Not what I would want to read. Apart from the Snowden issue ( traitor in more ways than one) the approach of our government to refugees is horrendous. If there were to be issues with Indonesia – no doubt whatsoever that the US would be involved. There are currently US troops in Northern Australia. It is rarely discussed.

      • January 27, 2014 at 7:42 am

I have to confess 99ts, I completely missed the news about military tensions between Australia and Indonesia, is it still going on?

        • 39 99ts
          January 27, 2014 at 7:55 am

It is – we have just a few Navy boats and most of them are out trying to force refugee boats – small and overladen – back to Indonesia. The people pay a small fortune to get on the boats – usually owned and crewed by Indonesians. I think Bob Cesca has gone overboard (pun intended) with his analysis – but Snowden has managed to stop any co-operation between Indonesia/Australia going ahead. Snowden is stirring up hate and resentment all over the world – and he wants to be seen as a hero – not in my lifetime.

          • January 27, 2014 at 8:02 am

What a mess, the desperation of these people is heartbreaking. For that Ron Paul fanboy and his pimp Greenwald to worsen a situation like this is beyond belief, the damage they are doing is just incredible.

    • 41 jackiegrumbacher
      January 27, 2014 at 7:40 am

Snowden is like a seriously disturbed child who steals a box of explosives. He has zero judgment and a complete indifference to the human consequences of his actions. From the beginning he surrounded himself with callous, sociopathic enablers who are doing their best to cause maximum damage to the world. I wish the UN would hold an international meeting about this and persuade all nations that they have a common enemy in this despicable little eel and turn on him (and his collective enablers), rather than each other.

        January 27, 2014 at 8:04 am

You say it very well jackie – I think I am too irate about him to think through the words. I have no idea why he allowed his life to be thrown under the bus, so people like GG could attack the US and cause never ending tension between many nations – whether or not they supported US foreign policy.

He will never be able to live in a “democratic” nation again – which is due to his very poor choices in both actions and friends – he needs to hear that message – loud and strong.

      • January 27, 2014 at 9:15 am

how could a low level NSA employee cause so much damage…my opinon is that he is a Russian Spy and that GG and company are either accomplices or dupes….

the question is …who benefits from all the discourse and confusion created by the Snowden Affair…as someone has famously said…follow the money!…

but i have the feeling the stuff will be getting rather funky very soon…

PS… Jackie did you read that post i left for you back a few threads ago…

If anyone is wondering what the repukes are going to do if Hillary Clinton is in for 2016…..morning jokester show spent time talking about “MONICA LEWINSKY.” Rand Paul discussed it on MTP, how good old billy boy took advantage of a 20 year old intern; therefore, the Dems should not be accusing the repukes of having a war on women.

Of course they discussed it on the jokester, and how many Dems gave billy boy a pass. Someone said that they don’t think the public has an appetite for this again.

The repukes are going to use this all over again, as a defense for waging their own wars on women. Here we go again……….focus on billy boy and Lewinsky and drown Hillary out, add this to Benghazi and they have a winning strategy, so they think.

They do this while re-electing the adulterer from South Carolina – who left his job, his wife and 4 children because – sexy woman!

They have run out of discussion points Cindy – nothing sticks to the President – so they need to attack another dem. While they concentrate on this – they might just lose the midterms through lack of focus.

        Happy Monday to you 99ts,
I hope that you had a wonderful Monday, as you prepare for nighty nite : )

I hope so but we still have President Obama and they just want to write him off as some failed 2nd term President. Everything I see now; the President has a failed 2nd term, he is not getting anything done, his poll numbers are low, he had the worse year last year. This is just insane and I don’t know why the Dems do not get out there and talk up the President’s accomplishments; 46 months of steady job growth, 8.2 million jobs, health insurance, and so much more. Just look at the stock market; doubled since 2009 and they have written him off for Hillary and now we have to listen to Rand Paul talk about how billy boy took advantage of a young intern. President Obama kept us out of wars that the repukes wanted, Iran is cooperating and the Dems don’t have anything to talk about?

President Obama is still the President and they want to deny him a 2nd term for the Clintons.

Hi Cindy – we had a great Monday – holiday in my world –

When the GOP starts talking about the Clintons – you know the President is about to flatten them. This is no lame duck term – much remains for PBO to achieve – and he will – with the help of his supporters.

