Yo, and Yo! LL, Today is Richie Havens’ birthday (1941). I know he’ll be singing up a storm (no pun) on The Other Side but we could sing along, right?? (I suppose this is a hint, if you have time!) πŸ˜‰

Whoa! Mrs. O does these videos so well, I swear she’s talking to me. She just lights up like it’s so much fun to talk to us and she has so many more good things to share if only there were time. I’m sure she was born with the skill of making other people feel special, but she sure has polished and perfected it in these White House years. She was always smart and beautiful, but she has blossomed into darn near perfection before our eyes.

One man and two children were found dead at 7:15 a.m. today in an on-post residence, according to Fort Hood officials.

All three were Army dependents, and it’s unclear what caused the deaths. Special Agents from U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are investigating.

There is “no further threat to the community,”according to a statement from Fort Hood released about 1 p.m.

The names of the man and children have not been released. CID is not releasing any further information at this time.

Hi Everyone! Your resident DJ here poking my head in between bouts of drug-induced stupor to say THANK YOU for all your sweet prayers and lovely well-wishes! I’m overwhelmed by all the love from my TOD peeps! Y’all are simply the best! I’ve missed you madly!

I’m on the mend and getting good care. Trying to be a good patient –though it’s totally against my nature!

Hoping to be back in full force soon!
Giant panda bear hugs to every one of you rascals!

We’ve got two inches of snow on the ground here and the entire city is shutdown. I have to admit we are rather wimpy when it comes to snow.

2 freaking inches? Well, I understand that Atlanta closes schools and businesses if there is a forecast for flurries, so there are bigger wusses.

        January 21, 2014 at 4:40 pm

Nope we have them beat! The snow didn’t start until around 10:00 am. By 4:00 AM this morning they had already closed all the schools and the federal government before the first snow flake had fallen because of the forecast of snow. So they didn’t even wait for the flurries before we were in complete shutdown.

      • January 21, 2014 at 4:49 pm

15 inches predicted in Philly.. 😦

Donna, how I remember those days and the horrible commutes home with crazy drivers freaking out at the snow. Right now, we are so inundated with snow and high winds, I am getting cabin fever even though it’s only been a day. The idea of “not being able to go out” is hard to take. Stay safe.

I know what you mean, jackieG. Since moving FROM FLORIDA to Illinois a few years ago, a couple of times I’ve gotten log cabin fever when it’s snowed. Get it? (I think I’m the only one who laughs at that log cabin fever part, here in the Land of Lincoln! I think I’m hysterical; nobody else seems to – Ha!)

GG it’s pathetic. It’s not so much the snow as its the drivers in the snow. We are HORRIBLE snow drivers. I could tell you some horror stories of it taking me 9 hours (NINE) to get home once in a snow storm that started after we got to work. We have the worse snow drivers in the world in the DC metro area. πŸ˜†

You have my sympathies. I learned how to drive in a snow covered parking lot behind a supermarket in Detroit. My Dad was my instructor and we were in his beloved Chevy Station wagon and you bet not get a scratch on it!! Hahahaha! I can drive through ANY kind of weather πŸ˜€

        • January 21, 2014 at 4:58 pm

dd is telling the truth. My husband has some of those stories too. It’s CRAZY, totally and completely CRAZY. It’s both the drivers and the number of drivers/cars/buses, etc. Put all that together and it’s not pretty.

I am such a wimp about cold that I left Columbus, Ohio where I grew up and moved to the valley of the sun to get it out of my life.

I may have to put on some socks and switch to long pants.

I have a question: when a US citizen turns 65, are they required by some law to register for and receive Medicare? I’m asking this question seriously, and yes I do know someone who is pissed off thinking the gubmint is now going to have more control over his life than God does. (I know, I know, but can anyone here shed some Light on this?)

MP, first of all the age these days, is 66. And no, I don’t think you’re required. My sister was working with a good health care plan until she was 71 and didn’t sign up until then.

      • 99 japa21
        January 21, 2014 at 4:28 pm

For Medicare it is 65. A person can sign up for Part A, which is hospital insurance which comes at no cost. If you have other insurance through an employer, you can’t even sign up for Part B, for which there is a premium of $104/month. If you delay signing up for Part B when you are eligible to do so (65 or when you no longer are eligible for employer based health insurance) you can be penalized with a higher premium when you do sign up.

Ty, japa. Not sure I can explain this to him, but might suggest he see if there’s an option to decline. He is self-employed, no idea what income bracket. People are odd, aren’t they? Oh well, I appreciate the feedback very much.
