraced former mayor, to become the county’s next Superior Court judge.

    A State Senate committee is expected to decide whether or not to approve Kaplan’s judgeship in Trenton tomorrow.

    Kaplan had been heavily criticized by victims, defendants, and his own staff during his eleven-year reign as Middlesex County Prosecutor, a tenure that abruptly ended last May amid a barrage of allegations against him.

    Among them are claims that Kaplan hired and protected racist assistant prosecutors, turned a blind eye to widespread and apparent corruption, gave preferential treatment to political allies, and retaliated against a female investigator who complained she was passed over for promotions.

      i’ve read 3 possible explanations for the bridge lane closures (not counting ‘routine traffic study’) and the one that makes the most sense to me is rachel’s, about christie’s judicial appointments. this new appointment increases my suspicion that he’s playing games with the legislature.

            I know this is going to sound naive, but while the fear of Iran having nuclear weapons should be a concern, seems to me, it is no less important that Israel having them. Why isn’t anyone concerned about their stockpile? And don’t tell me anything about hostile and rogue nations…when’s the last time Iran invaded a country?

      Every person in the media relations section of the PA should be subpoenaed and after that they should be fired. The cover up and stonewalling is shown in email after email. Whether the start led to Christie or not – this organization seemed to think it worked with the authority of a higher being.

      Every press query – “I will not reply unless instructed otherwise.” – and no-one, not Foye, not anyone was instructing.

      Letter from Rep Pascrell eventually became a “supposed letter”. People were told to contact person X – who never called back.

      And when the question was asked as to what percentage of the 12 lanes of traffic those three lanes carried – it was 26.8 to 27% – just slightly above the 25% that would be expected with an even distribution across lanes – so Christie’s comment that Fort Lee had too many lanes and maybe should lose some – completely, 100% WRONG.

      Good morning Chipsticks, Danny boy and TOD family,
      Good morning early birds; globalcitizenlinda, 99ts and FayPaX, how are you?

      Well, I was doing my channel surfing this morning and caught the Jokester morning show. To my surprise, Mika the side kick was defending President Obama. Of course I thought that it was strange, after she was bashing him and calling him Obama with the jokester last week after the 2 hour speech for lying that Christie gave.

      She stated that the repukes are causing distraction by pulling “President Obama” into Christie’s mess. Halpern was there and stated; I take issue with what you are saying, the President has never given a two hour speech like Christie, and answered all of the questions. So the little guy, don’t remember his name but he worked for President Obama, I think that he was the economic counsel. He said that the President did answer questions and that he had a press conference in December and the press corp was tough on him (President Obama). Mika the side kick stepped up and stated; this is not about the IRS, Benghazi and Christie is Governor of New Jersey, this is Christie problem not President Obama’s problem. Halpern, well the President never spoke for 2 hours on the IRS and Benghazi. Mika the side kick shut him down, to my surprise and stated; President Obama has “nothing” to do with New Jersey. Halpern was left looking dumb founded.

      I was shock, here’s the catch; the jokester is not there today, it was said after she closed Halpern mouth. She was big, bad and in charge because the jokester wasn’t there. Last week, she agreed with the punk; never calling the President, President Obama. Like the jokester, she only referred to him as Obama. That show is slime to the bone. Today, she told the truth and said what many of us have been saying; this has nothing to do with the President. I am sure she is going to get a tongue lashing from the jokester and Halpern.

      Maybe she was scolded for the way she and jokester lied on the President last week. Halpern, as always, tried to be the repukes talking mouth piece but she did the job she was suppose to do, rebuke the lies and speak the truth.

      I hope that each of you will have a wonderful and awesome day today.

      Don’t forget to smile, it relaxes our wrinkles : ) and someone could feel the warmth.

      I almost want to laugh…more than two years ago I wrote saying Christie was an outsized, pejorative bully and was attacked from all sides. It never made sense to me that people were so enamored with his bombastic behavior, while they totally ignored his policies…that’s the same thing they did with that airhead Palin. Guess Americans just like bulls**t.

        The one person Christie would not want to be compared to is Palin – and when he has to resign – the comparison is there for all to see. I see the headline now – At least Palin got halfway through her second term!

        FayPax, it was amazing, did you see Mika this morning?

        They wanted Christie to beat down the President, they didn’t care about policies. He was going to be their “great white hope” Rocky style, who was going to remove the black man in charge, who lives in the White House. It has always been about someone to beat up the President.

        I wish thousands would tweet Mika performance today, and send it to the jokester; this is what truth looks like jokester.

    hey 99ts and others awake, may be this will go where others have ignored/feared to go (i.e. Sandy Storm money and how it was used);

    I said earlier last week that we have to be prepared that if and when christie goes down for corruption, there will be a number of NJ Dems going down with him.

    it stands to reason that if the bully retaliated against those who crossed him in any way, he MUST also have rewarded those who supported him with (e.g with endorsements and federal money);

    if I were a young Dem politician in NJ, I prepare my resume & would run on the anti-corruption platform;

    based history, when the feds come into an area sniffing, more junk will be uncovered;

    my only worry is how christie’ prior relationship to the US Attorney’s NJ office will affect the investigations – since some people may have worked with or for him

    • 78 99ts
      January 13, 2014 at 7:15 am

      Hi Linda – I agree with you – I also think there is an issue in NJ in that the Governor appoints the State Attorney – hence people may NOT be able to get immunity at the state level – hence they may not speak.

      The senate has said they will not at the minute confirm Christie’s selection – so I don’t know enough about US administrations as to who would be giving out immunity in NJ.

    • January 13, 2014 at 7:18 am

      Boy am I glad to see this. I just can’t seem to figure how with the many billions from the federal government and the millions that were privately raised why so many people haven’t seen a dime. It’s just like the foreclosure funds. Christie received nearly half a billion dollars for people facing foreclosure…after more than a year, he had only delivered about 300K to the public.