I’m going to try my best and separate Bill from Hillary, but what I won’t do is forget about all the bullshit that Bill has said about President Obama and all the times Bill has gone out of his way to undermine President Obama. I’m not going to automatically vote for Hillary, she has to earn my vote the same way then Senator Barack Obama had to earn my vote. Like I’ve said in the past the whole Hillary thing is starting to feel like a Hillary “coronation” and not about trying to find a candidate that will in some ways be a leader in the same vein as President Obama.

        January 27, 2014 at 8:43 am

        Good morning Don,
        Happy Monday to you!

I expressed this last week. I feel like it’s 2016 every time I wake up and it’s President Hillary Clinton in the White House. They don’t want us to have a chance to decide on who we want. I want to know who the candidates are, and I believe that there are going to be some great candidates who will enter. I am just mad about the whole Hillary thing. It’s as though she is entitled; I am a Clinton and I am female; therefore, you must elect me. I waited before endorsing President Obama because I wanted to know more about him and I am waiting before I get behind Hillary. I want to know that I have choices-period, but the media is setting this whole thing up to be about the mobster Christie and Hillary.

      • 62 jackiegrumbacher
        January 27, 2014 at 9:26 am

Don, I believe that all this discussion about Bill and Hillary has nothing to do with 2016 and everything to do with 2014. We’re supposed to get distracted away from working for this year’s Dem candidates. I refuse to play this game. We’ve got big fish to fry now to get Dem House candidates elected and keep the Senate AND we have very nasty governors to replace in some states. I’ve never been to war or engaged in a battle, but, in my opinion, if the enemy is trying to distract you to the right, you sure as heck should keep you eyes focused on the attack coming straight at you.

        January 27, 2014 at 12:44 pm

there is no way in hell I would vote for Hillary. no.way. No more Clintons.

Which is why I really try to stay away or scroll past these discussions. The issue is lately I see the conversations move from possible candidate to THE democratic candidate. Forget that. She has done nothing to earn my vote. Nothing. I see no support for POTUS on his initiatives. No input on gun safety laws. Nothing against these republicant’s stinking up the Congress. Nothing.

Besides that…. there are so many talented Dems who are well served to be POTUS in 2016 to include my personal choice – Joe Biden.

I want to stay focused on 2014. Leave the Hillary/Bill conversations until AFTER we do the job this year. It is only going to create an unnecessary rift prior to the November elections.

Many people are too young (or too myopic) to remember that Derangement Syndrome started with the Clintons and then went on mega steroids for PBO. They would use these tactics against any Dem running for President, but they will put Clinton Derangement Syndrome on steroids.

Unfortunately, Bill Clinton gave them the ammunition they needed then to usher in GWB presidency.

If Hillary was a real patriot, she’d understand that they have both had distinguished careers and would clear the damn field for someone new. It is only blind ambition and believing the love of sycophants that leads Hillary to another run. I believed that in 2008 and I believe it now.

Good morning 57andfemale; Nickelby, Kasper and Miss pretty girl Pearl!

How is Nickelby doing in his recovery stage 57andfemale? I hope he is healing and getting through the pain : (

Mrs. Bush got it right when she stated; there are more families out there who can run for President, other than the Kennedys’ , Bush and the Clintons. She went on to say that she doesn’t want Jeb to run, although she believes that he is the best candidate.

I admired the fact that she could say that there are other families. This is a power play for Bill and Hillary, and many Dems are falling in line to back her. They backed Clinton on things that they should not have , and then they give President Obama hell for things that are helping many.

President Obama is still the President and they (media) have written him off as a failed 2nd term President for the Clintons and the mobster Christie. You wake up and you feel like it’s 2016; no choices, no votes, and Hillary is the President.

          January 27, 2014 at 1:28 pm

Hi, Cindy! Me and my fur babies wish you a great good morning!

We’ve been 100% on carrying Nickelby up and down the stairs, but he gets up and down off the sofa here and there if I don’t hold him tight with a leash. I’m working from home today in the cold. Mr. 57 does not understand the care Nickelby needs. Yesterday Nickelby was up on his hind legs and I had to explain to Mr. 57 that he absolutely cannot do that. So I question how well he’s being cared for when Mommy isn’t around to supervise.

Of course, I slipped on the ice last night, carrying Nickelby. Nothing will melt through that ice right outside the door. It’s -2 degrees here right now. I’m a tad bruised. My major concern was Nickelby of course.

Thanks for inquiring about my brood! Pearl is still the ever-affectionate nurse, although she’s showing some signs of jealousy now that Mommy is Nickelby-centric.

Kasper is his usual naughty self, and VERY bored with this awful Chicago winter. Daddy bought him some new toys yesterday, so he was amused for a little while. Hope this weather breaks soon. We’re all going stir-crazy.

