‘5 Best Moments From Obama’s State of the Union Speech
President Obama’s State of the Union touched on income inequality, Obamacare, his determination to talk to Iran, and the courage of a soldier. See the highlights. ‘

In case you hadn’t heard about Sgt. Remsburg & President Obama’s relationship it dates back to 2009….
“WASHINGTON — Three times, mainly by chance and in very different circumstances, Sgt. First Class Cory Remsburg has met President Obama. They were introduced near Omaha Beach in France in 2009, when Sergeant Remsburg was part of a select Army Ranger group chosen to re-enact a parachute drop for celebrations of the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings in World War II. The second meeting came less than a year later at a military hospital outside Washington, where Mr. Obama was stunned to see among the wounded troops from Afghanistan a familiar young man — now brain-damaged, a track of fresh stitches across his skull, and partly paralyzed. The third time was two weeks ago in a private visit in Phoenix, where Sergeant Remsburg did something that neither Mr. Obama nor military doctors would once have predicted: he stood up and saluted his commander in chief…..”
It’s such a pleasure to share nights like this with TOD. I love you all and all of your comments! Thank yous x 1000 to Chips. I have never been more proud of my President, but I want to add, I’m also pretty proud to be a Democrat. What a sad fate it is to be a Republican- never more obvious than on a night like this.
The 14 people at our home for the State of the Union OFA party LOVED President Obama’s speech!

and you can bet your sweet bippy i voted ‘yes’ on that poll 🙂

wow that is some serious hate flowing out of those duck people. crazy.
‘crazy’ ‘serious hate’ and guns. the rethugs are now so outlandish, they’ve very little to add except shock and horror.
agree, Susanne- they are nuts.
I am seriously offended Dick DyNASTY got to be present when there are so many others more deserving of this honor. What is it with these gun nuts….. I grew up on farm in Iowa, yes we had guns cause some of the men folk were hunters. NEVER, EVER did anyone in the family feel the need to take the gun to church, to school, shopping, etc, etc.
They’ve pre-judged PBO and have never met him! The sour looks on their mugs says it all. They came to the SOTU event with their minds already made up that they would not agree with anything he said, sherijr. It must suck to be them. If they’ll remember, PBO did not say one word about Phil Robertson’s ugly rant about gay Americans.
I agree- it must suck to be them. How to emanate that kind of hate at someone speaking to us about equality and fairness- and caring for one another- is beyond my realm of understanding.
sucks to be them, is right. they are flash-in-the-pan c-list teevee novelties, just making themselves less popular, and less happy, with everything they do and say.
“But, if this speech burned no barns, it didn’t sound anything like a last chance, either. The president seemed to have a pen and one hand, and that well-worn olive branch still in the other. He is what he always has been, the coolest head in the room. You can never say he isn’t that.”

some great pierce lines in this piece, but i cannot agree with holding pbo’s sotu up to clinton’s for comparison. like pbo is hoping to reach the lofty heights of bubba?!
Glad I didn’t read it. The Clinton comparison gags me. Goodnight, susanne and TODville!
Pierce has a few issues – Clinton doesn’t bother me as much as his NSA rants – but he keeps calling out the GOP so I keep going back.
“The son of a single mom can be President of the greatest nation on Earth.”
Texas voters – please note.
Amazing SOTU. As the I Ching says: “Perseverance furthers.” President Obama never gives up on us. We can do no less. Everyone votes this year.
Am watching the MSNBC version of the SOTU now after seeing it live on C-Span. Noticing how Boehner is very glum not liking most of what PBO says. The GOP is sitting on their hands. Guess I will need to stop soon and watch the rest tomorrow.
Other things GOP didn’t clap for: equal pay, immigration reform, health care, universal voting, minimum wage, responsible gun laws. If the majority of the American people are for it, they are against it.
The President is in control. Period. The GOP got served an indictment during this SOTU like no party ever has.