          • January 27, 2014 at 1:31 pm

Oh 57, so sorry Nickelby’s struggling – and that you had a fall. Gawd, what next?

            • 71 57andfemale
              January 27, 2014 at 1:47 pm

All will be well if and when spring ever returns to Chicago. Trying to get a dog who thinks he’s all better to stay quiet, not run, jump or do stairs for a month – this is a real challenge. We went through this in March and if we don’t obey the rules, he goes back to Square 1 and usually worse than he started. I sit on the sofa or sleep with him on a leash so he can’t dart away. Putting him in the crate – he thinks he was a bad boy and that breaks our hearts.

My first fall of the season. For me that’s pretty good! I am hopeless walking on anything slippery.

I’m absolutely convinced that there is a lot of message coordination within the republican media machine. So I always put my “conspiracy” lenses when I listen to them.

An hypothesis: it’s so soon in the process that I wonder if these actual attacks are simply an attempt to discourage Hillary from running. They know that the Lewinsky episode has been very difficult for her on a personal level. But nobody has talked about Lewinsky for years. Why now ? To send the message to Hillary that if she thought this was “old news” and that at least, this awful episode had been forgotten and the attacks would be more political, well… no she will have to relive that all over again (the media talking about it) if she runs.

  21. 89 desertflower
    January 27, 2014 at 8:20 am

Well will you just look at this mish mash of contradictions!! Does this man even hear himself spout this stuff??

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) suggested the possibility of cutting government benefits for unwed mothers who have multiple children.

“Maybe we have to say ‘enough’s enough, you shouldn’t be having kids after a certain amount,’” said Paul, who opposes legal abortion and has criticized the federal health care law’s contraception mandate as a violation of religious and economic liberty.

The likely 2016 presidential candidate made the remarks Thursday during a luncheon in Lexington, reported the Lexington Herald-Leader, in response to a question about workforce development.

    • January 27, 2014 at 8:32 am

They can’t seem to make up their minds. On one hand, a woman shouldn’t take contraceptives to keep from getting pregnant, but if she does, terminating the pregnancy is criminal, but if she has too many children ( who decides how many are too many) out of wedlock, throw her to the wolves. I’m assuming it’s okay to have a dozen younguns as long as you have a husband.

They’re schizophrenic…the whole lot of them!

    • 91 99ts
      January 27, 2014 at 8:32 am

Guess he wants the children to die a slow death from starvation – after they are born. They are horrible horrible people.

And will never understand the people who vote for GOPers who reveal their hate in this fashion. There is no doubt, in current times, if EVERY voter – at the least – has a single parent as a friend – most have at least one single parent as a member of their extended family.

    • 92 Lovepolitics2008
      January 27, 2014 at 9:43 am

Wow, for a man who champions “liberty”, he has a tendency to use government to “regulate” people’s behavior, to “punish” them if they don’t do what HE thinks they should do.

He should listen to himself. But, as so many republicans, he’s incapable of self-reflection.

I just want to say; THANK YOU for posting Marvin Gaye’s PBS interview on Saturday.

I love his music so much and had totally forgotten about some of the pain that he endured. Sadly, he was so gifted but soooooo troubled. I do believe that his father played a “major” role in his self destruction. Yes, he made choices but his desire to be accepted by his father was overwhelming. Such tragedy and sadness all around his life.

Ask yourself — How many times during the last FIVE YEARS have you used or heard the word UNPRECEDENTED used as it relates to something that the REPUBLICAN PARTY is doing or proposing. It’s endless. All because there is a black man in the White House. The latest unprecedented outrage is the spectacle of THREE REBUTTALS to the SOTU. The Republican Party has come undone. They are fractured and a hot mess. But sadly the feckless media will continue to go along with the unprecedented madness of an opposition party that is the biggest threat to the future and wellbeing of this country.

Their 3 response is a calculated strategy to demean PBO by making his speech one of many, distract from his message and destroy as much as possible of the impact our decent intelligent President speaking to 30 million people will have.

Can’t agree Vicki – their 3 responses are because 2 groups and one individual refuse to think someone else in their party can talk for them/him. For reasons I will never understand Rand Paul keeps being given space by the media – the other two will go down with their sinking ship.

    Good morning all.
NY Times crazy front page story is that Repubs will keep the House and maybe gain the Senate because of botched website.

11 months after 10/1/13 That??? will be the issue! I don’t think so. Also the repubs will be relying on ACA (untrue) horror stories.