bloomberg reports on the details of the president’s my-ra program, announced in his sotu speech.
‘ President Barack Obama offered more Americans the chance to save for retirement through payroll deductions with a plan for new government-sponsored savings accounts.
The accounts, which Obama announced tonight in a State of the Union Address that concentrated on expanding economic opportunity, will be available to workers who don’t have access to a 401(k) plan, administration officials said.
The “MyRA” accounts, similar to an individual retirement account, will provide “a new way for working Americans to start their own retirement savings,” Obama said in the text of the speech released by the White House.
Under the initiative, workers would be allowed to have a portion of their pay deducted for deposit into an account invested in U.S. government bonds that would be treated for tax purposes as an individual retirement account, administration officials said.
The accounts, set up through the Treasury Department, would have a maximum balance after which money would have to be rolled over into an IRA, the officials said. ‘

Dear @CongHuelskamp what a refreshing change for the people of Texas that it wasn’t one of their congressmen gurgling incoherently.
Governor Christie’s brother, Todd Christie, and two business partners have bought and sold a handful of properties within walking distance of the PATH station in Harrison, slated for a $256 million renovation funded by the Port Authority and championed by the governor, records show. –

GE 99ts. Nothing like nice corruption to end the day.
Some are saying Christie will escape – this is all business as usual – I think they are living on non-existant hope
I don’t know, 99. It depends on whether or not they really want him convicted or someone simply wants to ruin his chances for 2016 and who else will get snared in the net. I have no confidence in the judicial system. If they want him, there are so many laws on the books, they’ll get him. But the flip side of that is that there are just as many loopholes. Not to mention ambiguity, i.e. pay to play is illegal, but I have a hard time making a distinction. Why isn’t lobbying influence peddling, or why is it okay for a politician to push legislation of his “money” supporters. Congressmen are allowed to have stocks in the same companies they write legislation for, but that isn’t considered insider trading. It’s just so much bull, you can never know. Remember, they tried Blagojevich twice on 17 various counts. He was only found guilty on one. They wanted him badly, but he’d stepped on a lot of people toes. Conversely, Crispy sounds like Santa Claus.
The fool on MSNBC has to decide
1. He knows how Washington works – he could get the parties to talk to each other
2. Minimum wage – Washington should not do this – too much big government
As usual – he doesn’t let anyone else talk. He is anti wage rises and health care – because – small business. And then when his usual supporters disagrees – Joe starts to call it a “free lunch”
Suddenly – Joe is arguing for higher wages – except the government has to give something back. I suggest they tax MJ at 50%
Woohoo – they are calling Joe on the bullshit – he is looking bitter
They are ALL talking over each other.
Now Joe is saying he has been all against Income equality for the past 5 years – hahahahaha
Pierce (not a fan disclaimer – boo to you too, bt)
“Once again, he was the only obvious president in the room, much good may that do him. He did not rile up the base. He was not combative. He did not dwell on issues that his base wanted to hear. (If you had “Keystone XL,” or “NSA,” or “TPP” in your State of the Union drinking game, you probably wound up as the designated driver.) But he was firm on one thing. He is not going to be a lame duck as long as he can still walk. There were a lot of sentences that began with some variation of, “If Congress won’t act…”
I know this is off subject, but it just blows my mind. This is unprecedented! Anybody here think Israel has undue influence on America’s legislators?
The American Studies Association’s has been boycotting Israel over the treatment of Palestinians. Yesterday, the NY legislature passed a bill that prohibits colleges and universities from spending taxpayer funds on academic groups that support boycotting Israel…the focus is on Israel.
In Brief:
Institutions violating the legislation would be cut off from state aid during the academic year the violation occurred. The legislation also has language that exempts certain kinds of boycotts: boycotts related to labor disputes, countries that are “state sponsors” of terrorism, and boycotts that target “unlawful discriminatory practices”–exactly what the ASA boycott is about.
What happened to the First Amendment? We’re going to hell in a hand basket!!