Now they no longer have Nate Silver to bring them back to earth – the pundits think they only have to say it – and it will be. I’m with you Vicki – too many folks are liking health care – the NYTimes must have missed that memo

But history tells us that when 1,000 people greet and cheer POTUS the one heckler gets all the attention. Triple responses are nuts but they will bury the message. Let’s see how much.

Vicki, the MEDIA makes it seem that way – but that’s far from reality. This President is more popular in the US and globally than any domestic or international media is willing to admit. How many of these hecklers over the last 5 years do we remember now? Not.A.Single.One. They’ve all faded into worthless obscurity – where they shall remain.

Meanwhile, our PBO still continues to be THE person everyone wants to talk about, be seen with, criticize, love, hate, receive a phone call from, have their product endorsed by, etc… you catch my drift. And because of this his message ultimately endures – despite constant attempts to muffle it.

It’s all just media generated chaff to distract the people from latest gop scandals. Just watch teann & msnbc bloviators concern troll over sotu while right in front of them the audience reaction goes all positive.

They will all fail – I find the weirdest thing is that most of them tape their speeches before they hear what the President has to say. How you can reply to something you have not heard – is a true mystery.

And the media refuses to call them out it. As amk indicated, plan on MSNBC, CNN,. aBC, CBS, FOX, NBC, NPR, PBS, all of the above concern troll PBO’s speech with very little attention paid to the glaring MESS and disarray that plagues the GOP. Unless one or more of them messes up royally like Marco Rubio and the water bottle last year, we won’t hear a thing from the MSM.

We have a “budget speech” which I guess is similar to the SOTU – says what the Govt is doing for the next 12 months. The opposition get right of reply – the following evening. At least they have listened to the speech & looked at the accompanying detail.

This is getting absolutely ridiculous. By 2015, the GOP will have 10 different individuals giving rebuttals to PBO’s SOTU address. This is a circus, enabled by the complicit media. And I will be calling out any media person who tries to concern troll the President’s SOTU address while airing any of these bullchit “rebuttals.” and confront their complicity in trying to undermine our President.

My issue with the three ridiculous rebuttals it that the Republicans already own the air ways. They have conservative talk radio, Fox and then they get to suck out the air with every so-called news show on TV. I assure you that most people go back to watching their regularly scheduled program when the SOTU ends but the mere fact that these no counts can decide that they will rebut the President’s address and our media takes them seriously just makes me angry to the core.

Please use the hastag #Why3GOPResponses and call them out on this.

Exactly donna! We need to shame these GOP idiots and their groveling enablers in the media. We the people will not tolerate this crap on our President. We duly elected him to serve two terms and we are only interested in hearing HIS message.

Watch the talking heads lose their minds when the president’s numbers GO FURTHER UP after tomorrow’s speech.

Talking about the SOTU, I predict President Obama will make a big push for UE benefits. He has been more low profile on the subject in the past week. It’s about timing; he will use the SOTU to put pressure on republicans.

More likely, the media and their pollster friends will work harder than ever to try to tamper down the President’s approval rating by skewing their their samples and soft massaging the data. I’m not even counting on approval rating reports since this is largely controlled by the media and their corporate pollster friends. I will simply follow whatever the President is doing and help to disseminate his message while countering media distortions from the left and the right.

It doesn’t bother me. It simply makes the republicans look disorganized. And nobody will listen to them anyway. When people take the time to watch the SOTU till the end, they listen to a president delivering a message full of honesty, dignity and common sense. And a positive, uplifting message. And then, it’s the republicans who basically say one thing: everything is bad and everything is the president’s fault. And republicans don’t have anyone who can deliver a speech with at least a bit of charisma. After five minutes, any sane person stops listening.

If by any chance there are a few moderates and independent voters who submit themselves to this … the fact that there are THREE of them, repeating at nauseam that President Obama and democrats are bad bad bad; and freeeeedom, and “job creators” and low taxes for everybody even the rich, and on and on… it will just be so BORING. So, not only three rebuttals won’t help the republicans; it will have the OPPOSITE effect. It will emphasize the idea that they just sound like a broken record. They just have talking points, no real solutions.

The only people who will like the three rebuttals are the republican base.

Another good thing: everybody will quit listening during the republican rebuttals. The pundits trying to build a negative narrative for the president will just talk among themselves.

Ok, chicken littles. My prediction for #2014.

Dems take back house majority by at least 5 and increase their present senate lead by at least 1.

My predictions are 90% spot on. So you all can relax and do the needed thing – GOTV.
